This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at 1851 Columbia Road, Washington, D.C., this 18th day of April, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [898], new Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. […] [693]”s mother.
[Edgar Cayce; Hugh Lynn Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. [898].]
Time of Reading 3:00 to 3:35 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Washington, D.C. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [898].
-
Now, as we find, there are conditions that need correction in the physical forces of the body. Such correction will make for regulation of tendencies in weakened conditions and in disturbances as we find existing in the physical functioning of organs and glands of this body. Without these changes, as we find, such tendencies will allow those conditions to arise that may become destructive to the better physical functioning.
-
Then, these are the conditions as we find them existent in the body-physical, [898] we are speaking of, present in this room.
-
First, we find the BLOOD SUPPLY is below normal in its resistances; for the numbers of the red blood cells are deficient by some two and a half to two hundred and seventy-five million. These make for the lack of resistances in portions of the system, produced - as we shall see - from the lack of gland secretions in the assimilating centers of the body itself.
-
The white blood forces are very changeable. While coagulation goes on very good in most periods, there are times when this prevents the congestions that arise in throat, in bronchi, in lung. For the lack of the balance in the circulation makes for organs that become irritated either through foul air, dust, pollen, or other conditions that irritate the mucous membranes of the breath or the throat so that they become susceptible to the conditions that naturally arise from same, from the inability of the system to supply sufficient of the lymph through the activity of the leucocyte and white blood supply to meet the needs of conditions under such existent forces. Hence these tendencies and the inclinations, as it may be termed, in a body as this, [898] we are speaking of.
-
As to the NERVOUS FORCES of the body, these we find very good in the main. There are some specific centers that show an aggravation, by the detention - as it were - of impulse through ganglia in certain portions of the cerebrospinal system, yet the sympathetic responses to the organs of the sensory forces and to the general physical functioning of the body are very good. Those plexus that show distortion or non-activity are those arising from that which supplies the greater amount of impulse for activity through the lacteal ducts and the organs of assimilation of the secretions in the digestive forces through the liver, pancreas and spleen; or those that arise from the 5th and 6th dorsal plexus area.
-
In the functioning of the ORGANS themselves, we find:
-
Brain forces and their reflexes, as indicated through the sympathetic forces of the body, are very good.
-
The throat, the bronchi, the lungs, the larynx - in the throat and in the soft tissue of the face, as in the antrum and the frontal portion of the antrum even above the eye at times, these make for irritations through the collection or accumulation and the poor circulation through these; especially with not sufficient of the white at times, and with the low vitality of the red blood supply makes for a tendency for distresses and for a filling up and an accumulation - which finds its result in the short breath that is created for the body at times, and those tendencies for the lungs and bronchi to become irritated through these accumulations and these accumulations of tendencies that the body should and must be warned against. For if these are allowed to remain, with the various characters of the bacilli or those from the various affectations that may come from infectious forces as go with such things, they may make for distresses that would be harder to combat.
-
This needs, then, rather that which will tend to make in the area that as will act as an antiseptic, and as a condition that will keep a cleansing through these portions of same in such ways and manners as not to produce irritation to any portion of the system, yet stimulating the activities so the proper quantities of the flow of blood supply are provided to meet and correct such tendencies and such conditions in this body.
-
The heart’s activity, as we find, becomes somewhat irregular at times, owing to those conditions in the circulatory system; making for quite a variation at times in the pressure in the blood supply. Yet this is not an organic condition, rather a sympathetic reaction from those impulses that have arisen and do arise from portions of the body itself.
-
As to the digestive forces, while digestion becomes affected, the secretions are very good as from the first portion of digestion - which begins with the lacteal duct areas, or from the salivary glands that act with the lacteals for the forming, as it were, of a portion of the alkalin forces. However, we find those conditions as to the position of the stomach itself and those activative forces for organs of assimilation are under distress at times; yet their functionings are very good. The alkalins and the acidity for the forces of the body itself are very well balanced at most times. Only when there is undue activity or general strain, so as to cause the improper secretions to some portion of the digestive area, do these make for distresses.
