This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of January, 1926, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [900].

Time of Reading 10:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City, N.Y.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [900], of Apt. …, … St., N.Y. City, and the dreams this body had on the dates which I will give you. You will give the interpretation and lesson to be gained from same, as I read same to you, and you will answer the questions which I will ask you regarding these.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [900], with the dreams that have come to the body from time to time. Ready for dreams.

3. (Q) Monday Night, Jan. 11, 1926, while reading. Saw the number 90 - seemed to refer to running up of some stock or stocks of this. (A) This, as we see, is as of the mental forces of the body again coming in that way and manner of how that that which is first and foremost in the mental forces is weighed in the subconscious for the consideration of the conscious or body-mind. Then the numbers and the action as referring to stocks, shows to the entity as how the mental forces are being turned again, and as 9 - 0 represents to the mind that that as is necessary will be given to the entity for the entity’s consideration in regards to stocks, and is not any particular stock at the present time, see?

4. (Q) Reference to [136] in number 42. (A) This, as we see, again the mental mind weighing with the subconscious those forces of information as given regarding number. As 4 - 2 makes that of the 6, 6 then representing that condition as has been given to the body-mind as the individual as seen, see? That is, that 6 represents that position of the entity, [136]. Were the entity to gain that import of numbers or of numerical valuations of numbers, then the change would be to that even as of 7 or to 9, which is the full number of the individual, [136], see? That is, with the more perfect understanding of the laws as relate to self, to the phenomenized forces as are manifest in the physical world as related to self, related to others, related to the indication of conditions in the life, then the change would be to that as of that in 9. In the position as occupied at present is that of 4 - 2, or 6.

5. (Q) Monday Night, Jan. 11, or Tuesday Morning, Jan. 12. Some stock went up to 37 3/4 - then to 40. Willie Lauer phoned up to me that the stock was 39 3/4 bid offered at 40 and he said it was in our favor. “In our favor?” I repeated. “Then sell 100 shares at 40.” He put the order in, stock sold there and we sold our stock at 40 - a nice profit. (A) Again those same elements and conditions as have been given, as to how the mental forces of the entity and individual are turning into those channels in which these presentations of stocks, stocks’ action, stocks’ quotation, stocks assistance to the individual in the financial way, are being presented to the entity for the entity’s consideration, and as is seen in these, these do not represent names of individual stocks but of CONDITIONS that are ready and that will be presented to the individual from time to time, for as is seen, specific names of HOW this action is taking place is seen and recognized, see? Then, specific stocks and their action will be given to the entity, see? Then prepare self for reception of same, using same in the way and manner this is given for entity to use.

6. (Q) Night of Sunday, Jan. 10, while reading Papini’s Life of Christ. Now I read in this book Christ’s pity for the rich, (as I am not rich this didn’t bother me) but his condemnation and hatred for bankers, and men who deal in money or use money as a commodity instead of engaging in a more productive or useful industry. That hit home and I have raised the same question myself when I asked “Suppose Christ had entered a brokerage concern (if one existed), instead of the shoemaking business - would it have made any difference?” The answer in my mind has always been “No” - the temptations of the flesh are the same - only through knowledge and understanding may we gain a consciousness of the Spiritual Purpose and until this consciousness is gained the type of business, etc., is of little consequence. But Papini’s radical statements worried me so I turned in prayer to my Father and asked for clarification of his version of the Christ life as it pertains to ours to-day - to mine. The answer came clear and sure in the Voice: “MODIFY IT.” (A) In this there is presented to this entity those conditions that must be studied well, and the answer in same must ever come from within. As is seen in that as was read by the entity, THAT MAN’S concept of conditions presented by the Master. In the reason of self concerning same, there is felt self-condemnation on account of the conditions under which self labors. In the answer as is heard in prayer, the entity finds that answer for self, in that not that conditions are turned in the way to meet and to explain away self’s position, but knowing that, as has been given, “All force is of one force.” Right is as Right in the broker’s office as in the fisher’s net, or the reaper or sower, and that as is given, the action of the individual is the application of the truths as are seen and known of that entity, see?

