This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of November, 1935, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [652], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 12:10 Noon - Eastern Standard Time. …, Arizona. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes. We have had the body here before, [567].

2. Many changes have taken place in the body since last we had same here. We DO NOT find that there has been any MATERIAL change in the BASIC CAUSES of the attacks or of the reflexes upon the system, from that which we have given as the cause - and that as we have found or given would be the preferable manner to handle same.

3. And, as we find, if those things as FIRST given through these sources would be adhered to in toto, these would bring for the body the better and nearer normal reaction.

4. Ready for questions.

5. (Q) Are the gland treatments helping me? (A) No.

R1. 12/9/35 Mother [652]‘s letter: “I am writing you this evening really in desperation. Is there no help anywhere for us? Really, it has come to such a pass with us that both Mr. [643] and I are on the verge of a nervous collapse - and everywhere we turn we are up against a stone wall… [567] needs care now more than ever… His spells are much more severe and I am not able to handle him alone - Mr. [643] can’t be here all the time…

“Can’t we find a place or a family near you at once, where he can have the tr. you say he must have? Dr. Kolar in Kansas took $800 and sent him back just the same and this is the history of his case all the way through. There isn’t a DC or DO in this little town… I feel that somewhere, somehow, there must be help for people like us who have tried to do our duty. What is the answer? Is there no help? Will you arrange something for us with somebody at a nominal price that we can pay? You have been most kind always and do believe I am grateful… Please reply in plain envelope so [567] will not open.”

R2. 12/21/35 EC’s letter expressed regret at [567]‘s condition: “Would it not be better to have someone there with him like Gray Salter who was with him at Dr. H. J. Reilly’s SUN AIR FARM in Oak Ridge, N.J.? …I think he understands [567] and might handle it there if you think it feasible…that is the best I have to suggest… There must be a way, for no matter how far we may be away, God has prepared a way of escape if we will but take hold. I know you have spent money here and there and to everyone that offered any hope, and it has grown worse rather than better; but I do know that [567] was better when he left Dr. Reilly’s farm and he wasn’t having to take things to hold them down.”

R3. 12/26/35 Father [643]‘s letter:

Your letter to Mrs. [652] received this morning and thanks for it. I have advised against bothering you in the matter of further readings. They cannot change the original which has not been lived up to at any time.

We have tried out several things to our dismay. The L.A. Specialist said it was the glands, as you did. He has treated [567] for several months. When he did not get results as he wanted he put him to the Kitogenic diet, which we tried without ANY benefit and at huge expense, Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, Calif, and luminol.

My friendly doctors have told me it was too bad to use luminol. Not habit forming but with an awful let down.

[567] is better. You would notice it, but he keeps on with his excesses, such as cigarettes, coffee, coco cola, candy, etc. although stoutly disavowing same when asked. Now he [is] laborering on the pipe line, natural gas, from here to Superior, Arizona.

His first week’s pay check went into the slot machine; the coming one is partly gone. He has the habit, natural to him and when I think of attempting a cure from totally outside help it makes me certain that we are up hill until he does a small part of the things he should do. He is woefully weak in these things.

I have given up my whole time to him, and that was a real job, have neglected business staying here and am not in an enviable position. Mrs. [652] wants Gray Salter to come out and visit him so she can get away before the crack up in her own health.

I feel this necessary but this would cost money, a scarce commodity now. Gray would no doubt leave it here and if he is unemployed I could put him up and allow him some cash each week, little it is true and he might want to remain in this country. Men love it.

I suggest that when readings are asked for you should write up a report, if you want sans the reading. They are not followed and what is the use? Yet, if the mind is satisfied there might be good from your letter. You might dwell on;

1. Weak willed defense. 2. Nicotine more present than is good. 3. More sleep during the dark. After 10 hrs. on the job he still loses his sleep each night in town, for slot machine earnings.

I am about ready to give it up, put him on the spot as to being a man and allow discipline and privation to waken him up. He is too well able to get what he wants.

R4. 3/16/36 Father [643]‘s letter:

I am nearer cracked than before as [567] is under a Dr’s care in L.A. and has a special nurse, the mother of Moon Mullins the prizefighter there and he has a good home and friends of the same class. Fine people evidently.

Dr. W. Costello Bray, 4100 Beverly Blvd. Los Angeles is the man. The first one who seems to have any sense at all. His diagnosis on [567] was 100 percent as I believe it to be and he went directly after the atlas and the dorsals between the shoulders.

He keeps him with him in his spare moments, is a good friend and we KNOW that [567] is now on his way to a cure.

This man is a medic, chiropractor, osteopath, natura therapy, etc. He has 8 degrees, a snappy one of small stature and with mental development rather than beef.

