This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 26th day of December, 1925, in accordance with request made by her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. [900] and Mrs. [136].

Time of Reading 9:40 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will have before you the body of Mrs. [139] of … N.Y. City, and you will tell us if the operation is necessary and what sort of anesthesia should they use, if it is necessary, giving us the physical condition of this body at the present time, and answering any other questions I might ask you regarding this.

2. EC: Now, we find there is considerable difference in the conditions in this body at the present from that as when we had it here before. While the condition is much exaggerated in that of the pressure as is produced in the head, we find were those conditions in the centers that produce this pressure, as has been given, were relieved by that of the relaxing of those central points, this condition could be relieved by the appliance of the rays, as has been given and without becoming so stressed, as will be under an anesthesia or under the loss of the nerve control, though the operation may be used; yet this we find will bring a strain to the system that will be hard to prevent a dissolution in, for with the strain as will be placed on the nerve system and the heart’s action, through ANY anesthesia, though the combination of gas and of the others should, were this to be used on body, see? gas and ether.

3. (Q) What suggestions will be best for the improvement of this body at the present time? (A) Without the relief that would be obtained through the applying of those forces that would relieve the pressure as is produced on brain, then it would be best to operate, though, as given, this is a very serious condition for an operation on the body at the present time, for the effects of the anesthesia in system is not totally left or removed as yet, see? but with the removal by the deep manipulation, as has been given to those portions of system where pressure is produced, in brain, see? those in the upper dorsal and cervical, brought to such a condition (the nerves, see?) by the manipulation and by the application of the rays, as given this may be assimilated in system, though without this, then operate - using the anesthesia as given, see? Combination, and this will bring bad condition in some conditions, see?

4. (Q) What should Mr. [900] do regarding this matter? (A) We haven’t [900] though we have this place. (In undertone) - [900] regarding this condition - co-relation - [900] … place, and [139] - …, N.Y. He has done his best. Keep that same position, condition, that he has held under the circumstances of same, see?

5. (Q) If the deep manipulations are used at the present, can this condition be relieved? (A) As given, this may be relieved - take longer of course, see? and should be properly handled, else the formations as are beginning, see? on brain, would become necessary to remove by the operation in the end, see?

6. (Q) What osteopath doctor would be the correct one to handle this condition at present? (A) Green.

Best to operate if they keep on bringing on this condition as we see at present, see?

R1. 12/28/25 Son-in-law [900]‘s letter:

“Well, we have had a time of it. A cloud that grew ever blacker overhung our Xmas, yet as I now view it, truly God gave to us a real Xmas present. It might be hard to make most see this, but I surely comprehend it, [137] grasps it and I think [106], [136] and [140] - even Mr. [139’s husband]

• to a greater or lesser degree senses the divine action manifesting before us.

“[136]‘s vision of the writing on the wall and the rest was certainly wonderful. Your reading (physical) helped, for we warned the doctors against the deterring influence of the anesthetic - thus the local application. Again your dream interpretations sustained, comforted and held aloft the truths which the dreams lighted up for physical recognition. The doctors held little hope for us - told us only 1 chance in 4 even with an operation and they were right. [137] and I know how her life has been saved although no materialist scientist would agree, and exactly as has been given in many hearts there entered the faith, the hope in Him, and the knowledge that He is faith, hope and the force of life, and other than His word is there none. [136], pregnant, crying in my arms as though her heart would break, reviewing her girlhood days with her now most likely going mother, thinking of her parting in June on the honeymoon, repeated after me prayer after prayer, her entire physical self crumbling before His will. Then the answer - the vision of ‘Recuperation’ written on the wall and the rest of it [See 136-26 on 12/27/25] - the answer as of old: ‘Thy faith hath made thee whole -’ that is a different answer than ‘Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin.’ Rather does it mean ‘By virtue of thy faith and repentance are thy sins forgiven. Behold my answer.’ And I prayed for and with my father-in-law [139’s husband] and [136] as [137] entered and prayed on his part. Others manifested the same spirit. Peculiarly enough, few of the family had access to the room but Dad and I - principally because she called often - not always, of course, but often - for me. I entered the room this a.m. and she clasped me about the neck and said, ‘[900], this is the end, I am going to die,’ and I quieted her and gave her the message - told her [136] had found God and He had given through her the news of her recovery, and also told her how in unselfishness, in faith and in fellow feeling we had all become the better by reason of her illness. God is using you to teach us and bring us all to unto Him, and I told her, and those He uses He rewards. She was quiet and as she went on the stretcher up to the operating room I heard her repeating, ‘The Lord is my shepard, I shall not want…’ You can’t lick that spirit because it’s God’s spirit and is unbeatable! Then my father-in-law, his two children married, 60 years old, left only with this wife he adored, bent and stooped low in humble submission after a night of prayer - waiting in dumb misery after the doctor told him frankly, ‘She may not be alive by the time I am down in the elevator.’

“While up there your interpretation came, the sunlight struggling through the clouds, the cure would be effective - ‘All is well.’ But it encouraged [136], [140], [137] and me, not the others. I suppose they may credit me for holding out against anesthetic - they’ll learn more of our work if they do. Then the first burst of sunlight, the first breaking of dawn - and the answering cry of glad hearts as the doctor told us the operation was successful.

“When I told [137] he said, ‘Don’t let them get cocky. She is still in danger and we must maintain the same way, the same manner, the same methods that through us spiritual power may work harmoniously within her to correlate and tighten the physical cord about the spiritual manifestation of the phenomenized forces of her phenomenized being.’

“Her faith, with ours, hath made her whole. Her life as we know it is a gift from Christ - a miracle as of old.

“We thank you and appreciate your most valued and desired aid.”
