1. EC: (In going back over years to birth date - “‘29, ‘28 - Some hard seasons! ‘27, ‘26,” etc.)

2. Yes, we have the record of the entity here, and those relations with the universe and the universal forces, as are latent and manifested in the personality and individuality of the entity called [846].

3. BRIGHT, bright indeed are those surroundings that portend for a great awakening for the entity before this time next season!

4. In entering the present experience in the earth, through those associations of the entity’s activities in the earth, and in the interims sojourn in this solar aspect, we find - for the more perfect understanding:

5. Know that the sojourning of the entity or soul in those environs about the earth, or of which the earth is a part, makes for those things that INNATELY influence the entity in its associations and activities in the present experience, or in any experience. For, as there is seen from association of ideals, of ideas, and their relative relationships with the activities of an entity, it becomes a portion of same - even as a brogue or as a habit, or as an activity that becomes a part of the emotions or motions of a body. This is an illustration. Not that it manifests, save in the INNER self.

6. As we find, there are the influences of Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn and Uranus in the experience of the entity. And soon there enters the experience in those periods at the birthday in the present year when Jupiter, with Venus’ sojourn, makes for the greater awakening or greater development in the application of the entity in this earthly sojourn.

7. One, then (but this is irrespective of what the entity does about the urges), with a high temper; that may make for a great expression or may make for those influences that would become stumbling experiences in the activities of the entity.

8. From the activities of the Uranian sojourn, the entity is interested in that which makes for the emotions in the experience of peoples; whether they are of the mystic, occult, scientific, or ORDINARY individuals - as would be termed in common parlance. This makes for the eccentricities of the entity in its relationships with individuals. And it depends upon the application of same as to whether these become as stepping-stones for the higher emotions or higher activities, or whether they become as stumbling-stones over which the entity may - in its application of its ideal - become as one tripped upon its own self.

9. In Jupiter we find the greater vision, the greater abilities in specific fields of activity; not only from that as accomplished by the entity in its activities in the earth (as will be seen) but through the application of that as attained in its sojourn in the environment.

10. Venus makes for that which becomes the bright or shining light in the experience, and in its development; that is, its love for its fellow man, and the manner, the way, that it would make for the greater education - or application of education - in the experiences of individuals; as well as love for children, love for those that have their problems and their stumbling in their own selves and in those things that make for the experiences of problems in their own activities.

11. As to what the entity has accomplished, or may accomplish in the experience in the present as respecting these urges, has depended and will depend upon what is the basis of its ideal. Not as an idealist, but rather as one making the application of the motivative forces towards constructive influences in the experience of individuals as associated with the activity of the entity in its relationships with others.

12. As to the appearances in the earth and those that influence the entity in the present, we find:

13. Before this the entity was in that now known as the Vineland, or THEN known as the Vineland - now the eastern land, in and about Provincetown and Salem.

14. It was during those periods when there were the questionings of many that had to do with those things which partook of the unseen influences in the movement, in the activity, in those things that many spoke of - as of possession, as of activity.

15. The entity neither accepted nor rejected such, yet was counted among those that were questioned because the entity saw fit to befriend those that were in need of a friend. This in the MATERIAL applications brought destructive forces, but in the mental and spiritual force it made for a development through that sojourn; though it was only of a short duration, for the entity only reached then the age of twenty-three. And there may be found the record in the old Salem churchyard of Sally Hellinger (?), who was among those that were dipped once too often - that brought about pneumonia, as would be called today. The record may be found there, bearing Sally Hellinger (?) - twenty-three - fourteenth of April.

16. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the Roman, during those periods when there were many changes being wrought in the experience of the peoples as related to the foreign lands or to those environs that were produced by the influx of those from other lands into the activities of Rome and its peoples at the time.

17. The entity then was among those that were brought from what is now know as the Egyptian land, during those periods when there were the attempts of that queen to prevent the overthrow of the activities during that experience.

18. The entity, then, was an aide to, or a waiter upon, not as a servant but rather as the companion of, that queen; and was in the name then She-Hepho.

19. In the experience the entity became as a companion, or the wife (later), of one of the ruler’s guards in that period.

20. Hence the story, the tales, the history of Cleopatra and those activities of that particular land have been at times a thing tabu - at others as an experience through which the entity has passed.

