This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 5th day of August, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1551] Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:05 to 4:20 P. M. Eastern War Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with further suggestions for corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes (“Sort of a Bad bruise there!”) - We have the body here, [1551]; this we have had before.

3. A great many changes have taken place in the body since last we had same here.

4. If there had been the corrections made as we once indicated, when they were advised, those disturbances might not have occurred that are the basis of existent conditions.

5. As we find, this is NOT the beginning of the menopause, as yet; but it is a combination of disturbances from a plethora existent in one of the Fallopian tubes, - as well as a condition as related to that in the system itself.

6. It will depend upon the activities of the body, and as to the precautions taken, as to how well the body may respond to these applications, - which we find are the better in the present:

7. Begin with having an Atomidine douche each day for two days. To each quart of water, body temperature, - and use at least a quart and a half, - add a teaspoonful of commercial strength Atomidine. Use ONLY a Fountain Syringe.

8. On the third day use a Glyco-Thymoline douche. To the same quantity of water put at least a tablespoonful of Glyco-Thymoline. This, too, should be body temperature.

9. Continue using these, alternated in this manner, for at least fifteen days.

10. If there is then the tendency for a discharge, or a hemorrhage, it will be necessary for operative measures to clear the disturbance.

11. When this has been stopped, - that is, the hemorrhaging, - still keep the building up of the body energies. Take a great deal of beef juice and of liver extract, though in very small quantities at the time. Do not take this hypodermically, but through the mouth. Broiled liver and beef juice, but take only a small quantity of either of these at the time, - taking rather often.

12. Balance the diet well with citrus fruit juices, and a combination cereal such as of whole wheat and rye, or whole wheat, rye and corn. (Maltex?)

13. All of these are well to build up resistance for the body.

14. Also, when the hemorrhaging has stopped, use the Violet Ray Vaginal Applicator (of the Hand Machine Violet Ray, you see), which we have indicted and which has never been used as yet. Use it at least a minute and a half, twice each week.

15. Do these, if we would bring the better forces for this body.

16. Ready for questions.

17. (Q) Is it essential for me to have complete rest, or may I continue my work? (A) As has been indicted, until there is a staying of this tendency - by the body being on feet and overactive - it is essential to rest. Not that it is not to move about, but very light - and a good deal of quiet, being a great deal in the open.

18. (Q) Do I have a tumor? (A) It may become WORSE than a tumor, unless there are measures taken to allay this plethora in the Fallopian tubes!

19. (Q) Any other advice? (A) Do these things, as we have indicated.

Atomidine is manufactured and distributed by The Atomidine Co., 9 So 8th St., Mt. Vernon, N.Y., though you may be able to secure it from a NYC druggist. It sells for $1 a bottle.

The Violet Ray Hand Machine should be secured from your local drug or supply house for electrical appliances. You have to buy the attachments separately. Be sure to get with it the Vaginal Applicator. This treatment you may give yourself. You inject the applicator before turning on the electricity. Be sure to give it ONLY for the length of time indicated in the Reading, and NOT until the bleeding stops.

You asked about the price of Readings. A Check physical Reading, - that is, after you have had a First Physical, - is 10. Any full period Reading, - that is, one having a Reading for the first time, - is 20, that is, the membership is $20 which includes the Reading. It is necessary for each new person to fill out a membership application and send it in, before we can make an appointment. See sample of application [which was enclosed].

At your convenience, please let us know if you understand what is meant by the sentence injected at the beginning of the Reading, about a bruise. This is important for our records.)

R1. 8/20/42 Mrs. [1551]‘s ltr. to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I am enclosing the $10 for the reading made this month.

There seems to be a great deal of trouble about getting a vaginal ray applicator. So many of the electrical houses are not making electrical instruments.

Is this an ultra violet ray? What is the price of it? Where would you suggest that I go to buy it? Will you kindly give me full details about this instrument so that I will be sure to buy the right one. Also where to get it. Would there be any chance of my harming myself in using it? I have been told by a chiropractor that there would be a danger of such harm being done.

I cannot recall any bruise, tho I have tried hard to do so.

Please address me c/o my office, … St., as I shall have no specially permanent address for a little while.

P.S. I should like to have a copy of your book [There Is A River] but do not feel that I can possibly afford to buy it at the present time. Perhaps a cheaper edition will come out later and I may be able to invest in that one.

P.S. [PSS] I might say that since my original letter to you, describing my condition, I have not had any hemorrhage or discharge. In this case, am I go to on [to go on] with the violet ray treatment that you specify anyway? Or is that not now necessary? I don’t want to have the expense of buying a machine (which I will have to go in debt to get) unless it is necessary for me to do so. So will you please advise me explicitly. (From what information I can gather the price of violet ray machines range from 15 to 75.)

