This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 12th day of August, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - through her husband, Mr. [1398], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., via Mr. [257].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:30 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, Mrs. [1422].
-
Now, as we find, the conditions are such that there would be warnings for corrective measures, rather than so much of the applications of curative methods.
-
While the upsetting of the digestive forces will need correction and curative measures, it is rather the general condition that has much to do with glandular conditions of a nature as any.
-
These then are conditions as we find them for this body, Mrs. [1422].
-
IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, we find the effect of a poor activity in the eliminations, produced by the overtaxing of the digestive system as related to the character of foods more than quantities of foods.
-
For there is the inclination, from the superacidity that arises at times, for lacerations in the lower end of the stomach, or in the area about the duodenals.
-
Also there are the inclinations for certain characters of elements to become the more active in the system by the lack of a proper balance in the glands that assist so in digestion (the pancreas). Thus there is an inclination or a tendency that needs precautionary measures, as well as corrective and curative influences for the activity of that portion of the body.
-
IN THE NERVOUS SYSTEM, naturally the nervous system becomes involved in the areas of the cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems from which the greater impulse is received for the activity towards the functioning of that portion of the hepatic circulation as disturbed, as well as those influences for the assimilating influence or force of the body itself.
-
IN THE ORGANS THEMSELVES, we find brain forces very good. The supersensitiveness through the activities of the sensory organism arises from the high nervous tension; that may be accompanied at one time by the acidity, at another the changing of the metabolism through the activity of the glands - that are disturbed, as has been indicated.
-
In the throat, the bronchi, the lungs, the larynx: Here we find only the effects of a disturbing condition in the system; and these portions of the body only become aggravated then through those periods when either the assimilating or eliminating system is activative in the forces of the body itself.
-
IN MEETING, THEN, THE NEEDS OF THIS BODY, as we find, first:
-
There must be measures taken for the better assimilation of the food values taken.
-
Hence at least two or three days a week, after the heavy meal of the day (and as this varies, then the period at which this would be taken would vary), we would take a quarter teaspoonful of those properties contained in Alcaroid. Take just after the heavy meal of the day, within thirty minutes - the meal that is the heaviest, not each meal; for two to three days. Then leave off for two to three days, then repeat again - until there is a disappearance of the disturbances in the superficial circulation or the bodily forces themselves, less of the gas and belching, and a better elimination through the system.
-
We would also prepare the Clary Water - this to be taken as a tonic, and at the same time to make for impulses in the activity of the glandular system that would create the better balance for the body.
-
This we would have made for THIS body in this particular way:
-
To 1 ounce of the dried Flower of the Sage, or Dried Sage, add 10 ounces of Distilled Water. Let this come to a boil, and then set off until not cold but cool - so that it may be handled easily; and do not strain until it is near cool. This should make at least 6 1/2 to 8 ounces. To this then add 10 grains of Ambergris, dissolved in 1 ounce of Grain Alcohol. This would be one solution, you see - the Sage and the Ambergris.
-
Then, to 4 ounces of Re-Distilled Gordon Gin, add:
A fusion of the Ambrosia Weed…1/2 ounce.
Then add 1/2 ounce of Honey to 1 ounce of Distilled Water and let come to a boil, and add to the Ambrosia fusion and the Re-Distilled Gordon Gin. Add then a broken stick of Cinnamon.
-
Then combine the two solutions together.
-
The dose would be half a teaspoonful before each meal, just before each meal, for at least a period of a week - and then left off for three or four days, then begun again and taken for another week. Continue in this manner, repeating this process, until the whole quantity has been taken.
-
Then the DIET: Care and precautions as to this shall be taken. These beware of! Other foods, other combinations as to suit the palate may be taken, but these beware of!
-
No strong drinks or any food that makes for a quantity of alcohol in its activity in the system; that is, no cocktails, no beer. Wine may be taken AS a food, not as a drink. Red Wine in the late afternoon is very well, not more than an ounce and a half to two ounces; preferably with black or brown bread.
-
Beware of potatoes in any form, spaghetti or macaroni or WHITE bread!
-
Meats - never rare meats. Rather use those that are broiled or roasted; preferably only fowl, fish or lamb.
-
Eat plenty of fruits and cereals, but do not combine the two at the same meal.
