This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at The Oakland, 2006 Columbia Road, Washington, D.C., this 12th day of October, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [692], new Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Cayce lecture at Willard Hotel on Oct. 5th.

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity, those relations with the universe and universal forces that are latent and manifested in the personalities of the entity called [692].

2. In entering we find there were conditions that surrounded the advent of this entity into this experience that of themselves would be of interest in some fields of thought.

3. In giving that which may be helpful, hopeful to the entity in meeting those experiences that are latent and manifested in this present experience, the influences from the sojourns in the environs about the earth would give an insight into those things that are as innate urges and that find expression by the application of that which is the impelling influence of the entity upon those circumstances or experiences created by the mental urge.

4. From the sojourn in the Mercurian influence there are the mental abilities, those things pertaining to the innate expressions that find manifestations in the desires for details concerning conditions, circumstances, or any influence that makes for an activity in the experience of self. And it is the more often found questioned in the experience of self when others do not show the same kind of interest in such things; making for the abilities to comprehend that of the mental nature.

5. As to the influences in Mars with Jupiter and Saturn (for these are as a cycle), we find that innate conditions or things pertaining to the influences from Mars in wrath, in madness, in quick activity on the part of those about and of the entity itself have made for changes in the experience or the environment of the entity in the present experience. Being tempered with influences in Jupiter and Saturn AT TIMES has made, from the Martian influences, changes in the whole of the environ of the entity, and in the ability of applications of those influences that have been the active forces in the material experiences; starting of new conditions, new surroundings, new outlooks, and those things that make for that which is the basis of the entity’s activities.

6. The Uranian influence makes for extreme conditions; and those with whom the entity may be associated come, as a matter of fact, to make the entity a confidante of their experiences. Also those things of the occult or mystic nature come in the experience of the entity. Hence where those forces that make for the manifestations of such conditions are the more active in their relationships to others, the entity may succeed from the material or commercial standpoint in its relationships to others; as a confidante, as a secretarial activity, as that in which confidences or places of position and responsibility come through the activity of others; these make for the INNATE conditions that will find, do find, expressions in the entity’s experience in the present.

7. The sojourns in the earth, through the various experiences in same, bring - as we find - what may be said to be the influences in the characterization of the associations in EVERY field of the entity’s experience in the present. Then:

8. Before this we find the entity was during those periods, in the land of the present nativity, when there were the gatherings of those people who came to this new land for the escaping of the persecutions on account of the religious movements of the people.

9. The entity then was among those who later became known as the Friends that had made for, did make for, a relation with those people in that land and those surroundings - that held for those periods when there were the greater opportunity for the commercial, the material, the soul and the spiritual developments of a growing in ever increasing numbers of the people joining in those activities.

10. Then in the name Carghill, the entity was among those that were born in those experiences or surroundings; and in the entity’s experience there were those activities that made for the preparations for the establishings of the community service in the religious activity, rather the groups that combined in their efforts in special directions as they were classified in their activities according to their abilities; being among those that were of the ruler character - or those that presided over the directing of such activities.

11. The entity was not what would be termed in the present a teacher wholly, yet of that nature wherein its companions and the surrounding individuals were DIRECTED in their choosing of that influence or activity of those peoples in that period; as an ADVISORY capacity, or as a directress in those relationships; thus bringing for the entity - through those experiences - the developments in not only the material but in the mental and spiritual phases of the entity’s experience, and from same arises in the present the abilities to supervise, the abilities to take orders - yes, rather to see and influence that the directions of self or others are carried forward in the way and manner the directions have been.

12. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the vineland, or that lying between those lands where many dissensions have later arisen - or what would be termed now along the fields in which the activities lying between France and German influence brought the destructive forces to the entity’s own peoples, in the years and years that came afterward; or in the expressions of those people where the activities brought about the expanding of the lands from the relationships between people that had, in their activities, the varied ways of governing and directing the people.

13. As the land became known as Alsace-Lorraine, in the great highest [Great Heist?] there came to the entity in the experience - as the divisions were being made - the experiences of the people being gathered from both lands to that entrance into the defense of the Holy Land, during the periods of the Crusade activity.

