This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of David E. Kahn, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 23rd day of November, 1936, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1073], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Va.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Lucille Kahn.]
Time of Reading 11:55 to 12:15 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Michigan. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1073]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, in the present, there are rather acute conditions that arise from inactivity of some of the glandular system; produced by a great deal of anxiety and the attitudes that have become a portion of the entity’s experience - being an effect of subjugating or of not giving full expression of self in the ways felt.
-
While the condition in the present is at times very disturbing and aggravating, especially as to the manner in which there are the feelings about the throat, the larynx and the base of the activities of the thyroid glands, this as yet is not as has been suspected by the body (or the entity). But, unless there are the activities that would alter much the manifestations of expression in body, it may become a very disturbing condition.
-
These portions of the glands are involved, yet they are not setting up a growth as yet; rather repressions as from the tightening that appears in the emotions of a body.
-
And these should find, as has been indicated for the body, rather the expression in busying the activities of self, and those abilities that are so well a portion of the whole of the entity, in ways and manners that may be helpful to others.
-
If there is still held that of self-pity, or the continued making for condemnation of self, such influences work as definitely upon the physical organisms as related to the sensory reactions as slow poison to the system.
-
For anger, resentment, condemnation can and do oft in the experiences of individuals build those influences that give expressions in forces that have been so hard to combat in human experience - and give expressions in those things that become hard to deal with.
-
So may the activities of this body be expended in the abilities to find more and more the expression of self, in the use of the voice, in the music, in the rhythm that may mean, does mean, so much in the lives and the experiences of others. Unless they are given such expression, these tend to make for such repressions as to become destructive forces.
-
Because there has been the attempt of the body to do these in more or less of a whole-soul manner and then in half-hearted sort of ways - giving away to those feelings that its usefulness and its activities are passe’ - these have but heaped upon the experience of the entity, in the body-actions, greater and greater dissenting and distrusting forces in itself and its abilities to meet not only the emergencies but the general activities of the day.
-
Disappointments become then more and more as mountains of influence that would work hardships upon the body.
-
Not that the body should act in a gay, frivolous manner, but rather as has been indicated for the body; that it should budget its time in those activities which are so necessary - which WERE SO necessary in the past, as may be experienced or known by the body if there is any form of introspection as to what was and is necessary for the preparation of a body in its physical and mental reactions to prepare itself for actions.
-
Then in such measures as these become necessary, apply self in some social activity, some recreation that is in the open, some recreation that is a training of the mental and physical activities, some period to reading and study, some periods to visiting and looking into the needs of less fortunate individuals, some periods of for discussion. All of these should be a part of the entity’s activity.
-
And for the material destructive forces that have been reactory in the system, use these:
-
Take the active forces that work with the actions of the glandular system, that will cleanse same; that is, very small quantities of Atomidine will become very effective with the body. Do not take it haphazardly, but as has been given for the budgeting of self’s time, self’s activities, self’s thoughts, self’s reaction. So make certain periods. Preferably just before there is any food taken of morning. One minim in half a glass of water, once a day. Keep this up for two weeks - ten days to two weeks. Leave off for a week.
But don’t leave off for ten days! Don’t leave off for two weeks! Do not take it one day and forget it the next! Do not take it two days and forget it for three! Do not do any of those things that are in the way of keeping the whole of the mental, the spiritual and the physical as coordinating, in accord, and cooperating one with another!
-
Occasionally, once or twice a week, apply the Violet Ray to the head, the neck, the throat, and especially across those areas with the throat applicator and about the vagus center. Do this for two or three minutes. Do this for two or three periods, then rest for two or three periods. This as we find will set about those necessary reactions.
-
Also occasionally we would have a general massage treatment following the general sweats. Not raising the temperature too high, but thorough rubdowns afterwards - preferably with salt rum. This about twice or three times a month will make much change.
-
As to the diets, keep those much in the way as has been indicated - in keeping an equal balance in the acidity of the system.