-
That which we find in the assimilating, or where the greater portion of the distress exists, is in the lacteal ducts themselves, or the assimilating center. Hence we find there are periods or times when there is a drawing in the right side, as it were; those tendencies for the caecum reaction with the first activity of the jejunum in the character or the quantity of forces that are assimilated; that makes for a disturbance between the upper and the lower portion of the hepatic circulation. These are the areas from which the impulses arise, and from which there should be a relieving for the body as to make for the better abilities for the whole system to assimilate, or there is a tendency for adhesions and an uneven flow of the white blood supply or the lymph circulation through the lacteal duct center. This also at times makes for those tendencies or weaknesses which go with the pulmonary disorder, as has been indicated, with that of producing an unbalanced condition between the liver and the kidneys in their coordinated functioning; of being able to aid in the supply of sufficient quantities of the juices or the fluids which in their activity through the system, with the bone structural force itself, produce the red blood corpuscle. While that which covers the corpuscle is constructed, to be sure, from those secretions of the liver, from the marrow secretion of the gone [bone], that which is enclosed in same is from those activities of the assimilated forces from the digestive supply of the body itself. This lacking in this supply makes for the general weakness that must be overcome if we would make for a perfect balance in the physical forces of this body.
-
Then, in meeting the needs of the conditions, as we find, if there will be the proper precautions and the proper balance with the necessary influences we may not only relieve the body of those conditions that prevent the activity but make for the resuscitating forces necessary to produce a proper balance in the equilibriums of the system. Thus we may have a very strong, a very muscular body, that will overcome many of those tendencies and make for a normal reaction through the mental, through the spiritual and through the physical forces of this body.
-
So, first we would begin with the applications of the heavy Castor Oil packs over the caecum and the liver and the gall duct area, about three to four times each week. At each application let the packs remain on for an hour, keeping the heat applied to same either with salt packs or an electric pad. Let the body lie prone, and after the packs are applied, sponge off the body with a little soda water.
-
Then IMMEDIATELY after each period of the packs, apply the violet ray over the liver, the lacteal duct, the gall duct area and down to the caecum area. Do this immediately after each hour of application of the packs, and only after the applications - about three or four times each week.
-
We would be very mindful, then, of the exercise. This should be taken very specifically, very regularly. Not as rote but as a portion of that necessary to create the proper balance in the body. Of mornings for five to fifteen minutes, gradually increasing it - do not begin with too great a period, and in the evening just before retiring; begin with first the general setting-up exercise. Have the body plenty WARM, but with as much fresh air as possible coming in, just so as not to cause any disturbance or chill for the body, see? Gradually increase these exercises into the circular motions of the body, to those where the body will stand - as it were - on the shoulders and move the limbs - as pedaling the bicycle; bending and touching the floor, as the circular motions from the diaphragm area up, touching the floor from side to side, but making for a general regular routine of this from five to fifteen minutes night and morning, or upon arising and just before retiring, so that we tire the body somewhat. Not straining, no - but the general exercises.
-
Then for the diets, be very mindful of same. The only thing we would take that would appear as medicinal properties would be the Ventriculin - WITH iron - once a week. Do not take the full dose as indicated on the bottle, at first, but about a quarter of same. Gradually increase same. About once each week take the full dose of the liver extracts, preferably that prepared by Valentine’s, see?
-
We would suggest an outline for the diet, but this does not mean these are the ONLY things that may be eaten - but this as a general outline:
-
Mornings - citrus fruit juices. Do not eat oatmeal or cooked cereals or raw cereals at the same meal that citrus fruit juices are taken. When cereals are taken, change between the whole cracked wheat or wheat and barley (as in Maltex), or the other cereals. We may also include a coddled egg, but use only the yolk of same.
-
In the middle of the morning, between breakfast and lunch, we would take a malted milk with a raw egg in same; not the white, only the yolk of same. This we would drink in the middle of the morning.
-
Noons - vegetable juices would be preferable to raw vegetables. Meat juices, but not that which carries great quantities of grease in same. Let the greases be taken in vegetable oils, as olive oil, as butter or the like; and this should be taken with the brown bread - but do not take the brown bread without it being toasted, at ANY time, for this particular body.
-
In the middle of the afternoon we would have the raw milk, that has been sterilized - to be sure; but have in same a few drops of Spirits Frumenti; or a teaspoonful to a glass of milk.
