Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Body and enquiring mind, who seeks information, advice and guidance as to her material affairs, associations and work. Ques.)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [1246]; this we have had before, in its phases of experience in the earth, in those material-physical conditions - as would be well for the body to take more in earnest.

2. In the material associations, there has been given much as respecting the character, the nature of those material forces in which the entity would find itself in the desire or inclination for activity.

3. The surrounding conditions, as we find, have been very well chosen. There is, under the present EXISTENT conditions, a topheavy overhead. These should be made to conform to that as is being accomplished.

4. The associations with those that might become interested in the distributing of the idea and in there being installations of those interests that are expanding into such fields of activity are very good. Yet these are looking for, seeking for, that which would in the main be too easy. And there is then to be used in this association and connection rather the CONNECTIONS than individual activity, though there may be - as we find through [1120]‘s association - outlets that would become most helpful.

6. (Q) Should I be working with Jack Hoins? (A) This is a matter of choice. Consider all the associations, the abilities and the activities in these directions, and in each individual case let each individual be PRODUCTIVE of that as is desired without becoming a hanger-on.

7. (Q) How shall we outline presentation as requested by Messrs. [257] and [1120]? (A) In the manner in which it, the proposition, as a whole, may be presented not only as a part of that which becomes as a supplying through electrical furnishings, or as an addition to same, but those that make same as a part OF the units would be the better way for this presentation through [257]. While [1120]‘s associations would become more as an addition to better housing. For in these connections, as we find, it may be worked with the better housing program.

8. (Q) Should I be working with Chas. Leslie Fordyce? (A) The same may be said here as in the first, though the abilities are of quite a different nature, and extend into a more congenial and helpful influence.

9. (Q) Should I be working with Jane Eberly? (A) Again we find that these are a matter of individual choice. Set a basis, set an ideal, and let these activities become rather as according to that. Because to say, “Should I be this, or should I be that,” either way might be correct; either way might be wrong! It is depending upon purposes of the seeker, the worker, and the activity of the product and the associations. These shall be of self, NOT set!

10. (Q) With Virginia Hart? (A) The same.

11. (Q) Am I helping or hurting [1496] [Secretary to [1246]]? [12/9/37 Mrs. [1496] obtained first Physical Reading, unemployed due to failing eyesight. See 1246-3, Par. R3.] (A) Answer within self. Who is to be the judge to ANYONE’S action? For each soul is a portion of the Creative Forces. Art thou acting as ye would be acted toward if the circumstances and the conditions were reversed? These are the manners of judgement in self. What is thy standard?

12. (Q) How have [257] and I worked together in the past? (A) In the temple preparations at the rebuilding.

13. (Q) What should be our associations in the present? (A) Rather as a lead to an outlet for an idea.

14. (Q) Any other advice? (A) ADVICE has been given, and counsel. What will ye do with it?

R4. 5/8/38 Letter to HLC in N.Y.C.: “Because it is easier on your eyes, I’ll use a machine. First, I want to tell you that I am deeply grateful to you for calling on me at my office. You clarified many things for me.

“Second, I’m enclosing the reading [1246-3]. Nothing came of the [1120] association.

“On the questions - I did not take Jack Hoins into my organization because of this reaction. Since then I have found that it would have been a mistake had I done so.

“Mr. [257] lost interest when he would [have to bear] the cost of the necessary research.

“Mr. Fordyce disappeared - proving that my doubt was well founded.

“Miss Eberly later justified my question.

“Virginia Hart left the city.

“Mrs. [1496]‘s husband received a better position so she did not have to work.

“Perhaps you are right and I should use my intuition because reading this today shows that every one made a change.

“I have no mental unrest now. I am simply trailing but I would like to ask: 1. Should I continue to work on housing? 2. How should I handle the Westinghouse Co. which has not confirmed the verbal order? 3. Should I discontinue all work on color? 4. Am I doing the work for which I am here?

“If you would, as you suggested, come down and give me the benefit of your guidance I would be very glad. I would like to have this reading as soon as possible. Meantime I shall take no action.

“Again, thank you.” Sincerely, [1246]

R5. 5/9/38 HLC’s letter to EC: “Your daughter - Egyptian - was most interesting on Friday at tea. I refer to [1246]. She is going to have another reading and promised to invite a number of people to the meeting on Friday.”

R6. 5/10/38 HLC submitted questions for 1246-4, saying: “It seems that Mrs. [1246] is not just a person with ideas but also a person with ‘ideals.’ After considerable discussion with her, including a careful checking over her Life Reading [1246-2], I am sure that another reading approaching her situation from a much broader point of view will be helpful. I have attempted to open the way for a complete survey of her needs through the following suggestion and questions.” [See 1246-4.]

R7. 5/14/38 HLC’s letter to EC: “Mrs. [1246] knows some nice people and is doing plenty of talking about Mrs. [1496]‘s case, which is working fine. It certainly does pay to give sometimes [N/C for the [1496] reading?] without worrying about the other material side - in fact, all the time, I expect.”

R8. 5/14/38 Mrs. [1246]‘s letter: “I’ll be in meditation on Monday at 3:30…and I, too, hope you may find the answer I need! You may be very proud of your Hugh Lynn - his devotion is delightful - he is growing rapidly more like his father who has given the world so much of rare value! My love to the Cayce ‘menage’.”
