R1. 3/26/44 P.M. Rdg. attempted: “We don’t find the body here.” GD’s memo: Sorry, but probably address not sufficient. It is necessary to have the exact address at which the child will be during the hour set. Also preferable that the parents themselves write us giving this information, and submitting the questions they wish to have asked in the Rdg. If not satisfactory, we’d be glad to return the membership fee. [First reading suggestion was: “[5744] at the home of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. […] in …, Miss.”]

R2. GD’s memo: Parents wrote requesting another appointment which was made for 7/11/44, but due to EC’s illness was not kept.

R3. 6/44 Letter from mother:

[5744] at the home of her parents, … Plantation, 8 mi. So. of …, Miss.

“From all appearances she was a strong healthy normal baby. Not until she was 8 mo. old did the doctors notice any trouble. At that time I consulted them as I became worried over the fact that the child could not sit alone. She has never been able to walk and I have considered sending her to Dr. R. F. Darnall who is head of Solasco Sanitarium School at Alexander, Ark., in the hope that she could be taught to walk. I can’t make up my mind, however, to put her in care of others and I’d like help on this question from you.

“I have, of course, taken her to several doctors, none of whom will say or know what caused her condition. They all agree it could have been a birth injury.”

1. Any advice or help you can give the mother in regard to this child will be greatly appreciated.

R4. GD’s memo: Since the reading was attempted on 3/26/44 and the statement made “We don’t find the body here,” this case was given the number [5744] and included in the EC records. Also it occurred to me that the lack of any description of the child’s condition may have prevented contact, indicating a lack of trust or seeking on the part of the parents, etc. EC’s appointments were so far in advance, and he was becoming ill, so that apparently only those who were most sincere and cooperative were able to have their appointments filled.
