1. EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before, [1413].

2. As we find, there are decided improvements in the general physical forces of the body in many ways.

3. We would not, then, change a great deal in the administrations that are now being made; we would rather impress upon those administering same, in all of the phases of it, the necessity of those things and those manners as we would indicate for the improvement.

4. Consistency and persistency is the need in this type and these characters of conditions.

5. The manipulations or the administrations or the diet, then, are not to be as rote but rather as in a purposeful manner, with the EXPECTANCY of results from same - each and every one.

6. Keep, in the administrations of corrections, the more perfect alignment in the upper dorsal and through the cervical areas; relieving pressures upon the centers from which the trachea retains its impulse and activity; also in the vagus and brachial centers where the branches of the tubes are receptive to the nerve pressures in same.

7. The Atomidine we would keep until there is a decided iodine reaction in the activity of the glands of the body as well as in the pulsations, and the activity of the whole circulatory system.

8. Keep the diet, not as rote but in the manners that have been indicated.

9. These we find are the better administrations for this body, [1413].

10. Ready for questions.

11. (Q) How may the sufficient reaction of the iodine be determined? (A) By that just indicated; the change in the pulsations, heart beat, as well as in the glandular reaction - or the clearing of the activities through the abrasions.

And these as we find must mean, then, that there is somewhat an excess of eliminations through alimentary canal. These may be aided or stimulated by the change-about in the diet, as well as by the administrations or manipulations to the abdominal area and the cerebrospinal system - or the whole of such administrations.

R1. 8/31/37 Mother’s letter:

My dear Mr Cayce:

Your letter to hand and I want to thank you for your interest. I am sorry to report that [1413] has just been through a most trying time with itching and Asthma all of which is a part of the same trouble and just something we have to hope and pray will go away.

Miss Grapes has been away but is back now and I sent your letter to her yesterday and [1413] did not go in for treatment today as she slept all day she did not sleep at all last nite -

I do so appreciate your special efforts in [1413]‘s behalf, you will never know how much - for we have about reached the end of our rope physically and financially - you can understand this I am sure when it has been going on so long -

R2. 9/12/37 Letter:

My dear Mr Cayce:

Your letter of the 6th received and I do so appreciate the real interest you show in [1413].

I do realize that there will be cycles of [1413]‘s trouble but for weeks now it seems that instead of them getting lighter they are worse - of course I realize too that as the skin sheds off it is getting more sensitive which could make it more painful - The thing that worries me most now is her attitude toward it - she has always been able to see the silver lining to her cloud, and hoped against (it seemed) that she would get well but for weeks now when she has these bad spells these black nights of horrible itching so intense she can not be still and sleep yet is so exhausted and nervous that she goes all to pieces - cries for hours - something that she has never done before - naturally I see every change in the thing - The Asthma has been getting better and only has that every few nites now, but asthma is always better when she is so horrible broken out with the eczema, it has always been that way - I don’t think [1413] got worse when Miss Grapes went away she was awful when Miss Grapes left - there were two days just before she decided to go there. [1413] was so bad she could not dress and go in to see her - she was that way again yesterday - she rarely ever goes on Sunday -

[1413] says she will be grateful if you will put her on the prayer group list and she will cooperate with your instructions - I am trying to keep tab on the bad days and the good ones. I mean to watch if these days come in 2, 3, 4, day cycles or how they do come and see if they are getting further apart - I think that is what you meant is it not?

You are mighty nice to check up on her so often, and it means a great deal to her - she waits and watches for every word from you - I wanted to mention this to you too, in your checking up, I wish you would ask about a shot she had sometime ago - It was given for allergy and only one shot, it had never been known to fail, but it takes sometimes 6 or 7 months to have the desired effect and when you take it you are supposed to have distinct reactions, such as rigors and high fever etc - after we gave the shot she did not have these reactions and weeks went by with out any, so it just passed along as one of these things or many things we had done for her along with hundreds of others - I am just wondering now if, after all of this time these spells coming in cycles and she has had fever several times in these past few weeks, could be a belated reaction of this shot and as it waited so long to have any effect, we weren’t looking for it

• please find out about it if you can - It might be possible that the change of Miss Grapes manipulations according to your instructions, helped to bring about the reaction - which should have come about in two or three weeks -

