EC: Yes, we have the body, [631]; this we have had before. In many respects there are changes for the better. While there are still those conditions that disturb the body, these arise from the reactions that are setting in, and will be less and less severe in their reaction - or their severeness in the reaction. Less and less pains for the head. The tautness in the extremities, the stiffness and soreness and swellings will gradually dissipate.
-
We would keep those things that have been indicated, with the Epsom Salts baths, the oil rubs, and about three times each week - as given - give the Gold and Soda. These should be made in separate solutions. The Chloride of Gold one grain to one ounce of distilled water. The Bicarbonate of Soda five grains to one ounce of distilled water. The dose would be, in half a glass of water, twice the quantity of Soda solution as the Gold solution, once each day; that is, we will say, on Monday give - in the half glass of water - two minims of the Gold and four minims of the Soda. On Wednesday give three of Gold and six of the Soda. On Saturday, four minims of Gold and eight minims of Soda. The next week the same, two, three, four, with twice the quantity of the Soda.
-
For the abrasions, or where there is the effect of centralizing of conditions of poisons - of this and that nature, from those things we have indicated, we would use a poultice of bruised plantain leaves - prepared in this manner:
-
Bruise very thoroughly the plantain leaves, using one ounce with two ounces oil of butterfat or very thick fresh cream. Boil together. When cold, apply as an ointment to the place. We will find it will soon leave and dry up.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What cleanser should be used on it? (A) Very weak solution Bichloride, or BETTER a tannic acid solution. Pour sufficient tannic acid in small quantity of water - that is, the tannic acid POWDER poured in small quantity of water so that it may be sprayed or put on, when it’s very well colored, you see.
-
(Q) Should the Epsom Salts baths be continued while the hip is in this condition? (A) The Epsom Salts would be continued by the use of packs on those portions of the body and limbs where the swelling and the disorders have disturbed the body.
-
(Q) Should the Castor Oil packs be continued; if so, how often? (A) These should be continued at least twice or three times each week for two or three hours at a time.
-
(Q) What is causing the indigestion and what will relieve same? (A) Be mindful of those things as given for the diet, for the indigestions, or those foods that will act best with these conditions; and use a solution after meals - after each meal, for three to four days, then stop and when necessary give again. In half a glass of water put:
Essence of Lactated Pepsin…5 minims, Milk of Bismuth…20 minims.
-
(Q) During what period of the day should the Gold and Soda be taken? (A) Any period. Preferably not at the meal time, but either before or between meals.
-
(Q) Any further advice? (A) We would do these, as we have given.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/10/34 Dr. H. J. Reilly’s ltr.: “Mrs. [631] has been making very good progress since she had her reading. Gray Salter is treating her.
“Gray tells people that fried foods and other tabood foods that we do not serve at the house are quite O.K. and that he eats them. Of course he makes many mistakes through lack of judgment.”
R2. 9/15/34 Mr. [567]‘s letter to EC: “I arrived here at the Sun Air Farm and met a Mrs. [631], one of your patients. I noticed her kicking about the food several times and saw that our diet was not being followed as per your orders. I talked to Dr. Reilly and arranged for a separate table for the two of us and since then our diet has been strictly followed.”
R3. 11/5/34 Mrs. [631] was present for her ck. rdg. 631-4.
R4. 11/10/57 Hilda M. Green of Daly City, California writes:
I follow Edgar Cayce’s advice regarding diet for arthritis and find that it greatly helps me. I rarely have pain now and if and when I do I give myself castor oil packs.
My husband is no longer alive and so I cannot have the oil massages he used to give me and I cannot afford to pay for treatment so do the best I can to help myself and I am very well satisfied.
During a bad flare up four years ago Dr. Rappold, D.C. treated me and I took the file on arthritis to him. He was very good and got me back on my feet.
I am extremely grateful to Edgar Cayce for his wonderful work and for the continuation of all that he believed in and was. God Bless you all and dear Edgar Cayce.
Sincerely, Hilda M. Green
P.S. I try to help others by telling them of the castor oil treatment, some listen others do not. HG.
R5. 1/18/81 Jean Hunter Chilton of Sparta Ontario writes:
Dear Friends at A.R.E.
My daughter, Dorothy Hunt of LaSalle, Ont., a member of the A.R.E. brought me a castor oil pack when she returned from a conference last August. I want to tell you how much it has helped the arthritis in my hands. I can pick up a pin now something I hadn’t done for months and haven’t had any pain since the first week of using the packs. I still have the bumps but am confident they too will disappear with continued treatment. I have recommended it to several friends here in Florida where we are spending some time this winter.
Thank you again.
Sincerely, Jean Chilton
