This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 31st day of August, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [815], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:15 to 4:45 P. M. Eastern War Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will have before you the entity [815], N.Y.C., who seeks information, advice and guidance as to his life, his work and associations. You will answer the questions he submits, as I ask them; a copy of which I hold in my hand.

2. EC: Yes, we have the enquiring mind, [815]. Various phases of experiences and associations for this entity we have had before.

3. In the present there are varied experiences that disturb the body. Many of these, if they are taken in a systematic manner, may be worked out in the experience in a satisfactory manner. There are abilities, and the body allows self’s inner judgement at times to be overruled, through its mental concepts of urges that are indicated. And if the more normal policy were taken, these might be worked out much more satisfactorily.

5. (Q) I am U.S. Military Service “Draft” age, - 39. I wish to know how I may effectively serve my country best in these immediate days to come, not to mention the next few years with both Saturn and Uranus plowing through Gemini, the sign of this country’s astrological birth. (A) In analyzing the abilities, the existent conditions, we find that if the entity would work with any definite group organized to supply talent for the entertaining of camps or cantonments, these would be channels through which the entity might contribute the greater helps for those conditions that exist; recognizing that the morale of those in the armed services, in all branches, needs those characters of entertainment and interest that will keep a more constructive influence in the experience of each. Thus the aid in such, and in choosing the types of such help as would be contributors to this effort, would enable the entity to find the greater outlet for its abilities than in any individual classification for armed conflict.

6. (Q) I have been thinking of seeing my friend of some years ago, F. Trubee Davison, now Asst. Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Corps, A I Division, at the Munitions Bldg, in Washington, D.C. (A) (Interrupting) This would be a very good channel to approach in the near future, for just such an association as has been indicated above. For, there would be a better understanding and a better means for connections through these channels than through most. While these are not altogether the regular channels for the approach to such activity, we find that with the association of this entity Davison there may be given the correct channel through which the entity might be a contributor to that field of service indicated.

This we would approach, then, if there is the choice in self. But remember, the answer must come from self, as to a cause or a purpose. Approach same, then, not from an astrological urge but a mental and a spiritual DESIRE to offer self in a service for the help of thy fellow man, and for the country.

7. (Q) When would you advise me to request an appointment to see him? (A) As indicated, just as soon as the body makes up its mind as to whether or not this is a channel of service in which it would offer self!

8. (Q) I cannot merely “go off” and enlist and leave certain people close to my heart and soul behind, - (A) (Interrupting) But, as we have indicated, this is not a “going off.” It is not a shunning; it is a filling of a place that the body is better fitted for, can better adapt itself to, than the mere enlisting for self or individual service in any branch of military or armed service.

9. (Q) How best may I serve [2700] now? I have a deep obligation to her. (A) As indicated, in those relationships, - assist her in fitting self for that activity which has been outlined for her; in making for her those contacts, those connections, which will bring about the greater opportunities for conclusive activities in directions given.

10. (Q) Your Life Reading for [2700], given March 15th, stressed early in the reading: “Many phases of material emotion appeal to the entity, and yet the sincerity may be said to be the real virtue of this entity in this experience. Though oft there may be disappointments in individuals, and many promises may partially be broken, HOLD TO THAT SINCERITY AND LACK OF SHAM IN THE ACTIVITIES OF SELF in relationships to individuals, to things and conditions.” Through these days of August, since her 21st birthday on July 31, some strange “wall” has come between us, for which I cannot account (save economic necessities and their lacks, precluding possibility of my doing for her what I had long and ardently planned to do). But this does not fit the “keyhole,” for she IS - as you stated in the information - “the sincerity may be said to be the real virtue of this entity in this experience.” How may I proceed to the unfoldment of our plans, aspirations, hopes and wishes? (A) Just as indicated, - in making those contacts for the entity [2700], those associations, that give the greater opportunity for the filling of those purposes and abilities which have been indicated.

