This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of January, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self, through husband - Mr. [1650], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 8:20 to 8:25 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Va.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time; giving the cause of existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions that may be asked:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, [1523]; this we have had before.

3. As we find, the acute conditions arise from the effects of a poison, - pyrene.

4. From this activity the acute indigestion as produced through the alimentary canal has caused an expansion of, and a blocking in, the colon areas.

5. As we find in the present, we would apply hot Castor Oil Packs continuously for two and a half to three hours.

6. Then have an enema, gently given. It would be well that some oil be in the first enema; that is, the oil alone given first, see? Olive Oil would be the better for this; about half a pint; so that there may be the relaxing.

7. And then give the enema with body temperature water, using a heaping teaspoonful of salt and a level teaspoonful of baking soda to the quart and a half of water. Give this gently at first, but eventually - that is, after the period when there has been the ability for a movement - use the colon tube.

8. Then we would take internally - after the Oil Packs and the enema - a tablespoonful of Olive Oil.

9. This, as we find, should relieve the tensions and relax the body sufficiently to remove the disturbing conditions.

10. These, as we find, are the disturbing conditions in the present.

11. That there are sympathetic reactions from the adhesions, as well as the conditions which exist in the organs of gestation, is a natural consequence. These are NOT hindering the disturbance in the present, since relaxation.

12. Do that.

14. (Q) Should she have any nourishment today? (A) Only liquids today; such as a soup, or gruel, or milk, or the like.

15. (Q) What was the cause of the poisoning? (A) Pyrene! Pyrene [See 1523-9, Par. R3], - a preservative upon the beans*.

16. We are through for the present.

• [GD’s note: Mrs. [1523] told us that she was at her mother’s house in the late afternoon of 1/20/40 and had made herself a raw vegetable cocktail in her mother’s new juicer, including some beautiful green string beans!]

R1. Subsequently Mrs. [1523] reported:

Jan. 21st, at 6 a.m. I had vomiting spells about every twenty minutes until the castor oil pack was applied at 10:30 [After 1523-9 at 8:20]. This gave me the first relief I had experienced. The Reading was followed to the letter. It took an hour to administer the enema - which relieved some of the stoppage in the colon areas. The feces was broken up sufficiently to pass and was a dark green.

Jan. 22nd. I was so sore - in muscle and organ that I could not move. (It required the help of three individuals to help me carry out my personal needs.) The Oil pack was used three days as the Reading gave - that is for two to three hours - etc.

Jan. 23rd. The soreness was more severe - treatment continued.

Jan 24th. Some improvement.

Condition continued to improve for several days. Oil packs were discontinued, and after about 10 days, the condition returned.

B1. See 1523-8 for pelvic condition, supposed early pregnancy, etc.

B2. 1/21/40 Brief of conditions which started the night before 1523-9:

Jan. 20th, at 8:30 P.M.: Extreme pain - reactions similar to that of acute indigestion AND ptomaine poison. This lasted for 30 minutes becoming so severe (running off of bowels and constipation) that a fainting spell resulted - after which I was momentarily relieved of extreme pain. Two double doses of soda water (bicarbonate) gave some relief of gas in the upper part of the body. Pain continued through the next hour becoming so intense that it was necessary to call physician. Dr. H. F. Dormire [H. Floyd Dormire, M.D.] was called and administered a hypodermic - advising liquid diet for several days. This lasted about two hours and a half - during which time I was very thirsty - drank about one gallon of water - As the hypodermic wore off a second attack became even more severe than the first. Dr. Dormire was called again, and administered a double hypodermic. Advised that I be moved to the hospital to be operated on for locked bowels - advising that another attack would very likely be fatal - saying that the hypodermic would probably last until five o’clock (when I refused to go to the hospital - the doctor agreed to return and administer another hypodermic if I called him - or found that it was necessary).

B3. GD’s note: Her father, Mr. [2051], came to be present for the early a.m. emergency rdg., saying Mrs. [1523] had been vomiting about every twenty minutes since 6:00 a.m. on 1/21/40.
