This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - through mother - Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading In the church, Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Texas.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, it is not the regular church, but it is beautiful - he prays.

3. Here we find, through the areas of the lacteal duct and gall duct, adhesions that cause these spells or the reactions and the falling sickness.

4. This as we find, may, through the application of Castor Oil Packs, be helped. These Packs should come rather regularly, three days at a time. Use at least three thicknesses of flannel, saturated with the Castor Oil. Apply this over the lacteal duct, gall duct and caecum for at least an hour each day for three days in succession each week. At the end of the three days, take internally two tablespoonsful of Olive Oil (not Castor Oil).

5. These come from the portion of the umbilical plexus where there was an injury in times back. This will necessitate a delicate massage to break up these lesions, and these are to be given at least following each three-day series of the Packs, and especially should be taken when the feeling of a little headache begins.

6. Under the physician’s care (or the osteopath may have same prepared) give Bromidia. This should be taken as the sedative.

7. Keep up the eliminations by the use of Oil Packs, followed by the Olive Oil. Do these and we will correct these conditions.

8. Pray about it a lot, not merely at this time, for you may be given that which may be helpful, but apply it and seek to use thy abilities in constructive ways with thy associates.

9. We are through.

R1. 5/11/44 Mother’s report: “Received the psychic reading given for my son [5732]. We are much pleased and have really begun to hope for his complete recovery.

“I have started using the castor oil packs and his first osteopathic treatment will be Saturday 13th.

“The address of the osteopath is Dr. Knapp - member of Dr. Bailey’s Osteopathic Clinic. I left a copy of your reading with him.

“Will write you from time to time giving the results of the treatment.”

R2. 5/15/44 EC wrote: “Glad you are pleased with the reading undertaken for [5732]. I believe you will get results if you will follow through as suggested.

R3. 7/26/60 W. N. Pahnke’s letter:

Dear. Mr. [5732]

I need your help in carrying out a research project in which I am engaged. I am examining the Edgar Cayce records in an attempt to determine common patterns in the forms of treatments recorded in certain diseases. I am trying to discover the practical value of those treatments in the cases for which the readings were given.

One of the diseases I am studying is epilepsy. I would appreciate a brief follow-up report from you on the results you got from your own personal reading. I would like to know 1) if you thought the description in your reading fitted your case, 2) for how long and 3) to what extent you followed the treatment, 4) and what results were obtained. Please be frank. If you thought the reading was inaccurate or if after an honest and careful trial you noted no improvement I would like to know this just as much as if you had a complete cure. Most important of all, are you still suffering from convulsions in any form?

You may be certain that your answer and your original reading and correspondence will be kept strictly confidential in my analysis of the material.

The following notes were taken on cases as read and are merely the opinion of the abstractor at the time he read the case plus the correspondence. The main value of these notes is that they give some indication of what the exact diagnosis in each case may or may not be.

Case [5732] was classified in group 2. There was no description of the illness except for the mother’s diagnosis of epilepsy. There was no doctor’s report and no follow up.

B1. 9/6/43 [5732]‘s mother’s letter to EC: “After reading the article in ‘Coronet’ about your wonderful work, have decided that after all there is one more hope left.

“I have two persons, my husband [no reading given for him] and son that I wish to write you about. First my son, [5732], he is twenty-four years old and since he was five, he has been afflicted with epileptic fits, not hereditary. However he graduated from high school and has nearly one year college work. He is capable of holding good positions, but when his trouble is found out he is discharged.

“He enlisted in the Army - thought maybe so great a change and training would help him. He stayed in eight months before they finally discovered his trouble.

“He has an honorable discharge, with a footnote on the discharge that his efforts were not in vain.

“Two months ago he married, of course told the girl about his trouble. He has been taking medicine for ten years, it only just helps and that very little.

“I can’t begin to tell you how anxiously I await your reply.

“In regard to fees, we are not poor neither are we rich, but if I had to spend the rest of my life repaying you, would gladly do so if you can do something for my son and husband. Now will tell you about my husband’s illness…”

B2. 10/19/43 Mother applied for [5732]‘s reading: “Please will you give this reading for him as soon as you can, as we are so hopeful as to your doing something good for him.”

B3. 11/15/43 Mother’s letter to EC: “Received your letter stating you would be unable to give my son’s reading before May third 1944.

“I know as you explained to me you have readings a year in advance, but this was such a disappointment to my son as he is trying so desperately to hold a definite job. I hesitate asking you Mr. Cayce as I know every one thinks their case is the most urgent, but owing to the nature of my son’s illness thought perhaps you might give him an early date.

“If you can we would be so grateful to you, as his whole life seems to depend on your reply to us.

“I really hate to request this for to a stranger it seems so selfish, and if the nature of his illness was anything else I assure you I would never make this request.

“Please if you can will you comply?”

B4. 11/24/43 EC wrote saying it would be impossible to make an earlier appointment and expressing his regret, offering to return their membership fee if they thought it was too long to wait.

B5. 4/23/44 Mother’s letter: “He is drafting for the gas company here in … and at the appointed hours for his reading will go to church and pray, as also will his father and myself pray for his health and happiness.”