And in self’s associating self in that line of endeavor or field of activity indicated, the entity may give the self that opportunity to make many of those contacts which have been indicated. This may require the entity, [815], conforming to the ideas of others, who may not be better fitted to fill places of supplies; yet the entity can adjust itself to take such suggestions and directions and use them in ways or means as to bring to its fellow men who are actually in the field of service, and who are to represent the country in the defense of ideals and principles, such a contribution as to be for the better welfare of the nation.

And in so doing the entity may contribute to the moral, the material stamina in self, as to break down the wall of apparent indifference, or lack of full interest, with the body [2700].

There ARE karmic forces to be worked out together. Let it never be said that the self shunned thy duty or neglected the opportunities.

11. (Q) Every astrologer erecting a chart for [2700]. (A) (Interrupting) We have little or nothing to contribute to the interest self evinces in astrology. Not that there are not definite helps to be attained from astrology, but those who live by same the more oft are controlled rather than controlling their own lives and their destinies.

Astrology is a fact, in most instances. But astrological aspects are but signs, symbols. NO INFLUENCE is of greater value or of greater help than the WILL of an individual.

Use such directions as steppingstones. Do not let them become stumblingstones in thy experience.

12. (Q) [2700] has been of the finest prompting influence in my life since entering it - (A) (Interrupting) Then keep it such! DO NOT do that in self’s experience to the activities of the body, but be rather ever a HELPFUL influence in the association; and BUILD - irrespective of what others may say or do.

13. (Q) How could our marriage effectively aid our growth, and when would be a propitious time for this event? (A) When this unpleasantness (as some term) is at an end; when this period of the national emergency is passed and there is set again a reasoning from a peaceful means and progress. Not during this emergency period.

14. (Q) How may I best proceed in effective aid with my gifts for the book, “There Is A River?” (A) These activities must come from within the urge that is within self, and from the acquainting of self with the ideals and principles, the basis of the thoughts and ideas and ideals expressed there. Then in aiding others, in making others aware of a channel for growth, counsel, advice.

15. (Q) What directions can you give me for the “pivot” or turning point that my life has been undergoing these months, with the planet Neptune - (Q) As indicated heretofore, do not attempt to be guided by, but use the astrological influences as the means to meet or to overcome the faults and failures, or to minimize the faults and to magnify the virtues in self, - as may be used through such periods in a propitious way and manner. But through the channels indicated for the present may the greater steps be taken for equalizing and bringing about the better influences in the experience of self.

Do that.

R1. 8/31/42 GD’s comment: You asked what was meant by the advice to “Parallel Readings.” It was meant that you should compare your Reading with Miss [2700], to see where you had been associated before and how, also as to your virtues to be expressed and faults to be overcome in this life. In this way you could better understand how to work out together your problems and opportunities. For instance, just as you would compare your astrological charts, you should go through your Life Readings with a fine tooth comb, as it were, to see wherein you agree or disagree, and why, and what you should do about it. Just as an example of what I mean, I will go through both Readings and quote certain passages in an attempt to make clear the manner in which you are to do the paralleling:

First, astrologically - your Rdg. [815-2]:

“Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Venus. Mars and Venus are in conjunction with the activities of the entity, making for definite experiences or opportunities that may become experiences in the entity’s sojourn in the present. Also Saturn makes for the tendencies for the entity to change this or that association, this or that environment, before there has been - often - the possibility even for the culmination of the activities from the influences set in motion.”

Next, astrologically - her Rdg. [2700]:

“We find Mercury or mind, or change, as combined with Venus and Neptune. These, as we find, produce those tendencies for sudden changes that appear in the emotions when studied from the astrological aspect. Also the Sun and Moon are influences. Thus the combative forces for security, or those tendencies for the entity to become rather lavish in its expenditures, if it is the desire or the purpose of the entity. Hence there would be needs of the systematic reactions, for little of system - though routine oft becomes a part of the entity’s experience, but little of systematic routine is deeply motivating the influences to that of bringing security at periods. However, it is true that those who open not to give to others neither open to receive the greater blessings.”

