This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the David E. Kahn home, 44 West 77th St., Apt. 14-W, New York City, this 1st day of December, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self Mr. [756], new Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by his brother - through Cayce lecture at McAlpin Hotel on November 18, 1934.
[Edgar Cayce; Hugh Lynn Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. [756] and friend, David E. Kahn, Elsie Jeffery, A. G. Moorhead (M.D.), and Charles Athern.]
Time of Reading 4:20 to 4:45 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [756], present in this room.
-
Now, as we find, there are detrimental conditions - and those that prevent a normal activity of the body. These have to do with the structural forces or portions of the body. And there are the effects of these upon the varied organs of the system.
-
These may be aided the greater by the changing of the attitudes in the mental expressions and in those conditions that surround the body.
-
Then, these are the conditions as we find them with this body of [756], present in this room:
-
The BLOOD SUPPLY indicates the deficiency and the inability of the assimilated forces to create sufficient of those elements to at all times meet the needs of the destructive forces from the infectious activity upon the cerebrospinal structural forces. Hence in the centers from the 7th and 8th dorsal to even the cervical area we find the infectious reactions. And these in the blood stream, with the effect that is necessary for the construction of the cellular forces for the blood supply from the areas in the ribs - as well as from the red portions in the bone structure itself, make for those deficiencies that WEAKEN the whole of the vital forces or vitality of the body itself. And this affects, of course, the auditory forces, the sympathetic system, through the sympathetic reactions from those centers or ganglia along those portions of the spine; but the reactions are of the normal nature.
-
In the NERVOUS SYSTEM we find the necessary or parallel reaction from the variations between the sympathetic and the cerebrospinal system. Hence the greater effect that may be had upon the structural forces of the body through the effect of the mental and spiritual attitude of the body, in meeting in the physical forces those things necessary for the mental and soul body to gain the proper attitudes in its meeting that within itself necessary for the greater soul development; forgetting the bodily forces.
-
But these (the bodily forces), as we find, may be aided materially. While there may not be the whole corrective measures carried forward, they may be aided materially; for there are the vital energies being carried on in the assimilating forces of the organs themselves, as through the digestive supply - that is not as yet attacked by the conditions in the system.
-
So, there should be added to this organism and system that which will enable the blood stream and the vital energies and forces in the body itself to produce or cause those constructive influences in the body to combat the destructive forces. Not as curatives but as palliatives and eliminants, there may be caused those reactions to be met in such a way and manner as to bring about a much better physical condition for this body of [756], we are speaking of.
-
We would, then, add to the system the vibrations that may be created in a relative low formation of electrical forces which are as the elements of Life itself in a physical organism; carrying through same those elements that mete the stamina necessary in the activities of the gland secretions to produce that aid to the structural forces such as to combat and meet the needs. Thus we may prevent greater inroads upon the structural forces of the cerebrospinal system itself. For while in some ganglia there have been the inroads, there are not sufficient inroads as yet to destroy either the spinal cord itself or to cause any pressures other than as passing. Neither are there those inroads that will destroy any of the ganglia if the conditions are halted, and if there will be added to the body that which will not only sustain but rejuvenate - to the influences in the system - that which will aid in bringing that in the body-physical which, combined with the body-mental and spiritual in its attitude to those conditions within and about itself, will be constructive. Condemn neither this, that or the other influence within or about self; for those influences that are of the constructive or creative nature must be maintained in self.
-
In such a Wet Cell Battery appliance we would carry, then, the VIBRATIONS from the Chloride of Gold (in the proportion of one grain to one ounce of distilled water); not taken internally, but the vibrations from the solution carried into the body through the proper attachments (and there should be at least seven to eight ounces of the solution in the container through which the vibrations pass from the static or electrical forces). The attachments would be made in this manner: The smaller copper anode or plate would be the positive, or attached first - to the 9th dorsal plexus, or that just below where the activities are upon the spine itself, along the cerebrospinal system. The larger nickel plate would be the negative, or that one passing through the Gold solution, attached last - OVER the lacteal duct and umbilici area, in the right portion of the body, where assimilation is carried on from the active forces in the system.
-
Such application would be made each day for twenty to thirty minutes, not more than thirty minutes - at least until it has been applied for twenty to thirty days; then it may be applied for thirty to forty minutes.
-
Also at first we would begin taking the Animated Ash; one-eighth grain taken each evening before retiring - the powder emptied on tongue and washed down with water. And immediately following the taking of the Ash we would give the body not a hard but a gentle massage over portions of the body itself upon which the Ash becomes active to release oxygen. That is, give the MASSAGE over the frontal portion of the chest to the very portions of the upper part of the stomach or the cardiac activities of same.
-
Be MINDFUL that the mental attitudes of self towards those things about self must be maintained in a HELPFUL, HOPEFUL manner. Then the activities may be such that there may be the halting of the destructive influences, and the maintaining of helpful influences in the body.
-
In the diet, keep to those things that are rather of the alkaline reaction; for these will prevent any disorders arising within the assimilating system.
