This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 2nd day of September, 1935, in accordance with request made by the friend of a friend - Miss [516], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

-
EC: Yes.
-
Now, as we find, as to the conditions that HAVE disturbed this body, [986], rather there may be given in general that which may help in meeting conditions of this type or character, than that which may in the present be of great material PHYSICAL help to THIS particular body.
-
The very nature or type of this disturbance is insidious and subtle. There is the inability to remain conscious of the reaction or responses between the brain and sensory forces. Hence there is an attack to the nerve areas lying between the conscious and unconscious, or between the voluntary and involuntary activity. The cerebrospinal system becomes involuntary, and the sympathetic or vegetative system becomes voluntary.
-
As we find, then, this is a blood disturbance; or the lack of the effluvia in the blood to make - as it were - the proper connections between the positive and negative vibrations in the system.
-
So, for such disorders - or for this character or type of disorder - we would apply the radial low electrical forces that would carry the necessary elements in the system to make for positive and negative reactions between these poles in the system. And we find there would be the response.
-
These would be applied with the Wet Cell or low electrical forces for thirty minutes each morning, carrying the Chloride of Gold solution; and for thirty minutes each evening, carrying the Silver Nitrate solution. The attachments would be made in this manner:
-
Mornings - the positive, copper or plain anode would be attached to the 1st and 2nd cervical. The larger plate, through which the Gold solution would be carried (in the proportion of one grain to one ounce of distilled water), would be attached last (being the negative, you see) over the umbilicii plexus and lacteal duct area.
-
Evenings (about the period when ordinarily one should go to rest for the night) - the positive or plain copper anode would be attached at the upper plexus of the secondary cardiac, or the 2nd and 3rd dorsal. The negative anode carrying the Silver Nitrate (a twenty percent solution) would be attached over the lower LUMBAR area.
-
Attached in these manners, the solutions carried to the body - through their activities through the vibratory forces of the electrical vibrations - would materially aid in establishing an equilibrium. For the centers in the system from which there arises these impulses would be QUICKENED by such vibrations.
-
These applications, as we find, would be most helpful to conditions of this nature. Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/4/35 Letter from EC to [516]: ”…The information gotten for Mr. [986] has been forwarded to you. We wouldn’t know from this whether he is still alive or not, as the information seemed to be given more for the disease generally of that type than for the individual. However, if he is still alive and the institution can be prevailed upon to follow the suggestions made, I feel that results might be accomplished even yet…”
R2. 9/5/35 Letter from [516] to EC: ”…I’m so glad you decided to go on with Mr. [986] diagnosis when you obtained the correct address. Many thanks. I’m always interested in cases the Mayos turn down or the John Hopkins says there is no cure for. Then I know it is some psychic disturbance which they know nothing about. I long for the correct way of healing by touch. I suppose when the right time comes I’ll be shown.
“I sent your instructions on to his wife by way of Mrs. Pascoe who I want to learn about your work. Her husband is a doctor in the Army or rather retired now. He confesses he has failed but very skeptical about psychic matters. Mr. [986]‘s wife is a Christian Scientist and I hope she will take renewed interest on receipt of your diagnosis. So many little things hang on real healing…”
R3. 9/19/35 Letter from [516] to EC: ”…The sick man in Leavenworth, Kansas [986] is surrounded by limitations and I doubt if any advice could reach him, as his wife is a Christian Scientist and a Veterans Hospital is about the last place to find a cure. I just hope against hope something can get over to him in spite of his surroundings…”
R4. 10/2/35 Letter from [516] to EC: ”…You will be interested to learn that some little sign of our progress and the workers in spirit and your trance diagnosis have begun in the good work for Mr. [986] of Kansas. His point of view has begun to change writes his wife and Mrs. Pascoe, and they have even asked the doctors to follow your instructions which have been read and they are giving him electrical treatments and while he feels each day is his last, he has been carried home for a two weeks change and he admits his head feels a little bit better. So far so good. This long distant work has its disadvantages, but it is good as we are not hampered by each separate ailment…”

B1. 8/10/35 Letter from [516] to EC: ”…I’m enclosing $10.00 for a reading of a man [986] who has been given up by The Mayo Brothers as beyond their help. He is side-tracked in a Veterans Administration House - Hospital W.I. Kansas. He has what he thinks is sleeping sickness for 5 years, and is getting worse all the time. Will you diagnose his case as fully as you can and answer: 1. What treatment should be given? 2. What did the word ‘Upas’ mean when he had a vision of it spelled across a tree which he dimly remembered having seen?…”
B2. 8/14/35 Wire from EC to [516]: “Wire full name and address of the one needing reading…”
B3. 8/14/35 Letter from [516] to EC: ”…I’m sorry but I do not know the middle name of Mr. [986] now at Veterans Administration House, Kansas, Hospital W.I., nor can I reach a telegraph station at present so this note must suffice. Trusting you can obtain a healing message for this man, believe me…”
B4. 8/20/35 Letter from EC to [516]: ”…Because we felt the case to be urgent, we wired you for the name and address of the man on whom you wished the reading. Then we had your letter a few days later giving his name [986] but NOT his address.
“As you know, it is necessary that we have the exact address at which an individual will be during the time of the reading. You merely give the address as Veterans Administration House, Kansas, Hospital W.I. In what city or town in Kansas is this? Please give the exact location, as if you were directing someone to visit there.
“I’m sorry of this delay, but we tried to avoid it. If you will let us have this information by return mail, we will see what we can obtain through the reading at the earliest possible moment…”
B5. 8/23/35 Letter from [516] to EC: ”…I just did not understand just how you work. Please don’t bother any more about Mr. [986]. He is a sick friend of a friend of mine. I don’t know if he even approves of psychic work so I could not ask him to be in a special place, though he is sick in bed in the Veterans Hospital Kansas - (I think there is only one in each state.) I know he has received some data I sent though he can’t write, so that handicaps the situation still further. I was just groping for help for him as through my friend, Mrs. Cornelia Pascoe, 12 Armourville Ave., Tuckahoe, N.Y., I learn he is in need of help very much. He may be unable to use what you might get for him as he is so handicapped for funds. Some other way will be shown me more direct perhaps. I’m sorry for all the trouble you have gone to in connection with this matter…”
B6. 8/27/35 Miss [516] wrote that her friend had written a note saying the place was Leavenworth, Kansas.