Comment: It would seem that these influences are too much alike, there’s too much change and indecision manifested in each to make for a stable association or a balance one for the other. Too much wishywashiness is indicated; there would need to be more positiveness manifested, or more of a leadership or definiteness in one or the other, for this to be a satisfactory union - from the mental and material standpoint.

Next, regarding marriage - your Rdg. [815-2]:

“In Mars we find, with Venus, a detrimental influence respecting marital relations; for these make for the demanding by the entity (as in the changes) for those with whom it may be associated those things oft hard to be comprehended or understood by others. It is not the greater things in the entity’s own development but the minor things that make for feelings or appearances of neglect, indifference, change in the manner of approach. This also is an attribute, developed in this experience, that SHOULD be negativated from the activities of the entity. For friendships and those relationships that bring the greater possibilities in the experience of the entity arise from the entity’s neglect of those attributes that are as opportunities in these directions.”

Her Rdg. [2700]:

“The home is the eventual hope and latent influence ever felt in the entity. Thus the needs that in the choice of companionship there be not only the outward emotional influence but that in which security or safety may be a part of the prompting in same.”

Comment: Your nature as outlined in the above, would not seem to fit the need in Miss [2700]‘s choice of a marriage partner. While there is indicated the outward emotional influence between the two of you, there is NOT indicated the security or safety angle, - either from the emotional, material or spiritual. This does not mean that you could not develop these virtues, but they are not indicated as being a part of your natural, normal expression.

Next, regarding work - or vocation - your Rdg. [815-2]:

“We find from Mercury, with Uranus, a high ennobling influence in the entity; high mental attributes, especially in specific directions, having to do with people, individuals, masses, groups, as to their activities and their associations - whether in those lines of the arts or of depicting for the fellows that which is the prompting influence in the experience of others; as in story or in writing. ANY of these are as the influences to which the entity is NATURALLY drawn. But the GREATER development may come not in its criticism but in its constructive aid to individuals STRUGGLING to know what is constructive in their experience. For this, then, would make for those experiences when the little niceties - that are the natural tend of the entity - become selfless and more for the advancing of the activities of others. Not of self; for he that would have life must give it; he that would know God must be - in the attributes of the earth - in those things that are of the spirit: Gentle, kind, longsuffering, brotherly love, and - most of all must this entity learn

• patience! That the entity has fallen in oft!

Her Rdg. [2700]:

“One given to the abilities in dance, in speech, and especially in esthetic dancing or that in which the rhythm of the body is the expression of that attempted to be portrayed. One athletic in its nature, and the love of outdoors and of nature is a part of the experience. Music has its appeal, but there are definite likes and dislikes in same. Thus music that is pastoral, or that depicts the emotions in nature or in body or in activity, or that may be enacted, appeals the more. Thus the stringed and reed instruments are those that appeal the more in such activities. Things pertaining to stage, radio or the like, may be channels, then, through which the entity may gain recognition as to its abilities.”

Comment: It would seem that you are one ideally suited to help her in her career, to be a life-long friend and counselor and adviser as to her contacts, as to the minutest details of her public life. To me it appears that for you to be married to one another would be very bad for both of you; it would be like living off of cake all the time, instead of a well balanced diet that everyone needs. Pardon me for making such a statement, but it is exactly as I see it, - judging entirely from the Readings, of course, as I do not know either of you personally.

Now as for the paralleling of the former appearances, - going back from the present, it appears that an association or acquaintance might have been possible during the Crusades.

