This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of August, 1928, in accordance with request made by Mr. [4906].

Time of Reading 5:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time.

1. GC: You will have before you the well being drilled in Rocky Pasture, San Saba County, Texas, also the enquiring mind [4906], who is drilling same. You will tell him how he may handle the situation so as to make a producing well, telling where casing should be set, and anything further that will insure the proper handling. You will also have the well this body is drilling in Coleman County, Texas, on the J. L. Vaughn land, about three-quarters of a mile from Tinkham. You will tell him what he may expect with these operations.

2. EC: Yes, we have the operations in San Saba County, Texas. Also those in Coleman County on the Vaughn property south of Tinkham. Then the enquiring mind of [4906]. The San Saba operations we have had before, and - as has been given, there may be expected that near the 2487 foot depth the hard lime will be encountered, this being then THROUGH the shifts or slides that have occurred and below the water stratas in these areas. When this lime has been well entered, sufficient in same to set casing insuring sure footing, the casing may be set there and that will insure the full flow when production is reached at near the 2600 foot depth. Handle in that manner.

3. In the Coleman County operations, these conditions present rather a peculiar condition; for while the area and the field is in the producing area, this location will not - as we find - be of the larger production for the field, but will be of sufficient quantity to insure a success of operations, near 967 foot depth. We are through.

R1. 8/20/28 EC’s letter to [4906]: ”…Having had to study the minds and the individuals as I did during my 2 years in the sleepy little town of San Saba, I believe I can appreciate as well as the next one that situation…the time you had with our good friend Mr. Murray. I remember him quite well. He held out on us continually while we were trying to operate there, and I suppose he thought he could do you the same way…”

R2. 9/29/28 Mr. [4906]‘s letter: “I have secured an extension of another year on all my leases here in San Saba and have been drilling ahead for the last 2 weeks. I would like to have you check up again, as you call it, for I sure sometimes get discouraged when the questions I ask are never answered. I wish you would give this check up a little time, for if you believe in it as much as you say you do, then it is the most important reading you have, for it will mean the institution Cayce Hospital] paid for and a steady upkeep of your family and what is needed in your work.

“My wife and I were greatly discouraged at our well being dry in Coleman County. She feels that our work here is all in vain. She says you could tell the Coleman County if you could tell in San Saba, and also sight the deep dry holes I drilled at Ball Hill, Okla. on your suggestion that were dry [See [4906] series].

“Yet I am going on, never looking back, hoping that you are right in your readings. Something seems to hold me on this job. I don’t know whether it is what you have told me, or whether it is the feeling that should go with the answering of my prayer, that if I could only hit some place and pay my debts, I would gladly give all the rest to God’s work. The interest on my debts is piling up at the rate of $20,000 per year. This added to the principal each year is gradually making a mountain that hangs like a millstone around a man’s neck; it is something that is with you the last thing at night and the first thing in the morning. So I am carrying my load and battling on, with the feeling that there is something in the end for me.

“Old man, go into this next reading fully; it is the least thing you can do for me. You know as well as I what I want to know. Remember we must know what depth to set that 5 inch pipe, or the whole test would go for naught. Should we get water under it I could not save a well if we got it.

“Tell me what was wrong at Coleman County.

“If you know anybody that through you would like to make an investment send him to me, for I have 6,500 acres that I am trying to dispose of at 2 per acre; that is, if a man buys 100 worth he would have an interest in 6,500 acres amounting to 50 A. participating. He would not own 50 A in one place but have an interest in 6,500 acres or 42 farms lying all around the test in every way. The closest acreage in 6,500 A. is 1320 feet from the hole and then extending out every way to the outside of the block.”

R3. 10/22/28 EC’s letter to [4906]: “Yours of the 29th came while I was away on business regarding the financing of the Hospital. Just after I got back I was sick for 10 days or more; consequently the delay in answering. I know that many things have changed since you wrote on the 29th - almost a month ago. Consequently, I am writing you again, feeling that possibly you had rather ask more specific questions with conditions existent at the present time. I hope you will do this. I would have wired you, but feeling that would not be in keeping with some of your plans, I am having to resort to this means. Should you desire this to be hurried, if you will wire me from some of the neighboring places, I assure you I will attend to it just as soon as possible…”

R4. 12/8/28 Mr. [4906]‘s wire forwarded to EC where he was visiting David E. Kahn for a few days at Grove Park Inn, Asheville, N.C.:

“AM 2576 FEET DEEP NOW VERY HARD IN LOWER POSITION SHOULD I RUN FIVE INCH PIPE NOW? WIRE ME WESTERN UNION BROWNWOOD COLLECT - WAITING HERE - REGARDS - RUSH.”