21. And we find an association very close in the present with those activities with the entity and the helpmate during that experience; and this may work out for a great development for both. For as the light comes, not as for the political power - as is associated with the individual in its activities in the present - but as these changes come in the associations and life, it may make for an advancement of the entity - that was in the name She-Hepho during the Roman experience of the first Caesars.

22. In the present from that sojourn, the stories of those activities and body-adornment, the beauty of body, those things that pertain to life in its very essence, become a portion of the entity’s experience; and are sought in its activity.

23. Before that we find the entity was in that land now know as or called the Promised Land, during those periods when there were the settlings of the land, when first the land of promise came to be a portion of Abraham’s or Abram’s and Sarai’s activity.

24. The entity then was among the daughters of Heth, of those peoples in that land, in the name then Beloi, and was very closely associated with Sarah, Abraham, Lot, and those people that settled in the plains about those plains of Abraham. And the entity’s daughter became then the leading among those that made for the combinations of the peoples of Isaac’s son and those of the Canaanite land.

25. In the experience the entity gained, for it PROCLAIMED man of those tenets or lessons or philosophies, or activities - as would be called in the present - as to establishing the relationships with individuals, and what became as the Creative Forces or that philosophy of life as pertaining to the Creative Energies as given out by Abraham during he period. The entity proclaimed same to the peoples roundabout, and made for the closer companionships with those first leaders of those people set apart for an activity in the earth.

26. In the present the entity finds those histories, those things that pertain to those promises to those peoples, as a portion of self; and much of that given becomes innate in the activities of the entity in the present. And hold thou to that which becomes a portion of the counsel, not only of Sarai or Sarah but that as was proclaimed by Abram or Abraham, which comes to thee.

27. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the Egyptian, during those periods when there were turmoils and strifes that arose from the banishment of the Priest, that had attempted to establish what might be called law and order as related to the spiritual life - not only of those that had sojourned there but of the native peoples.

28. The entity then was among the natives that joined with those that made for the rebellions in the land. Yet with the return of the Priest, with the establishing of the natives in those positions that made for the unity of the influences upon the activities of the natives and of those that were sojourning from other lands - during the periods of the tenets that were given that became the hospitalization, that became the first of the schools, that became the medicinal properties, and as the temple Service - the entity joined then with those that made for the establishings of the communicative forces in the varied lands and various places to which the various tenets were sent. For they were studied not only in the Indian land, the Mongoloid land, the Caucasian land, but the Incan land and those far beyond the seas. The entity then sent out much, in the name then De-La-Ar.

29. In the present from the experience we may find much that is in the abilities to give expression for the activities of others in their varied relationships with their fellow man.

30. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, and that to which it may attain, and how:

31. It has been indicated that first there must be set in self that which is the basis for its ideal; not as in flesh, not as in attainment, not as in position, power, fame, fortune; but the IDEAL In the spiritual sense. For the Mind is the Builder. And ye are coming into that bright light, white light of thine experience in thine loving service to thy fellow man, that has made, is making for the advancements in thine own material self, in thine own mental self; and a growth in thine own soul-understanding.

32. In those things, then, that deal with not only the better social relations with the fellow man, not only those that make for the comforts and ease for the fellow man, but that which satisfies that inner longing for not only the unseen but to SEE, to know, to experience, that the love of the Father for the created is made manifest in that HIS children do one for another.

33. Ready for questions.

34. (Q) Was there an incarnation in India? (A) The entity sojourned there from the Egyptian; we do not find any sojourn there.

35. (Q) What significance is there in my name, Sarah […] which has always been my inspiration? (A) As there were those activities as Sarah - Sally - that made for the promptings within self to be able to live, and - yea, to die for an idea, an ideal, hence the name becomes as a motivative force in the present experience.

36. (Q) What significance in my bringing up, and am I working out of such conditions correctly now? (A) As may be seen by the various experiences, each soul meets in its sphere of activity that it has created or made for itself. Yet these are being worked out, and - as indicated - a bright light shines about and before the entity.

37. (Q) Am I in the right line of work and can it develop into bigger, more worth while things? (A) In the right line of work, and may develop into that of a columnist - or those things that may be compiled in BOOKS, that will make for inspirational activity in many.

38. (Q) I want to know about the man I love, and how things will work out for us, and how soon. (A) As indicated, he was the companion and associated with the entity in the Roman experience; and it is well.

