This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of June, 1928, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [849].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. L. B. Cayce and Dr. Thos. B. House.]
Time of Reading 10:40 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Washington, D.C. (Check Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here - this we have had before.
-
Now, in the general physical conditions, these apparently show improvement throughout the system. There are those subtle conditions existent, however, that the body needs be warned concerning, that the eliminations be so organized, so accentuated at and through the proper channels and time, that these conditions may be entirely eliminated, and eradicated, from the system; else we will find in the various portions of system, especially where there is the effect of gland reaction, gland secretion not eliminated or not carried through proper channel, drosses from same that will produce in tissue, in the centers that radiate in the action of locomotion, disturbing elements that will bring distress and strain on the system. [GD’s note: This was certainly a true prediction. See subsequent readings and eventual invalidism with rheumatoid or “static” arthritis.]
-
There needs to be kept also, while these conditions are being brought about, that of the high state of rebuilding in the blood supply, with the various vitamins necessary for proper replenishing and proper vitalization of the system, kept at a high or well balanced state. This, of course, may be done not only by the food or the diet, and the activity of the body mentally and physically, but also by the proper vibrations being kept in the system by the added elemental chemical forces that produce, in the various reactions of same in various organs of the body, that necessary to keep the proper stimulation, so that, as the eliminations are accentuated and are kept going nominally in the body, these will build and act with the various portions of the body in bringing about a normal force for the physical conditions of the body. These, then, we would find in this:
-
First, it would be well that the body - at least once each week - have a good Turkish bath; rubbed down well after same, first with rough salt, then followed with a combination of the Nujol oil one ounce, Witch Hazel one ounce, Olive Oil one ounce, Tincture of Myrrh one-half ounce. This used as a rub, followed with alcohol, see? Do not cut this with the alcohol, but FOLLOW same WITH the alcohol. See? First the salt rub, then the application of this combination of oils for the eliminations and for the various portions of the lymphatic circulation, and then followed with the alcohol rub. This, as we see, will rid the system of these conditions in the joints, in and about the centers from the glands’ secretion, and the whole general eliminations be kept nearer nominal.
-
Well that the conditions that have existed in and through the organs, as have been disturbed, be cleansed occasionally with pure water, using this only as injection. No use of drug or chemical application to same, provided these conditions are kept as have been given for the eliminations.
-
Take THIS as a chemical reaction for the system. Especially does this active principle come with the recuperation of the conditions as have been produced in the genitive system and the whole of the glands about and through this portion of the body. First we would take three (3) ounces of garden sage. Put this in sixteen (16) ounces of distilled or rain water. Reduce by simmering (not boiling) to one-half (1/2) the quantity. Strain. Then add Oil of Juniper one-quarter (1/4) ounce, Sweet Spirits of Nitre (working against each other, but in this combination it will be different in its reaction in system) twenty (20) minims, Rectified Oil of Turp ten (10) minims. Cut three (3) drams Balsam of Tolu in two (2) ounces grain alcohol and add to same. Dissolve one-half (1/2) ounce Rock Candy in hot water and add to same. Not sugar, either beet or the other, but that combination as is necessary with the glucose as is prepared from Rock Candy. Do not beat up same before dissolving, but put it IN the hot water and dissolve, see? Add THIS to solution. Four (4) minims of Oil of Cinnamon.
-
The dose of this (shaken well together) will be teaspoonful twice each day. Very well to eat a little rosin occasionally.
-
Keep the mind well balanced. Keep the physical activities in a nominal condition with the activities of the mental forces of the body. Keep in the open as oft as possible, and out of night air! Do not overtax the body by too much of night study, or night living. When it gets dark GO TO BED! When it gets light get up and go to work - see?
-
The diet will be those as have been outlined, abstaining from meats or butter, but as much of the vegetable forces as possible; especially tomatoes - these are WELL for the body, PROPERLY prepared. The fruit only when well ripened on the vine; not as gathered green and ripened afterward. That that is well ripened, seasoned with salt, pepper, and if vinegar is preferable - or sugar and vinegar - this would be well to use with same. Okra, beets, carrots, and such. These are well for the body. As also spinach. And as an ADDED condition, there may be taken Beef, Iron and Wine in its combination - Wyeth’s preferable.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What rules should be followed as to general health, especially that of the nervous system? (A) Those as we have given.
