This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 12th day of March, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [855], new Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. […].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 3:00 to 3:20 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, California. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [855].
-
Now, as we find, there is rather the complication of conditions that disturb the better physical functioning of the body. These have involved the organs in such manners as to break down the resistances through the inability of the body, through that assimilated and with the activity of the glands and the secretions as they have been disturbed, to create the resistances necessary. Hence we have some conditions that are rather as constitutional; others we find that are as functional, yet the system is continuing to attempt to create the necessary balance for the carrying on, as it were, of the vital forces or life within the body under the existent conditions.
-
As we will find in making applications, it will be necessary that there be builded or eradicated such conditions so that in building the resistances necessary there may be the required changes and adjustments for bringing near normalcy to the body.
-
This, then, is the disorder as we find that needs the greater correction in the present:
-
The BLOOD SUPPLY indicates a very disturbed circulation, and hindrances in portions of the system where the circulation becomes very low and thus making for disturbances in the superficial activity of the extremities (that is, in the superficial circulation), disturbances in the locomotions of the body; and there is indicated also the lack of the vital forces necessary to build up resistances.
-
The NERVE FORCES of the body are very much disturbed. For there is disturbance between the sympathetic and the cerebrospinal system. These make for, then, disturbances that are both sympathetic - from conditions that arise in the system - and causing other disorders that the sympathetic nervous system takes on; thus bringing those conditions in the affected portions by same as to make for tendencies for not only worriment about self and the anxieties that arise from same but the tendency to take ON much that may be surrounding the body as disorders or disturbances.
-
In the physical functioning of the ORGANS we find, with this disturbance in the blood supply, we have disturbances much in many of the organs; as in throat, bronchi and larynx, that at TIMES only give distress.
-
In the digestive system do we find the greater disorders. While the heart’s action is not regular, it is not an organic condition - rather a sympathetic. In the digestive forces we find there has been that which has prevented the proper assimilations, having those periods when there has been thickening of the walls of the duodenum themselves; regurgitation, those periods when there were the apparent lacerations or disturbances in the digestive system. The sedimentary conditions in the gall duct and the areas of same make for the inability for the proper functioning of the liver as coordinating with the kidneys. Hence we have rises not only of poisons in the system from those as arise from the improper elimination through the kidney activity, but the liver itself.
-
These are the conditions to be combated in the present, and when these have been applied for thirty-six to forty days then we would make suggestions for further corrective forces:
-
We would prepare a tonic as a stimulant for digestive forces, to the applications externally for producing assimilations, combined in this manner:
-
To 1 gallon of rain or distilled water, add:
Wild Cherry Bark…1 ounce, Sarsaparilla Root…1 ounce, Yellow Dock Root…1/2 ounce, Burdock Root…1/2 ounce, Cinchona Bark…1/2 ounce, Buchu Leaves…1 dram, Mandrake Root…1 grain, (Don’t leave this out!) Elder Flower…2 ounces.
Boil this together, preferably in an enamel container with a glass or enamel top. Reduce until there is only 1 quart left. Then strain while warm and add 3 ounces of grain alcohol with 2 drams Balsam of Tolu cut in it. Shake the solution together before the dosage is taken, which would be 1/2 teaspoonful 4 times each day.
-
In the diet, let the foods taken be rather body-building. This would be as an outline:
-
Mornings - cereals or citrus fruits, but do not take these at the same meal. At least two or three times each week we would have the whole wheat cereal, not too thoroughly cooked but cooked sufficient that the vitamins are preserved in same. It may be taken with a little milk, but not too much sugar.
-
In the middle of the morning we would take beef juices; not beef, but the beef JUICE - that may be prepared every three or four days. The quantity would be about a tablespoonful, but taken in very small quantities; that is, little sips at a time a tablespoonful each day should give strength and vitality to the body.
-
Noons - rather the juices of vegetables that are cooked in their OWN juices, or in Patapar paper. These may be combined with a little of the vegetables; or we may alter these to the use of raw green vegetables combined as a salad, including such as cabbage, lettuce, celery, tomatoes, carrots, spinach, peppers, radish, mustard. Any or all of these; not too great a quantity but sufficient to satisfy the appetites.
