This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 4th day of January, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [779], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:35 to 11:55 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama. (Physical Suggestion, with special reference to pain in abdomen and right side.)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before.
-
As we find, while the condition is very acute in the present, it is not NECESSARILY operative; for it is not so much a disturbance in the appendicial area as in the upper portion of the caecum; though there is an involvement in the area about the gall duct as well, and a great deal of distress through portions of the jejunum. For there is the tendency for a telescoping of the area just before entering the appendicial area, or the caecum center itself.
-
We would then in the present give first:
-
Paint the side of the area with three parts Laudanum to one part Aconite, and apply an ice cap to the area. If there is not relief in two to three hours, and then there is the indication of temperature with it, it will be necessary for operative measures.
-
Should this bring relief, then it is necessary that there be other applications which we would give as these:
-
We would apply Castor Oil Packs, very heavy, and HEAT! This, though, more in the whole of the right side, extending from the lower portion of the rib to the caecum and the groin on the right side.
-
We would take then an enema; this rather heavy with salt AND soda combined, so as to clear the whole of the colon area. To the quart of water add a level teaspoonful of salt and a level teaspoonful of soda. These to be thoroughly dissolved; and do not have the temperature of the water higher than the temperature of the body, neither lower. But only these in case there is the relief from the applications of the painting of body with the solution AND the ice caps, see? If there is temperature, these will need necessarily hospitalization and eventually operation.
-
If the Packs of the Oils are taken, these would be applied for two to three hours, changing two to three times during that time, you see, and as hot as the body can take same - three to four folds of flannel dipped in the hot Castor Oil. And then rest for an hour, and then take for an hour again.
-
Then we would give about half a cup of Olive Oil (teacup). This not warm but not too cold - the Olive Oil taken, see?
-
Then later, we would take (of course, this is to be taken - the Olive Oil - after there has been the cleansing of the colon with the enema), in a day or two, about three to four doses of Castoria out of one small size bottle; so that the system is able to absorb this and eliminate the poisons and the inflammatory conditions.
-
After this take small doses, teaspoonful, of Milk of Bismuth.
-
Then the next day take another course of the Castoria.
-
These should remove the disturbances and attune or tone the body to the proper reactions.
-
First then, immediately, paint the body - the right side and the area, between the gall duct and the lower portion of the abdomen or to the caecum and groin area - with three parts of Laudanum to one part of Aconite. Then apply COLD rather than heat. But if temperature arises, hospitalization.
-
If there is the response to these, then commence with these:
-
First the enema; then the Packs two hours, rest and hour, two hours again. Then the Olive Oil, then the next day Castoria, then the next day the Milk of Bismuth. And then follow same the next day with the Castoria.
-
The diet should be liquids or semi-liquids rather than solid foods.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 1/8/37 Letter to EC from Mr. [779]:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Cayce:
I guess you have been wondering how I am getting along since that reading. Well, I am still here. Been feeling pretty bad, but feel much better today. The first time I have been up all day since Monday. I do not know of any words or enough money to express my appreciation and thanks for the prompt service you gave me in this matter.
I am very sure that this information came in just the right time or I would have surely been cut open by now. In fact, I was hurting so bad before the reading came that I went to the hospital and the Doctors assured me of no relief other than that of an operation, and I had made arrangements to report back at 6 o’clock that evening, but the pain ceased and of course, I did not go back. I applied the suggestion given, and today I am on the road to be good as new except I am very sore in the abdomen region, but I am sure that I will overcome that within a few days.
This is all that I will attempt to write at this time, but will write you again in a few days as to my condition, and at the same time I hope to have a pay day and will send you enough at least to pay for stamps.
Again accept my thanks for the kind favor. With love to all.
Yours very truly, [779]
R2. 1/14/37 Wire: “Condition very sensitive yet. Would dread another attack. Do I have cancerous or ulcerous stomach? Why loss of much weight? Any special diet?”
R3. 1/16/37 See 779-23.
R4. 9/30/40 Reply to Questionnaire: “I followed the suggestions exactly except painting of the side. The disturbance was removed. No operation as yet, and no return of the severe pain.”
R5. 10/28/52 D. H. Fogel, M.D., said he would index the condition described in 779-22 as typhlitis (inflammation of caecum).
