This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of November, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self through his mother, Mrs. [3914], Associate Member of the Association for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over years from the present - ” - ‘39 - anxieties, disturbances - ” etc., on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we are given the records here of that entity now known as or called [1460].

4. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, these we choose with the desire and purpose that this may prove a helpful experience for the entity; enabling the entity to better fulfil those purposes and abilities with which it entered this present sojourn.

5. Not, then, from the material angle alone. For, the soul’s entrance into a material manifestation is that the soul may find - through the application of the SOUL ideal - those closer relationships to Creative Forces.

6. For, God hath not desired that any soul should perish, but constantly gives opportunities for the application of those tenets and truths that are awarenesses in the experience of each entity; that it may find itself.

7. To be sure, there are urges latent and manifested in the experience of each soul, through the manner the application has been made of the varied sojourns in the earth. These leave characteristics, or individualities, that - with the character and with the individuality - create or bring personalities, or manners in which the individual entity meets varied problems.

8. The purpose of such information, then, is to point out, to indicate to an entity, those faults, those virtues; that the entity may be forewarned, and thus - with the knowledge and the opportunities in the earth - apply self, for spiritual and soul development.

9. These are the characteristics that one finds with this entity. As to what the entity does ABOUT such is the problem, is the living experience of the entity. Thus the necessity of each entity, as for this entity, to have an ideal - and then live up to that ideal; not only in the material plane but in the mental and spiritual consciousness also.

10. Know what ye believe and the author of thy belief; knowing, or being persuaded by thine own consciousness, that the ideal, - spiritual, mental or material, - is able to keep self, to keep that, to keep the way that will lead to the closer relationship to God, in Christ-Jesus.

11. The entity is one affable, and makes self felt in its relationships to others; yet there are the tendencies to bluff itself through, in many a circumstance.

12. Naturally, from experiences in the earth, the entity is a student of, and one interested in, humanity. Thus the entity is tenderhearted; one easily moved by distress in any relationships with others. This, to be sure, may become a stumblingblock or a steppingstone, dependent upon the manner in which the entity may use same.

13. From such also we find great amounts of intuition. The entity KNOWS without knowing how or why it knows, and yet all the more reason why the entity should be well-grounded in an ideal; else there may be taken what may oft appear to be the easier way for the moment, forgetting the final development of such activities.

14. One that may use its psychic forces, then, for either weal or woe; woe if used as a bluff only; weal or betterment if the guiding forces in self are tempered with that promise in the way, the truth, the light, and ONLY in spiritual and NOT in ENTITY’S consciousness or guidance. For, these may become very, very disturbing if there is not the grounding in those forces that make for the closer walk in spiritual things.

15. In most any field of activity might the entity succeed; that as would have to do with mechanical appliances (as will be seen why), or the greater force - if the entity would prepare self, and become grounded in spiritual understanding - may be through the expending of self as a lecturer, or a writer. But, unless there is preparation spiritually, mentally, materially, these may become disturbing, distressing, destroying - if attempted without preparation.

16. We find that the astrological sojourns have little influence, owing to the manner in which the entity has thus far applied itself; though these as latent influences are indicated.

17. Mercury, - a good mental mind, one that can remember or recall easily, if the entity sets itself to such. Thus it might become a wonderful student, once it had FOUND itself and become determined in the course to pursue.

18. In Venus we find the affability, the ability to direct or control others; though not necessarily a leader, save as in mental abilities. And with this tendency of “bluff,” there necessarily may become a questioning, unless self has been and is kept grounded in spiritual things.

19. We find in Jupiter the congeniality, the ability to interest others - as groups or masses. Also from Jupiter we find influences in its mechanical ability to apply self.

20. As to appearances in the earth, - while not all would be given here, we give those urges that are the more manifested or prominent in the present experience of the entity.

21. Before this the entity was in the French land, when Mesmer indicated to the scientific world those influences of the power of suggestion over minds, over matter, over disease of body or mind.

22. The entity then was closely associated with that entity, in the name then Marcheler. The entity gained, the entity lost through the experience; gained in knowledge, gained in material things for the time. But when such abilities and knowledge were applied to the gratifying of self’s own indulgences, these brought material deterioration and mental disturbance, - and conditions oft in the present of attempting to bluff self through. Yet high mental aspirations, high mental abilities are a part of the consciousness of the entity from those experiences, - but it will require that more courage, more physical determination, more spiritual application be exerted, - not only in self but in the dealings with others.

