GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [849]; this we have had before.
-
New environs, new surroundings, and as yet not acclimated to same, is causing some undue disturbances to the body.
-
As we find, if there are the proper precautions taken, and the full exercises that have been indicated, the body will soon adjust itself to these variations.
-
There needs to be as much of the massage as is practical to be had. This aids in keeping a better circulation.
-
For the disturbance or discharge in the soft tissue of face and throat, - under the direction of a physician we would have prepared a spray - Ichthyol Spray. Use this in a deVilbis type of spray, once or twice a day. Get rid of the discharge, of course, but don’t strain self in either the throat or the nasal passages.
-
Use this, of course, in addition to the inhalant. While the inhalant will tend to dry, and the spray will tend to soften, these should eliminate the chances of infectious forces by inhalation or the settling of greater disturbances; though we will find that at times the throat as well as the face and antrums and the soft tissue will be inflamed. But these should soon dissipate these disturbances, if the Epsom Salts Packs are used occasionally on portions of the body - through the chest, neck, back, arms, limbs and the like; and the rubs are kept up.
-
Keep up the rest of the applications that have been given for the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) As the massage isn’t so good, could I take as a substitute the Epsom Baths in the tub, say once a week? (A) These may not be taken as a substitute. Of course, the Epsom Baths will be WELL, if it is able to obtain same. But these will not prove a substitute for the massages.
If impractical to have the massages, or when it is impossible to get them, DO have the treatment with the electrically driven vibrator; using both the sponge and the suction or cup applicator, - along the spine and over portions of the limbs and the body. This would be preferable as a substitute for the massages, though use the local packs and the baths when possible and practical.
Take the time when giving the vibrator, to give a good, thorough treatment, - at least every other day, every day if practical.
-
(Q) Any advice regarding diet now? (A) Just keep a well balance, so that the eliminations and all are kept daily.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 12/14/42 “I’ll have to be there in the spring…yes, indeed. I am woozy from this sinus business right now, and [1102] and I both wonder if you can manage, or H. L. can contrive, to get the Icthyol spray for me at the Beach, or through some doctor in Norfolk (maybe an osteopath) and have it sent to me. We don’t know any M.D.s here and you know the difficulty we’d encounter. [1102] is going to get the spray today and get some stuff to put in it, whatever is on the market and comes the closest to what we need, and we’ll try that until we get the Icthyol. Entirely too much blood is coming out to suit me. We have found a vibrator and are using it. I’m heavily acid and we are using the citrocarbonate…despite all of which my legs and feet continue to improve, and I walk each day.”
R2. 1/6/43 “we had to call in the local nose specialist last night, because of my sinus, and that is why you have not been hearing from me: the trouble has been getting worse, and nothing seemed to help it…i have had several letters from h. l. but he did not mention the Icthyol so i thought either he had forgotten it or was unable to get it…my head got so bad i could scarcely see, and the pain, although it was kept down by the cobra venom and aspirin, made me so weak i could not do my walking, and made my stomach sick…the doctor said it came from the ethmoids, the bones around my eyes, and these are very sore to the touch, and i have deep purple circles under both eyes…he gave me a spray containing one of the sulfa drugs [See 849-68, Par. 4] and that is the only reason i am able to write to you today, for i have been too weak even to sign my name for about a week…this is the worst dose i have had of anything other than my main illness…
“do you think another check reading would be helpful… i hate to keep bothering you, but now that i am using a sulfa drug [See 849-68, Par. 4.] i would like to know whether it is doing me any harm elsewhere, as well it might, and ask what to do for the sinus, providing the Ichthyol has been unobtainable…gosh, i have been trying to write those articles but i had to give it up…you’ll have to excuse my failure to use capitals; it is too much of an effort to strike the shift key.”
R3. 1/26/43 See 849-68.
R4. He obtained a Life Rdg. for baby nephew [2922].
