This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 105th Street & Ocean, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of July, 1931, in accordance with request made by parents - Mrs. [417] and Mrs. [1192].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:40 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. L.I., N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [758] - this we have had before. Many are the changes in the physical forces of the body since last we had same here. Some, or most of these have not been for the betterment; for many of the precautions or warnings as have been given were not wholly adhered to, or the wishes of those complied with. The conditions in the present, as we find, show that little precaution was taken as to WHAT the body ate, and HOW they administered the medicinal properties as were to be given under certain conditions and as directed. This, as we find, has produced a contraction in the gastric forces, especially of the lower duodenum, and hence the rash as has been indicated over portions of the system, and especially accentuated in the lumbar region and about the sex organs show the EFFECT OF these conditions in the system. We will find that with the proper precautions, with the keeping of the body not TOO quiet, but in a NORMAL atmosphere, in those surroundings and conditions such as has been GIVEN should be for the body, and with the commencing or the continuing of the manipulative forces - especially in the lumbar and sacral region, with that stimuli in same as to keep the alimentary canal working in a near normal manner, stimulating those forces within the cerebro-spinal centers as will make for especially that of a full activity (this from the 8th, 9th and 10th dorsal) of the peristaltic movement of the jejunum itself; also keeping those food values that will make for a better coordination in the manner as has been outlined for the body, we will soon find the recuperative forces are active and the body being nearer normal, and the activities of the body-physical and mental will bring about that of a near normal condition.
-
Keep the vibrations of the battery forces for the system, for these quiet and equalize the extremities in their circulation for the body. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should medicine prescribed in last reading be continued, or is it too strong? (A) Given in the manner as has been outlined, that when it was necessary - or at the stated periods as given, give it - we will find that it will be most helpful in the digestive system and in the assimilating system, but be mindful that there is not too MUCH given - but AS was outlined!
-
(Q) Why has body acted strangely since his return from camp? (A) This may be a two or threefold reason, as we find. The change in the surroundings, the natural inclinations for the group or for the herd, or for many other bodies about the body, the change in the physical feelings of the body, and the general activity of the mental forces of the body itself expanding.
-
(Q) Was he ill treated or frightened, or spanked, while at camp? (A) The conditions about the body were not the best, or - that is, they were not in line WITH that as has been given, that the personal attention and care should be given.
-
(Q) Was it best to have taken body away from camp? (A) As has been given, such a camp, such a surrounding is well for the body, provided there is that personal care and attention given, as has been given should be for the body.
-
(Q) Why does abdomen become distended at times? Is it due to poor digestion? (A) Due to poor digestion. Fermentation takes place in the system.
-
(Q) What causes sick stomach attack and convulsions on Sunday the 26th? (A) The natural reaction from the varied condition under which the body had been living, or existing, and the imaginative forces - with a disordered digestive system, produced by over-fermentation in the body.
-
(Q) Why is body always hungry, and should more food be given? (A) Not more than that that will digest properly. The cause of the hunger is the natural conditions, that that as has been given mostly has NOT been satisfying the cravings, or the digestive forces, or the necessities OF the body. Follow more along the lines as has oft been given FOR that that would be the proper diet for this body, [758].
-
(Q) Advise where and how to develop this body mentally and physically? (A) Let’s get it over the present condition and take these conditions as they arise! In the present conditions we would follow out that line as has been determined by those in care or charge of the body, for the present. As the conditions change, or as they develop - as the season progresses, then there may be given the better understanding as to that that would be the best for further development of the body. The improvements exist! Do not be over-hasty. Remember, as has oft been given - the abilities of this entity are such, that will not over-anxiousness, or that over personal anxiety, but that care and attention, loving-kindness, and the development of those upon whom the body develops - may bring to the body, and to them, those blessings, that MANY will call the body blessed! We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 8/10/31 Father [417]‘s letter: “[758] is home with us and very much on the improve. He is getting his battery treatments and medicines daily as the rdgs. have called for, with the exception of the osteopathic treatments as it has been very hard for us to arrange for them at …, L.I. Everything else is being carried out and results have been remarkable in the past week.”
R2. 9/19/31 Mother [1192]‘s letter: “Sorry I didn’t see you when you were up here last but somehow I don’t feel comfortable away from [758], always having a fear that something is wrong. On that account I have been close to home and sometimes feel like a prisoner these days. He has had several upsets, and try as I will I cannot understand what causes it. It seems so strange that all the while he has been at Virginia Beach nothing like that occurred. I know you are saying, ‘Well, why not bring him here again.’ That isn’t so easy now that [758] has become so attached to [417] that I fear it wouldn’t help him any to be separated at this time. He is older now and not so easily moulded.
“I must admit I have not been giving him his medicine regularly, as he was looking and feeling pretty well for a couple of weeks. Then, too, on account of the paralysis [polio] scare up around here I couldn’t take him in for treatments. I did try one doctor in Jamaica [L.I.] but I didn’t like his treatment nor the attitude he took, so I decided to take him in to Dr. Berger just as soon as I think it is safe to take him to N.Y. [Dr. Grace C. Berger, D.O.]
“[417] and I are both heartsick and not knowing what to do or where to go from here is almost maddening to think. I visited several schools and while I have been advised by many who know that a tutor would be best, still I remember the reading said to keep him with a group. There is a private school in Jamaica and I think I may send him there and try it for a few months and then if it doesn’t work out I will have to get a tutor to be with him all the time.
“I feel guilty telling you all my troubles when you have so many of your own, but I feel so close to you that I know you will understand it is our friendship that gives us a certain privilege to pour out our hearts.”
R3. 9/26/31 EC’s reply:
Certainly sorry that [758] has been having these little upsets. We have expressed the medicine to Mr. [417] at his New York address. We thought that would be the best way, and then he could get it out to you much quicker. Certainly hope this will assist in keeping [758] in proper condition, and prevent the setbacks. It should, if it’s taken properly. Of course, don’t over-dose him - but don’t under-dose him either.
Yes, I know by my own experiences, and by the many, many times I have heard [417] speak of his boy, just what it means to have him near him, where he can talk with him and be with him from time to time, and I don’t blame you one bit! It would be very nice, though, if it were possible for him to be in Miss Barclay’s school here. She had SUCH an interest in [758], and never fails to ask about him the first thing when I see her. But I know that’s out of the question at the present time, and I know that you are doing - and will do - the things that seem the very best for all, for I know you have given your whole life to [758], yet I feel very sure - no matter what others may say - in the years to come he will be such a joy and a pleasure to you that it will have been worth all the effort, all the sacrifice, and the patience and hardships that you all have undergone for HIS development. He is your job, and when God has given us a job we are quitters if we fail in that, in any sense of the word.
We often speak of you, and we know that had things been different, possibly the whole circumstance would have been different. When we think of it, in any sense, we can’t help but feel there’s something all wrong with somebody. A good portion of it, I’m sure is with our own selves. I blame myself for most of it, but it was certainly an error of the head - it was not of the heart; for if I know myself at all, I only pray that I may be used as an aid to someone. May I be the servant of most, and His servant most of all!

I am enclosing questions and will see to it that he is around the house on Wed. a.m.”
