This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of March, 1936, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [967], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., also by her husband, Dr. [961].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:25 to 11:45 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [967].
-
As we find, there is rather a complication of disturbances. Some may be classified as of a psychological nature, but the greater portion - to be sure - is a complication in the pathology of the physical functionings.
-
For with the lack of the proper balance in the chemical forces of the body, and with the unbalancing in the eliminations of the system, disturbing conditions have gradually been builded in ALL forces of the eliminating system. And added to this there is a functional disturbance arising from the unbalancing, producing those tendencies for accumulations or separations in those forms in a portion of the pelvic reactions and pelvic organs, with a disturbance in the LYMPH of the system in the form of plethora. Not in excess, as yet.
-
But the disturbing conditions in the extremities, in the nerve forces, and those feelings that come of being generally depleted; the heaviness and the tiredness, the nausea and all; these arise from this manner and form of disturbance in this body.
-
As to the manner in which the BLOOD SUPPLY is affected, we find that there are tendencies for eliminations to be distorted in their manner of expression. Or those that should be carried in some portions are making for distresses in other portions of the eliminations. And the pressures from same upon the system, as its relation to locomotion at times, give distresses.
-
These make for distresses in the NERVE FORCES as well as in those reactions between the sympathetic AND the cerebrospinal systems.
-
Then, in making for those conditions that would assist in correcting these disturbances in the present, we find:
-
These might be materially aided in this way and manner:
-
First, we would take a course of Atomidine; one minim (drop) in half a glass of water before the morning meal, for five days. This will have an effect upon the GLANDULAR reactions in the system.
-
Then, after such a preparation (the five days of taking the Atomidine), begin with Osteopathic manipulations in the upper dorsal and the lumbar area, to aid in eliminations. These treatments would be given two or three times each week, for about a month - which should be sufficient.
-
Still, after the eliminations are begun by the activity of drainages being set up by the manipulations osteopathically, we find it would be well to DRAIN the activities through the liver, the spleen and pancreas area, with those influences that may be had in the compound known as Zilatone. But do not take same in the manner as it is presented, but rather in this manner:
-
Every afternoon or evening for three days, take each day two tablets; drinking quantities of water - before and after - all during the day these properties are taken. Thus the flow may be acted upon through the lymph circulation, so that as drainages are set up by the osteopathic stimuli to the ganglia along the cerebrospinal system, the activity of the FUNCTIONING ORGANS THEMSELVES may coordinate in carrying through the eliminating of the alimentary canal those forces that have made for the disturbing factors.
-
Then rest from taking the Zilatone Tablets for two weeks. Then repeat the dose; that is, the two Zilatone Tablets each day for three days only.
-
Then, after a month of taking such Osteopathic adjustments, it would be well to have three or four more periods of taking the Atomidine as indicated - with leaving same off a week between each period of taking same. Thus the activities of same may be had through the system.
-
The diet should be kept towards those things that are of the alkaline-reacting nature; or a diet wherein vegetables, fruits and nuts form the greater part of same. Not too much meats of any character, though fish or fowl may be occasionally taken.
-
Citrus fruit juices should form the greater portion of the morning meals, as should the RAW vegetables the noon meals; while the fruits, cooked or prepared vegetables or the other activities for the system should furnish the evening meals. Nuts, especially almonds, filberts and the like, should form the greater portion of the oils or fats for the body.
-
Do these and we would bring the better reactions for this body, [967].
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 3/17/36 EC’S letter:
I do hope that the suggestions made for you in the reading will be as helpful to you as so many others testify that theirs have been to them.
Know that we feel a personal interest and will be very glad to have your reaction to the information, no matter whether or not it coincides with what you personally feel. Many have found that even when the reading apparently was at variance to the condition, when followed the results were forthcoming as promised. We all recognize that results are the proof, irrespective of what we may feel or be told. And it is on the results individuals have received through the years that we base our activity.
I appreciate your interest, and trust we may have the privilege of seeing you and Dr. [961] when we are in New York.
With kind personal regards to you both from all here, I am
Sincerely,

R2. 3/29/36 Ltr. from [967]:
Dear Mr. Cayce -
I have been trying to get a chance to write you concerning your reading for me, but since I am doing some outside work in the … and am busy there daily, from 9:AM to 6:PM, - and my reserve energy is so low that I find I must retire as early as I possibly can - well it is only at week ends that I ever get any chance to do anything else. So I trust you will pardon this delay?
I will be perfectly frank, as you request about your reading. While much of it was apt and appropriate, I was a bit surprised and distressed that my main difficulty (as I see it) was not touched upon, at least not directly, by you.
Since last December I have been having thrice weekly treatments of adjustments of my spine and manipulations of that and the abdominal region. An X-ray taken at that time shows very definite displacement of certain vertebra, especially of three in my neck (very much out of line, and one rotated) and while the treatments I have taken have certainly relieved me greatly and kept me able to keep working I can not seem to make DECIDED progress toward a complete recovery.