R1. 5/2/35 [846]‘s letter to EC:

Thursday Night

Dear Mr. Cayce;

Since you told me before I could “Charge” this reading, I will let you have the money as soon as possible, necessarily in partial payments.

Please don’t have this reading typed to send me. And please destroy all my data and correspondence for I do not want it filed for others to see.

It is impossible for me to express adequately my horrible disappointment today in the reading I have waited months to get for one and only one purpose.

I wrote sufficiently in detail for anyone to know exactly what I wanted if anyone had taken the trouble to find out - the data was all there. I said I had two dominant urges since earliest consciousness - the desire for love, marriage, home and children - and the desire to serve through work.

Perhaps, fortunately for my sanity and development, necessity forces me to work for my very existence. Eventually through native ability and instinctive urges, I have found proper expression in the work I am now doing though without proper compensation and adequate recognition. Nothing you described in lives of the remote past (though perhaps intensely inspirational to anyone less sure of those instinctive urges than I am) can add to the intensity of my desire to serve to the best of my ability or to the breadth and scope of the work I am now doing, for already it takes in every phase of human development in as many ways as I can possibly get it over at the present time. Nothing you prophesized added to what I am already doing for you only touched on the future suggesting columnistic writing and perhaps collections in book form for inspirational reading - and I am already doing columns and many have already suggested and requested them to be put in book form.

I have found my place in my work and I am doing that work to the best of my ability and in a worthwhile, commendable way. I have to work for my keep. And being myself with the realizations I have, I cannot give less than my best.

What I needed and wanted most of you was what every normal male and female wants most in this life - the completion of a real love life in marriage, home and children. I wanted to know everything possible about the all consuming love I have for one man now - how to handle the most difficult problem that confronts us - a bondage of fear that cuts him off from me completely - if and when and how this bondage could or would be removed - if and how and when we can be united in love and marriage in the sight of God and man - and if and whether we ever belonged to each other in the past as I always felt we have - and all of this was asked in the letters I wrote you previously.

Yet, when you came to this, you completely closed all communication - and afterwards Miss Davis suggests that “this was the wrong type of reading.”

Well, unfortunately for me, it is just one of those things we have to charge to profit and loss. I had awaited this reading impatiently and anxiously for many months. My disappointment WAS beyond expression. I have put it entirely out of my mind now - since YOU WOULD NOT GIVE ME WHAT I CAME FOR.

R2. 5/6/35 EC’s letter to [846]:

My dear Miss [846]: -

I have yours of the 2nd and note what you have to say. Of course, I did not know what was given in the reading without having it typed. And from your letter, I was anxious to know just what was the cause of your horrible disappointment. Not only was it curiosity on my part but a real sincere desire to know wherein I had failed in trying to be of a service in giving the information.

It may be that I am very much in error, but I am believing that if you will read this over you will find there is a great deal here that you may use to an advantage in your knowing within yourself the answer to the questions you sought. It is true, they may not be answered in detail as you would like; but don’t you think that the reading furnishes a great deal better background to know what the answers to such questions are than if you had not had the reading at all? I do not expect you to contribute anything for a reading that is so disappointing to you. But I am anxious to try to be of a real service to you if it is possible to be done through these channels. I do not know why the questions were not arranged just as you desired them, but I assure you I’ll be very glad to make an appointment - and I will be very glad myself to try and help get the questions together; this I don’t usually do. I prefer not to know what is to be asked at any time.

The information gotten is enclosed. If you wish it destroyed, destroy it yourself. However, I would advise that you read it over carefully, and then if you want to destroy it do so. I believe you will be just as many individuals have been through the years, you will get a great deal more out of it from reading it than you did hearing it. This has been the experience of quite a number of people.

Please understand, Miss [846], I’m not trying to sell you anything. I’m only trying to use whatever may have been given me, not something that I have attained I’m sure, to try to be of a service to my fellow man.

I’ll be very glad to make another appointment for you and try to get what you want, but it would be impossible this week. We could make it any day next week that would suit your convenience. R3. 5/8/35 Wednesday Night [846]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce;

Your letter of the 6th and enclosure received.

Since I was the one most interested, I heard every single word you gave on May 2. The enclosure today cannot possibly convince me that I got anything I came for because it was not there in the first place.

I wrote you in detail what I wanted several times. If you could not have understood fully from my letters - or from just naturally understanding the urgent, innate need of male and female for expression in a love life of their own, then as a psychic in your work you should have been able to get that need subconsciously and to reply to it properly.

