This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of December, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [763], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [601].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading [Stroh Bldg.], 11:00 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Detroit, Mich. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: [GC pronounced the address “Stroff Bldg.”, spelling it S-t-r-o-h. EC pronounced it “Strohm”, then repeated “Stroff.”] Yes, we have the body, [763].
-
Now, as we find, there are conditions that disturb the better physical functionings of the body. In many respects there has been the tendency for applications to be made for effects rather than the causes of the conditions. This, then, has produced rather complications in the system. For the body responding and changing through the applications has made for some very discouraging experiences for the body. While they may not cause other than a great deal of anxiety, if the applications are continued for effects rather than causes we will eventually produce greater distresses and upsets in portions of the system.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [763] we are speaking of:
-
In the BLOOD SUPPLY we find there are the indications of a HUMOR, as it were, in the circulation. This arises, as WE find, from seepages and poisons that are not eliminated properly through their normal channels. Hence we have those arising effects; producing abrasions over portions of the body, or irritated portions, and a tendency for the hardening of the cuticle in portions that become rough. These are the effects, but the causes arise from conditions - as we shall find - in pressures in the axis of the pelvis itself.
-
As to the NERVOUS SYSTEM, here we find disturbances both in the cerebrospinal and the sympathetic nervous systems; some - through those irritations that have been indicated - become more sympathetic reactions, and we have at others those where pressures are made, and we have an upsetting through the digestive area when nothing apparently tends to digest properly, while at others there is the tendency for the headaches, the dull heaviness that comes to the system, portions of the body where the skin becomes very dry and at others when there will be on the feet or hands or portions of the forehead or portions of the neck a cold, damp sweat. These are NERVOUS reactions; the worriments that come from these pressures on various portions of the organism affecting the system and thus producing those distresses. These necessarily, through the sympathetic system, affect the organs of the sensory system, so that the ear, the speech, the hearing at times become involved (not always, but) - these become accentuated, or there may be buzzing, or there may be phlegm accumulations in the bronchials of in the vocal organs. These are NERVE refractions and show disturbances through the circulation, as indicated, and where there is the constant use of any of these there is irritation produced to the organs themselves. For instead of carrying altogether replenishing forces and then carrying away drosses through the other portions of the cellular forces in the blood stream itself, there are DEPOSITS at times in any used portions. Hence muscular forces, as well as portions of the extremities, become affected. Hence we have a neuritic effect over the whole system.
-
As to the ORGANS themselves:
-
The brain forces are good.
-
The sensory organism is as indicated.
-
The lungs and the pulmonary reactions and the eliminations are not equally balanced; yet the circulation and pulsation and temperature of the body through those activities change very easily. These are the EFFECTS, not the causes but effects, of disturbances.
-
The digestive system, as with the heart, the liver and spleen, pancreas, and activities through the assimilating forces are upset through the nervous condition - and become a PART of the reactions at times; though organically and functionally they are not disturbed, save as a reflex in the nerve forces.
-
In the lumbar and the coccyx area, then, do we find the greater stress on this body, [763] we are speaking of. There is that tendency for the body to become unbalanced in its locomotion, or as it stands on its feet there is the tendency to shift from one foot to another. These pressures, of course, are very minute; but the taxations here produce the circulations to the jejunum, specifically, that make for the tendency of seepage to the system that causes the taxation in the blood supply. Those activities that arise from the nervous forces are the result both of activities through the seepages to the circulation and the pressure on the pelvic organs themselves.
-
As we find, then, in meeting the conditions of this body, the effects must be taken into consideration; yet the cause must be reached by making those corrections from the activity in the system where pressures are created in the lower lumbar, sacral and coccyx area. These we would relieve by the corrections in a MANIPULATIVE measure, which may be done either through the general massage - as in taking a sweat bath AND massage with same, and then the pressures made, or they may be relieved through the general osteopathic manipulations. These would be made specifically around the coccyx area, in the 4th lumbar, and naturally coordinating the cervicals - through the hypogastric and pneumogastric plexus - to coordinate with the rest of the system. If the manipulations or adjustments are made with the massage method, there would be necessitated a treatment each day. If they are made with the adjustments and osteopathic manipulations, a treatment would be required about three times each week.
-
After each meal for three to four days at the time, take a small quantity of Al-Caroid internally - as an assistant in the flow of the gastric juices in the stomach proper.
-
Also we would find it effective to take a small quantity of Milk of Bismuth with Lactated Pepsin occasionally. This will make for a gastric flow and an activity in the mucous membranes through the lymph circulation, through the jejunum, as to make for HEALING and not irritations through these portions. Take this about three or four times each week; a teaspoonful Milk of Bismuth and six drops or minims of Essence of Lactated Pepsin stirred together in a whole glass of water.
