This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of January, 1936, in accordance with request made by Dr. John R. Thompson, over telephone, through Associate Membership of the mother, Mrs. [1073], in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 12:30 to 12:35 Noon - Eastern Standard Time. Detroit, Mich. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [988].

2. The conditions are very low; these produced by the inability of the heart to meet the emergencies that have arisen in the causes or the production of the changes that have taken and are taking place.

3. Unless there are immediate or some changes, unless there are responses, then there must be a separation.

4. We would find that in the immediate we would bathe the body in very hot water, especially either a whole immersion of the body in hot water or bathing along the spine to distribute and to maintain an equilibrium and to gain a strength.

5. Under the supervison of a physician, we would give an emergency injection of the institutions of the heart’s activity, or of DIGITAL - in such quantities as would make for equalizing and strengthening the circulation.

6. The Adrenaline would be too severe, though this may be adhered to later - unless there is response from this.

7. Do these, then, in the immediate. The hot water, and then the injections.

8. Ready for questions.

9. Do these immediately. We are through for the present.

Dear Mr. Cayce-

Am afraid I have time for just a few lines, but will try to get as much said as possible - tho it is very little of real importance that I know. Suppose you have already heard of [988]‘s rather sudden turn for the worse with death following. I think Mrs. [601] said she was going to telegraph you same. Anyway, over night on Thursday a week ago he seemed to suddenly take a turn for the worse, with the seeming loss of all anabolic powers. For almost a week, then, he steadily and rapidly declined, with few and small rallies. He was in no pain, could take fair quantities of liquid and semi-liquid foods, and the regular body functions were all seemingly o.k., including head, kidneys, etc. But, the power of the body to hold and use this food and liquid seemed lost, with the resulting terrific loss of weight and death in a short time. As to the actual cause of this I don’t know, but do know that all efforts to sustain him were unavailing. Intravenous glucose with hypo’s of insulin would have possibly kept him a few more hours, but after all that would have merely been unnecessary torture with no permanent results. Just a weary and tortured body that finally quit fighting. I had grown to like [988] very well and if I ever had a patient I wanted to save it was him. Makes one appreciate their own good health more.

DEAR MR CAYCE JUST WISH TO TRY IN SMALL WAY TO CONVEY TO YOU HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DID FOR [988] IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS OF HIS LIFE FEEL THAT NO ONE ELSE IN THE WORLD BUT YOU COULD HAVE DONE FOR HIM KNOWING NOW AS I DO THAT HE MIGHT HAVE DIED IN AGONY WITH MORPHINE AS WAS JUST WENT TO SLEEP IF COULD ONLY TALK WITH YOU COULD TELL YOU MORE STILL PLANNING TO SEE YOU (Rest used in 1075-1 Reports on her daughter.)

R4. 1/17/36 HLC’s letter to Mrs. [1073]:

There is no need for me to try and express in words how I feel about [988]. You know that I had grown to feel a personal interest, in spite of the fact that we are constantly in touch with all types of serious cases. I know how you hoped and held on to the last. Love, courage, and understanding such as you manifested does not die, but can only mean greater ease and peace for those for whom it is expressed. You know this to be true for [988] did attain greater understanding and greater peace through your efforts. The body is only a shell, a home for a short time for the soul, the soul is eternal. You should be happy in knowing that you brought a beautiful expression of love, sympathy and understanding to that soul. It was a responsibility which you met with courage, an opportunity for service which you took advantage of in a most noble manner, a duty which you faced with understanding.
