This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of February, 1931, in accordance with request made by her husband, Mr. […] - through Mr. [417].

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [5699]. Now, we find there are some abnormal conditions with this body. While the conditions that exist may be in the present stage eliminated from the system, were these to be allowed to continue - or were the conditions to be corrected and not corrected in a proper manner - we will find greater distresses later on in the physical forces of the body; for the conditions are rather of a HIDDEN nature. While the EFFECTS that are created in the physical FUNCTIONS are apparent, the CAUSES are rather of a HIDDEN nature.

2. There has, as we find with this body - [5699] we are speaking of - existed for some time a condition in which IMPULSES, especially for the circulation, have been hindered; especially as that as related to eliminations from portions of the system, as to cause to exist - from this improper elimination - those conditions in the soft tissue of the face, the nostril. The pressure and the distress that is caused in same makes for those accumulations that hinder in the vision, and in the active forces of the sensory system. The pressure, then, as we find, that has produced this, lies in the upper dorsal area and through the whole cervical area.

3. FIRST, in times back, we had - as it were - pains occasionally through the body under the right shoulder blade. Then, as these were relieved, headaches ensued, with acute pains at times in the neck and head, just at the base of brain. With drainages set up, with the circulation increased through heart’s action, this relieved for a time. Then the teeth, the antrum, and those about the nostril began to show the signs of congestion; first as that as considered of the infectious forces (of a mild nature) in the bony structures themselves; pains across the face at times; then the vision - as of dilation of the pupil itself.

4. In the BEGINNING of this trouble, we find that there has existed for times back an infectious force that has caused the condition to become LOCALIZED whenever there has been an INDENTATION - as it were, or a subligation [subluxation], or a pressure in a cerebro-spinal center.

5. The mental activities of the body have often had much to do with the general physical condition, through the determinations within the body itself.

6. Now these explanations to many would apparently seem to be superfluous, but are the conditions to be studied - or to be considered from the wholly pathological and psychological effects that are created in a physical body - they must be taken into consideration.

7. The effects as produced by this determination in the body have altered the pressures, yet gradually has the system builded under this depression in the upper dorsal - from apparently sometime hugged too tight, or pressed too hard on the back; this causing at the time an area of hindered circulation, and then - with this condition existent in system itself - set up a condition which prevents drainages in the system, ESPECIALLY to those portions in the face, head, neck, and all of the sensory system.

8. The auditory forces, or the ears themselves at times, show a ringing - or a tendency of thumping, as crickets - or low drum beats in the ear. These are EFFECTS, NOT causes.

9. Now, to treat the conditions without respect to the general system and the conditions that are produced - or without respect to the first causes - will only be to temporize conditions, or to change or alter or put off the conditions which would eventually arise.

10. The effects that are created in other portions of the body:

11. At times the body feels buoyant and over active, as it were - especially as to doing things and going places! Then again we have just the REVERSE, not wanting to be out, to be seen, or especially to mingle with people. These are effects of that psychopathic condition that is builded in the INTERNAL system, from that which is ALLAYED by the whole vitality of the body - but is ever present, as one that would show itself.

12. In the lungs, larynx, bronchi - naturally, from the drainages, we find these show the effect of at times dryness through the throat; the lungs at times feel fuller, and at others as dry. No ORGANIC disorder, purely functional - and mostly sympathetic.

13. Heart’s action irregular; that is, in its pulsation - also as to the PRESSURE in the blood supply.

14. The digestive organism - inasmuch as most of this has been attended to, or fed through same - most of the time is very good, considering the general conditions of the body; yet the hepatic circulation (that is, the liver and the kidneys) shows the effect of a hindered circulation through the whole body, and at times there is the tendency for a tickling feeling - as it were - in the liver area, or especially in the lacteals. At other times there is as of a MOVEMENT in the kidneys, or the kidney area; dull heaviness across the kidney area, making for tiredness later on in the lower limbs.

15. Now, to meet the needs of these conditions, as we find them with this body:

16. In considering the whole condition, there must be consideration taken as to that which will reach the BASIS or the first CAUSES, as WELL as those conditions that have been produced by the disturbance in the system.

