This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of October, 1932, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [757], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Dr. W. H. Ketchum.

1. EC: Yes, we have the body and those conditions that disturb the body physically, Mrs. [757].

2. Now, as we find, this condition has been in part only diagnosed properly; for there are indications of varied conditions, or complications that in some respects give indications of a form of disorder in the epidermis that would indicate a deeper-seated condition, and there are some conditions that would signify these might be of the nature that were creative, or those that would make for a setting up of separations in the system; not just chronic, but rather of the nature that might be called malignant.

3. As we find, these have not reached such conditions, however; they are more of the nature (in the complications) of a blood condition, and a condition in the skin or epidermis itself, that is produced from the defects and defunct reaction in glands of the body; so that these glands in their coordination, or lack (as it is) of coordination, have allowed and do allow accumulations in the system, or affect organs in such ways and manners through the type of accumulations of drosses in the system from non-functioning glands, as to bring about this very disturbance that is affecting this body, Mrs. [757]

4. This condition then arises in the blood stream itself, as we find, yet this does not show at all times the effect of these germs as would be indicated at other periods of tests, and they do not at all times affect the skin, or this rash, or this irritation that appears on face at times, on other portions of the body, on the neck, in those places where the emunctories and lymph come closest to the circulation, or to the exterior portion of the circulation, as under the arms, in the groin, and the like; but these ARE evidences that unless something materially is done concerning this, these will eventually become such natures that they will sap the strength, the vitality of the body, and should they become effective to the activities of the nerve systems, in the relations to the coordinations between the sympathetic and cerebro-spinal, they will become unbalancing to the mental forces and abilities of the body, as well as to the functioning organisms in the lymph and emunctory circulation.

5. Then, the glands that are affected are the thyroids, the adrenals, the glands in the central nervous system that make for the ability in the lacteals in their functioning, and especially in the lyden [Leydigian] and their effect upon the pineals.

6. In meeting the conditions, in the forces that are affected in the body then, as we find it will be necessary that there be the beginning to add those elements for the system that will become effective in aiding in the eliminating, and in that which is assimilated, for the affecting of the system, that will aid IN eliminating; hence it must be elements that will be added to the forces of the system itself, as well as conditions that will affect the elements of the body as and when they are taken into the system.

7. So, we have two classes or characters of reactions in the system, with the application of elements and forces that may be effective in ridding these conditions from the body.

8. We would begin, then, as this:

9. As seen, there is an abundance of potash present, that is shown in the numbers of the red blood cells that are inactive; yet the CELLS are present. There is a variation in the numbers in the lymph or the white blood circulation, and yet it may not be called even a form of that called destruction of bacilli, or blood cell by another, or anemia; yet it IS a form of anemia. It is NOT in the nature of tubercular in its cell action, yet does have some of the forms in the system that carry in the blood stream that which would appear to take hold and build within itself; for it DOES this very thing at times, destroying tissue, but this is for the LACK of elements to produce that IN the blood stream that cleanses, or the warriors that will meet, combat, overcome, or supply the necessary forces for coagulation in the separation by assimilation and elimination.

10. Then, we would add that in the form of Atomidine (iodine, non-poisonous) in the system, taken in doses of eight to ten drops in a glass of water once each day. This will, in the second or third day, produce some dizziness to the body, and the inability to navigate or to use those activities without appearing to be unbalanced, but only reduce the quantity and as soon as possible - after the second or third day - begin again, until we receive the proper balance in the system, see?

11. We would also, at least twice each week, take internally those properties found in the Carbon Ash [Animated Ash]. This is to release more oxygen, that will be effective upon the circulation as related to the distribution through the activity of the pulmonary circulation; that is, the heart’s activity, the lung’s activity, so that we will immediately see a variation in the character of the breath that may be thrown off with the use of this.

12. On the days the Ash is taken, thirty to forty minutes after the dose is taken there would be applied the ultra-violet ray. This should be applied to the solar plexus area in the cerebro-spinal system, or between the brachial plexus and lumbar plexus, so that the greater centralization of the ray is upon the solar plexus area; for it is in distance half way between.

13. The elements in the Atomidine (or iodine to the system) will be active upon the glands and the circulation.

14. During the periods that these treatments are followed, be mindful that the diet does not carry any of the greases that are of flesh. Any of the oils that are of fruit or vegetable compounds are well for the body; hence no butters, no fats or lards, or anything used other than those that originate from vegetables or fruits (either in the cooking or in the eating). Meat JUICES may be taken, but not the fats; so the juices should be made only from the lean portions. Vege- tables, nuts and fruits should be the principal portion of the diet.

