This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at 1851 Columbia Road, Washington, D.C., this 11th day of April, 1935, in accordance with request [by telegram] made by the brother, Mr. […], through Study Group #3 of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., via Mrs. [413].

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [886].

2. As we find, the body has been under a great strain not only from repression but from the denial of conditions, circumstances and surroundings with the body. And there has come a separating of the coordination between the sympathetic - or the sensory reaction and the normal physical reaction. Hence we have hallucinations, we have periods when there are those reactions of little or no coordination in the responses to the sensory forces of the body; or there is a mental, or it may be better described as a psychopathic condition and also a pathological reaction from the non-supply of the glandular secretions for keeping a normal balance. Hence, going under this strain, we have had this nervous breakdown.

3. In the present, as we would find, there had best be kept the hypnotics rather than narcotics, to keep the body the more quiet; but this should at all times be under the direction of a physician, see? For there will be the tendencies for the taking of too great a quantity, and the complaining in this or that direction - which will require that there be the greater precautions taken for the time being.

4. We would have a very thorough examination by a gynecologist; for there are conditions there that need local attention, as well as those that will require the rest of the mental and physical body that there may be brought the better conditions for this body.

5. Ready for questions.

6. In two to three weeks, should there be the response, we may give that which will be the more helpful.

7. As we find, the hypnotics - that are preferable to narcotics - should be used.

8. (Q) Would you advise any treatment or diet for the body? (A) As indicated, this must be under the supervision of a physician and care be taken that there is not too much of the properties given - but that all that are given are used properly. This for the present.

9. (Q) What would you advise as the best hypnotic for this body? (A) This should be rather the selection of physician upon the examinations, as indicated.

R1. 7/21/35 GD’s note: Mrs. [413] told us later that the reading was miraculous. The girl had a nervous breakdown and was in a terrible state. On receiving the reading the family took her to Dr. C. J. Andrews [Dr. M. L. Richardson said he was the best gynecologist], who treated her with immediate results. The girl soon returned to her job.

R2. 1/13/36 Mrs. [908] told us that she had heard of the EC work through Mr. and Mrs. […] who told her about the miracle performed on their sister, Miss [886], through the reading which directed them to the proper physician.

R3. 2/1/69 She died in a hospital, after working as a clerk-typist all those years. She outlived her brother who requested the rdg. for her.