14. There were brought to the entity separations, periods when in the physical activities there were the necessities for the actions that brought turmoil and strife to many; yet - in the name Schweighelce - the entity gained rather through the experience; for the entity rose to a position where many of those that had been mistrusted, many of those that suffered under bodily persecution through the various characters of the enthrallments of the womenfolk left by the men, were counseled by the entity for the uniting of their strength for their own preservation. And from these arose those activities whereunto the entity’s own people, the Schweighelces, later brought a redemption not only for her own people but for all women in that experience. Hence in the present we will find that latent and manifested the independence of women in their activity and their relationships with those of her own and the opposite sex should be a thing apart, yet the cooperative influences that stand for the best of all. And the abilities in some of the fields of administrative activity arise from the entity’s experience during that sojourn.

15. Before that we find the entity was in that land through which much has been presented by the poets of old, in both the beauty and yet the savagery of those people in the Trojan activity, when Achilles and Hector in their activities brought to many of the common people only the revenge one upon another through the relations caused one with another.

16. The entity then was associated rather with the Achilles influences that finally overcame the Hector forces through the death of Hector. Achilles then was among those that made for the associations with the entity that brought the entity’s activities into the experience of many of the leaders of the period. And art, as well as literature through the entity’s activity, brought much to those peoples - as there was the restoring of peace among those of the isles and those of that land.

17. Then the entity was in the name Schulen, or Hulen - for it was both ways, as would be interpreted in the present.

18. In that experience the entity gained and lost; yet from that sojourn much of the determination arises, innately, that is oft expressed in the entity’s activity. Yet the beauty, the tenderness of heart, the relationships that may come about through the power of might and strength through RIGHT, bring to the entity an activity that answers for the purposefulness in self.

19. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as Egypt, during the periods when there was the entering in of those people when the land was subdued by the king who overran the land.

20. The entity was among the natives that were of the higher birth then, or of the ruling house - and of those that were in power. And with the dissensions that arose with the pitting of the young king with the high priest, or the prince of the land that was the priest, these made for - to the entity - dissension and strife, as of being suppressed in the activities.

21. Then the entity came under the influence of the Priest that began the establishment of the relationships of individuals with the people about them, the relationships of individuals with the Creative Forces; and the entity sided rather with the Priest during the period of banishment. Yet with the rebellions that arose later, the entity joined with the people in the Ibex divisions of the land. Later, with the advent of those people from the foreign shores and the beginning again of the activities in the land, the entity was raised to the position of supervisor over the distributions of the lessons that were gained through the establishments of the schools, both for the development of the applications for physical ills and the developments for the creating of the fires in the soul and the material affairs of individuals.

22. In the name Shehepetat, the entity became of those people that later were of that land when there was the pharaoh rule of the entity’s OWN people.

23. From that sojourn we may find in the present the seeking into those things pertaining to the historical valuation, the seeking and delving into the archaeological surveys that may be made; for the entity before - in that experience - encouraged and engaged in that undertaking.

24. Then, as to the abilities of the entity in the present, and that to which it may attain, and how:

As may be indicated from the activities in the earth and from the mental urges through the soul development in the spheres about same, the entity may direct others in those fields of activity where the applications of the thought gathered in statistical ways and manners will be of the greatest help to those as they work upon those things that become as data, as positive activities that may make for the development of individuals, whether in individual activities or in group or in classes. These fields will bring the satisfying of the longings in self, and the application of self in such a way and manner as to make for the material and the mental and the spiritual success.

26. Ready for questions.

27. (Q) Should the entity take up the study of a law course? (A) The study of a law course would in some manners assist the entity in the greater activity in those fields of a statistician, or datastician, or in searching out those fields that may be used, but as a direct application of self in the law field of activity, no.

28. (Q) What causes the entity’s attitude toward drink? (A) In the application of self in the experience just previous to this, there was the total abstaining; for the activities during that sojourn, with those people about same, were DRILLED, as it were, or expressed or manifested as to the DREAD, especially of that effect produced upon others. As was seen and demonstrated by those of the other colonies about the entity, this brought destructive physical forces in the experience of many of the younger settlers.

29. (Q) The entity would like to have explained the urge which seems to be indicated for an interest in women’s rights, which she seemingly does not have at the present time. (A) The interest is in following the activities of those, rather than being in the fore van of such an activity. The interest is innate, and is there. It manifests itself in the relationships of the entity with others. Yet, as has been indicated, this arose from the abilities and activities of the entity in its manifested actions in the earth.

Then, applying self in those fields in which the greater development for the mental, the spiritual, may come, in the gathering of those associations that may make for the greater development, will bring the material, the mental, the soul success.