-
We would also find it most beneficial to apply the very low form of electrical vibration that may be had from the Radio- Active Appliance. This would be applied as the body rests of an evening BEFORE retiring. This is preferable, for this body, to attempting to apply it after having retired. This we would use in the regular order; the left wrist and right ankle one day, the right wrist and left ankle the next day - for a period of thirty minutes to one hour each evening.
-
Be mindful of the diet that it is kept tending towards a well-balance, yet more of an alkalin than an acid reaction.
-
Do these.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present. [See 763-1, Par. R1.]

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 12/17/34 CLAIRVOYANCE -
(At end of reading 763-1, after saying “We are through for the present,” Mr. Cayce said - after Mrs. Cayce had started to give him the suggestion for waking -) “Who is that? Somebody knocking.” Pausing a moment due to the interruption, Mrs. Cayce then continued with the waking suggestion. He woke up normally, within a minute or two, as usual. Hugh Lynn then entered, bringing a telegram which had just arrived. Hugh Lynn had seen the messenger out the window and had met him at the door so that he wouldn’t disturb us by ringing the doorbell.
Evidently Mr. Cayce clairvoyantly knew the man was approaching, or sensed Hugh Lynn’s urgency about preventing the knocking or ringing. The Conductor, the Steno and the two others in the room with Edgar Cayce heard nothing. Hugh Lynn was in the living room at the front of the house and saw the messenger coming in from the street and intercepted him. The distance from the living room and the “reading” room was too great to allow us to hear Hugh Lynn’s quiet opening of the door as he went out to meet the messenger. GD.
R2. 12/27/34 Mrs. [601]‘s letter: “Mr. [763] received his reading and will begin the osteopathic treatments. It is a very difficult job to convince him to carry out all the suggestions in the reading and leave the doctor’s advice alone until he gives the reading a chance. I will keep in touch with him. The doctor is treating him at present with massages for the prostate gland.”
R3. 1/6/35 Letter form Mrs. [601]: “I had loaned my Radio-Active battery to Mr. [763] when he received his reading but have just phoned him and found out he hasn’t used it at all. He has been taking the osteopathic treatments as advised (three each week) but does not seem to feel any relief.”
R4. 1/9/35 EC’s letter to Mrs. [601]: “Would it be well for you to suggest to Mr. [763] that he let us get a check reading on him now, that might be helpful not only to him but to the osteopath? However, as you say, if he is not using the Radio-Active Appliance nor following the diet and other suggestions, he cannot expect the results promised. As you know, we would be only too glad to be of any help possible.”
R5. 1/14/35 Letter from Mrs. [601]: “I have suggested to Mr. [763] to arrange for a check reading but he wishes to wait until he has had a month of osteopathic treatments. He is feeling a little better.”
R6. 1/25/35 Letter from Mrs. [601]: “When [480] first began taking the osteopathic treatments at Dr. Snedeker’s office, a young Dr. John R. Thompson was Dr. Snedeker’s assistant at that time, but since last September has branched out for himself and has an office at 405 Stevens Bldg., Detroit.
He is sincerely interested in the readings we have shown to him, and being a very capable osteopath, I have referred Mr. [763] and Mrs. [787] to him for their treatments. Mr. [763] is coming along fine, showing definite improvements but is still hanging on to the doctor recommended through Mayo Brothers.”
R7. 2/4/35 Letter from Mrs. [601]: “Mr. [763] is doing very nicely and believe you will hear from him in the near future.”
R8. 2/19/35 Letter from Dr. Thompson: “Reading of Mr. [763] findings and conditions stated in reading concerning structural mal-adjustments as well as others substantiated upon examination, and treatments carried out accordingly with following results - pain in coccyx area entirely gone allowing patient to sit upright instead of well over on one side while at work, pain on walking greatly relieved as well as the unbalanced locomotion being almost entirely corrected. Strength slowly but steadily returning to the lower back region, with the only remaining difficulties being a slight pulling forward sensation on walking and a persistence of some of the pain in the leg and foot - tho’ that is greatly reduced. Might add that this case got no relief at either Mayo’s or the Ann Arbor Hospital where he had gone before consulting you.”
R9. 3/3/35 First letter from [763]: “I wish to advise you that my condition has improved and would appreciate an appointment for a check reading at this time. With regard to the question relating to the serum injections, I have been under the care of a physician while taking the osteopathic treatments.”
(GD’s memo: Appointment delayed due to EC’s trip to N.Y., and one appointment made was not kept by Mr. [763] due to not receiving notification in time to reply.
Notice that all symptoms mentioned by Dr. Thompson in his letter of 2/19/35 were previously mentioned by EC in the reading on 12/17/34, who had no prior knowledge or indication whatever of Mr. [763]‘s condition.)
R10. 3/30/35 See 763-2 for prostatitis.
R11. 6/35 A.R.E. Bulletin used Mr. [763]‘s case in a group of reports entitled CHECKING THE READINGS.
