This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of August, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1420], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [1398].

1. EC: Yes.

2. Now as we find, there are disturbing conditions that prevent the better physical functioning of this body.

3. These as we find have to do with the overtaxing of organs as disturb the eliminating circulation; and, from the poisons that arise from these disturbances combined, produce those effects as we find in the physical forces of this body, [1420].

4. Then, these are the conditions as we find them:

In the blood supply we find indicated the effect of toxic forces as produced from the lack of the proper or the full eliminations of uric acid forces through the system; also an effect of the excess of acidity that has existed and does exist at times throughout the system; indicating those disturbances through the liver, the spleen and the whole of the upper hepatic circulation, as well as those conditions in the lower hepatic circulation, in the organs of same and in the effect as produced throughout the body.

These we find also make taxations upon the nerve forces of the body, producing insomnia, ofttimes upset disturbance in the digestive forces, bad taste in the mouth, the effects of halitosis and the activities to the extremities of the body as well as affecting the circulation through the sensory - or the activities to the sensory-forces of the body.

7. As we would find, then, in making for the better conditions to this body:

8. First we would begin by preparing and combining two quantities of Toris Compound. Be sure that in each quantity the ounce of Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla is used. There is one pint in each of these quantities, you see. Combine one with Simple Syrup, the other with Spirits Frumenti or Whiskey - and use pure Rye Whiskey, not Blended. Then add the two quantities together.

9. The dose would be a teaspoonful before each meal and at bedtime, shaking the solution well before the dose is taken. Continue in this manner until the whole quantity has been taken. We may find it necessary, after taking it for five days, to rest from same a period of two to three days - but take it until the whole quantity has been taken.

10. As soon as this compound begins to make for reactions of superficial perspiration, or extra quantities of same, begin then with the hydrotherapy treatments about twice a week. This would mean cabinet baths and preferably, when the cabinet bath is given, let this be a Fume Bath also - and use as the fume the Oil of Wintergreen. These we find would be the preferable; and follow same with the general massage and the general rub alcohol rubdown following the salt rub.

11. Also when the hydrotherapy treatments are being begun, we would begin with the use of the Radio-Active Appliance to make for the balancing of the circulation to produce a better equilibrium through the body; removing those tensenesses and taxations to the superficial circulations of the system.

12. In the diets, be mindful that there are not excesses of meats. Only use fish, fowl or lamb as the meats. No fried foods at any time. Beware of highly seasoned foods, and do not combine white breads, potatoes and spaghetti ever any two of these at the same meal. Preferably these should only be used, either of these, once or twice a week. Not too much of sweets, but keep sufficient activity as to keep the proper circulatory forces of the body.

R1. 8/3/37 Brother [1418] reported favorably on his own reading, saying: ”…I am more interested in my brother, [1420], who you read on Monday. I wonder if it would be possible for you to advise me as to his state? He seems to be very lax and in view of the fact that I can influence him if I knew all, I am sure that your advice to me in his connection will prove worthy. Will advise you further as to our progress.”

R2. 8/10/37 Letter from EC to brother, [1418]: ”…Now as to your brother, I would judge the disturbance is a very deceiving condition, and unless he does something about it, he will have Arthritis, Neuritis, or Rheumatism, or possibly the effects of all of these with the accompanying disturbances that come from lack of proper eliminations, and the functioning of the system, related to the eliminations. If there is no objection on his part, will make a copy of his reading and send you if you wish…”

R3. 8/10/37 EC’s letter to [1420]:

Mr. [1420] …, N.J. … Road

Dear Mr. [1420];-

Hope the information gotten for you on the 2nd was interesting. Feel sure will you give the suggestions a fair trial you will be the gainer there by. Had a letter from your Bro [1418], he was well pleased with his reading and wishes a copy of yours, of course we can only send it with your permission.

R4. 8/14/37 Mrs. [189]‘s letter: “Mr. [1398] was in a little doubt about the medicine suggested for his friend Mr. [1420] in Jersey since the doctors had forbidden this man to take any whiskey. So I told him to have his friend write you himself and that you would check that question for him and advise him.”

R5. 8/17/37 EC’s letter to Mrs. [189]: “Haven’t heard from Mr. [1398] as yet on his own, his wife’s [1422], or Mr. [1420]. Have had many cases where the disagreement with the Dr. appeared to be not so good but where the application certainly worked wonders. One either does or doesn’t take the suggestions as given.”

R6. 8/30/37 [257]‘s letter [dictated 8/27/37] to EC: “Reference the reading given on 8/2nd to [1420]. Mr. […]‘s brother [1418] had wonderful results and they are very happy in the outcome of his reading. But if you will refer to the reading given to [1420], you will find it rather difficult for me to fill the prescription.

“Now just what do you mean? To take one pint of Toris compound and add one oz. of Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla with simple syrup in addition; or is the compound syrup, the simple syrup that you mention?

“Now the second pint of Toris Compound is to be mixed with one oz. of the same Sarsaparilla with the spiritus of Frumenti - how much spiritis of Frumenti should be used before you mix the 2 pints of Toris Compound together. How much simple syrup is to be used if it is an additional syrup. Do I understand that he is to make one quart of this medicine and take it all?

“Please send this information direct to Mr. [1398] at … St., Brooklyn and a copy to me as one of us will have to have this prescription filled…”

R7. 9/1/37 EC’s letter to [257]: ”…First - the [1420] [case]

• It is not hard to understand if you will get a package of Toris Compound - it only comes in one size - an Oz. of the compound - you will find the directions are there, as to quantity of the simple syrup for the one quantity - also the amount of the whiskey to be used for the other - you are to use the Sarsaparilla in each of them. Then the two are to be put together. There is no trouble there at all. But am thinking you will still have your worries along this line until you get - in some manner or way the suggestion I have made to you time and again. LET THEM WRITE ME DIRECT