-
Coffee, if taken at all, should be without cream - though sugar may be used in same. This should be fresh (the coffee), never stale.
-
Beware of tea.
-
And if the body will follow these, with the exercises in the open - not severe, but walking, riding, golfing and the like - we will find many of those minor conditions, or conditions that appear to be constitutional in their nature, will be materially benefited; and the body will feel much nearer to normal.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 8/30/37 [257]‘s ltr. [dictated 8/27/37] to EC:
”…You very often receive letters from Mrs. [189] or myself, because when the boys come in on Friday after having had readings they get us to handle them as they feel we understand the terms and phraseology better than they do. They don’t want to pass the buck to us.
Mr. [1398] is going to write you on a very peculiar situation. Mr. [1393]‘s father told me in his store last week that his wife and Mrs. [1422] were sitting together in the house when the reading was given. Mrs. [1422] has never had a complaint in reference belching and as a matter of fact
- thinks this reading is on his wife instead of Mrs. [1422].
The reading does not fit Mrs. [1422] at all, as there is nothing in the reading which hits her condition. I thought you would be interested in knowing about this as they are interested in seeing whether it is possible for the switch to have been made.
I have never known it to happen before but even telephone wires get crossed and a conversation meant for one person goes to another.
Mr. [1398] said regardless of whether the wires were crossed or not it still doesn’t take away from the fact that you have wonderful psychic ability to even find the two people and tell one of them what is wrong.
What would be your suggestion in a case of this kind. You will hear from Mr. [1398] direct about this…”
R2. 9/1/37 EC’s ltr. to [257]:
”…As for the information for Mrs. [1422], it is possible, of course, that the information was for Mrs. [mother of [1393]] - How do I know? Except just as have been trying to say to you, from the first time I ever spoke to you about the readings. There has to be - for some unknown reason - the direct contact with the seeker. Why, I do not know.
Yes, there have been many - where such was not the case but these usually were expressed by someone else and very definitely. The instance is very interesting and is if I understand at all why we have a Research Ass’n to study just such and that such may occur - will or does prove there is a LAW regarding such - and we have to find it, if possible, and apply that we have been convinced is the way to apply the suggestions for those seeking information.
The […] readings [[1420] and [1418]] are a wonderful example:
One [1418] asks and conforms to all the suggestions for obtaining a good reading - that one has an excellent one and as you say is obtaining results.
The other [1420] does nothing and you are having trouble understanding what is given - what is the answer? Do you see my point?
It has ever been just that way - yet have been trying to get you to see that, for years, some how you haven’t. Guess it is me - not being able to explain it to you, but possibly here you may get [the idea] in an example just what I have been trying to say.
Have tried to get you to have Mr. [1398] to say what he wished, but he has come to you or Mrs. [189]. If you look at this thing - think you will see why every now and then we have had some words about it. I swear most every time I will not give a reading unless they comply to the rules, […], yet I let you persuade me that you know best or that you wish to stand in their stead, and do the writing for them, as you know the terminology of the readings or the like. This should be a lesson to each of us.
Am glad to try and do whatever Mr. [1398] wishes - but think you will agree will be best that they comply with the suggestions as to ‘How to obtain the best reading’ - or do you know some other.
Only a day or so ago some people came in [?] to hear a reading - had nothing to do with it or the request - merely came to listen. The reading was for someone in Calif. [?] - yet one of those present was sure the reading was for them and have acted on same as if it was and has gotten excellent results - but no better than the one for whom the reading was really given…”
R3. 9/4/37 Mrs. [189]‘s letter: “I note your letter to Mr. [257] in reference the [1420] and [1422] readings. And you are probably right. However, as you also know most people are so lazy about writing letters and doing things for themselves that Mr. [257] probably feels that unless we do the writing, you will lose out and certainly during the last few years we could hardly afford to let you do that. So, it works in a vicious circle. But, we will heed your warning and wherever possible, we will get the people to contact you direct.”
R4. 11/7/37 Mrs. [1422] and husband, Mr. [1398], and friends Mr. & Mrs. […] [parents of [1393]], and Mr. [257], were present for her second Physical Rdg. - See 1422-2.
R5. 11/7/37 See 1422-2, Par. 10-A and 14-A regarding statements in letter [Par. R1 above].
R6. 11/13/37 Husband obtained a 3rd Physical Rdg. - See 1398-3.
