This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of January, 1943, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [3914], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:30 to 3:45 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Alabama.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1460]; this we have had before.

3. As we find, the disturbances that exist, if there had been the complete application mechanically (osteopathically) of that suggested, most of these would have been eliminated.

4. There are many changes, as we find, that have come about since we had this body here.

5. The unfoldment, or the nominal development of physical activities of the body, has had somewhat to do with the changes; and some have been the natural, normal conditions.

6. These are conditions as we find them in the present:

7. In the blood circulation there are periods when sympathetically, and through nerve pressures as well as those pressures that affect directly reflexes in the brain forces, there is the indication of disturbance. While these pressures have not as yet formed lesions in any portion of the covering of the brain, by broken cell tissue, yet those deflections which exist in cervical and dorsal area do cause - in those portions of this reflex - a draining away of the blood, in a manner. Or, at other times it may cause a lack of the proper flow. Thus there are periods when there is the absence of the normal reflexes. Not as a spasmodic reaction, but rather as lapses, or losses of the coordination between sympathetic AND the brain flexes to the activity of the sensory forces.

8. It is not a mental condition, but produces mental reactions.

9. If those pressures had been removed, as were indicated in the dorsal and in the cervicals, when the body was more flexible, it would have removed much of these that at periods disturb in the present.

10. These cause also their deflections to those centers from which there are impulses in heart, in liver, in kidneys. Naturally it changes the respiratory activity. These are spasmodic, or periodic, rather than a continuous reaction.

11. But now it will require a longer period, and may cause some periods of reflection, or refractory reaction in the body.

12. These however, if done consistently, - the osteopathic adjustments, - will bring results. To be sure, these may be done by mechano-therapy, or any of the adjustments, but WE would give DO make them osteopathically.

13. And if these will be done in a consistent manner, over a period of four or five weeks; twice a week for that length of time and then a rest period of a month or two months, and then another series; with suggestion used through those periods of lapses of the application, with the correct attitude and a regular exercise - the setting up exercise in those rest periods, - we may bring bettered conditions for this body.

15. (Q) Is there any impacted tooth? (A) Teeth need local attention. We do not find those particularly impacted; some slow in their activity, and some need local attention. But a good dentist should correct these conditions.

16. (Q) Is there any trouble with his nose? (A) Naturally those pressures that have been produced by the falls on the back of the neck, the head, have caused the accumulation in soft portion of the nose. But the correct adjustments, and these made periodically, should assist in adjusting this - as this would be a part of the general treatment to face and head and neck, in such a course of treatment as outlined.

17. (Q) Do his psychic abilities have anything to do with his trouble? (A) These, of course, work one into another. At times they work against, and at times work together for help.

18. (Q) Will he overcome his sense of loss of balance? (A) If we will do these things, or if we HAD done them - these would not have occurred!

19. (Q) Will he become normal again? (A) This depends upon the responses and how consistently and persistently the adjustments are made. Do those things suggested, if we would have better conditions for this body.

20. We are through for the present.

R1. 2/22/43 Mother’s letter to EC: “About [1460], I’m groping again, so I prayed and asked for guidance - so I got my answer - and to this Dr. Fonville I went - ‘carried reading along’ - never saw him before in my life. He was an old deferred army doctor - had been deferred because of Auto accident. He understood everything - could tell me as much about [1460] as I could tell him - so he said an army or navy exam at any recruiting station would not show up [1460]‘s condition at all - He said only laboratory test would do the job. He thought it a down right dirty shame the Navy didn’t give [1460] a laboratory test - said, of course, - doctors wouldn’t reverse themselves - therefore threw [1460] in Brig - my blood simply boils…when I begged doctors there to carry him back to hospital - one doctor argued before the chaplain for over one and one half hours to carry [1460] back to hospital but the Dr. head of Cheasha Naval Hospital refused - said [1460] was only sowing wild oats - even told me this: Anyway laboratory test isn’t good at all. I’ll copy the report…and you can study [it]. Army Drs. found same as Dr. Fonville…that [1460] was alright physically only bad left elbow and closed up nose on left side, needing operation. Army Dr. here said ‘hell we don’t want a liability’. [1460]‘s Wasserman and Kahn test…proved negative; Army Dr. was shocked that Navy even took [1460] because of old compound deformed left elbow. Said if he became diseased it could settle in that bone and cause all kinds of trouble…of course none can touch [1460] until May no way…[he] is looking much better… Dr. Fonville said it would take 3 to 6 months for the cure