23. Before that the entity was in the Promised Land, during those periods when the Master walked in the earth; though the entity was among those of the Roman peoples in charge of the varied activities for the distribution of the varied groups through the land.

24. Thus the entity was given to sea service, yet came under those influences of the activities that later were a part of Paul’s relationship, and others of the disciples that were travelers in the later periods of that experience.

25. Thus the entity learned of spiritual imports. The abilities as manifested by Paul, by Peter, came under the entity’s sojourn in the latter part of the experience, when there was the full acceptance, because of the wreck of the entity’s crew, when there came the knowledge that these were inner forces of the soul, of the mind-soul.

26. Then in the name Petromus, the entity gained in the latter portion, and aided much in the dissemination of truth, of understanding, of the bettering of the conditions materially, spiritually, of many peoples through that era.

27. As to the present application from those latent urges, - study more and more those periods recorded in the Book, and they will become more and more a part of self, if there is the giving of self to same; not materializing, other than living, living self in the truth and the way.

28. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, when there were those periods of exile and of return. The entity was among those put by the King in charge of the Priest during the exile, as well as in those periods when there was the return to the spiritual direction there.

29. The entity then aided in that establishing of the mechanical activities, not only for lifting, hoisting, and the varied mechanical appliances, but aided in the vocational guidance to many.

30. Then the name was Ele-mer-en.

31. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, - these influences, to be sure, are latent and manifested. Apply self by first analyzing thine own purposes, thine own desires.

32. Then know Who is the author of same. Self glorified, or is it to be to the glory of God? Unless to the glory of God, have ye chosen wisely?

33. To be sure, only a few of the appearances have been given, but these are the ones that have the greater urge in the present.

34. Ready for questions.

35. (Q) What should be my life work? (A) As indicated, either as a teacher or lecturer, OR in some mechanical appliance - in the working of some mechanical appliance.

36. (Q) Where should I be located in civilian life? (A) That, too, must be the choice of self. Under those directions of someone, or more, who has an interest in the SPIRITUAL welfare first, THEN the material welfare.

37. (Q) Should I enter the U. S. Service, or wait to be drafted? (A) As we find, the entity MAY - if it chooses - find work, or find a greater service in mechanical ways that will be as great a service as in conflict areas.

38. (Q) What branch should I seek to enter, if I do this? (A) Any of those having to do with MECHANICAL training, or the handling of machines of varied natures.

39. (Q) Am I very psychic, and should I attempt to develop abilities in this direction. (A) As indicated. This depends upon the use to which such would be put, or the purpose to which these unfoldments would come.

40. (Q) Should I make out application concerning money due me from Washington? (A) To be sure.

41. (Q) Would it be best for my stepfather, […], to legally adopt me? (A) It would.

42. We are through for the present.

[Question not asked: Can advice be given thru this approach as to my nerves, and as to constant pain in head, and colds in head - apparently resulting from broken nose of years ago? Cannot breathe through nose.]

R1. 11/13/42 Letter from Mrs. [264] to EC: ”…Want to thank you and Gladys for the copy of [1460]‘s reading. Am so glad for him and for his mother of his capabilities and possibilities. And I am so thankful that he was released.

“[853] appreciated your prompt reply to his letter regarding the boy, and believes that possibly through you and Col. Edmund Wm. Starling that he got his freedom.

“[853] told her he would do all he could, which was practically nothing, as she would not tell what [1460]‘s offense was, how long he’d been in there, and how long he was supposed to stay. She kept saying that she did not remember. Bless her heart, I guess she was so worried and embarrassed over the whole affair that she just disliked to tell. She certainly worked hard enough to get him out. I do hope he will follow the reading. It offers him such a splendid opportunity to serve.

“Am going to write Mrs. [3914] a nice letter, and let her know of our continued interest…”

R2. 11/18/42 Mother’s ltr. to EC: “Reading received and many, many thanks and God bless you.

“We arrived here Sunday P.M…thinking of putting [1460] in Aircraft school here […, Ala.]…”

R3. 1/14/43 Mother obtained a second Physical Rdg. for him regarding his partial amnesia, loss of balance, etc. [See 1460-3.]