Your Rdg. [815-2]:

“Before that, then, we find the entity was in the experience when there were many changes coming through the activative influences in that land now known as the German, but during those periods when there were the gatherings of many peoples for the Holy Wars - or for the Crusades, as termed in the present. The entity was among those from that land who joined with those peoples in that activative force; bringing for self that which was a mental development. AGAIN we find the failings of the entity as a leader in the Holy Land, that had gained to a portion of that now known as the Greek and Turkish land. These made for the rebellions in the activative forces of the entity; shame at first, then resentment for the failure of those influences that had prompted the entity to go out with such high hopes, in the name Hafensteinger. In the latter portion of that experience the entity made for the great development; learning to show kindness to those that are wrath, those that would make for the carrying of resentments to bodily activities. Hence in the present experience of the body there have been very definite influences in the manifested and innate activity as to its aversion to armed forces; and its desires make for the connections or associations with those who suffer through apparently no fault of themselves, but because of the activities on the part of others, whom the entity may befriend. These are ennobling in the experience, each. But that which has made for resentment respecting religious influence being the basis of an entity’s activity is not so well. Make these compatible, my son, in thine experience; and ye may find these may bring to thine own inner self that which will arouse those periods when - even though thine heart is sad, thine mind is bad, thine surroundings trouble thee - the glory of that which prompts the kindness is the greater glory for making in thine own self gladness. For they that would be made glad must be glad to those that are even sad.”

Her Rdg. [2700]:

“Before that the entity was in the French land, in those periods when there were groups entering the Holy War for ideals and purposes of a whole nation or group. The entity then was in the opposite sex, and made overtures as a leader of a group. Thus the abilities of the entity to act in forces pertaining to prowess in physical strength, or in giving expression of the tendency towards athletics or motions of the body, the motions of the limbs and the like. For the symmetrical activities and abilities arise much from the influences the entity entertained and acted upon during those periods of experience. As to gain or loss, it might be termed that there was a balancing of one with the other; yet these enter as a portion of the emotions or the innate forces in the entity itself. The use of these, then, may be applied in its activities; yet, as then, there needs to be that balancing of the spiritual influences in same.”

Comment: There are all sorts of possibilities of association to be drawn. She being a man then, and usurping the leadership of a group, we might draw on our imagination and say that she may have been the one to take the lead in your place, when you failed; she making a success materially, while you felt yourself a failure. However, from the experiences we find that in the present you have a spiritual understanding and manner of application which might well be applied to balance her activities in regard to her career. Naturally, there is no indication here of a marital tie. (Notice why best not to enter ARMED service at present.)

The next association indicated from your Readings was in Persia.

Your Rdg. [815-2]:

“The experience before that was in the now known Persian or Arabian land, during those periods when there were the gatherings of many to the “city in the hills and in the plains” for the message that had gone to many lands and was being taken up by many. The entity was among the Persians that had been in and among the officers of the king’s command that had been overrun. The entity came and made for those conditions that brought to its own land a greater peace and harmony, and aided in establishing what later became the Zoroastrian activity; which has in the present been of especial interest - and will be more so if it is studied the more. The name then was Axendia. The entity gained throughout and in the present there are those abilities of the entity as to its descriptions that it may write; as of a play, as of a wedding, as of any functioning where there is the activity that joins lives or makes for those associations that will bring into the experience the changes for the opportunity of developing and giving of selves in service for others. These become as innate and manifested in the entity’s abilities and activities in the present. It is well to build upon same.”

Her Rdg. [2700]:

“Before that the entity was in the Arabian and Persian land, during those periods when in the “city in the hills and plains” there were those tendencies for grouping of individuals towards the teachings of the mystic nature (or of the teacher in that experience), for the beneficient influences in the lives of peoples of many groups and nations. The entity was a musician, though one who used same in the healing art, or as a portion of those experiences when the quieting of the fears of individuals from various spheres of activity was brought about by the means of the music. Thus the lute, as well as the stringed instruments, become those that act more as the soothing influence, as well as those in which the entity may in its dance interpret the better; rather than the brass instruments. The name then was Melsanteudendt. The entity gained much, which is expressed at present in the interpretations of those things prompted by listening to the voice within, and of the activities of things pertaining to spiritual attitude - as the listening not only to the promptings from without but to the music of the spheres, or of the stars, or of nature itself. Thus the entity may attune itself to those activities in which there may come the greater awakening in the present.”

