Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:15 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ky.
-
HLC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: We do not find the body here, but rather at the office - 9th St. and Virginia St., or 11th St. and Virginia St., - the office.
-
As we find, conditions have changed materially with this body since last we had same here.
-
There are still those effects when the body does not adhere to the diets that have been indicated for the body, that allow the production of superacidity in the system; aggravating the tubercle which has been a portion of the disturbing conditions with the body.
-
While these effects apparent in the present are partially from this superacidity in the system; there are also the nervous disturbances and the general conditions that are causing the disorder. For, it is the beginning of the periods of menopause for the body; thus the general nervous system is upset.
-
For the general condition, we would suggest that there be at least two or three series of mechanical, - that is, osteopathic, - adjustments administered. However, these in the first series - of at least six to eight to ten treatments - should be administered very gently, and not be of a stimulating nature but rather to act as a general relaxing for the bodily forces. After taking the first series of six to ten adjustments, rest from them for at least two weeks, then have a second series of ten treatments; leave off then for another four to six weeks, and then have the third series. These, with the other local applications which we will suggest, should bring about the better conditions for this body in general, as well as for the acute influences in the present.
-
The shooting pains in both lower sides are the attempts of the nervous systems to adjust themselves through the activity of the ovarian forces of the body. Hence the needs for the osteopathic adjustments through the lumbar, sacral and especially in the 9th and 8th dorsal centers.
-
We would use again the inhalations of the Brandy Fumes in the keg, to purify the circulation through the lungs.
-
At least two or three times each week we would massage into the body an equal combination of Mutton Tallow (melted), Spirits of Turpentine and Spirts of Camphor; over the lower portion of the right lung, the liver AND the abdomen. Then, after massaging what the body will absorb, soak a flannel in the liquid or compound and apply, with heat over same.
-
We would adhere rather rigidly to the diet. This is to be free from any hog meat at any time, save possibly a little crisp bacon of a morning, occasionally. No fried foods of any kind.
-
At least twice a week have an ounce of carrot juice (the juice extracted from raw carrots, by use of a Juicer); and plenty of fresh, well cooked vegetables.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is the soreness in the right side in any way connected with stomach and pelvic organs? (A) Reflex only. As indicated, these various effects are rather from the superacidity and the tendencies for the weaknesses to show activity in the system.
-
(Q) Is smoking injurious to me? (A) In moderation not injurious, but so long as there is the great irritation in the lungs, this should rather be very, very seldom, than often.
Do as we have indicated, for the better conditions of this body.
- We are through with this Reading.
[3rd ques. ans. without being asked: What are these shooting pains in both lower sides? [See 715-9, Par. 7.]]

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 8/27/1940 Tuesday, ltr. from [715]:
Dear Cousin Edgar:
“I received the reading Saturday morning and want you to know that I shall try to carry it out in every detail. Went to see Dr. Beard last night and had my first treatment from her this afternoon after work. Last night used the applications of the Camphor, Turpentine and Mutton suet. Have gotten the apple brandy - but cannot use my old keg - so am having to order a new one. Also a vegetable juicer for the carrots. The worst obstacle is food. I don’t care much about food - and even when I do get hungry - don’t feel like fixing it.
Dr. Beard thinks she can do a great deal for this extreme nervousness and I know that she can - for YOU suggested it.”
R2. 8/28/40 HLC’s ltr.: “I’d appreciate very much your letting me know immediately exactly where you were during the period the reading was given.”
R3. 9/4/40 “I was at the office - corner 11th and Virginia Streets, or 1010 So. Virginia Street.”
R4. 11/12/40 Ltr. from [715]:
Dear Cousin Edgar:
“It isn’t because I haven’t thought of you that I haven’t written - just haven’t gotten around to it. Think I am feeling much better - and hope you are too.
Have finished taking the first two series of treatments from Dr. Beard - took 10 in each set - the last was on Oct 28 - and you stated in your reading to wait 4 to 6 weeks between the 2nd & 3rd series. I am wondering if I continue to feel better - if it will be absolutely necessary for me to take the last ten - and how long should I wait - 4 or 6 weeks. Still cough a good bit - but am sticking with the keg
- and the local application with the heat pad.
Has turned real cold - like winter in earnest - but I believe the cold air makes me feel better.”
R5. 12/4/40 EC’s letter:
Dear [715];-
“Have been out of town is why you haven’t heard from me before. Went to N.Y. on the 10th and just came back Sunday night. Had very nice trip and am feeling fairly well. A bit tired by such trips usually take a bit out of me.
Am glad you are feeling better. Now while you have this trouble on the run don’t quit off too soon - would take the last series - whether you wait 4 or 6 weeks do take them, and keep up the other things too. Just because you are better don’t stop - that is when you need most to keep feeling good.
Found lots of cold weather in N.Y. Left there with snow and ice on the ground and there had been for several days before.
Have a letter here now from [1960]. Yes, she has lived a life of sacrifice, and at times she feels she isn’t appreciated, but am sure all is well if we just don’t condemn some one else for our troubles, but so many of us are like poor Adam - ‘some one else caused us to do thus and so.’
Let me hear from you when ever you feel like it - am always glad to hear.
With love - and every good wish,” Cousin Edgar
R6. 3/28/42 “I am getting along very well.”
R7. 8/19/42 “I hear from [1089] most every week and [1352] comes over to see me at least once a week. She and [1089] are so much alike, and I love them so much - quite a bit of pleasure to me. Am not feeling very fit, but suppose that’s to be expected. I do think of you often, though I do not show it.”
R8. 10/31/43 “Have enjoyed ‘your life’ so much. At present it is loaned out, and am anxiously awaiting its return. I prize it very much. Have thought so much about your message written therein, ‘Why worry when you can pray?’ Am so much happier when I pray faithfully…
Have been thru quite an ordeal this past summer. Had all of my teeth extracted the latter part of May, and have just gotten new dentures the 13th of Oct. - had quite a lot of trouble with the gums. Now I am having such severe pains and soreness in my left elbow and arm that I am coming to you for help. About 15 yrs. ago had something similar to it in my right one, when I had that serious illness after [4759] passed on.”