30. (Q) Will you explain the marriage relation of this entity? (A) Yes. The strained conditions that arise in the experiences in the present are from those associations of the entity during the Crusade experience. Hence that arising of not the whole trust in self as respecting the entity, nor feeling as if wholly trusted by the companion. Yet, as we find, if these will be worked so as to be used as a LESSON, a greater development and UNDERSTANDING may come to each.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

After writing since 1924 or ‘25 for a life reading from you, [GD’s note: She told us she first heard of EC back in the early days when she was for a while part-time stenographer for Mr. [900] when he was writing the booklet, HEAVEN ON EARTH.] it is a case now “of what am I going to do with it?”

I’m quite positive it is entirely true. Many characteristics that are mine and many secret longings and inclinations are explained by that reading.

I understand life readings are mostly to aid and further our development spiritually, mentally and materially on this place, as much as possible. I would like to call in person, but would possible take up too much time, and you can read this at your leisure and answer in the same way.

I want to know if I am not following instinctly (?) along the right lines, as far as is possible, since my income is more or less fixed, and one can not always change their life completely.

I’ve been a stenographer and secretary ever since I was 18, and added to this was 6 months “miscellaneous correspondence clerk” in the government, and 5 years helping my husband establish and run a boy’s camp. The home was wrecked primarily on the basis of jealousy over that camp. The husband and a business partner could not stand having a 105-pounder, tell 250 pounds the best way to work out their business difficulties, and as long as they followed the little woman it proved right. When they disregarded things went wrong. It was too bad, because both men had wonderful abilities for social life and for visioning things for boys, and I had only the business detail. The men clubbed together and finally managed to separate me from the camp and the home; the next year they lost the camp - worth about $25,000.

I again turned back to secretarial work, and - talk about guardian angels - listen:

I was caught in New York City in 1931 without a position. I tried every place I could think of or be sent to, but there were no vacancies. I was being sent on a promise no other girl would be sent until I reported back to the agency, to a position that called for a reception girl in a wholesale millinery house. I wasn’t fitted for that I knew. I had always worked on the legal or professional side of the line. I never could remember names or faces, and look terrible in hats - one way not to sell them would be for me to try them on as a model. I had been told 9 years previous when I resigned from the government upon my marriage, if I ever wanted to come back let them know. There was a ruling though that one could be reinstated as many years after resignation as they had served. I had served 6 1/2 years. And I had refused to ask for reinstatement within that time because I could not bear to acknowledge that my husband had failed me in any way.

However, with the address in my pocket for a position for which I had been trying to get for over six weeks, I turned into the Grand Central Station wired my office here in Washington, asking for a temporary appointment, and then called up the agency and asked them to send out another girl, that I had just received word that there might be a possibility of my being reinstated in my government position.

Went home and waited for a reply. It came “Will you accept permanent appointment at low salary - $1440?” I wired “Yes”. Then a letter came saying if I contemplated a VISIT to Washington and now might be a good time to make the visit. I took the visit on the next train with enough money in my pocket to only feed me for two weeks. A friend let me stay with her for two weeks. The reinstatement was accomplished on my own affidavits as to my qualifications, and I found out afterwards because the personnel director of my office, notified the Secretary of the department that they needed help on a particular line of work the Secretary was rushing through, and that he had an expert stenographer on that line of work asking for reinstatement, and he asked the Secretary to use his “discretionary” powers to waive the 6 1/2 year clause.

If you understand government civil service red tape, you would understand how thankful I am, because I was reinstated practically on a telegram, and I squeezed in one week before Hoover issued the order no more appointments in government service.

Since then I have worked up from stenographer to the old position of miscellaneous correspondence clerk.

Lack of finances prevent me from taking law (which I desire to do to put me in a better position to take the next offer of advancement in work - you see I’m sure that is coming) or anything else that is cultural. And I am interested in that which is called religion. I’m delving around on that question right now. I’m fairly well convinced though on spirit return and communication and desire to develop mediumship because I think I can prove to heart hungry or heart sore people there is a hereafter in which they and their loved ones live. Even though this does mean what higher spiritual people term earth-bound ones. Few people living today are ready to accept or understand some higher spiritual philosophy, but they can be made to think, and do get comfort out of contacting one who has passed on just a few months or years previous.

Any explanation you can offer or suggestions for me will be accepted most gratefully. Can you suggest what years or where one might start historically to learn about the periods in which I have been?