-
Evenings - about an hour or so before the dinner, drink a small glass of red wine with brown bread or black bread or rye bread; nothing else with same. Do not eat cake or sweetmeats with same - a small glass, and only one.
-
The evening meal should consist of the vegetables, especially such as red cabbage, rutabaga, spinach, mustard, all the leafy vegetables and all the bulbular nature save the white potatoes; not the pulp of same but the jackets and the skin close to the jackets should be the better portion when these are taken, rather than the pulp of same. In the meats have those especially, whenever possible, of wild game, or of fowl, or of fish, or of lamb; and about once a week a good raw steak, not oftener. No other red meats. No hog meats of any kind should ever be taken unless it is very crisp bacon. Occasionally broiled liver, tripe, pigs’ feet may be taken in small quantities, but once a weak should be sufficient for these.
-
Keep these consistently, persistently; we will gain weight, we will put off this dullness, this tendency for catching cold, this weakness throughout the whole system; and bring the body - in six to eight months - to its normal weight, of about a hundred and fifty pounds.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is the skeleton or frame work of my body in good condition? (A) Very good save as indicated in that plexus or area. We wouldn’t have any manipulations or adjustments for these at present. The activities of the body, as for the exercise, should tend to heal these conditions.
-
(Q) Are the muscles in my body normal or is there something out of order with them? (A) Lack of the vital strength necessary. Nothing out of order.
-
(Q) Are my sexual organs normal? (A) Will be very good, especially when the balance is created in the physical forces of the body.
Do these things, as we have indicated, keeping the mind mentally in a constructive way and manner; making for those things especially as may be had in knowing these things may be found specifically in the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th chapters of John. Do not learn them as rote. Learn them as applying to self, as applying to those influences. For only the life forces from the food values, as may be taken; only those applications bring the active principles which are spoken of in those verses given there. For it is in Him that ye live and move and have thy being.
- We are through for the present.

(See directions [which were enclosed] for preparing Castor Oil packs, but apply in manner indicated in reading. Ventriculin - be sure to specify WITH IRON - is manufactured by Parke, Davis & Co. and sold by most drug stores. Get violet ray at drug store, also, with bulb applicator. If everything is not clear, let us know. GD.)

Reports & Follow-up

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I am going to try and give you a report on developments so far. I feel confident that the treatment and diet you have given me will do me some good and that I will come up to normal weight. I have wanted for a long time and still want to bring my weight up to normal. I want to be able to feel strong and full of pep and do away with that tired feeling. When I came to you I was determine to carry out what ever you told me to and I have carried it out to the “T”. I made a chart and on it I keep a record of every thing I eat and everything pertaining to the course of treatment you have given me. I have the chart before me now and I can readily see that I have carried out the exercises night and morning. I have taken the Ventriculin and Liver Extracts regularly. I have carried out the Oil Pack treatments along with the violet ray. I have taken the malted milk with Raw yolk of an egg every morning. I have taken a pint of raw milk with the spirits frumenti every afternoon and I have taken the glass of wine every afternoon about five o’clock.
For Breakfast I have had - Shredded Wheat, Pep, Maltex, Chemm, toast, Coddled egg (yolk only), coffee and the following juices: Grapefruit, lemon, pineapple and orange. I divided these up and had them at different times.
For Lunch I have been taking the following vegetable juices: asparagus, tomato, mustard green, spinach, carrot, cabbage, pea and beet. Also vegetable soup. I have been taking the above vegetable juices (the water off of these cooked vegetables) up until last week. The dining room in the Commerce Bldg., has been very good to me and helped me carry out my diet for lunch time. But the weather is getting warmer and they are not cooking many vegetables. Most of their dishes are of all kinds of raw vegetables. About the only vegetable they cook is potatoes and, I can’t eat those. They do cook one green besides potatoes and I get the juice from it and an order of the cold raw vegetables. That is I have been getting the raw vegetables the past week.
The Wine really has given me an appetite. You should see me put away my dinner. My dinners have consisted of the following: Spinach, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, cabbage, beets, turnip greens, peas, rhubarb, lima beans, turnips, spring onions, string beans, broiled steak, chicken, fish, strawberries, blackberries, whole wheat bread and sometimes coffee or milk.