R2. 8/27/42 EC’s ltr. to Mrs. [1551]:

Dear Mrs. [1551]:

Have yours of the 25th with enclosure - thank you very much! Am glad you are feeling better. Oft times with the reading, individuals begin to improve at once. But the suggestion indicated should be carried out, as the first is only the preliminary, but such usually get marvellous results.

Sorry you are having trouble getting the Violet ray [hand] machine - you should be able to get this from any of the Chain drug stores. It is Violet ray not the Ultra Violet

• have bought many there with all the applicators including the Vaginal for 6 to 8 dollars. Believe you will find them in the Liggett stores. That is where have gotten them often. Don’t think there is any chance for harming yourself with the use of same. Of course, were you to use the Ultra Violet there would be - but with the Violet Ray - no. Never heard of any one having trouble with such - use only as directed and only as long as suggested. Think you will have no trouble at all.

Believe you can get this from the Liggett stores and feel sure with its use will have no more trouble provided the rest suggested is done also. Hope you obtain same.

Let me hear from you as to how you come along.

R3. 9/3/42 Mrs. [1551]‘s ltr. to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Thank you for your recent letter. I have covered Liggett stores all over New York and Brooklyn and they do not have the violet Ray machine. They said they did handle them some years ago but for some years had not kept them.

Yesterday I called at a medical supply house. There I found an old second hand one which they want 18. for. Said it was a "professional model" which cost new 25. They gave me enclosed books which came with it…and which I am to return to them. So will you kindly return these to me right away. It has several attachments for which I would have no use as far as I know at this time. The vaginal attachment is missing but they said they would get this for me at this price.

If you know of where I can get the one you want me to use… which is the 6 to 8 one, I wish that you would let me know. Perhaps you know of some one who has had use for one in the past and no use for it now and would be willing to sell theirs reasonable. The medical place that has this one said that the 6 and 8 ones you mentioned used to be carried by dept. stores and chain drug stores, but described these as just “toy” machines and not to be compared with this “professional” type that they want to sell me for $18 second hand. It must be very old as the handle of the leather case is almost worn out. Please advise what you think I should do.

R4. 9/4/42 EC’s ltr. to Mrs. [1551]:

Dear Mrs. [1551]:

Thank you for yours of the 3rd - wish could help you out, but if none of the chain Drug stores carry the machines any more; don’t suppose there is any place to get them other than the medical supply house. Think tho, would take the machine for 18 [dollars] if you can arrange to get that and if they will get the applicator for you that you wish.

Several here have been given the machines [in their readings] but all wish to keep them. So, if at all practical, would get this machine and use as has been suggested.

B2. 7/29/42 Letter:

“At this time I am in physical difficulty. I should like to have a physical reading, diagnosis. On May 5th this year I had a terrible vaginal hemorrhage, the bleeding continued for several days and finally I was hospitalized early in June and they told me I had a miscarriage, and that it had probably been caused by a fibroid tumor which their examination seemed to disclose. At any rate I bled almost continuously for 60 days, during which I became so exhausted that a blood transfusion was necessary, and also injections of liver, and doses of iron tablets followed to bring me back from the resultant anemic condition.

“Since that period, which ended about June 5th, I have been in the country trying to regain strength and energy with which to return to work. And seemed to be coming along alright until this week, July 25th, when I had another bad hemorrhage which occurred while I was lying quietly in bed around midnight. A local doctor was called who packed the vagina, gave me an injection and a dose of ergot. Now, three days later, I am still doing vaginal bleeding, tho not badly.

“I should like to know if I have a tumor, and if so what to do about it. Or, as it occurs to me, there is the possibility that the hemorrhages, bleeding, etc., may be due to an early menopause (I am 41) which may be commencing. I have no reason to know this to be true since my menstrual periods up to May 5th of this year have been regular (tho very scanty) and have lasted only for a day, and with no pains (tho with at least ten days of almost insufferable depression preceding the actual day of menstrual discharge).

“The doctor who came told me that if I had a fibroid tumor (as the N.Y. doctor had observed that I had when she made a vaginal examination) that I would be subjected to these hemorrhages any time, anywhere, and should not be overactive, since such overactivity would result in hemorrhage.

“My work requires constant activity, coming and going, and I am now in debt from all this siege of illness.

“I have great faith, since you diagnosed my child [1677] some two or three years ago, and your diagnosis prevented me allowing a ‘brain-tumor’ operation which the doctors said then was essential. Three years have passed and if they had been correct, the child would have become worse. The fact that HE IS WELL shows that YOUR diagnosis was correct, NOT THEIRS.”

1. Do I have a tumor? If so, what should I do about it?
2. Are the hemorrhages due to the beginning of menopause?