-
Do these, and - as we find - we will bring for this body the greater influences for help and aid.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Will the treatments relieve the hearing? (A) Not in the immediate future. These will aid, yes - as conditions progress, and as there is the allaying of those conditions that affect the hearing from the ganglia and centers along the cerebrospinal system.
-
(Q) Would a plastic surgical operation help my nose? (A) Plastic surgical operation might be beneficial, but only temporarily. We must relieve the conditions first that cause the impairments of the circulation to the head, which affects all the mucous membranes of the face and head - where the sympathetic disorders to the sensory system are indicated. An operation may be helpful, but changes will come about - if these vibrations and treatments are added as we have indicated for the body; so it would come later - not for at least thirty to sixty days. Then we would give those changes necessary, whether an operation or otherwise.
-
(Q) Is there any remedy suggested other than that given (A) (Interrupting) The treatments outlined we would do in the present; for these will add those influences in the body that will stay the destructive forces and assist in creating a proper balance for the more effectual activities. Keep the mental and SPIRITUAL balance for the whole activity.
-
(Q) What should be done for the cough? (A) You will be doing something for the cough if you will add these properties to the system as indicated!
-
(Q) Has the New York climate anything to do with the present condition? (A) The natural change in the atmospheric pressures would be more helpful, but these are not the CAUSES of the conditions (the atmospheric pressures); they only affect the condition that exists! The treatments we have outlined are for this particular pressure in which the body is at present; and it would not be harmful if these treatments are followed as given. However, a warmer or drier climate would be helpful.
-
(Q) Is there any chance of my back ever being partially straightened? (A) If we are able through these suggested treatments to maintain the effective activities in the blood supply to halt and stop those inroads, as indicated, then it may be helped.
-
(Q) Would you outline a more specific diet for the body? (A) The diet may be maintained best by following closer the alkaline-reacting list. The foods may be well-balanced between those elements necessary for maintaining strength and a balance in the body.
Do that.
- We are through for the present.

Following the instructions outlined in a reading by Mr. Edgar Cayce I wish to send you a brief report of the reactions obtained during the 21 days of treatment by electrical vibrations. Had battery made and mixed chemicals as instructed, also applied the metal plates to my body as near as possible to place suggested.
Dec. 4, 1934 Started taking Animated Ash capsules and giving light massage on chest and abdomen.
Dec. 5, 1934 Took Animated Ash Capsule and massage before retiring.
Dec. 6, 1934 On arising in morning had spell of coughing and saw traces of blood in sputum; cannot account for blood other than use of Animated Ash; took Ash and massage before retiring.
Dec. 7, 1934 Still showing traces of blood in sputum; pain which I have had for some time in the left side of chest over nipple seems to have moved into different area, more to the centre of chest; believe the Animated Ash is helping. Took Ash and massage on chest before retiring.
Dec. 8, 1934 Had a fairly good night’s rest; coughed on arising; also had coughing spells during the day; no signs of blood in sputum today; believe the Animated Ash is helping break up the congestion in chest. Took Ash and massage before retiring.
Dec. 9, 1934 Arose early feeling pretty good; had usual coughing spells; slept well during night; no trace of blood in sputum. Went to see Mr. Reilly about the battery; also ordered the
Copper Sulphate…1 pound Zinc Metal…10.6 grams Sulphuric Acid…1 oz. Powdered Willow Charcoal…1/2 pound Chloride of Gold…8 grains Distilled Water…8 ounces

Dec. 14, 1934 Had good night’s rest; got up fairly early; ate good breakfast; coughed little raising less phlegm; had fairly good day; took battery treatment as directed by Mr. Cayce; hope I got plates on right places - copper on back and nickle on lower right of chest; did not feel any electrical shock; took vibration for about 30 min.; took Ash and massaged chest; felt this treatment promoted sound sleep.
Dec. 15, 1934 Had good night’s rest; awoke feeling O.K.; cough still with me; not so hard, less phlegm coming up; took battery treatment from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m.; felt very sleepy after it so slept for two hours; took Ash before bed.
Dec. 16, 1934 Awoke early after good night’s rest; feeling O.K.; still coughing; passing much phlegm again (from lungs) and mucus (from head); had fair day; took usual treatment before retiring.
Dec. 17, 1934 Awoke early this A.M. not feeling so good; left side of chest feel congested; also little pain; much coughing during day bringing up phlegm and mucus; not feeling so good today; took vibration treatment and Ash before retiring. Lead loop which goes into Chloride of Gold solution broke and had to splice it together.
Dec. 18, 1934 Got up not feeling so good this morning; had a restless night; coughed considerable raising much phlegm and mucus; temperature normal; have developed a pain in lower region of spine; don’t recall doing anything that might have brought this condition on; took treatment; Ash before bed.
Dec. 19, 1934 Not much change from condition of yesterday still raising much phlegm and mucus from nose (rubberish in texture); pain in spine moving upward; took treatment; Ash before retiring.

Jan. 6, 1935 Still in bed trying to get the best of this cold; head all blocked up unable to hear what is going on; have to speak loud to hear; stayed in bed most of day; tried to take treatment but tipped over the bottle of Chloride of Gold; took Ash - this is the end of the 30th treatment or so.