• providing we can keep him from going into convulsions even as many as 30 a day. [1460] is in bed today… He is like an alarm clock - runs until he runs down.”

R2. 2/10/43 Dr. Fonville, M.D.’s report:

“I have just completed examination of your step-son [1460] and wish to report the following findings:

Calcium 7.9 Phosphorus 4 Glucose Tolerance 63 Metabolism 32 Blood - Negative Urine - Some pus

“Your Son is abnormal in his glandular secretions as the above laboratory reports verify the findings. He should be under observation and treatment for an indefinite time. In the physical examination, there was nothing brought out other than an old fracture with deformity of the left elbow. I will report on the Wasserman and Kahn tests as soon as we hear from the State laboratory.

“Cases such as Mr. [1460]‘s usually respond to treatment very satisfactorily.

“Awaiting your instructions,”

R3. 3/18/43 Mother’s letter to EC - in which she describes the events leading up the job [1460] had and an auto accident he was in:

”…He had gotten [1460] a job at a Sheet Metal Plant…

”…He ran right into a pile of R.R. iron about 600 lbs. of it fixed by R.R. as a barricade, and of course [1460] went through the windshield.

”…They took [1460] to hospital, sewed his head - would have to be his head - up - took nine stitches in head up in edge of hair extending downward toward right eye - then three under nose toward right side of lip - so I certainly have had my hands full.

”[…] was in one bed, [1460] in other - both had to take lock-jaw serum, of course. [1460] got nose rebroken, knee hurt, but he is up and working now. Have cut stitches and bandages off - I could scream -

”[…] wasn’t home. But nose looks straighter - if Gov. would only pay [1460] I could then have out these impacted teeth and have [1460] take the treatments…” [Mother’s ltr. continues, asking EC to again write Col. Starling [Washington], or someone in Washington and see if he can get them to bring pressure, to get [1460]‘s money, etc. They had sent in Drs. ltrs. - Photostatic copy of ltrs., ‘notorized’ ltrs., etc. - to no avail].

R4. 3/30/43 EC’s ltr. to mother: ”…Had the opportunity to talk over the matter about [1460] with the man from Washington [Col. Starling] yesterday was here over the weekend - there is absolutely nothing I can do and he refuses to even mention it - said he had done all possible for him to do - so am up against a stone wall.”

B3. 12/28/42 Mother’s letter to EC: “[1460] is ill - he got soaked last night - was the hardest rain here since 1916; am doctoring him up. …I’d give anything to be able to sit down and tell you something about [1460], of course, on paper, I can’t make myself clear. I tried telling you all, but made a mess of getting over my main point when I went to the Beach last summer. I know my fears aren’t in vain. I know what I am aware of is true about [1460] - but how I’m to be certain of what I feel I do not know. Unless you can help me to finish what I know and feel is wrong. I know I still owe the ARE $10.00 more on last reading but have been waiting for [1460]‘s money to be sent from Gov., or […] returning to work. - so if you will give [1460] another reading - ‘Physical’ this time, of course. This trouble only shows up at certain times - sometimes once per month other times every other month - then sometimes every two or three months apart - have known it to show up every four months. Will be glad to explain my ideas before the reading. …The trouble must and will have to be found, so can be helped, and help can only come by finding out the true cause. I’m not alarmed - only convinced and positive. Now don’t misunderstand - [1460]‘s been a good clean honest boy since he’s been home and would amuse you how now, he realizes he isn’t like other boys…”
