This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of June, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1614], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., through courtesy and sponsorship fund of Mrs. [489], recommended by Dr. [1613] to Hugh Lynn Cayce at N.Y. meeting on May 24th. Miss [1614] is privileged to contribute to this sponsorship fund, at any time in the future she may desire, in order to sponsor another”s Reading who is unable at the time to take care of the membership fee.
[Edgar Cayce; Hugh Lynn Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading (Delayed on account of late mail) 12:15 to 12:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1614].
-
Now as we find, while there are physical disturbances which prevent the better normal reactions, in giving the causes and their effects upon the physical body much of that which is a part of the heritage of the mental AND physical must be taken into consideration.
-
There are the inclinations and tendencies towards a LACK of the influences to prevent portions of the body becoming rather lacking in sufficient energies to keep the system functioning properly; or there is a character of anemia.
-
From the physical angle, we find that these continue to bring disturbances; especially in the ducts and glands about the assimilating system. These are in the form or nature more of adhesions, that form in the LIKENESS of scar tissue.
-
Then, this drainage upon the system - as combined with the adhesions (in the lacteal duct and caecum area) - produces a pressure upon the nervous system that causes those reactions in which the body becomes highly sensitive to all the influences about it.
-
Hence at times, under stress, the effect of odors, the effect of noises, the effect of activities of individuals become as almost OPPRESSIVE to the body.
-
The reactions upon the nervous system produce at times periods of overexaltation, as might be termed, or over-nervousness; while at other times they become very depressing, with the inclinations for melancholia; becoming rather jerky; and the desire to be alone - while at other times the desires are just the opposite. Yet to all of these the reactions would be to become inclined rather to pity or to be sorry for self, or to blame self for circumstances or conditions with which the body physically or mentally has little to do.
-
Now as we find, these conditions may be MATERIALLY aided - as they have been - through suggestion, through care, through applications that would become more of a physical nature.
-
Then:
-
About three times a week we would apply heavy Castor Oil Packs over the liver AND the lacteal duct, as well as a portion of the central nervous system - or the umbilicus plexus, especially toward the right side. This would mean three to four thicknesses of flannel soaked in Castor Oil and applied as warm as the body can well stand, though not so hot as to burn the body. Leave these on for an hour to two hours. These as we find will relax the system.
-
Then with suggestion, with massage - gently given; and ESPECIALLY some corrections, with the massage, in the sacral AND the lower lumbar areas, we will find we may break up these conditions.
-
As medicinal properties we would add as a tonic the preparation called Codiron; this taken twice each day, and must be kept up for SEVERAL weeks, or until at least a couple of hundred tablets or pellets have been taken.
-
Each day we would also use the vibrations from the Radio-Active Appliance. This would be taken preferably twice a day, about twenty to thirty minutes each period, morning and evening - the last period being just before retiring, or after getting ready to retire. Circulate the attachments each time about the body in the manners as we have indicated for its use; that is: Mark one anode so it may ALWAYS be the one to attach first: Then:
-
1st period: Make the first attachment to the right wrist, the last attachment to the left ankle.
-
2nd period: The first would be to the left wrist, the last to the right ankle.
-
3rd period: First to the left ankle, last to the right wrist.
-
4th period (which in this case would be at the end of the second day, you see): First to the right ankle, last to the left wrist.
-
Thus a circle will have been made of the body; the first attached being the positive, the last the negative. Then commence over again. Continue in this manner for ten days or two weeks, then leave off a few days; then begin again - and so on.
-
These vibratory forces in the Radio-Active Appliance are only controlled in the body, you see; and are not active unless attached TO the body.
-
Also we find that the low electrical forces, as of ANY electrical vibrations, would be well for the body.
-
In the diet, keep to those foods that are body-building, blood-supplying; especially - not too acid, not too alkaline. These as we find would have to be judged rather by the reactions that occur, under the directions of one who may make the applications of the low electrical forces and the massage.
-
When the Radio-Active Appliance is attached, use such periods as the periods for meditation. In thy own words, yes - but after this manner:
-
See, feel, use the promises that are thine from the study especially of the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th of John. Let them be as words to THEE!
-
Then thy meditation:
-
“FATHER, GOD! IN THY PROMISES, THROUGH JESUS THE CHRIST, I CLAIM THY PROTECTION, THY LOVE, THY CARE!
-
“MAKE OF MY BODY THAT THOU SEEST AS THE BETTER CHANNEL, THE BEST CHANNEL AS A SERVICE TO THEE.
-
“RENEW A RIGHTEOUS SPIRIT WITHIN ME. KEEP MY WAYS DAY BY DAY.”
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/13/38 Letter by GD to Mrs. [489]: “Thank you so much, dear Mrs. [489], for your contribution received this morning. I was just wondering who would sponsor this lady’s [1614]‘s reading. I hope you have a chance to get in touch with her, or her physician, Dr. [1613]. He has been treating her without charge; it seems a peculiar case and he felt we could help her - or could help him to help her. Do you know this Dr. [1613]? He is a physiotherapist in N.Y.C. but it seems that he was a really wonderful physician in Germany. We had a Life Reading for him and his development seems to be great. He seems to be doing a lot of good in N.Y., helping a lot of people. Could you look in on him sometime, or talk to Miss [1614], and let us have a report from YOUR angle?”
R2. 6/14/38 Letter by EC to Miss [1614]: “Am just hoping you find your reading interesting, and that the application of it may bring the help you seek. Of course I may be entirely mistaken but when I went to give your reading and noticed that you were born in Bowling Green, a very peculiar thing came to me - think I must have made your picture years ago, when you were a little girl. I used to live in B.G., was there for years and think I knew your father. Am I right or all wrong? I’m sure there must be many people we must know. You possibly know Dr. John H. Blackburn, Dr. Stone, and many others that were among my good friends when I lived there. Am anxious to know about this, so be sure and let me know and be sure to tell Dr. [1613] about this, and if I am right in my surmise of course I have known you for some time. Please let me hear from you, and know there is no one whom I had rather be the means of helping than you.”