15. When the ultra-violet is given, this should be at least eighteen to thirty-eight inches from the body, dependent upon the power of the machine used, and it should not be given for a longer period (after it is well heated and in its full force) than three to five minutes.

16. At least once a week (but not on the same days the ultra-violet is given) we would apply the Infra-Red ray, but when used screen the ray with the quarter inch crystal of the GREEN glass, so that the rays that penetrate to the structural portions (from which the bone structure produce cells that act in the capacity of the corpuscles themselves) are penetrated with the vibration from the GREEN rather than the red. This should be given for twenty to thirty minutes, at least forty inches from the body.

17. Do that. Ready for questions.

18. (Q) What pathologic conditions exist in this case? (A) These have been outlined or explained, as to those conditions where there is the effect that comes from a complication of disturbances in the glands, rather than the effects that are created from the disturbance to the blood supply; not organic, but GLANDS. No organs are affected.

If we will begin with these applications that have been given, then when these have been given for the period where we see the great change must come to the body from these (in twenty-six to thirty-two days), we might give those changes that arise and the necessary things to meet them.

19. (Q) What is the nature of the condition on the lip, and how should it be treated? (A) This is an effect in the skin itself, where the condition has become an abrasion; but this may be met with these same elements that we are giving here.

In the application of the Infra-Red ray, these should be from greater structural centers; the ribs or rib area, see, or the sternum, the breast bone and the back, through the clavicle and the upper portion of the breast bones, collar bone, and the like should receive the greater effect. It will be necessary, of course, that the position of the body be altered when these are given.

Do these that we have outlined, and we will find these will meet with success for the meeting of these conditions with this body, [757].

R1. GD’s note: During above rdg. [757-1] EC dreamed of a big place for work, airplanes bringing patients - Dr. Blackburn in charge of operating room; Mr. Franklin F. Bradley holding classroom, Dr. W. H. Ketchum interpreting readings which Gladys Davis was taking down, Gertrude Cayce was acting as the Conductor; Mildred Davis was carrying a red rooster representing her idea of the work; Hugh Lynn was heading a newspaper aided by Tom Sugrue and Harold Moss [Harold Moss was another college chum of HLC]. Everything and everybody all white; seemed metal but perfectly white.

R2. 10/18/32 Letter from EC of A.R.E. to Dr. Ketchum: ”…The information has been sent to Mrs. [757], who stated that she was your patient.

The readings have been a great factor in the development of one medicine prescribed for her (the Atomidine), and have been wholly responsible for the development of the other (Carbon Ash).

Atomidine is manufactured by Schieffelin & Company, New York. I do not know whether you will be able to obtain this locally or not, but it has been on the market for several years. This is iodine with the poison removed, yet giving the iodine effect in the system, as indicated from the very name of the product itself. The company will be able to furnish you with a great many reports of what it has done in hospitals, as well as in local practice.

The Carbon Ash is manufactured by B. H. Bradley, 5443 Maryland Ave., Chicago, and comes in one-eighth and one-quarter grain capsules. The powdered ash is not to be taken IN the capsule, however, but is to be emptied out of the capsule either in water or dry on tongue and washed down with water. This product has received most favorable comment in every quarter where it has been tried by the profession, and there are several men who are now keeping very close tab on the results they obtain from using it according to the suggestions made in the readings. In every instance where it has been recommended there has been an indication of inflammation within the system, especially in cases of tuberculosis, cancer, and unusual skin diseases, or any inflammation where it has the tendency to become localized, or any condition which causes the lack of sufficient oxygen for the blood.

I will be quite anxious to know what your experience is with these properties, should you feel the case indicates the use of these in this particular instance. The Atomidine is usually recommended where there is a lack of functioning in glands of any kind within the system, whether glands of the organs, or the hidden or ductless glands.

R3. 1/18/33 [757]‘s letter to EC: “I had a reading from you on Oct. 14th last and have been treated by Dr. Ketchum ever since as per your suggestions.

Would like now to have another reading please. If it will facilitate matters, I will say that I will be in my home … Ave. every morning until 9 o’clock Pacific Time. If you can give the reading without any further communication.

Also send me any data you may have on the source of this psychic information and whatever charges there may be for it and the reading and I will send a check for same.

R5. 1/25/33 EC’s ltr. to Mrs. [757]: “In reply to yours of the 18th we are enclosing that obtained through a reading this morning. [757-2] It would appear that, while there have been times when you have felt much better, the condition has not been wholly eliminated nor the causes removed; consequently, recurrent conditions are at times very discouraging.