-
(Q) Should alcoholic beverages be entirely eliminated or indulged in moderately? (A) Sufficient is being applied in that that’s being given.
-
(Q) At what time may violent physical exercise be resumed, and in what quantities? (A) Only after the conditions are eliminated, especially from the extremities and from the joints and from the sinew of the body. Then not violent. GRADUALLY should the body return to the normal physical or gymnastic exercises, that will be well as the system IS corrected.
-
(Q) What specific treatment should be accorded the afflicted members, including the right knee, which is still in a swollen and weakened state? (A) That as has been given; especially as to not getting wet and NOT STAYING OUT AT NIGHT!
-
(Q) At what time approximately will a complete cure be effected, and at what time after that may all treatment and restriction be stopped? (A) If this is followed as has been GIVEN here, thirty to sixty days should find the body almost ENTIRELY RELIEVED and the conditions ERADICATED from the system; yet weaknesses still will appear. THEN may the body return to nearer NORMAL, as has been the life of the physical activities of the body. We are through with this reading.

R1. 6/30/28 [849]‘s ltr. to EC:
My dear Mr. Cayce:-
They are allowing us but one day off from school for the Fourth, and requiring us to go on next Saturday to make up for that day. I had planned to visit you over the Fourth, but with this arrangement I cannot see how I possibly can. You see we move so fast in a summer course that missing two days (which is the minimum I would have to cut) I lose the equivalent of over a week of regular school work, and there is no chance to retrace or catch up. Also, my two courses in the six weeks session start on Monday, and I would have to cut the second and third days of class, which is an even more concentrated course would leave me at sea as to what it was all about. I have read the reading over carefully several times, and I think I understand all its instructions. I tried to get the medicine filled here but found it was illegal for a drugstore to compound such a mixture. I have located a Turkish Bath, but haven’t made an appointment yet, and do not know whether I can get the oil required here or not. The Beef, Iron and Wine Combination I can get of course, and the injections of pure water. I plan to follow the “early to bed and early to rise” rule with the possible exceptions of Sunday and Wednesday, when it is any gentleman’s duty to see his girl friend. I have had a rather good rest, and feel much better; and I look forward with eagerness to following the reading and returning to that now dream paradise of good health.
If it is impossible to proceed correctly with the reading unless I go to the Beach I can leave here Tuesday and return Wednesday night or Thursday morning, but unless this is necessary I would rather postpone my visit until the middle of August, when school will be over and I shall have had the benefit of seven weeks of your treatment. Then I can take my time and revel in the sight of dreams taking concrete form.
I had a letter from [900] yesterday, a very typical one I assume, for as Hugh Lynn promised it was a seven page affair written on both sides, in which he gave me in concentrated form the philosophy he has built up from the various sources he has been exposed to. It was wonderfully interesting, and I am planning when I answer it to take plenty of time in order that my answer will not seem too poor and inefficient beside his remarkable epistle.
I am glad Hugh Lynn is at work, but you must remind him that I have written him two letters without receiving a reply. Allow him to drop his shovel for a few minutes so that I may be reassured that he still leaves out as much punctuation as I put in.
If possible then, since I cannot get them here, will some druggist or other (perhaps our old friend Bill Meredith [William B. Meredith, Meredith Drug Co.]) put these things together and send them to me C.O.D.? I think I have “gotten” the reading, yet if there are doubtful or obscure points I may have missed them, and perhaps need enlightenment. I shall follow instructions to the letter however, and with a faith which will help considerably I know.
I don’t know how to thank you for this, so I shall just believe that you understand how grateful I am, and how anxious I am to see the work which has done so much for me aid others in the same way.
Give my regards to everyone, and tell Hugh Lynn that it really would be “gentlemanly” to write.
