This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of August, 1936, in accordance with request made by the daughter - Miss [288], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 4:10 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ala. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before.
-
Not so good in some respects. Yet as WE find, if there would be the massage of the oils as has been indicated, and an adjustment more in the form of MANIPULATIVE than chiropractic adjustment, and then adhere to the strength-giving forces as beef juices or malted milks or these alternated, we should find the body improving - unless some unforseen condition arises, or unless some recurrence of those disturbances produces greater reactions in the body.
-
Some adjustments for those areas where the disturbance has been indicated become necessary, but DO NOT make these TOO SEVERE - but GRADUALLY change these! Do that. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Please give directions for one giving the oil rubs, if they should be continued. (A) These have been given, as to how these SHOULD be given.
-
(Q) Would Dr. Grapes or Dr. Thompson be preferable to make these adjustments? (A) Either; if they will do as has been indicated. These are NOT of the same school.
-
(Q) May anything be done to prevent the peculiar feeling in head? (A) Unless these adjustments and rubs are given, these as has been indicated WILL CONTINUE! This has been given!
-
(Q) What is needed most now for body to gain strength? (A) The vital forces that will assimilate and that give strength, as has been indicated - from malted milks, BEEF JUICES!
-
(Q) Any other advice for the body? (A) These we would do, else we may find distress to the physical forces as has been warned about.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 8/17/36 GD’s letter to Dr. Thompson:
See Rdg. 8/17/36: “Adjustments more in the form of MANIPULATIVE than chiropractic. Some adjustments for those areas where the disturbance has been indicated become necessary, but DO NOT make these TOO SEVERE - but GRADUALLY change these!”
Dr. D. C. Thompson [D. Carl Thompson, D.C.] …, Alabama
Dear Dr. Thompson:-
For Mrs. [1187] …, Ala., manipulations, massage and GRADUAL, GENTLE adjustments have been suggested as follows:
“The break in the circulatory system has arisen from those disturbances in the axis of the lumbar as well as those in the 9th dorsal centers that first caused the trouble. There should be the massages downward; not to those that come above the upper cervicals, for these would be harmful - in the beginning.
“While it is well to relieve pressure, the corrections should only be gradually attempted as the body regains its equilibrium from the crisis caused by the break in the circulatory system.
“In the adjustments osteopathically, we would have circular forces in the lumbar and sacral area; not too deep but circular forces, and in the 4th lumbar a portion of the condition which exists there is a basic weakness. Correlate same, when these areas have gradually relaxed (which will be found to the left side of the segment, upper portion of the 4th lumbar), with the lower portion of the 9th dorsal to the right side, by holding same; that is, if each point is held for a few minutes it will relax and make for an equalization in the distributing of the energies from these plexus. Hold the two points at the same time, you see.
“Later, we would massage gently from the base of the brain downward - away from the head, to the upper dorsal centers, either side of the cerebrospinal system more than in the centers of same - or along the sympathetic or vegetative system.
“After such an adjustment and treatment, coordinate the 9th dorsal center or plexus from the RIGHT side of same to the lower left side of the brachial - or the 2nd and 3rd dorsal center, in the same manner as that from the 9th to the lumbar axis.
“The CORRECTIONS, of course, should only be made at this time in the lower dorsal and through the lumbar area as has been long indicated for the body; these gradually made - and in the sacral area. Sufficient of these should be made to COORDINATE same (the corrections) with the UPPER portions of the distributing centers in the system.”
