This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of July, 1936, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [1348], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. Albert Sanders, thru Mr. [5540].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 11:30 to 11:45 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Mass. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1215].
-
Now, as we find, unusual circumstances and conditions surround this body. And those conditions that have disturbed and do cause the inabilities of activity in the present are from outside influences, yet they have had, do have, that to do with the real inner or soul development of the body - as well as an influence upon those that are associated in the physical activities of the body.
-
These then have been used, are being used (the existent conditions), and are being met with an understanding that has given, may give, the opportunity for greater expressions in the mental and material activities of all concerned.
-
That there are also pathological conditions existent is apparent. And there may be used applications and influences that are material for the preparation and activity of the physical being for the greater expression of this influence that has been set in motion from the spiritual and mental natures of those influences about the body.
-
And if the fact is held to and not lost sight of that all the force, all the power, all the healing forces that may come as help to the body are of the one source, the bringing to the consciousness the ability of each element, each influence in the body then becomes merely a physical activity; not merely rote but as in keeping with material laws in a material world through which the mental and physical forces of a living organism manifest.
-
In the physical body there has been the crushing of a vertebra in such a manner as to produce pressure upon the spinal cord; yet this is in such areas that the UPPER portion (the arms, the nerve forces to the upper part of the body) may be brought - with a slow development, to be sure, through the influences of the living organism in the body - to full or almost complete activity. And the lower limbs, the lower trunk portion of the body, may be materially aided by assisting the bodily forces - through the nature’s activity in the body - to preserve a living activity throughout to somewhat bridge and eventually make for an activity where the body may make for movements upon its OWN body; with the use, to be sure, of helps, of aids, of props in the form of the activities as the bodily functions develop.
-
As we would find, we would continue then with the spiritual influences that have been brought to bear in the life and the experience of the body of [1215], as WELL as in the experiences of those about the body.
-
And we would add in material form these:
-
First, we would begin with the use of the Radio-Active Appliance; this to be used on opposite or cross extremities; that is, right wrist, left ankle; left wrist, right ankle. This we would use each day, preferably in the afternoon as a stimulation to the general circulation through the body, for one hour.
-
We will also find that material aid may be brought to the lower portions as well as to the upper extremities by the use of GENTLE rubs with a combination of oils (which we will give); using what the body will absorb only, and sponging off, after thirty or forty minutes of rest, with lukewarm soda water. This would be a level teaspoonful to a quart of water, or that proportion. Use SAL soda, NOT the ordinary baking soda - as it carries other properties; but SAL soda. The combination of oils would be in this manner:
-
To 4 ounces of Russian White Oil as the base, add - in the order named:
Cedar Wood Oil…2 ounces, Oil of Pine Needles…1 ounce, Oil of Wintergreen…1/2 ounce, Camphor Gum (this to put in the solution and dissolved before any others are added, by the constant shaking or stirring; but the GUM, not that in the solution or Spirits of)…1/2 dram, Sassafras Oil…1/2 ounce, Compound Tincture of Benzoin…1 ounce.
-
Standing, these tend to make for separation, but when ready for the massage - which as we find would be well to be given as the body is prepared for rest of an evening - shake well and massage GENTLY the whole length of the spine, including of course the limbs. This, to be sure, done gently - in a rotary motion. Thirty minutes after it is given, sponge the body off with the sal soda solution.
-
Keep the diets much in the manner as has been given.
-
Give the applications of the Radio-Active Appliance each day at the period indicated, for one hour.
-
Do this, and in sixty to ninety days we would give further instructions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 11/26/36 Letter from [1215]‘s mother [1348]: ”…In your reading for my son [1215] several months ago you recommended an electrical appliance, also the use of a certain oil.
“We are using the electrical appliance, but have made two unsuccessful attempts with the oil. Both times he developed a very irritating rash. That required about a week to heal.
“I thought it best to let you know, as it might influence what would be suggested later.
“There were several reasons why we could not start these treatments until Nov. 1st, but we have faithfully done them since that time…”

B1. 6/5/36 Letter from [1215]‘s father: ”…Through a friend of [5540] of Richmond, Indiana, I have heard of some of the very wonderful trance readings you have given and I immediately asked where I might get in touch with you. I should be glad to hear from you as to where I can address you and if you are now giving these readings, and your charge for same.
“The things I have heard of your trance diagnoses of certain illnesses and conditions are quite remarkable. As I have a son who nine months ago through an accident completely severed the spinal cord and remains a very great problem to himself and his family, I am interested to know what you might read for him for us…”
B2. 6/22/36 Letter from [1215]‘s mother [1348]: ”…On August 19th of last year my son had a driving [diving] accident which resulted in his being paralyzed below the fifth vertebra [See D.O.’s diagnosis under 1215-5 Reports]. The doctors did not think he could possibly live, but after several months he began to show definite signs of improvement, and is now in a wheel chair.
“The doctors have not been able to do anything for him beyond supervising his nursing care.
“Personally, I think our faith in God’s loving care has been the main reason for our boy having come so far, and it keeps him in a tranquil state of mind.
“Having come so far, I firmly believe he can reach perfect health again, and when we recently heard of some of the wonderful things you have done, thought this means might be the answer to our prayers.
“I hope there aren’t too many applications ahead of ours, for we shall be anxiously waiting to hear from you…”