I am not just talking a lot of hot air to you. I have to work pretty hard for a bare living and I do it on the highest possible ideals of service - and you know it. So when I ask or demand anything, it is not more than I am constantly trying to give - and am giving myself.

I have to work daily with hard-boiled, materialistic business people in a most matter-of-fact way, selling them ads. Seldom do I make a mistake - for I GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT - PLUS - more than they pay for by contract with the paper - and ALL OF MYSELF I POSSIBLY CAN.

My REAL WORK, the message I send out weekly to help others along their weary way and to inspire them to courage, hope, faith and fresh incentive - for this work I HAVE TO SELL ADS just for the opportunity to GIVE THE REAL WORK AWAY because of the urgent, inner desire to HELP OTHERS as I MYSELF HAVE NEEDED AND RECEIVED HELP. I never give less than my best for I cannot let down my high ideal of service (and nothing you could tell me could make it greater).

We simply don’t speak the same language, that’s all.

First you wrote me you would EXCHANGE COURTESIES but I MUST BELONG TO THE ASSOCIATION BEFORE I COULD GET A READING but you made no effort to lower the costs showing any such exchange of courtesies. What you meant was that I must pay $10 per reading, regardless.

Though $10 was pretty steep for me when I really need so many things to help me out of the material condition I had fallen into because of depression and I really owe a lot of money already - I meant to go through with it because of my all consuming love and my desire to realize it and be well and normal for him.

When I got there it developed that 2 readings were necessary, physical and life - which had not been explained before.

When I at last came for the LIFE reading, the very part I wanted most to know was passed over as casually as if it were of absolutely no consequence - and when I finally convinced Miss Davis that I did not get what I wanted she said, “You should have had a different type of reading.”

How you could have left me like you did last week is more than I can ever understand. I have been there twice and left both times bitterly disappointed. I simply haven’t the time, energy, emotions or money to risk on another such disappointment. Suspense and faith are preferable.

R4. 5/11/35 EC’s letter to [846]:

Dear Miss [846]:-

Thank you for your letter of the 8th. I appreciate very much your feelings in the matter. Of course, there is no necessity for a multiplicity of words if you have made up your mind as to just what this is all about and feel that you have been mistreated or misunderstood. And if you feel that it was only a means of our attempting to make something out of you, there’s not use in our arguing about it. I do want to assure you, however, that such is NOT true. We WANT to help. Possibly our ideas and ideals are a little bit different.

It is impossible for me, as I have found by experience, to talk with people immediately after giving a reading, to any great extent. And some of the experiences I have had where this has been done have been of such a nature that I do not intend, and cannot afford, to jeopardize the help that I may possibly be - and evidently have been to so many - by undertaking such in one or two individual cases. And I hope that I may have the opportunity to explain this fully to you at some time.

I want to assure you again that if it is possible for us to be of a help, we are only too glad to try - and without any monetary expense to you. In the first instance, because of my desire to help, we waived the necessary membership fee which is required by the Association. And the Life Reading, which seems such a disappointment to you, we have not charged to you at all. So, all in all, so far as the expenditure of time and money is concerned, you aren’t as bad off as we are. And we STILL offer to try and help if possible. I don’t know of anything more we can do.

Of course, if you feel that no help can be gained through these sources, then there is nothing more to say. We’ll both have to leave it as a bad bargain and let it go at that. But I would like to talk with you at some length about this. I want to thank you for your article enclosed, and let me remind you “IF YOU THINK IT’S IMPOSSIBLE - IT IS!” THOUSANDS of people HAVE been helped through these sources; why not you? R5. 7/42 GD’s note: “I saw [846] the other day - said she was so happily married (since 9/20/41) - they had remodeled the … house. Some day she wanted to have her husband get a Life Reading, to find out if he was that Roman referred to, that the reading said she should marry - she feels sure he is. She was so very unhappy after her reading, because it didn’t tell her she would be able to marry right away; she just felt she couldn’t wait any longer - but now everything has worked out - they are very happy together.”

The ideals of LOVE & SERVICE are equally predominant since earliest childhood, both intermixed, each including the other.

My WORK IS SERVICE NOW - a service that brings light, awakening, understanding, solace, comfort, new hope and incentive to many people in many places where a cheap daily newspaper slips in with a great message - to people who consciously look for such things, and to people who find it for the first time in this simple, unpretentious way.