An increasingly painful condition of my left hip and stiffness and pain in the neck (so bad when I tried to lie down at night that I could not lie in any position except flat on my back) sent me for the examination. I have been working hard with Dr. Guerth [[…] Guerth, D.O.?], trying to get really recovered for over three months now. The pressure against the base of my skull has been the main torture with continuous headaches for weeks on end. I have used olive oil rubs and “Absorbine Jr.” to reduce inflammation, also an electric pad at bed time. No drugs or medicine of any kind, and a light diet, as always.
The history of this trouble SEEMS to date back to a ten year old injury acquired when I did a back dive from a floating raft which had swung away from deep water to shallow, - only a sandy bottom saved me from a “broken neck” I’m sure - as I landed with great force, squarely on the top of my head. An X-ray at the time was reported as showing no fractured bones
- but Dr. Guerth figures that the cartilages were torn and now do not properly protect or hold the bones in place when they are adjusted. So they keep slipping out and I have the consequent soreness and tension. On several occasions I have had complete freedom for three or four days running but I then have a very difficult period to follow. It is most discouraging, indeed.
Now as to the points mentioned in your reading - taken in the order given in your letter.
There HAVE BEEN psychological disturbances due to the strain of worry over new work, finances, an adjustment to long hours of intensive work, early rising hours, etc.
Therefore I expect chemical-unbalance would follow inevitably.
The heaviness, and depleted feeling especially in the extremities as you mention also exists, as does some slight degree of nausea at times. Not now as much as formerly (the nausea), however. There has never SEEMED any difficulty with the elimination system, tho different hours and obligations have interfered to some extent with an entirely free condition for eliminative functions.
The disturbances in Nerve forces, involving sympathetic and cerebrospinal systems, are certainly present as I have indicated. But the degree of these pressures and tensions seem to far exceed any emphasis placed upon them by your reading.
Now as to your treatment suggestions - I have followed as directed, have finished the first course of Atomidine - for five days - and now start the Zilatone for the first three days period. Since I have been having the thrice weekly manipulations for some months past, these are already provided for and will be continued.
An attempt has been made to build up the muscle and cartilage materials, and strengthen same, that they may be able to hold the displaced vertebrae in place when adjustments are made. All these treatments have been given without charge as Dr. Guerth is ardently interested in spiritual work and wants to get me back to normal as speedily as possible.
A Dr. Hartung [Edw. F. Hartung, M.D.?] N.Y.C. tel. book ‘59
- may not be the one. GD], specialist in diagnosis, claims after an examination of everything except X-rays, that I have an active degree of arthritis and wanted to give me injections at the clinic which I have refused. So instead, he proposed some abdominal exercises to correct bad posture - and a diet, which I was quite completely following before - except for quantities of milk, cheese and eggs - mine being more of fruit, vegetables and salads.
I think there MAY BE a bit of rheumatic trouble, as joints in my toes, knees and shoulders often “click” and feel troublesome. Having seen people completely CRIPPLED with arthritis - and being unable to pay for medicines or expensive cures, I AM A BIT WORRIED, and discouraged that the treatments so far have only just kept me from complete distress, but have not seemed to bring a cure. The heaviest and dragging of my lower limbs is especially unpleasant and noticeable to me. My skull is so sensitive and sore at times, that I can scarcely bear to touch it, or even comb my hair.
Certain nerve exhausting difficulties - jammed subway travel, personal difficulties with the office and editorial workers under my jurisdiction etc., etc., have RETARDED my recovery I am sure. Bending over a desk all day has not improved my posture or the spinal position necessary to keep the vertebrae in place.
Being the bread winner of the family (with a son to be educated somehow) for the present, have made it impossible for me to give my health problems FIRST attention. I have had to fight the battle on ALL FRONTS AT ONCE and the same time, - it seems to me. I have pleaded with “the powers that be” to help me, and tho discouraged, am not giving up the battle, but still struggling along as best I know how.
I have faith that your treatment will help me and so am proceeding on that basis. I trust this letter is not too disconnected and that you will accept my sincere thanks for your efforts and interest in my direction.
Sincerely, [967]
R3. 4/1/36 EC’s ltr. to [967]:
Dear Mrs. [967]
Thanks very much for your report of the 29th, do hope you will soon be seeing some definite improvements, that will be of a permanent nature. So many Mrs. [967], have found it very worthwhile to follow these up from time to time, and know we will be glad to do this for you at any time. Of course, your not being able to give a lot of time to the definite purpose to get rid of the whole thing, makes it harder, and as so many have said through the years that is one thing the Information appears to take into consideration; i.e.: the conditions under which one has to apply the suggestion made. So, if we can help, would be very glad for you to have definite questions to have asked at such a reading. Or, we may be in N.Y. next week. We might see you and arrange so as you could be present, and hear the questions asked and could better determine what you would like to know.
Am sure you will be interested to know that two of the Universities are making first hand studies of the work here, keeping a man [Lucien H. Warner, Ph.D] here for the next two years to study and to follow up on so many things and tests. Like the man very well so far, and not too far.
Be sure and let us hear, should you feel it worth following farther along, and will be glad to do so at any time.
With kindest personal regards to you and the Dr.,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