Comment: From the above association you probably have the most constructive urges for present relationships, - as a oneness of purpose in your studies and mutual interests along many lines in the field of art. There may have been even a marriage with one another in that period, but if so it was secondary - because the outstanding urges come in regard to your work. You should find of interest and help the Rudolph Steiner movement. Are you familiar with it - The Anthroposophical Society there in N.Y.? Mr. Cayce was the teacher or healer referred to in the “city in the hills,” and should be of great help to both of you in the present, as your whole life expression then was based on his teachings.

Next, - you probably had an association in Atlantis, which no doubt brings about somewhat of a worshipfulness on your part in the present.

Your Rdg. [815-2]:

“Before that the entity was in that known as the Atlantean land, during those periods when many were making preparations for the changes from the land when the calamitous activities were imminent - through the activities of the sons of Belial, in opposition to those of the Law of One. The entity then was among those peoples that were advanced from the various developments during that period, and was an expert in handling of the crafts of the day that made for the manners of escape by those that went to the different lands; as to the Pyrenees, to Lama [Lemu?], into Yucatan, and to the Egyptian land - to which the entity went and engaged in the activities there; or all of these - as things that pertain to the Aztecs, that later arose - as those things of Egypt, the Pyrenees, the Incal - have their influence in the entity’s activities in the present, the developing of which may make for experiences that may bring the greater material gain in the present. For the interests that are arising in the activities that are unearthing - as in Alexandria, as it will be in Yucatan - as is to be in the next two and a half years in the Gobi - will enable the entity to use its abilities in that direction; for it may depict or write about such things, in play or song, as few can EVER do! The name then was Azexl.”

Her Rdg. [2700]:

“Before this the entity was in the Egyptian land (to which you came from Atlantis), when there were those periods of reconstruction, when individuals were being chosen as channels for expression. The entity was among the children of those who had been purified in the Temple of Sacrifice as well as the Temple Beautiful. Thus a channel, thus the latent force of the desire for home, desire for security, yet never just in the grasp of the entity. There are the needs for a protecting force. Yet know that there is the power latent within self that may ever be the guiding light. For, spirit is willing, flesh is weak. Motivated by the influences of the spirit there may be brought the promptings of the heart and the mind for not only material but mental and material satisfaction, and spiritual strength, in this material plane. The name then was Est-Il-On. The entity then was a granddaughter of the High Priest (now Mr. Cayce).”

Comment: Or, instead of the Egyptian period, it may be that her Atlantean incarnation paralleled yours, - as follows: “Before that the entity was in the Atlantean land. There the entity was a priestess in the temple, in the name Elon. For, the entity was of the children of the Law of One, and the entity interpreted to the peoples through those periods just before the first destruction of those principles of the relationships of individuals along the varied stages of their spiritual evolution. Thus that sincerity so latent and active yet in the entity’s forces.” It may be that you were her son in that period, or else having been “advanced from the various developments through that period,” by the priestess herself, - that is, raised from a lower caste, we might say, to a higher position, - you naturally have a reverence and a confidence in her and a love for her that you have not felt for any other. However, this does not mean that marriage would be the best way to promote or to prolong or to bring out the best in your relationships one with the other. As I said before, this is merely my opinion from studying both Readings, but I close with the last question in her Rdg. [2700]:

(Q) “What is the meaning of my relationship with [815], and in what way can we best serve each other?” (A) “As indicated, these relationships should be indicated by drawing parallels. They are a part of each other’s karmic force, and thus have a bearing upon the activities. As to whether these are to be met in relationships other than those existing in the present, must be determined by purposes of each.”

“I want to thank you for your grand generosity and sensitiveness, in spontaneously ‘taking the reading in hand’ and sensing my frets, needs and urges for clarity, especially at this time-of-decisions in my days.