There is still the insisting that, if the treatments suggested are followed, with nothing added to nor taken from

• but done AS suggested, you will get the proper results.

I’ll be very anxious to hear from you respecting just how you are getting along.

As to contributions toward the work we are doing, in the case of Active Members this is left entirely up to the individual.

The data enclosed has been prepared by the office, and I hope it will be helpful in your understanding the source of the information, and as to how well it may be relied upon. My interpretation would be very much like this:

Life in its essence is a manifestation of divine intelligence, or force, we most often call God. When there is incoordination between the mental and the physical, or the spiritual body (which are One, represented in the Trinity - the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, in the spiritual world), we have dis-ease. This may grow into real disease in our physical bodies. Medical science, psychology or psychiatrists have classified the effects produced by such, and have called them by different names - because of the effects in various portions of the body.

Any healing, then, that may possibly come to a body must be a re-coordination of the physical being to that triune of force which manifests in our bodies.

So, all healing must come from God, through this essence or manifestation of God, or Life, in the physical body. Whether the intelligence that brings such healing consciousness is from a drug, a mechanical appliance, an operation, the very activities or the foods we eat, or what not, it is in essence from one and the same source.

The readings, then, are merely a channel to assist individuals in obtaining information that will make known to them that which produces coordination for each individual body. To be sure, that is saying the information must come - then - from a universal source, if it is to be trustworthy. If it does not come from the cosmic, universal or God source, it is just as apt to be detrimental as it is to be constructive. Through the ability of laying aside, wholly, the physical consciousness, one becomes more attuned to the universal or God consciousness.

So, I believe this Work is a manifestation of the universal force, or source. Of course, the information may be often wavered by the attitude of the individual concerning the source, or in attempting to aid in obtaining such information. Or, as one of my friends [Mr. [4959]] said a few years ago (a man who is nationally known as a Christian worker): “As for myself, I believe in Mr. Cayce and his psychic power, for seeing is believing. I know not whence comes his power, but I do know that he is using it for good. Hence it must come from good - the All Good - which is God. May he never lose his power.” [Mr. [4959]]

This may or may not be a real explanation. It may sound, to some, as if I were claiming special connection or association with God; but that is far from true. For it ever follows that His laws must be first and foremost. If an explanation does not include His laws, then we may be very sure that we ARE in error. But, is it presumptuous to say the above is true, when we consider those first laws? “The Lord thy God is ONE! He is the same yesterday, today and forever!… If ye will be my people, I will be your God!… I will not leave you comfortless, but will come to you - and abide with you…for, if ye love me ye will keep my commandments.”

I certainly hope, Mrs. [757], that you will be able to get all that you have expected, or may expect, through our attempts and desire to be of service. I appreciate your interest, and certainly trust that you will let us hear from you from time to time.

Will you please remember us very kindly to Dr. Ketchum?…”

R6. 2/2/33 “Enclosed find check for $10 for rdg. of 1/25th. Thank you for same, hoping the next course of treatments will be more successful. I will be glad to let you know how I am from time to time.”

R7. 3/21/33 Mrs. [757]‘s ltr. to EC: “In reply to your letter of Jan. 25th inclosing second reading [757-2]. I wish to state that I have taken the treatments from Dr. Ketchum and have not received any benefit whatsoever. It seems to be difficult to get any Dr. to follow out your instructions to the letter. The violet ray treatments I have received have been of longer duration than the instructions called for. I do not know if this made any difference or not. The Dr. said the shorter period was not enough with his machine. We were not able to find a piece of green glass 1/4 in. thick, but used a piece slightly less than 1/4 in. of dark green we at first placed small pieces close to the Infra-Red element, but the heat broke them all. We then resorted to holding a piece about a foot square close to the body about forty in. from the element. I do not know if this was the correct way or not. Otherwise I have followed out the instructions as to diet, etc. The first three months Dr. Ketchum deviated from the instructions according to his own opinions with no results and a lot of expense to me, but after the second reading observed them more closely except for the longer violet ray and I have not received any benefit after the last 32 days either. Naturally I am very much discouraged and have discontinued all treatments with Dr. Ketchum and am not going to take any more. But I still hope that in some way I might find a way to be benefited from your readings. I thank you kindly for your readings. I am much interested and if you have any suggestions to offer me that you think might help I would be most happy to have them especially as to the green glass. Was this the correct way to take the treatment.