Always, [849]
R2. 7/9/28 EC’s ltr. to [849]:
Dear [849]:-
Yours of the 30th received. We have today mailed your medicine to you. We had a time getting it prepared. We had it done in Norfolk, as it would have taken them ten days or two weeks to have gotten it here at the Beach. The cost of it was $3.00. I’ll certainly be glad when we can have these prescriptions prepared in our own laboratory. As you know, the information given in reading takes into consideration everything else it has given; consequently, unless one is familiar with the prescription given, it’s not always easy to get them compounded properly. Think these will work all right. You will notice in both of these that you will have to shake them well together before taken; that is, one is to be taken internally and the other used as a rub. Were these made properly they should combine better than this, if I’m not mistaken, but there’s no reason why they shouldn’t work properly. We will be mighty anxious to hear from you and to know how you get along with taking the treatments as a whole. This rub should be given you by whoever gives you the massage.
We were disappointed that you couldn’t get down on the Fourth, but realize that you are making sacrifices and doing extra work to get through all the sooner. Remember, you are going to have to take care of the physical body. Don’t overtax yourself. Play a little while as well as work a while, for you’ll have to be consistent with everything.
We are certainly having a good big crowd here this season. Thomas and Hugh Lynn are principally piddling, I think. They are not failing to have a good time, as well as do a little work. Their part of the work hasn’t begun yet on the building. No doubt, though, you have heard from Hugh Lynn.
Looks like they are moving slowly on the building, but the work they are doing is necessarily slow at present, on the foundation.
We are keeping pretty busy - a great many requests, and best of all the greater part of them are proving satisfactory.
Let us hear from you whenever you have the opportunity. We are always glad to hear from you. I’m anxious for you to be here when [900] and Mr. [195] come down. I want you to know these men well. I’m sure you and [900], especially, will have a lot in common. Mr. [195] is just as deep a man - possibly really a better educated man than [900], but dosen’t express himself in the same way and manner [900] does. I’m in hopes that when we do get our magazine, we will be able to have something that will be worth while. With kindest personal regards from all,
Sincerely, EC [EC:GD] [Dictated but not read]

Washington, D.C.
My dear Mr. Cayce:-
I received the medicine with your letter, and I thank you sincerely for all the trouble you have undergone. I am now following the reading in all respects, except that is such beastly hot weather there is little chance of getting to sleep early in the “third floor back.” However, I am taking it very easy and if not actually in bed am about the house and relaxing. Whenever I feel the strain of work becoming heavy, i.e., my nerves signal distress, I relax and let things slide a bit. Tuesday I declared a full holiday and took in the baseball games in preference to classes. It acted as a tonic I believe, for I felt better inclined towards study yesterday and to-day.
I believe I told you that [900] had written to me. I have answered his letter and now I am looking forward even more anxiously to meeting him and also Mr. [195]. Hugh Lynn has been informing me of the progress of the work and I expect to see dirt flying and mortar being mixed at a ferocious rate when I get to the Beach.
I really am almost at a standstill except for the class-work I drive myself to do. I have bought many books yet have read but few. Dreams and thoughtful meditation take up my hours of relaxation, and lead me into some wonderful fields of problematical metaphysics. It is all very interesting and
I feel so much better when I can leave the reality of the world behind and roam through the Elysian Fields of hope and wisdom where even the wildest eyed radical of the college classroom would find himself lost and afraid. I have to be very careful lest I sometimes thoughtlessly let slip a phrase which horrifies my quite prosaic and entirely conventional friends. I must remember that I am a young student who is privileged to have wild ideas but who should not be taken seriously. I think it best to hold my tongue and wait until my pen has commended respect ere I dare combat the ancient ideas and customs which daily fall outside the pale of reason in a world of my own where reason becomes what the world is pleased to call most anything from eccentricity to insanity, with degrees according to the width of disagreement between the victim and his judges.
I thank you again for your kindness, and contrary to all the advice of the United States Post Office Dept. enclose in cash the cost of the medicines as stated in your letter.
Give my regards to all and tell your “piddler” to drive every nail true, for they must endure much time and weather.
Always, [849]