-
Do these, and - most of all - keep those attitudes as has been given.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 2/23/37 “Please do not think unkindly of me for not writing you long before this. I have tried many times but for some reason or other just couldn’t do it… Do not seem to be able to pull myself together to where I left off before I lost [988], and perhaps you cannot blame me too much. After all, I had him on my mind all of his life and his last year I was so busy trying to make him comfortable and save him, and suddenly it was all taken from me. I cannot get over missing it and the loneliness, try as I will. Believe me, it is not self-pity, there is a great void in my heart and home. I tried very hard to do on with my music last year and managed to do the opera under such great difficulty, as I had the flu shortly before it, but as you can see from the press notice, did not do so badly, and got by alright. Did not go on the boat trip. Did a group of songs for our music club in Oct. and have not sung since, as you know my voice left me, which certainly hasn’t helped my state of mind any. Then I had a bad fall when I was in Chicago and injured my left knee quite badly and top it all off last week one day I nearly fell down the stairs here and injured my right knee trying to save myself, which just frightened me stiff, as I felt I would break my neck, if I had fallen down. It is almost laughable, isn’t it? However, am grateful that my voice seems to be coming back. Vocalized a little today and it was not so bad. Am positive it was a case of nerves.” [She spoke of meeting Mr. [257], also wrote about her niece [1104]‘s condition.]
R2. 3/2/37 EC’s ltr. to Mrs. [1073]:
Dear Mrs. [1073]:-
Thanks for yours of 23rd, also the enclosure while we all are anxious and glad to hear from you, realize it is not always so easy as wishing for one to write, was so sorry to hear or your accident but hope you have fully recovered, and are feeling your normal good self again, we all want to thank you for the clippings, they are lovely, and certainly hope you will soon be able to keep the good work up. Might be bold to ask you for one of the Photographs say like the large single photo, think it is lovely of you, a bit sad but very lovely and if it is not presuming too much certainly would like to have one autographed.
You know we are always to try and help at any time, Mrs. [1073], can realize just how lonesome you must be at times, for experiences something like that myself, my Mother and I were very close, while for the last few years before her death, we were not together so often heard from here twice or more every week, and really find my self starting letters too her even now, and she has been gone for 10 years now, so don’t feel so bad about it all, but just know that [988] would want you to carry on, am only helped often by the recalling of my last few hours with my Mother, but know she would have me carry on for the help and hope I may in some small way bring to others, and that is just the way [988] would have you do, for we realize that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and of HIM is that we do good for others as he does for every one of us in the opportunities that come to us in so many ways.
[257] is a lovely boy, or I always think of him as such, for first knew him when he was just a boy, even before his youngest sister, [563] was born, and his Mother was always Mother [325] to me, and know she loved me like one of her own and I think of each member of the family as my own. And [257] I know thinks of me as among his best friends and as a brother.
Fla, must very nice this winter, Mrs. [1100] is there, she was very ill for a while, as you know, and was well for her to go, she seems to be having a very good time. Yes am sure all the labor troubles there has made business very bad but trust wity the settling of same, and better wages being give that every thing will clear up soon and things will all straighten out.
No, am always glad for you to tell me all about your self, yes, we all know the answers, doing them if oft times so hard for any of us to do them, but just to keep on trying, you remember that it was the TRY that was counted to the man that is called the Father of the Faithful, to Abraham, and we can just pattern our work as his keep on trying, and forgetting self-not our loved ones Oh no, but carrying them with us into out work, knowing they are with us, at all times.
Haven’t heard from [1104] and her mother for some time, many times the information has suggested the use of thyroid, it may be just what is needed, do not know, but if she wishes will be glad to see what the information suggests regards same, write her we would like to hear from her at any time.
Write us at any time, Mrs. [1073], we are always so glad to hear for we can never forget, your loyalty and love, when we needed it so, may God Bless you and keep you sweet, as you are always.
Give our regards to Mr. […] and to [1075].
With love from all here
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