I drink coffee once in a while and I smoke cigarettes.
NOW, I think I have given you all the detailed information I can possibly think of. What do you suggest? I have not gained even one ounce. When I started this treatment with you I weighed 113 and 1/8th pounds (clothes on) and 106 and 3/8ths pounds (clothes off) and I still weigh the same. If I am to weigh 150 pounds in six to eight months I sure will have to put a lot of weight on in a hurry. If I am to weigh 150 pounds by the end of December (8 months) I will have to put on weight at approximately a pound and a half a week.
It cost me about
30.00 to get started on this treatment and it is costing me a great deal per month to keep the treatment up. You see I get the malted milk with the yolk of an egg but without the ice cream for 15 cents. My raw milk is costing me 18 cents a quart. My lunch is 30 cents. Then with the cost of the spirits frumenti, the wine, the [[Ventriculin|Ventriculin]], the Liver Extracts and the [[Castor Oil|Castor Oil]] figured in proportionally it is costing me about22.45 a month. That doesn’t include the extra food and fruit juices. So you see I naturally feel like I should see at least a little sign of improvement. As I said before I feel sure I will get results from this treatment and I feel sure you will help me. After reading this letter do you have any new suggestions, any changes or additions to my present routine? Don’t YOU think I should have gained at least a half a pound instead of sticking right on the same weight but I have had for at least a year? I feel sure you will help me and I will be waiting for an immediate reply from you.I was unable to send this months contribution on the first of the month but will send it the fifteenth.
Hoping I will hear from you right away, I remain,
Sincerely your friend, [898]
R2. 6/12/35 EC’s letter:
Thank you very much for yours of the 10th, giving the detailed report as to your condition and the treatments.
As the weather changes, I’m sure you will find it much better to use the fresh green raw vegetables in the middle of the day, rather than the juices or soups of same. The rest of the diet as you outline, I feel should be continued and adhered to rather closely.
Yes, it does appear that there would be some gain in weight; but remember, while you are somewhat the slower way for making the corrections it is much more sure, and when your system has adjusted itself to the new conditions then normalcy will begin to assert itself. It is not surprising that you have not begun to put on weight when we consider that the disturbance has been in the assimilating system and the character of elements that have been carried in the body. Now doing it nature’s way is a natural slow growth, and a sure growth. Don’t you think that is a reasonable way to look at it?
If you would like, in two or three weeks, without any extra expense to you, we would be very glad to check up on the condition through a Check Reading and see if everything is going as it should, and to see if anything further might be suggested for you. It may be that we will come to Washington again after our Congress, and you could hear the information given. But know we will be glad to do it, whether there or at long distance.
I hope you have found that your diet has agreed with you. I appreciate very much your detailed report.
Let me hear from you again from time to time. And with kindest personal regards, I am

Association for Research & Enlightenment, Virginia Beach, Virginia Mr. Edgar Cayce
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Would like to let you know how I am getting along. I haven’t gained any weight, but since I have been on the diet you gave me I haven’t had one minute of stomach trouble. I use to have pains in my stomach most any time and now I never have any. My appetite is much better in spite of the hot weather.
In general I feel much better since I have followed your treatments, but I still can’t understand why I get so tired if I do a little more in a day than I ordinarily would. For example: If I come home from work and between dinner and bed time I paint a couple of hours on some furniture I am dead tired when I get up the next morning. Or if I go out driving for awhile in the evening I get tired. I get up in the mornings between 6:30 and 7:00 and I get to bed at night before 11:00. I get eight hours of sleep but I am still tired. It seems like I need more than eight hours sleep. I have had a number of doctors tell me that I have a nervous energy and I use up all the food qualities, I take into my body, for energy. That might be more or less true for I do have to be doing something all the time.
In your letter of June 12, 1935 you said if I would like to have a Check Reading you would be very glad to give me one without any extra expense to me. I certainly would appreciate it very much if you would.
It it will be agreeable with you I will be - on Monday, August 5, 1935, in the … Bldg., … Ave., N.W., Room …, Washington, D.C. at 3:00 P.M. If this does not suit you kindly let me know when you can give me the reading.
Hoping to hear from you real soon, I remain,
Sincerely your friend,
P.S. Inclose find my contribution for the month of August.
