This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of December, 1927, in accordance with request made by her mother, Mrs. [2457].

Time of Reading … Street, 10:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for the improvement of same. You will answer any questions I may ask you regarding this.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here - this we have had before.

3. Now, we find there are many changes in the physical forces of the body since last we had this here, and while the physical conditions have been distraught in many ways, especially as respecting the conditions that have to do with the eliminations and with those as affect the body in its equilibrium between the systems of the sympathetic system and the action of lymph in the body - thus we find some of the glands are involved in the condition - that as has been accorded the body is meeting the needs and the conditions are somewhat improved, yet - unless these are met in a way and manner that will bring about better coordination - there may be expected trouble farther along, when glands in portions of the system become disturbed, especially those that are the companions of the thyroid and the upper portion of neck.

4. We would, then, add to that being given and accorded, the massage into these portions along the neck, thyroid region, back of neck, base of brain, of cocoa butter, and in the third and sixth treatments add about half a teaspoonful cocoa quinine. This, as we see - being absorbed by the system, with the eliminations kept up by those hot properties taken internally, or that create the heat from within - will give better reaction to these and will bring nearer the normal condition for the body.

5. We would do that. Let at least twelve treatments of the cocoa butter be given, and each third one that one of the quinine.

6. Well, too, that the spine be massaged well along the lumbar and sacral region when these are massaged in the neck, thyroid, base of brain and the cervical region. Not necessary that the butter or quinine be used there; that is, in the sacral and lumbar, but well that oil be used there - either that of pure olive oil or that of camphorated oil, see?

R1. 12/15/27 EC’s ltr. to mother: ”…Apparently the source of the conditions is other than the appendix. I feel very sure that you will see that the suggestions given are carried out to the letter, and I believe you will see results as you so often seen them…”

R2. 12/29/27 Mother’s ltr. to EC: ”…When Lee Jones is worried about anyone it is time for you to sit up and take notice. He wants another blood count, a stool, a urine specimen and and for me to take her to Dr. Kirk about her nose and eyes. Her eyes are crusted every morning. She seems better though anemic… Smell the cocoa butter and camphor oil - can’t get the scent of it off my hands. Treat [711] at night, so she sleeps on through… Marcus Skinner is putting Selma on the map by some of the miraculous recoveries and operations he has performed. Lee Jones says he is a wizard. Marcus won’t cut until he has studied the case thoroughly.”

R3. 3/3/30 Mother’s friend, Mrs. [310], wrote: “[711] has had whooping cough for about five weeks.”

R4. 10/27/34 Mother obtained the next Ck. Physical for her - see 711-3.

R5. 4/23/34, 5/21/34 Mother wrote about [711] suffering with bad case of impetigo: “Comes like a boil but the dr. says it is entirely a skin disease. You get the pus out 2-3 times a day and the next a.m. the sore is filled up again. [711] says the sores that have pus in them ache but the ones with water itch. The M.D. gave me mercurochrome and acetone to paint the sores with and put on an ichthyol ointment. As long as the sores are tied up with the ointment they heal very much quicker.”

R6. 5/28/34 EC’s letter: ”…The Mercurochrome and Acetone will, of course, prevent the spreading of the disorder on [711]. The Mono-Ichthyolate will be more effective than Ichthyolalone. The Mono-Ichthyolate is put up by a drug Co. in Dayton, Ohio…any Ichthyolate ointment is a little bit expensive, but it is certainly very effective. However, I am sure if she takes the Atomidine internally, it will get rid of the cause, while those things that are applied externally are only palliatives. This…you know.

“The better way to give Atomidine is to commence with small doses, say 3 drops twice a day in a glass of water and every second day in a glass of water increase this dose one drop until you are giving 5 to 8 drops twice a day. Then leave it off for two days, then begin with the small quantity again, very much in the same way and manner as you give arsenic, for Atomidine as you know is one of the elements or the iodine in Atomidine, is one of the necessary elements in the system. Few people that live inland have sufficient iodine and when it is given in the small doses the system can assimilate it, for Atomidine is not a poison as iodine is in a tincture form…”

R7. 7/1/34 Mother’s ltr. to EC: ”…[711] has the pink eye and croup…[she] has been sick a week…”

R8. 7/14/34 Mother’s ltr. to EC: ”…I expect a reading would be very beneficial for [711]. She is taking Ovaltine at present and it has done her some good but she is, - oh for a good word to describe her, - I don’t know what. I hate to ask you for I am such a dead head already…”

R9. 8/29/34 Mother’s ltr. to EC: ”…[711] is doing lots better. [259] feeds her malted milk twice a day…she likes ovaltine too…”

R10. 10/16/34 Mother’s ltr. to EC: “Any time you said you would help me - now I am asking you. [711] is in the bed this morning with a sick headache. She is 16 lbs. underweight. Everything seems wrong with her. It may be other trouble working on her, she will be twelve next month.

“I would like for you to give her a reading, also [305]. Cannot think of any questions that would concern [711], for a reading covers the body, but why is [305]‘s speech so delayed. Are his tonsils all right, has he adenoids, and what will cure these awful mean places to get rid of - Impetigo or what not. Is [711]‘s appendix giving her any trouble, - she sometimes complains of her right side hurting so but never of the stomach ache that goes with it…”

R11. 10/24/34 EC’s collect wire to mother: “Have children home for appointment Saturday afternoon…”

B3. 12/1/27 Mother’s ltr. to EC: “As you know by now I wired you (1/28/27)…about [711]. If she had been nauseated am afraid they would have operated for appendicitis. Lee was here three times and took two blood tests and phoned me frequently. As I wrote you when in trouble I always know who to call on. Well the next morning I received a wire from Muddie saying you were in New York…so as the urine test showed 3% acidity started in with glucose and soda on crushed ice every 30 minutes, second test showed less, and the third was alright. Now, she has to gain back what she lost. Poor little child spends every birthday in bed. Hope she does not run in seven year cycles… She was to “party” this time - so just as soon as she is strong enough - will let her have it. Give the reading when you have time…”

I’m afraid the poetic license of you know who bears little resemblance to mother’s letter.
