This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at 1867 Kalorama Rd., Washington, D.C., this 1st day of February, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [807], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Myrtle Poe.]
Time of Reading 3:40 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [807].
-
Now, as we find, there are conditions that disturb the better physical functioning of this body. The greater portion of these is the natural result of changes which have come about in the alteration of the life’s activities; yet there are specific conditions the correction of which will relieve much of that which has distressed and does distress the body, relieving the nerve tension and bringing about a different outlook upon the experiences of life than the entity has in the present.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [807] we are speaking of:
-
The BLOOD SUPPLIES indicate there has been a disturbance in the eliminations, as well as in the manner the body through its normal activities has been affected by the character of assimilations; making for or producing such tendencies in the system as an overacid condition, especially in the upper digestive area, that tends to make for irritations through the reflexes in the activity of the hepatic circulation, that tends to cause a fullness to form in the abdominal area after eating; also the tendency for belching, headaches, or irritations from tiredness after attempting to rest, with headaches at periods and an irritable reaction at the least condition that arises; heaviness in the lower limbs, bearing down feelings especially in the right side. These are merely the effects of such disturbances.
-
There are those actions in the NERVOUS SYSTEM from certain unbalanced conditions in the axis, specifically in the 4th lumbar area, that cause the tendency for the periods of menopause to have acted upon the body not only as an irritation but to make for the hot and cold influences in the system to affect the body in the indicated ways and manners. In this unbalanced condition in the nerve system we find reflexes also in the brachial center or plexus, or in the hypogastric and pneumogastric in the 3rd cervical where there is the coordinating with the 5th nerve to the face and the vagus to the throat; and the activities through these make for the fullness and choking that comes at times to the body.
-
Then, we find these are the general reflex conditions but are making such taxations in the system that the liver, pancreas and spleen are becoming involved in the condition. And unless there is a relief from these pressures we must sooner or later have those conditions that arise from the congestion in this area, or the reflex to the kidneys and their activity for the body. For all of these AT TIMES are involved (not always) or under the reactions, or are affected by the reactions.
-
As we find, then, in meeting the needs of the conditions of this body, [807], we would:
-
Begin with very small quantities of Atomidine, that will make for a purifying and a clarifying of the gland activities of the system; so making for the activities throughout the system - in the stimuli to the thyroid, the glands of the stomach or digestive system, the lyden glands, the adrenals and throughout even the ductless glands in various portions of the system - as to clarify all portions for their special activity. The dosage would be one minim of morning before the meal, and one minim of evening just before retiring, in a glass of water - or half a glass of water. Continue, in this manner, for a week; then skip three days, then take for a week again. Then skip three days, and then take for another week. This is to allow the reactions to the functioning of the glands of the body. These properties are to act upon the body in supplying the iodine necessary to create a better balance for the reduction of acidity and the decreasing of the excess quantity of potassiums in the system.
-
We would begin at once with the manipulations that will make for a correction in the 4th lumbar specifically, coordinating throughout the whole of the dorsal area - especially in the 9th and 10th and the brachial center, and throughout the cervical centers, with those reactions that are made by the CORRECTIONS osteopathically in the 4th lumbar. Also we would find it most helpful to include with the corrections in the 4th lumbar the pressures - not corrections, but pressures - or the lifting, as it were, about the coccyx end of the cerebrospinal system, to relieve those tensions that naturally come from segmentation activity during such periods of change in the activities of the body. The osteopathic manipulations should be in the beginning, for the first three weeks, about three times each week, with about two of the corrections made in the lumbar coordinating in the dorsal areas throughout and the other a GENERAL treatment. Then they would be reduced in number, or to less often during a week; or there may be a rest period of a week and then begin taking them again two each week, one an adjustment and the other a general treatment.
-
Be mindful of the diet throughout these periods; that there is not taken too much sweets. When sweets are taken, let them be principally honey or saccharin. Not too much starch, though starch may be included in the form of whole wheat - either as a cereal or bread. But the general diet should be rather inclined towards the alkalin-producing foods, rather than an excess acid.
-
Do these, and we will bring the nearer normal conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/8/35 Letter from [807]: ”…Thank you so very much for the reading. Can you send me the name of an osteopath who has worked for you? The only one I know here is a Dr. Shaw [J. Edgar Shaw, D.O.]. He charges five dollars a visit and fifteen dollars a week is really more than I can afford.
“I can hardly eat a thing. Everything gives me colitis. I have a very inflamed colon. I’ve been constipated all my life, but just lately I balance between hard stools and diarrhea. Also I cannot sleep without a sedative, which worries me.
“Do you think that it would be best for me to come to Virginia Beach for treatments - if I could make it?…”
R2. 2/15/35 HLC’s letter to [807]: ”…As my father, Mr. Edgar Cayce, is out of the city at the present time I am taking the privilege of answering your letter of the 8th.
“Regarding the osteopath we are very glad to recommend Dr. Frank Dobbins, 551 5th Ave., N.Y.C. or Dr. LeRoy Coombs 454 Ft. Washington Ave., N.Y.C. Both of these gentlemen have handled several cases recommended by readings. You will find either of them sympathetic and ready to carry out the suggestions in your reading just as given.
“At the present time the Association does not operate a hospital. We do have a number of very fine doctors in Norfolk who carry out the readings and cooperate with us fully, and if you are interested in entering an institution for treatment we are in constant touch with several that will follow the suggestions in the readings carefully.
“We will be very glad to have a report of your progress from time to time. If there is anything further you wish to know please advise me. I wish you every success in carrying out your treatments.”

B1. 1/8/34 “Through a friend of mine I heard of Mr. Cayce, so am writing to you for information. I have been suffering from some nervous trouble for the past four years. I have tried many doctors, but can’t seem to ‘pull out of it.’”
B2. 1/21/35 “Specifically I would like to know what is causing my trouble, and what to do to get well.”
