This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 11th day of June, 1934, in accordance with request made by self - Miss [580], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:20 to 11:35 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama. (Body and enquiring mind, who seeks information, advice, counsel and guidance as to the proper procedure to obtain employment at the present time. You will give any information which would be of value to her at this time, and answer the questions that will be asked.)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, and those conditions that present themselves as problems in the experience of the body, [580], at this time.

2. As we find, in considering the conditions and the situations, while there are in the making those conditions wherein the body may make connections and associations for the better and greater development under the environs and the activities that have prompted the body in its preparation for the activities in this material plane, with the changes in the institutional work - or institution there in the environ and surrounding we will find soon associations can be made, but these are rather of the temporary nature.

3. And for that which would be the more permanent, as we find, we would go through the regular channels and enroll for activity with the Red Cross, and with the Government in their reconstruction activities; and these not the activities that would be disorganizing, but that would make for permanent associations and connections that would be the more helpful, and the more contentment for the activities of the body.

4. These, to be sure, require time, but - as we find, as has been given - they will make for the connections that will be the most helpful and the better developments for the body.

6. (Q) Is the temporary connection referred to that with the Baptist Hospital? (A) Baptist Hospital and associations, yes.

In making application for the Red Cross, as we find, it should be with the State and NATIONAL organization. Not for the State alone, but rather for the Government AND State, see? and in the NATIONAL for reconstructions, which will include - of course - rather the activities in the LAND, or at home rather than in the armies that would be for abroad, you see.

7. (Q) To whom and where should the Government application be made? (A) To the GOVERNMENT - it can’t be made to any individual! though, to be sure, it goes through those regular channels. The application would be made to the State Headquarters, Birmingham, of the Red Cross; also the NATIONAL Red Cross - which is from the Washington headquarters. And as the President is at the head, APPLY DIRECT!

8. (Q) How should the approach be to the Baptist Hospital and thru whom? (A) Through the Superintendent.

These, as we find, for this body - with its development, with its ability mentally and physically - would be the correct channels for the body’s activities.

Do that.

9. (Q) Is there any other advice that would benefit me at this time? (A) As we find, if these are followed, with that same sincere activity, there will be the associations and connections most satisfactory.

Go directly to the Headquarters, you see. As an outline, this: To the President, Chief Executive of the American Red Cross - or to Hoover, but the President, of course, is at the head. State the PERSONAL reasons. Address it DIRECT! And you’ll get action!

My dear Mr. Cayce -

Please forgive me for waiting this long to answer your letter and to thank you for the Reading. I have been very busy and just haven’t had a chance to write before. I do thank you and appreciate your kindness more than you’ll ever know. I haven’t heard from the Red Cross yet, but have been out to the Baptist Hospital, and I want you to know that the Reading is working out already. The Supt. of nurses said she is going to get the Doctors to let her put on someone to do the mending and make the Doctors scrub suits. She said it wouldn’t pay much at first, but if it was necessary I could relieve the nurses on the floors and help out in the kitchen when the Dietician is off, and as I do more work she will pay more salary. I feel very encouraged about it all. She said she believes in giving people the work when they have no one else to support them, and that she will certainly give me that job or any other she can. I told her I am willing to do anything just to get started back in the nursing work again. And to judge from the way she talked to me I believe I will be making headway before very long. Thanks to you.

The Supt. of the Orphanage [where [580] was brought up] asked me to come here and stay until I can find a job. I help with the work wherever I can for just my room and board. But as you know that is a big help. It was very nice of him to ask me and I appreciate it very much.

Everyone is so interested in my Reading. Two of my friends want me to ask you to give them one. I told them they would have to ask themselves. So when you write you may tell them if I am correct in this. One of them wants to go into a business in the fall and wants advice about it.

You have no idea how much better I feel about everything now, and I am under ever lasting obligation to you for helping me out. I will let you know how I get along from time to time.

R2. 9/8/34 Mrs. [771]‘s ltr.: “Your blanks were given me by [580], our mutual friend. You did such wonderful things for her that I wish it was humanly possible for me to join your society…Had a letter from [580] today - she is more than delighted with her place at the […] Hospital.”

R3. 4/6/36 “[580] is still working at the job you told her about, so I have faith.”

R4. GD’s note: Sometime in the mid-fifties, I believe, I heard that Miss [580] had given up her well established job with the same hospital to marry a well-to-do farmer. [No! See 580-1 Par. R5 update!]

R5. 10/26/79 GD’s note: Today I talked to [580]. She says she did not marry - “Could not find anybody that would have me!”

She left her job at the hospital in … [Al.] and went to La. to nurse her sister until the sister died; then she went back into hospital work for awhile. After retirement she returned to her home town and is living next door to her younger brother and his wife. She asked to be brought up to date on the A.R.E. program.

R6. 12/22/79 On a Xmas card to GD she spoke nostalgically of Virginia Beach and the Cayce Hospital, saying: “I loved it there - will never forget the beautiful view I had from my window in the hospital [nurses’ quarters 3rd floor].”

B2. 6/8/34 “I have tried to get in the Baptist and […] Memorial hospitals here. Would it do any good to try again. They have a new Supt. coming to the Baptist on Sun. I wonder if she will be able to do anything for me.”
