Sirs:

About 1921 or 1922 I became extremely nervous. The strain of meeting all the requirements made on me became so great, while physically doing as expected my mind stopped responding. For instance, at school I could not add a column of figures; I could not remember what I had studied the night before. Then I began to gasp for breath, audibly. The doctor said I was on the verge of St. Vitus Dance.

Dr. Andrew Sargeant, Hopkinsville, Ky., gave me chiropractic treatments, and electric treatments, to no effect. He called Edgar Cayce to watch him give me a treatment. When Mr. Cayce told the doctor what would help, he told Mother. She thought it was all foolishness and did nothing. Then, either Mr. Cayce or the doctor told my father. Dad said a man told him Mr. Cayce said to teach me to drive the car, and turn me loose - that I had been trained properly - I was 18 - and could be trusted. Not to worry. Just turn me loose.

Later it was said that I was the best driver in town. It took years, but I overcame the shameful gasping spells - reaction to whatever bothered me. But even this year I have felt the reaction in my throat, but refuse to gasp.

(Continued) Born in 1902. Dropped out of high school at 18. Went to Bethel Female College - Academy - and finished High School.

In 1948 I went to Austin Peay State College, Clarksville, Tenn., daily, and graduated from College.

In 1950-1956 - during summers - I went to Peabody Library School and got my M.A. in Library Science.

I worked until I was 67, and was asked to stay on.

I still take study courses; formerly by correspondence - now I research and write papers on whatever subject interests me. I have many books and some encyclopaedias. At least my mind still works. Although with a curved spine, a formerly broken back and resulting paralysis, I walk, I keep my house, I teach disadvantaged adults to prepare for the G.E.D. test so they can get jobs.

God has been VERY GOOD to me, thanks to Edgar Cayce and various churches I have attended.

May I whisper it? embarrassedly - I know the Bible better than a good many preachers. But only once - to my shame - have I embarrassed one.

R2. 9/3/85 Jeanette Thomas’ note: [in E.C.F.] I spoke to a woman the other day who had an experience with Edgar Cayce as a young girl. I asked her to write it down and send it to us for the archives - which she did - you will find it attached.

R3. 9/4/85 GD to CTC: I typed up her handwritten letter for you, since it did not come clear on the xerox and I wanted to keep her original for the file. There is no record of her having a reading, though I remember the McGehee family being mentioned by the Cayces. Mr. Cayce corresponded with Dr. Andrew Sargeant, dictating to me, regarding several patients who were referred to him for treatment. I think this Dr. Sargeant was a cousin of Edgar Cayce. He also corresponded with his cousins Mary and Susie Sargeant, in Ky. - same spelling. I think they were related on EC’s mother’s side of the family.

I’m going to give Miss McGehee a Case number [See Par. R1] and list her with the many others who are known to have had readings of which we have no copy.

We have one OTHER case of St. Vitus Dance of which we DO have a copy, w/report. [See Case [1225], M 19 yrs.]
