This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of January, 1938, in accordance with request made by the wife, through recommendation and sponsorship of Mr. David E. Kahn, Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Rockland State Time of Reading Hospital, 11:05 to 11:25 A.M. Eastern Standard Time. Bldg. 10, Ward 89, Orangeburg, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [1513].

2. Now, while we find there is a better coordination between the mental and physical reactions in this body, unless there are other applications to keep this coordination, or to supply the activities to the nerve energies of the system, we find that with the realization that there is an improbability of being restored to active service the condition would become very much disturbed again.

3. For through pressures upon nerve energies in the coccyx area and the ileum plexus, as well as that pressure upon the lumbar axis, there has been a deflection of coordination between the sympathetic and the cerebrospinal nervous system.

4. Thus we find impulses for activities become very much exaggerated; while the activities of the hypnotic that has been administered and the sedatives have allayed the conditions and created rather a submissiveness in the impulses through added suggestions to the body, and the activities in which it has been engaged - the sorting of articles and the weaving in which it has been engaged has produced some better coordination.

5. But as we find, if there will be the administration of the elements that are the basic reaction of nerve impulse and plasm itself carried into the system in such a manner as to make for a revivifying of the energies through the creating in the glandular forces of the body the elements necessary for the replenishing of the impulses, these may be brought yet to an active service for the body in such measures that there may be a restoring of the mental forces and a better coordination.

6. This would necessitate also then the supervision of a sympathetic physician that would make adjustments in the coccyx and the lumbar centers; and the application through the low electrical vibratory forces that carry gold into the system - in the low electrical vibratory manner, that the activity may become such where the body mentally and physically may be not only active for itself but as a help for the surroundings - and not as a dread to the family and the connections thereof.

7. These we would do.

8. Then, when returned from the institution, the applications would be under the supervision of someone in sympathy with the needs of the body, that would make the corrections and also apply the low electrical vibratory forces as we will indicate:

9. The adjustments would be made in the beginning each day for ten days, and then may be made every third day.

10. And there would be applied the Wet Cell Appliance carrying the Chloride of Gold (in the proportion of three grains to each ounce of distilled water). Change the solution of the Gold at least every fifteen days. The attachments would be made as follows:

11. The small anode or plate would be attached first, to the 4th lumbar; while the larger plate - through which the Gold Solution passes - would be attached last, to the umbilicus and lacteal duct plexus, or four fingers from the umbilicus center toward the right - in a straight line.

12. This would be used each day for thirty minutes.

13. And keep the body-mind active in constructive thinking, expectancies for building up of energies for the restoration of the mental and physical abilities of the body of [1513].

15. (Q) What was the original cause, or what produced this condition? (A) A fall on the ice, injuring the coccyx end of the spine.

16. (Q) What caused the original pains in head? (A) Reflexes from those injuries to the pressures made upon the pineal centers.

17. (Q) What doctor in N.Y. will be best able to aid this man to get his mental equilibrium? (A) Anyone in sympathy with the conditions to be applied. But the adjustments should be made by the same.

18. (Q) How long will it be before he will be able to return to work, after leaving the institution? (A) It would require at least sixty to ninety days.

19. (Q) Should he be told that he has been put on the retired list of the Post Office department and will have to apply for reinstatement to active work, or what should be done under the circumstances considering his mental condition at present? (A) As has been indicated, to give the body the impression that it has been left entirely out, without there being some adjustments and some reconstructive forces done to make for a correction, will make for a greater derangement through the mental incapacities of the body - and will cause violence.

Then it will be necessary to make the applications and gradually build up the expectancy of the body for its abilities to gain an equilibrium necessary for active service in that department of the Service.

20. (Q) What can be said to him to assist to regain full confidence in his ability? (A) There must be the PHYSICAL reactions and the suggestions as the applications are made. And hold to the SPIRITUAL portions of such suggestions.

21. (Q) On his return home, what kind of exercise would be best? (A) Keep in the open as much as practical, but NEVER alone - until there is at least the opportunity for better equilibrium to be gained by the releasing of pressures and the building up to the glandular forces and to the activities from the electrical forces through the Gold Chloride in the system.

Do that.

22. We are through for the present.

R1. 1/8/38 EC’s letter (not dictated): ”…Do hope the suggestions for Mr. [1513] will be carried out. I feel sure it will be best for him as well as for the whole family. Will be anxious to hear from you about this. If there is any help we can give anywhere, am glad to do so. Hoping to have been of a service…”

R2. 3/26/38 Letter from [189] about [1513]: ”…Mr. Kahn had an all morning meeting with Hugh Lynn at Dr. Dobbins’ office on Monday morning for him to follow through on the original reading.

“I wish you could see what a fine upstanding figure of a man this Mr. [1513] is. He stands over 6 feet tall and is as broad and handsome a man as I have ever seen anywhere and his mind seems to function even more normally than mine. Yes, the doctors up here put him in an Insane Asylum and he had a terrible time getting out, when according to the reading an adjustment in the base of the spine would make him perfectly normal. It certainly is remarkable and the pity of it is that so few people can see the wonder of it. However, I feel certain that this man will be helped back to a normal existence and will probably live to a happy old age with his family…”

R3. 3/28/38 HLC’s letter to EC: ”…I saw [1513] this morning at Dobbins’ office. He is a very nice fellow and his reading checks up perfectly. …Dave was much interested in the case reading checked - so it seems he really did fall on ice some years ago…”

R4. 4/21/38 Dr. Dobbins’ report: ”…I have given Mr. [1513] some 14 treatments as per the reading and in my opinion the pressure should be relieved from the areas mentioned. He should have a check reading to find out what should be done next. It was unfortunate that he didn’t have the battery as it was to have been used in conjunction with the treatments…”

R5. 5/6/38 HLC’s letter to EC: ”…I got [1513] started off on his Appliance the first of the week. He thinks he needs a check up and Dobbins requested it, so you might get him in… Advise [1513] so he can arrange to be home. Enclosed you will find Dobbins’ letter to Dave…”

R6. 5/10/38 EC’s reply: ”…Making the appointment for check reading…Saturday A.M. Have Dr. Miller make the questions for the [other] reading, and if Dr. Dobbins will suggest questions for [1513] it will be fine. Have questions here before that time, PLEASE…”

B2. 12/31/37 Letter from David E. Kahn: ”…I have a very worth while case that I would like to get you to assist me with - […] who now is in the State Hospital at Orangeburg, N.Y. He is a brother-in-law of the nurse who was with Buddy and Dick for so many years. I am sure you remember…

“Mr. [1513] had a nervous breakdown while in the Postal Service from overwork, or so the doctors stated. They tell us he will now be dismissed in two weeks and will return to N.Y. The problem of the family is whether he will be able to assume the new duties, or what they should do under the circumstances. I am having an application signed by Mrs. [1513] and will ask you to give the Reading at the earliest possible date after Gladys gets home so I will be able to advise him what to do as soon as he returns home. You will find our check attached to cover the membership and the cost of the reading.

“Thanking you for your personal consideration, believe me, as always…

“(1) Will it be best for him to return to work in the Post Office Department immediately upon his leaving the sanatorium which is set? (2) Are there any dangers of the pains in his head returning? (3) Is there any adjustment necessary in the home for his wife and children to know so that they can make whatever changes are necessary upon the father’s return to the home? (4) In what way can his illness be discussed so that he will not feel that he has an inferiority complex? (5) What will aid this man to return his health physically? (6) How long will it take for him to regain his normal equilibrium?