17. We would, then, consider first that already existent - or that condition that has been PRODUCED and is LOCALIZING itself, as to vision - as to the nasal and throat condition - as to the face and facial EXPRESSIONS even at times, for the effects are as pains through the jaws themselves, or just under the eye in the soft portion, and this ringing in the ears, and this fullness in throat.

18. These, then, will need - as it were - LOCAL attention. These, we will find, should have those activities of the cleansing or antiseptic nature, with the stimuli of the eliminations in the system; and WITH this later add (and later doesn’t mean put it off for several months! means begin in fifteen to eighteen days after these local applications or treatments are given) those properties that will affect DIRECTLY the blood supply as related to that ASSIMILATED in the system.

19. In the local treatments, we would use first those that will OPEN the antrums. Now this isn’t easy, but should be done by one competent in such matters; using those fish oils or those conditions that will CLARIFY same, see? the black fluids, made sufficiently liquid to cleanse same.

20. We would also have some local attention to the teeth, for there are the infections from the soft tissue or drainages stopping in the teeth themselves. It would be well that some of these be treated locally, and it would be well that some of these be REMOVED - as at least one or two; and when these have had sufficient time to clarify (which would come along together) begin with manipulations deeply given, as to correct the system especially in the dorsal AND cervical area. We would ALSO EMPTY the gall bladder osteopathically.

Why? As the circulation is to be set up for eliminations, and the blood supply is to be aided in carrying new tissue or new building material to those portions that are to be clarified by the use of those properties in the soft tissue of face and nasal cavities, this will necessitate that NEW blood and the NEW eliminations and drainages will be perfected - that the body may glow as with new life!

21. Now, after fifteen to eighteen days, begin taking THIS as compounded together:

22. Take 1 gallon of rain water or distilled water, and add to same:

Wild Cherry Bark…2 ounces, (Put them all in the water at once) Sarsaparilla Root…2 ounces, Dogwood Bark…1 ounce, Prickly Ash Bark…1 ounce, Cincho Bark…1/2 ounce, Buchu Leaves…1/2 ounce, Mandrake Root…20 grains (No more!).

Reduce this by slow boiling to 1 quart. Strain while it is warm and then add 1 dram of Tolu cut in 2 ounces of grain alcohol. The dose of this would be teaspoonful 3 times each day.

23. In the manipulations, these would be necessary from the beginning - and those corrections. (Dr. Daly will do this very good.) We will find that the alleviation of that pressure existent in the 4th and 5th dorsal, especially, will clear much of the head noises. While the use of those properties to clear the facial soft tissue will cause pain for a while, the manipulations in the CERVICAL and LOWER dorsal area will quiet the body materially. See? Ready for questions.

24. (Q) In what order should the treatments be begun? (A) As given, we should begin with those cleansings of the face soft tissue, see? and as the body feels able, cleanse the system of these teeth conditions. The manipulations begin almost immediately, see?

25. (Q) How often should manipulations be given? (A) This would be almost indeterminate. As has been given here, REGULAR TREATMENTS would be every other DAY - but when there is being given this condition for the FACE, and this is BREAKING UP, we will find it may be necessary for a gentle treatment of the osteopath to QUIET the whole system - as has been suggested.

26. We are through for the present.

R1. 1/27/56 Letter from [5699]‘s husband: ”…I just finished reading a very interesting book on hypnosis by Morey Bernstein entitled A Search For Bridey Murphy. In it Mr. Bernstein talks about the remarkable powers exhibited by your deceased father. Now my reason for writing you is this: About 25 years ago my wife [5699] had some illness. A friend of mine [417] told me of the amazing powers of diagnosing body illnesses, by your father; the body of the patient could be miles away. Mr. [417]‘s son, [758] had been correctly diagnosed by your father’s readings. Mr. [417] suggested that I allow your Dad to do this for my wife. After full arrangements were made I received a written report which I’ve lost from your father which apparently correctly diagnosed my wife’s illness and its location in her body.

“Through you, as you have your father’s records, could I get a copy of this diagnosis if it exists? Thank you for your courtesy in the matter. I want it for my son who is presently studying such matters…”