7. (Q) As I understand this modify Papini’s version to my own - as above stated - which is correct? (A) Modify Papini’s statement to own version, without turning self in the position of simply turning a statement to fit an individual case, see?

8. (Q) As I remember my impression at the time, the following referred to Mrs. [139], my mother-in-law - altho it may have included [136], my wife also. I can’t remember, but the words or voice was as follows: “She is getting well as fast as you are -” or it may have been “She is getting well as fast as you will let her.” (A) This, as we see, is as this: In this there is seen, for the entity’s study and consideration, that as the entity gains the power of applying the truths as have been gained by the entity, then so the assistance may be given to others to GAIN their equilibrium in an understanding and an application of the truths given.

Dear Edgar:-

Trust everything is working out well with you. I surely hope soon to have my manuscript in your hands. As given in a dream interpretation, this is the child of my mind - a beloved child that I give to the world in the name of the Master whom I serve, and which brings me the inner exaltation you told of in the introduction of a recent reading. I know this child is doomed to suffer, for while bringing a message of hope immortal, of light eternal, to the sensuous laden mind and anxious heart, it will be subject to criticism, sarcasm and condemnation of many. If I ever had any idea of being acclaimed an intellectual light, I have long since given it up. To the depressed, to the poor, to the suffering, to the hopeless, to those sunken in the mud of sin and despair, to the sick I’ll carry the child and let it bring comfort, hope, and love. To those who surround themselves with the fence of their own intellectual pursuits, with the pride of their own intellectual position, who prefer the false cheers of the masses to the gratitude of the hearts of Men, to those who engulf themselves in material achievements and rely alone upon the gold of princes, to those who can or choose to see no further than the pregnant moment, will my child be as hateful and repellent as was the Gospel of Christ to the Scribes, Priests, members of the Sanhedrin, to the wealthy, aristocracy, and middle class money seekers, and to the spineless hangers on to all of those who were ashamed to acknowledge the Truth because of the latter’s peculiar appearance in physical eyes. These live in our day under different names, as they did in Christ’s day. Would ye be a fisher of dollars? Then fulfill the physical desires for wealth, fame and fortune, and gain the envy, hatred and false friendship, the licking of boots, but heart felt antagonism of those who worship thy wealth, but hate thee for it, rejoice at thy misfortunes, laugh at thy troubles, and give thee not one heart felt word of love. No wonder those who rely upon riches for happiness are in their hearts hungry for one real sincere friend that loves for self and not for that possessed. No wonder the rich man feels himself really a failure. But to be a Fisher of Men - that is different. That is to find the people of burden and lift it from their shoulders by assuming that burden oneself. Not by paying their debts in cash, but by giving them a knowledge of the real hope, real love, and showing them the way that leads to real happiness and then watch his heart, respond. Watch him pray to the Father for and with you, watch him acknowledge you, follow you, bless you, and if he can’t acclaim you before the multitude, if he can’t acclaim you in newspapers, etc., he can give you his heart’s love and an undying affection, that makes you One with Christ - God. Try and convince Mrs. [139] I didn’t have a hand in her healing. I told her its her own faith in her divine self that did it and she answered me: “I have faith in you too [900],” and when after watching the clock all day, awaiting my coming, she greets me with, “I love you

• God bless you,” I know it comes from the heart and it seems as though she is kneeling and praying at the same time. I worship her faith and as I talk to her, and I see the seed take root as she replies: “I never knew so much about myself - or that God was so close to me,” I know the Spirit Father has answered my prayers and I begin to feel the grandeur and power of a kingdom of Love and devotion, before which my physical mind quakes, before which the Physical I seem small and not stable. They tell me this is superstition, the outgrowth of an intellectual mind. The latter, the Scribes and Sanhedrin told to our Master. The former is the reaction of the many who misunderstood the gospel and misapplied its teachings. Yet it all was predicted by Christ - the wars, the suffering terrible deeds committed in His name - all the evolutionary process of Man’s becoming conscious of the correct meaning of the Gospel. It can’t be learned by any other method than Spiritual Evolution. “There be Eunuchs born who, etc.” so lives on Earth babies with a greater consciousness of real life than 70 year old men - the spiritual Evolution of the Soul manifesting its evolution in physical form, passing through all these stages in human history and to-day on earth we are still evolving some nearer, some farther from the goal - the world in general nearer to expressing the correct physical concept, yet the materialists going through that material stage necessary to their own development, just as may passed through the fanatical stages. Many who evolved through the latter are now passing through the material stage and will return to find or be allowed to manifest their development to a knowledge of the Truth. But how shall we know when we have arrived at the Truth and are expressing a real or truthful concept of the gospel. “Ye shall heal the sick, raise the dead ad perform deeds in my Name, that all may know that I am the Lord.”