Six weeks ago [567] could not come out of a turn he had here. I cared for him while his mother was in Pasadena resting. I decided that disregarding pressure the lack of exercise in getting his blood to flow was enough to poison a well man. I brought him home at 5 PM ready to take the train for L.A. I gave him a jumping rope and he did 500 steps then a cold plunge in the bath. When he was dressed he almost cried as he said; “dad, this is the first time in 8 years that I have felt like living. I can feel the fingers and toes tingle with life.” He snapped out of the haze he was in and then we found this Dr. Bray, through a writing woman in L.A. I went in after 2 weeks and she called my story the same as with Mrs. [652].

[567]‘s blood was black and he was constipated altho he insisted not. He feels great, is happy and singing, has gone days without a turn and the whole darned thing is toxic poison with the spinal pressure.

Dr. Bray works him over 14 times per week.

R5. 2/2/37 Father [643]‘s letter:

My dear Mr. Cayce;

Two letters relative to stock subscription [1/11/37 See under 1800-29 Reports in re Health Home Remedies Corp.] reminds me again that for too long have I neglected writing to you.

[567] is still under the medics. And they have about finished me. At the moment he is with Dr. Fareed, Glendale, California, a Johns Hopkins man, at 100.00 per week. It is cheap this stuff.

Naturally my whole time is taken in raising this awful amount of money.

I cannot meet the obligations of the family, let alone make investments.

The boy does nothing to help himself. I have long since become discouraged. You see the turns are painless and they must be comfortable as he comes out of them with a smile. Were it like a tooth pulled he would bestir himself and so something.

His exercise is nil. He entirely fails in the little effort I would love to see. Of course, also the effect on the brain must be waxing greater as nothing is status quo in this world.

I would like to see you again and certainly shall if I get into your neighborhood. In the meantime I send every good wish.

R6. 4/26/37 Arizona, Father [643]‘s letter:

I am just back from the gold mill operation and well sinking where [567] is spending his time.

In the last week he seems to have awakened more. He realizes that life holds many thrills for the one who measures up to it and misery if he does not. It is evident that he progresses.

Each breath is 100% pure, dry air. His food is wholesome even if perhaps a bit out of line with doctor’s orders, most of which is the junk anyway. He has turned spiritual for which I am thankful and makes no “bones” of it. His trips to town, when he does get in here, are less frequent. In another month I believe he will come in and stay with me with no trip to the town, drugstores, street corners, gambling places and saloons.

Was with him 4 days. He smoked not at all. Rather wonderful considering the hold cigarettes has on one.

He has lost that sickly white color. He is as brown as a Mexican. Even dark. The sun has smoothed up that sickly back. His skin is clear, he has fine color and his muscles are becoming hard. He will be able to “take me” in a little while.

I do not say he is well. 13 years to tear down needs time to replace. His mother is in California as it was decided that she was a hindrance to his improvement. He leans on her when she is available and so I pilot the ship. We often think of you and some day I will be dropping in to pay my respects. I finally had to take bankruptcy. The medics finished me in addition to some purchase money mortgages which the Semitic Gentry held over me. But now it does seem good to start over again, which process will begin as soon as [567] is ready to stick it out when I go East. He say he’s ready now to come along shoulder to shoulder.

R7. 12/19/38 Arizona, Father [643]‘s letter:

My dear Mr. Cayce;

I hope you have not thought that I had forgotten you but this might indicate it account of the size of check and the delay in sending. It is the widow’s mite.

The medicos have been taking me since I last saw you and one of the worst in Phoenix is suing for the balance. Business since Dec. 1937, 13% of the year, 1937, which in itself was very poor compared to any year in twenty nine of them.

[567] became gradually worse. Last May I took him to Chicago and placed him in the University of Ill. Research Hospital, 1819 West Polk St. where he has seemed to improve. I believe his mental normalcy has been pretty well restored. I do not know that this will cure him; Insulin, metrasol and fever therapy. However I did notice during the summer that many young people were given back to their parents ready to again take up their lives. Some of them were marvelous.

I still believe your diagnosis is correct. Eggs are desperately bad for him. IF he eats no eggs, still there CAN be enough of them in the bread, cake, etc. that he gets to keep him under. Doctors overlook so many possibilities and are so careless.

I often think of you. Will drop in some day for a chat when when least expected. I do not get as far down as your place. I hope all is well with you and yours and that this will be a real Xmas.

R8. 7/60 In Dr. W. N. Pahnke’s abstract of 96 cases of epilepsy from the Edgar Cayce records he classified Case [567] in group 1. “The patient was described as being very nervous as well as having epileptic attacks. Some improvement was noted but the treatment was not followed thoroughly. There are no follow-up reports, since 1935.”