R4. 8/14/43 [1446]‘s ltr. to EC:

“Just a few lines to let you know that I haven’t forgotten you. Neither have I forgotten the time I was there with you. Sir, I appreciate what you’ve done for me very, very much. I can’t express in words how grateful I really am, but - you know how I feel Mr. Cayce. Well I decided that I wouldn’t write no one until I made good. Well I’ve worked like the devil since being here. I’ve really been on the ball since being down here in this DESERT, ha, ha. Swamp Stewart, WE calls it, ha, ha. Really tho they’re a swell group of men here in Battery B, they’re all tough as h… & I’m not kidding. We go out on the Range all the time, run obstacle courses & a million other things. We’ll be through with our training in eight more weeks now. I hope we get a furlough soon so I can get to go see Mom. Well Sir, I have a lot to do, and quite a few letters to write so will close for the present.” A very grateful Soldier, [1460]

R5. 8/18/43 Letter from EC to [1460]:

“I am glad to have yours of the fourteenth. I hope that you are feeling fine and have gotten into that phase of the activity that will give you the opportunity to use your abilities to the best.

“Well, I have only done for you, [1460], what I would want, if possible, for some other father to do for my boy if conditions had been reversed. I believe this is the way to live.

“I have heard others speak of Swamp Stewart possibly before you are through around there it will change a great deal of that, but as to whether it is to the advantage of the many or the few depends upon the attitude from which we review it.

“How long has it been since you have seen your mother? I haven’t heard from her in quite a while. Did you get a chance to read, ‘There Is A River’ while you were home last? What has become of […] [brother]? Has he gone to the West Coast or is he still in Washington? Both of our boys are now in the Army. One is overseas and the other is still in Ft. Meade. Give my regards and love to your mother when you write her and let us hear from you when you have the time to write. Take care of yourself. I know you know what to do, just be sure you do it.”

R6. 11/3/43 Letter from [1460] to EC:

“Well just got your address again, so decided I’d write you a few lines. I’ve been writing Mom regularly, at least once a day since being here. I’ve written […], Sr. [father] and Jr. [brother]. In fact I’ve written a lot more than I’ve received, ha, ha. Oh yes, did Mom tell you about me being engaged? Well I am, and to a ‘redhead’ at that, ha, ha [His mother was a redhead]. She’s been living in Chickasaw for the past few months. In fact she only lives a few blocks from Mom. I had a three day pass not long ago and I took her to meet Mom & Dad. And they’re crazy about her. The Sat. that I left, she went home with Mom to cook chicken & Dad [stepfather] had to go to work. And believe it or not he hugged her neck and kissed her good bye. Now that’s something for Dad, isn’t it? You know this is the first time, since I’ve brought girls to the house that he liked them. Well he’s crazy about snooks (my redhead). But you wouldn’t blame him tho, if you could meet her. Anyway she’s a good clean little lady, and boy, can she cook? Neat looking, & good housekeeper, can save her money etc. She’s been down here in the ‘Swamp’ once to see me too. We went to shows, danced & had a swell time. She & Mom are coming down this week-end to see me, I hope. And I’m doing lots better now. I’ll probably be able to walk to the service club & around the post with them. Boy, O boy, I can hardly wait. Well Mr. Cayce how are the folks down there, okay? Well give the Missus my love, & everyone else will you? I’ll be leaving here for the General Hospital in a few weeks, so I’ll be waiting for an answer from you real, real soon, so will close,” As always, [1460].

“P.S. Please excuse writing, am in bunk, ha, ha. Answer soon.”

R7. 12/13/43 EC’s ltr. to [1460]:

“I have yours of the 3. Most of my letters I have written you have been returned. I don’t know why, but they say you are not located around those parts.

“Well keep up the correspondence with mother, by all means. Hope you are feeling good, and everything is coming along alright with you.

“I note you are engaged again. Do you think this will take, this time? Well maybe its a very good sign for you when Mr. […] is quite taken with the young lady. I am sure that your mother will be pleased if she thinks you love her and she loves you.

“Most of us like good cooking and housekeeping, and if she can do these things, she must be alright.

“We have been plenty busy. When you know we have sent out 10,000 applications for membership to the association, you know what I mean.

“Hope that you keep in good line, and everything works out fine for you.

“Write whenever you have the opportunity, and with every good wish, ever the same,”

R8. 9/20/44 Mother’s letter to EC: “[1460] had 15 day leave, but was afraid trying to come this far California] for fear he might be a.w.o.l. - so he went to … [Ala.] instead. Looks like he will come this way, anyway…”

R9. 12/28/44 Mother’s letter to EC: “[1460] is now somewhere in England but is detached and doing M.P. duty…”