[1413]‘s Uncle had had this shot for allergy and he wanted her to take it too and since there was no change of treatment or anything to it but the taking of the one shot we let her take it - and after we saw no signs of it reacting we just let it go - but [1413] has had so many xray treatments and kinds of things done for her in all of these years of duration of eczema that it could have retarded the reaction, and since the effect of the shot is supposed to take about 26 weeks to wear off, I am wondering about it - I meant to ask you before but it amounted to so little I’d forget it - but about these cold spells and then a little fever and she had a queer headache all nite Friday nite all day yesterday and last nite too - all of which I recall now should have been the sort of reaction she should have had if the shot was taking effect -

Miss Grapes insist that [1413]‘s condition is better despite the horrible spells she is having now and she should know better than I - but all I know is the horror of these nights when she can’t sleep nor even lie down and just sits and scratches until dawn and then she can sleep for awhile until time to go to the doctor - which has to be done during the morning hours -

I am so glad you ask to put [1413] on the prayer list for I too am a believer in prayer for it is so comforting.

Another thing I wanted to ask you too was this - Miss Grapes is giving [1413] daily treatments, and I know you wanted her to have two or three treatments each week under the Osteopath so what about that - […] [son] remembers you very well and ask to be remembered to you. He grows so much like his Dad [3720] as time goes on, I hope he will always be as fine a man.

R3. 9/21/37 [1413]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Before giving you my questions I would like to thank you for your efforts to help me get rid of my skin trouble. You have been so kind to take such a personal interest in my case. I remember hearing my father speak so highly of you. Mother and I both appreciate your help.

Here are my questions: (1) What, if any, will be my reaction to an allergic shot I took about a month ago? (2) Is there anything that I am not doing …or doing… that retards progress? (3) Do you think I will ever be completely well?

R4. 9/21/37 Mother’s letter: I had to be away from home part of today and when I got here I found that [1413] had written you a personal letter - putting her questions just she has so I am sending it on in my letter to you - and she used the typewriter because her hands are so sore she picks on the machine with two or three fingers and can do that without bending her hand - so since it is such an effort to write at all and you wanted especially her own questions I am trusting that you will make the best of it this way - It was of her own will that she wrote you and not by my suggestion so I am sure you will accept it as is.

As to the shot and Allergy - that is the mane [main?] of rather what the doctors call [1413]‘s trouble - Asthma eczema, Hay fever and Hives are called Allergic diseases - In other words the patient is sensitive to certain things foods clothing etc weeds flowers horse hair - or many things [1413] reacted to 150 different things when tested - Miss Grapes says if the body chemistry is equalized as it should be there would be no Allergy - they all agree that it is poison caused from what they do not know - that seems to be the trouble all along. You see the shot was given sometime ago still not long enough for the entirety of the effects to wear off - and as is sometimes the case it takes 26 weeks for the shot to have the desired effect - we gave it because this doctor uncle of [1413] had used it and it helped him so much and he wanted to give it to her at cost to us so she wanted to try it - naturally we have been grasping at every straw for months rather years you might say - The shot has been used with a great deal of success, and it might be possible that in [1413]‘s case it takes the longest time possible due to her case being of such long duration - I don’t think Miss Grapes thinks much of it, still it did not conflict with anything she does and [1413] was allowed to go right on with her treatments, there were certain things restrictions in the orders, but after I saw no direct results from the shot we just went on and it way just one of the many things we tried but I thought I’d get you to ask about it along with the check up. You see there was only one shot to be given and we figured that if it didn’t help it could not do much harm - it is called Anti Infectious or Allergy shot -

Among the restrictions were the use of cathartics, the same kind of enemas you and Miss Grapes prescribed were to be used. Household remedies for headaches etc were not to be used, no alcohol rub nor otherwise, Ammonia, etc, and in other words no medicine to be taken internally I gathered - so I wanted to ask the question about the Atomidine - just thought of it and decided to ask you about it. I just noticed in [1413]‘s questions she ask about the shot and I won’t need to ask but she is mistaken in the time for it has been much longer than a month ago that she took the shot -

I hope I have made myself clear to you and we shall be doing our part on the date you set Sept 27th…3:30 to 4:30 -