-
In the middle of the afternoon we would have rather the dry milk, or buttermilk or the like; not in large quantities.
-
Evenings - well-cooked vegetables themselves. Very little meat should be taken; only fowl, lamb or the like.
-
We would have each day also a massage or rub along the whole of the cerebrospinal system, with ingredients combined in this manner:
-
To 6 ounces of Olive Oil as the carrier, add in these proportions:
Oil of Cedar Wood…1 ounce, Oil of Pine Needles…1/2 ounce, Oil of Wintergreen…1/2 ounce, Oil of Sassafras…1 dram, Kerosene Oil…2 ounces.
These will tend to separate, but shake together and only massage the locomotory centers and the spine - or the locomotory centers specifically, as between the shoulders, the 1st and 2nd dorsal, the 4th lumbar and across the hip and the sacral area, what the body will absorb. Do this preferably just before retiring.
-
Do these, then, in this way and manner, and - as we find - in thirty-six to forty days we would give further instructions.
-
We will find there will be localization of some conditions, yet we will find strengthening from those disorders where the inability of the activity and the strength of the body will be aided.
-
Do this. We are through for the present.

R1. 4/29/35 [855]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach Virginia
Dear Mr Cayce
I am sorry it is impossible for me to keep the appointment with you for May 1st. and I wired you to this effect yesterday.
In my communications to you I have not yet informed you of the nature of my trouble, which for six years has been recurring iritus [iritis], and also a rheumatic condition affecting the spine and hips; I have had fifteen attacks of iritus in the last six years, occurring at intervals of six to fourteen months apart, the attacks affecting both eyes, although only one eye would be affected at each attack, each attack confined me to a dark room for from four to five weeks. During these six years I have been treated by seventeen doctors and eye specialists but have had no relief, finally in November of 1934 an attack occurred in my right eye and as soon as that was well, it was followed in January by an attack in the left eye, then in rapid succession by one in the right, and another in the left, and then for the first time in both at the same time.
I have always realized that the iritus, like the rheumatism, is only an outward symptom of an unnatural internal condition, probably infection, but many examinations failed to disclose any such condition, finally during the January attack, an infected tooth was found and removed, but you will note from what I have said above that I have had three attacks since that, although each attack was of much shorter duration than formerly.
On April the fifth I went to Stanford University Hospital and had a complete examination in every particular and they could find absolutely nothing except an occasional slight gallop of the heart, which you seem to have noted also.
Since I have received your reading I have carried out your treatments with the exception of the time I spent at the Hospital, and the rubbing you prescribed for the spine and the hips has almost cleared up the rheumatic condition, and my eyes have been free of iritus since the first of April, but judging from past experiences I may have another attack tomorrow, or I may go a year without further trouble, so I would like you at the next appointment to pay particular attention to my eye conditions. My pupils are irregular due to adhesions but the eye specialist at the Hospital states that outside of this the eyes are normal. My vision is good at present but I would like you to check the findings of the specialist if possible.
Six years ago when my eye trouble first began, the tendons at the back of my heels became very painful, and the bottom of the foot at the heel became so sore that I could hardly bear to put my foot on the ground, walking was very painful, and it was only with the greatest difficulty that I could remove my shoes at night, an X-ray disclosed that ‘spurs’ had grown on the bottom of both heel bones. After about a year I was able to walk quite easily but the tendons are yet very sore, sometimes causing me to limp while walking. I will be glad to know what treatment to apply.
Dating also from the time of my first eye trouble, each morning on awakening I had severe pains between the shoulder blades in the spine, this would disappear after walking around a while. This condition of severe pain has not affected me for about a year, although the spine was still very sore but the treatment you have already suggested has helped that materially.
I had not noticed any bronchial or larynx trouble, that you mentioned but you might be interested to know, that on the day of my last appointment with you my larynx was painted with Iodine to relieve a sore condition I had experienced for some days and which cleared up immediately thereafter.
You might also be interested to know that in January a doctor I consulted suggested that my condition might be due to noncooperation between kidneys and liver, although stool and urine analysis are normal. Your reading pointed out this same condition.
I am continuing your treatments, and will do so until our next appointment.
Your truly, [855]