There has come to me the first evidence that I am on the right track, and so you see if you have healed where the doctor has failed, you are performing as Christ did, and all the sacrifice you have made in earthly comfort is little in the light of the blessing you are bringing on your own head. The glory of your life may also rest in the knowledge of the wife you healed and that she, because she is your wife, and your children because they are your children, and I because through your services came I to open my eyes and because many will have through you the same experience, because all of us about you have willingly shared in sacrificing physical achievement for spiritual gain, because we have joined in serving and there found resurrection of ourselves, rather than in seeking the material glory of mammon, and for this that we serve in His Name do we reap the blessings of the Father and shall be glorified even as all about the Master, as well as the Master, have been glorified.

If you think these are words, if you think these are not so

• if this does not give you and yours every inspiration to perform the glorious God like work you are doing, in spite of all difficulties, then I tell you my words are True, and that which I write shall be. The whole thing seems to unfold before my eyes and the clearer concept I gain of Christ, the closer I come to “myself”.

So my child shall not grow into the hearts and minds of Men

• not become respected and recognized by men until the next generation, for even this I gained in vision. The next generation shall study my child and take it seriously. Yet God has always chosen to manifest His Truths in this manner. None of His servants ever gave great Truths to the world that were recognized at the time of giving. History proves this and of course I don’t put myself in the class of the great philosophers of old, (Confucius, Plato, Socrates, Pythagoras, Bruno, Pliny, Spinoza, Moses, Daniel, Ezekiel, Paul, Matthew, etc., etc., and the mighty Master of all whom these had heralded, Jesus Christ), but if in my little way I can show people what these men meant, using terms to-day to do so, and know I am on the right track by applying the best the Master gave us to apply - then I need not be great as they, for truly thee is but One Greatness which is God - and there lies our Destiny.

So, the child of my mind, brought through His Grace to the World (the first edition of it I mean) will soon be in your hands and may God speed whatever message it may contain into the fertile soil of the hearts and minds of the faithful, and may He bless you and yours, for, through your guidance alone was I able to be the means of this child’s creation.

As for your letters of the 16th and 17th, I do not know how to answer them, [900], but I am sure, from these, you do understand WHY the experiences that have come to me from people thanking me for their physical health, and their spiritual understanding of themselves, has meant much more to me than dollars and cents, and you know WHY I have (at least since I have been studying the phenomena seriously) been wanting to give myself to the service of others. I can only say, I thank you for expressing this as you have, and I am sure that your message, this child of your brain, though it may meet many oppositions, yet it will clarify the religious thought of the WORLD, and be the leaven that will gradually work in the hearts of men and women for many ages to come! May you keep your health and your physical strength, may you keep yourself on that even keel; not becoming one-sided or lop-sided in any way, manner or form, but here a little, then there a little, giving out that as the Spirit gives you utterance, and future generations will call you blessed! And not in tablets of silver, nor in piles of stones, but in the hearts of men and women will your memory, your service to mankind, be the monument of the efforts, of the sacrifice, you expend in this physical plane.

Yes, I am sure the data we have gathered, and are gathering from day to day, will sometime find a place, for if it is the Lord’s work, and IT IS, it is bound to find its place in the hearts and lives of His representatives, Man, here on this physical plane.

I certainly hope the folks are all getting along fine and that you are feeling good. I’m certainly anxious to see the copy of the data you are preparing. You know I will get at this as soon as possible, for I’m bound to feel that this will mean much to many peoples.