Due to loss of Chloride of Gold I could not continue the first 21 days of treatment but do not feel discouraged that a miracle has not taken place in this short space of time to cure me; am willing to continue, to keep trying as I feel that some action has taken place inside me and no doubt with continued treatments some improvement will come out of it. One encouraging thing many people have remarked about difference in the color of my skin; also feel that this course of treatments has helped my chest as the pains which I have had for a long time have left me for the present.
As I am no trying to get rid of this cold I have I will be unable to get out for a few days to get chemicals needed to make new charge for battery so will miss treatments for a few days.
I am fairly handy with things and can manage, and I have been wondering how old people or those not handy get along with the equipment as is. Seems wires should be longer to permit of necessary motion while reclining and different type of lead loop made that will stand handling without breaking (present type too fragile); cleaning of wire, etc. must be difficult for some people; I have fastened an empty tomato juice can to a board and placed in Chloride of Gold bottle in that to prevent possibility of upset. I spoke to Mr. Reilly about these suggestions.
R2. 1/18/35 [756]‘s report:
“This memo [Par. R1, above] is made from a little diary I kept merely to give you a fairly accurate report. At the beginning I felt no vibration while taking the treatments, but now get a sort of tingling down into my toes.
“I mentioned to Mr. Reilly the advisability of me taking a few massages from him, but he felt unless you actually recommended it, he did not wish to interfere. Perhaps later on you may think that advisable.
“I wonder whether this is the reaction you expected, and if it is okay for me to continue the treatment another thirty days. I shall be glad to receive a line from you…”
R3. 1/23/35 EC’s letter:
“I am in receipt of your report of January 18, from December 4th to January 6th. This is certainly very nice of you to make such a complete report, yet I feel very confident from something of an analysis of the report that you have been really on the improve. That conditions have arisen from time to time that have been rather aggravating to the real cause, is quite evident. Most of this, apparently, has arisen from cold and congestion, which naturally tends to make that, that may be said to have been disturbed by the application of the properties taken internally and from the applications of the vibrations for the body, more active at times. This, of course, would indicate that it is necessary, then, for you to take precaution, especially, during the first two or three months’ treatment, with yourself in relation to taking cold and keeping the general eliminations open.
“I am in hopes that you have gotten another lead wire that passes through the solution for, apparently, from the report you will notice there has not been as effective a reaction from the battery since this was first broken, and again you find it not so active even when you had repaired it. Of course, I may be in error in this or drawing on my imagination, but this is what I gather from the report.
“I am very sure, too that it would be most advisable for you to have a few treatments once in a while as you suggested, from Dr. Reilly; that is, a general massage treatment.
“Some time within the next two or three weeks I hope that you will make up a list of questions as respecting conditions that disturb you and let us make a check reading and see if the information has further suggestions or any changes at this time.
“I am sure you are quite right in continuing with the treatments in toto, for I know you realize, as you say, you can’t expect a condition that has existed for some time to be eradicated and the body rebuilded in just a few weeks. While it may make a great deal of change and you may feel a great deal better, to eradicate the disturbance and to rebuild the whole condition will simply require something we call time, for spirituality, mental ability or physical growth, in their manifested forms, are just a constant growth…”
R4. 3/6/40 Brother’s reply to HLC’s Questionnaire:
“Your letter of January 27th addressed to my brother, [756], has been received.
“Unfortunately my brother died suddenly two years ago of lobar pneumonia. I can, however, tell you for him that he held your father and his extraordinary work, in highest esteem. The diagnosis he made was surprisingly accurate and, as you know, my brother followed carefully the suggestions given, with the result that there was a marked improvement in his condition. So much so, in fact, that we finally came to forget he had ever been as ill as he was. His interest and appreciation was shown by the detailed reports he sent to you, and which he would have continued to send had he not been shy about bothering you. I cannot but feel that an error of judgment on my part in handling my personal affairs, which resulted in my unemployment, brought about his sudden demise. I had supported him from childhood, as well as my mother, and with reemployment conditions as they are, and he long having felt he was a burden on me, I feel he simply gave up the ghost in order to lighten my financial load. He had been through too many crises before and recovered against all medical expectation to pass off in thirty-six hours.
“It is strange, but the very day I received your letter, I had tried to telephone Mr. Kahn to learn if your father was likely to be in New York, as mother’s health has been giving me some concern. However, I couldn’t get him as he was at some furniture convention during those days, and upon my return home I found your letter.
“Would it be possible to get a reading concerning my mother’s health condition? If so, what is the fee now? You may recall that my brother’s consultation took place at Mr. Kahn’s home, but I understand that the patient’s presence is not necessary. I could not afford to pay more than $10 because I am still only temporarily employed.
“I trust that your father’s health continues good and that his great work has grown and been appreciated…”
R5. 6/9/42 Brother requested EC data for friend, saying: “I told her of your correct diagnosis [GD’s note: We never did know what the doctors called his condition.] of the health condition of both my brother, [756], and my mother, [2149].”
