This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of August, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - through his mother, Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Miss [805].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading Set Bet. 3:00 to 4:00 4:20 to 4:35 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [970]. (Quite an interesting article he’s been discussing!)
-
Now, as we find, there are disturbances in the physical forces of the body. These are of the nature as to disturb the glands of the system, in such a manner that there is the lack of the proper distribution of the influences necessary in the ACTIVITY of the glands about - or through - the thyroids. Not only those of the thyroids but those within same, which we have referred to as unnamed. These have an activity to perform within the system that deals with the numbers of hormones in the blood stream, that deals with gestation, as well as with the forming of the hair, the finger nails, the cuticle.
-
Then, the manner in which they are disturbed makes for a poor circulation through certain portions of the body. And upon examination (closely) there would be found a form of a lesion in the 2nd and 3rd cervical, and in the 3rd and 4th dorsal. These are centers that make for a more specific exhibit or manifestation of the character of disturbances; though, to be sure, the organs of the system - as in the sensory forces, eyes, ears - are SYMPATHETICALLY hindered in their activity.
-
While the general health of the body may appear, or is, very good, if these suggestions we are going to make will be followed very closely, as we find, we may bring much bettered conditions for this body.
-
In making the applications, then, we would have certain periods when there would be certain applications to induce an activity through the gland system. Then there would be a short rest from taking such properties into the system. Then there would be another character of application to produce specific conditions or changes in the distribution of the activity increased by the properties formerly taken, and for the activities of the system itself through such applications, see?
-
So, we would first be very mindful of the diet; that this is body and nerve building, but more alkalin-producing than acid. Let one meal each day (preferably the noon meal) consist only of raw fresh vegetables; including (either at all times or from time to time) such as lettuce, celery, leeks or onions, radishes, raw cabbage green, spinach, mustard, onion tops at times, tomatoes, asparagus (though this may be cooked and included as a portion of the salad), peas and the like. With same may be used a mayonnaise or an oil dressing. Don’t eat this and then at once take any tarts or pastries or things of that kind; but let the whole MEAL be of this - and nothing else before or after for at least two hours!
-
Also we would begin with Atomidine; three minims in half a glass of water before the morning meal is taken, and three minims in the evening just before retiring. Continue in this manner with the Atomidine for ten days.
-
The leave off the Atomidine five days.
-
Then begin with treatments osteopathically, in which corrections would be made specifically in the 3rd and 4th DORSAL area, in the 2nd and 3rd cervical area. We would have at least ten of these, with also occasionally a GENERAL treatment throughout the whole system so that drainages are properly set up, so that the activity produced by the Atomidine (atomic iodine) in the system will function with the organs of gestation or the organs of the pelvis and with the thyroid and the organs THROUGHOUT the system. These will naturally set up drainages. We would use Dobbins’ method for these.
-
During the period of taking the Atomidine (but NOT during the rest period from same, nor during the period of osteopathic manipulations), we would EACH day - during that ten-day period - have LOCAL application to the head or scalp as follows:
-
Take at least five to ten minutes to massage the scalp with the White Petroleum Jelly. Afterwards take an Olive Oil Shampoo. Do this EACH day during the ten days when the Atomidine is being taken. Not just on those portions where there is shown the lack of the fission of the hair itself, or where the roots of the hair are lacking in stimulation through the scalp. But extend down to (in the massage) the edge of the hair, to the neck, to just over the ears. Not down in front over the forehead, but over the ear and down to the nape of the neck. Let this be done each day WHILE the Atomidine is being taken. When the rest period starts, and the osteopathic manipulations, leave off the scalp massage; letting such an interim be a rest from the scalp massage.
-
Also we find that the general exercise that may be taken by the body will bring much bettered conditions.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes nearsightedness? (A) Disturbance in the sympathetic activity, or in the sensory system, through the sympathetic activity of hindrance in the dorsal and cervical area as indicated.
-
(Q) Will his eyes also be benefitted by this treatment? (A) Eyes will also be benefitted; so will the feet; so will the digestion!
-
(Q) What type of exercise would be better? (A) Walking, and stretching; or such as tennis would be well as an exercise.
-
(Q) Should more than one course of the treatment outlined be followed? (A) There should be taken at least three rounds of same; and by the middle of the second course we should see definite results.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 8/27/35 EC’s letter to Dr. Dobbins: The report on Mrs. [935]‘s case is very remarkable. Thank you very much. We’ll be glad to hear further. I suspect you have had before this another case of “baldness,” as Miss Gladys has just remarked that in his reading it was suggested that he “use the Dobbins’ method.” I don’t know just what method that is, but perhaps you do. It was peculiar to have it mentioned in just that way.
With kindest personal regards, and hoping you will let us hear again soon, I am
Sincerely,
ASS’N FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INC. (EC:GD)
P.S. Dr. Dobbins, in my indexing, I’m finding it rather difficult to name the patient’s ailment - from the reading. In the cases that come to you, where possible, would you give me the technical name of the disease or ailment? Yesterday in a reading [982-1] a condition was described which sounded like psoriasis, yet when we asked the question the answer was “No.” So, I don’t know what it is. I would appreciate this very much, for gradually - as you suggested when here - we could work out specifics. GD.
R2. 11/5/35 Mother’s ltr.: “Your tr. has not helped my son very much so far and I want to ask your advice about it, as I am so anxious about his losing his hair. He has had 12 tr. from Dr. Dobbins and has taken the Atomidine as you suggested. I hope you will be kind enough to write and tell me what you think is the trouble.”
R3. 11/7/35 EC’s reply: “I would suggest that he keep these tr. up for possibly another 6 tr. and then if he doesn’t see some definite results that we try another rdg. to see if the cause can be located… We will be in N.Y. again the early part of the year, and in any event would be very glad to see you and have a talk with you.”

B1. 7/21/35 Mother’s ltr.: “He is losing his hair. It is almost gone from the top of his head and the loss of it is a great detriment to him in every way. He has tried oil tr. of several kinds and the best doctors and nothing has done any good. We are therefore turning to you.”