R8. 3/30/33 EC’s ltr. to Mrs. [757]: “I have received yours of the 21st, and am sorry indeed to note what you have to say about the trouble in getting your treatments. Since having gone over both of these readings, I am wondering if you have ever gotten your treatments at all according to the information given. Was the violet ray machine you used just a hand machine, or was it a large machine - as large as the Infra-Red or larger? It seems that you have been using the plain violet ray when you should have had the ultra-violet. Did you ever have the Atomidine, also the Ash to take internally? I do believe, Mrs. [757], that a check reading at the present time would be advisable, if you still desire to follow out the treatments. We will try to ask the questions (if this is in line with your wishes) as to just where and how you may be able to get the treatments followed as outlined. We would be very glad for you to make out a list of questions, asking about specific conditions that disturb you - as far as you know at the present time. Then, let’s see what we can get.

Hoping this is in line with that you desire, and that we may be of help, I am, with all good wishes…”

R9. 5/6/33 Mrs. [757]‘s ltr. to EC: “I received your letter of Mar. 30th and carefully noted what you said about the treatments I received. About the machine Dr. Ketchum used, it was not of the hand variety but a large apparatus.

I do not however know if it was the Ultra Violet Ray or not. But I feel quite sure that it was. And I took the atomidine every day since last Nov. Also 40 capsules of the carbon ash, and strictly observed the diet.

Now since receiving your letter of Mar. 30th I have rented from the agent in San Francisco a Burdick Ultra Violet Ray machine. I have taken the treatments in my own home with this machine. I took the atomidine and the carbon ash and observed the diet strictly according to your original instructions. In using this machine the body takes on a ghastly putty, ashey grey appearance, the lips and blood vessels a deep violet. Where as under Dr. Ketchum’s machine the flesh looked perfectly normal.

This machine that I have used was very powerful. I could not take over 3 min. for the first few treatments. Because it left quite a burn. I then worked up gradually to 5 min. I have taken these treatments for the 32 day period, taking the ash 30 min. before treatment on Fridays & Mondays. But I have never at anytime noticed any change in the character of the breath. I also have in my home a National Health Appliance Long Wave Infra Red Ray lamp. It broke several pieces of heavy green glass, holding the glass 40 in. from the element. I have been using this lamp once a week on Wednesdays with the 1/4 in. green glass for 30 min., 40 inches from the body in the region of the ribs, collar bone & sternum as directed. And although I don’t notice any change in the breath the Ultra Violet Ray treatments seem to cause a congested feeling in the lungs and the whole chest. I don’t know if this is beneficial or not.

Now Mr. Cayce I believe I have followed out your instructions to the letter in this last 32 day treatment. But I have not had any results whatsoever that I can feel.

I would like to have another reading to ascertain why. As I don’t see how the instructions could possibly be carried out more accurately than I have carried them out in this last 32 day period. Now to make you acquainted with my condition. I have suffered for the past 20 years with violent headaches in the back of the head at the base of the brain and neck, and behind and over the eyes.

I have these pains, and a feeling of nausea most of the time with violent spells, with vomiting, about every 8 to 10 days lasting 2 to 3 days. Also pain in the region of the right kidney and the right side generally both front and back. I have no strength, and the least exertion exhausts me and makes me quite ill.

I have had for several years, sores breaking out inside the cheek and on the tongue. Also suffer from pains across the back in region of the hips and down the limbs. And many other pains too numerous to mention.

I spend the greater portion of the time lying down with a hot water bottle trying to relieve pain. I have been treated by many physicians none of whom have been able to diagnose the case or give me the slightest relief.

Now Mr. Cayce, in this next reading I would like to ask these questions.

1. I have followed the suggestions for treatment explicitly but have had no results - why?
2. Has there been any improvement in the glands on the body at all. If so in what way?
3. Has the green glass used with the Infra Red Ray been the proper glass. If not where can it be obtained.
4. What causes the pains in the head and neck and what can be done to relieve them.
5. What can be done for the sores in the mouth.
6. The Ultra Violet Ray seems to cause a sensation of congestion in the chest. Is this beneficial or not.
7. What can be done for the pain in the back and the limbs. Now Mr. Cayce after reading my letter stating my condition, if there are any questions you think should be asked other than those written down, will you please have your questioner put them and obtain all the information possible. If I have not had the correct treatments I would like to know what part of them were not right or where they can be obtained.

Have the suggestions for treatment been followed exactly as given? For how long? “Yes. For two years. Then relaxed somewhat. But am now following treatment again.”

To what extent? “I should say about 60 percent. Words cannot express my thanks for the measure of relief obtained through Mr. Cayce’s psychic gift. But thanks mostly for the positive knowledge of the workings of natural laws.”

Comment: “Mine was a case of many years standing, getting very much worse as the years went by. Had all kinds of treatment without result. Until Mr. Cayce’s reading came my way.”