R3. 7/4/38 Letter: “I am so ashamed I haven’t written you much sooner. I did so much appreciate both your letter and the reading. (The reading harmonized with Dr. [1613]‘s diagnosis. I am starting to feel better now.)
“I wouldn’t be surprised if you took my picture when I was a baby in B.G., although I do not remember it. If ever you come to N.Y. do let me know for I would love to see you and discuss B.G. My grandfather was Mr. […] I hope someday to be able to have a Life Reading.”
“P.S. I wonder so why you failed to answer my questions?”
R4. 7/6/38 EC letter: “Surely will try and see you when we are next in N.Y., will be fine to talk over B.G., had many a fine friend there and love the place very much. It is where we went to live when first married, and our oldest boy was born there, so naturally we love the place very much.
“I believe your Life Reading would be very helpful to you. I know they sound very fantastic to those who have never thought of reincarnation, but I have come to believe it is a fact - and it is a way we can account for much that is not understandable otherwise.
“Questions possibly were answered in a hidden way, but when we have a check reading will try and get them answered for you if possible.”
R5. 3/20/40 Card: “Happy Easter. Always gratefully. Let me know when you come to N.Y.”
R6. 3/22/40 EC Letter: “Thank you for your Easter greetings, very lovely of you to remember us; will be in N.Y. 4/8th and hold open meeting at the McAlpin the evening of the 15th; certainly hope to see you while we are in the city.”
R7. 4/15/40 Letter: “I am so sorry I cannot come to your meeting tonight but I have a small W.P.A. job now and work from 1:30 to 10:00 P.M. Will you be in NYC any morning this week before Friday? On Fridays I work from 9 A.M. on. It would be lovely to see you. I hope that some time I will even be able to afford a reading when you are in NYC. Just now I am having a terrible struggle to live at all. My things are in storage and I am staying with Mrs. […], NYC… God bless you and let me know if there is any chance of seeing you. Always gratefully.”
R8. 4/23/40 EC letter: “I got home Sunday afternoon, had a busy two weeks in N.Y. It certainly was good to see you again - only wish it had been possible to talk with you at some length.”
R9. 11/25/40 Letter: “It was so very nice to hear and see you last Tuesday night. You see I have to work quite late some evenings on this W.P.A. job - until 9:30 certain evenings. I find I can’t get to hear you tomorrow night until very late. I am so sorry because I was hoping to come early and see you before the lecture if possible. I do so want to hear that lecture. I am so very interested in your work for I believe in it so. I spent this weekend in Montclair, N.J. with friends. I was talking with a very dear friend there about you, [4935], daughter of Dr. [1613] from B.G. I was telling her about you and she said only recently she had heard about you and of some remarkable cure of a child [773] in Westchester, from your reading [773]. If it works out so I can come tomorrow night, at any time, I’ll be there. It was so good to hear of your visit to B.G. There is just nothing I want so much as one of your life readings but on this W.P.A. job I can hardly exist, but keep my chin up and my courage high, and my faith firm. I was sorry not to see Mrs. Cayce.”
R10. 12/3/40 EC’s letter: “It certainly was nice to see and talk with you again. Of course after the night was so bad didn’t look for you, yet hoped against hope that you would come, for you have no idea how close you come to the best of me when you speak of [4935] if she is the one I think she is. Yes, I met Dr. [1613] soon after I went to B.G. He, as I recall, had a daughter and a son - knew him very well - he studied medicine and went to Calif. to live - is he still there or do you know. Once, though I’m sure [4935] doesn’t know anything about it, I gave a reading for her when she had appendicitis - she was operated on in Nashville. Many of the doctors were present but I am sure she did not know of it. Please ask her about it, won’t you, and let me know
- ask her to give me her brother’s address if she will.
“I do hope we can be of some help. If you wish and will write me, let’s make arrangements for your Life Reading, if that would be of interest or help. It might find the right thing for you; it has for many I know. Hoping to hear from you and to be of a service…”
R11. 12/6/40 Letter: “Thank you so very much for your cordial letter. I just sent it on for [4935] to read. Yes, she is a sister of Dr. [1613] in Calif. I was so disappointed to miss you that last night. I was out without overshoes (with holes in my shoes too) and without umbrella also. When are you coming again? Soon, I hope. I am so touched over your offering to give me a life reading. As broke as I am, if you offered me that or
100 today, I'd choose the reading (and it so happens I have less than5.50 in the world today to live on until the 16th. The W.P.A. pays us only a sustenance wage and often lays us off even two weeks at a time without pay.) What are the arrangements to be made? I have no money and I do not want to take advantage of your goodness, but I’d be so grateful clear through. My life has been so strange. Ever since I was a baby I’ve most wanted to help people and to grow and learn spiritually. I wish I knew what I am supposed to do in this world. I believe I must be here for a reason. I just couldn’t die when I was so ill. Life has held much pain and suffering but I never fear anything.”“P.S. I was born on 7/26/99 in B.G., Ky., about 5 P.M. Some say 6, others insist 5 P.M.”
R12. 12/9/40 EC’s letter: “Will be happy to arrange for the Life Reading for you - just let me make this my Christmas present to you - will get it in before Christmas if possible. So fill out the blank [which was enclosed], that the application may be regular - as is the rule of the Assoc. to comply with the State law, but no fee - it is my contribution to you with the hopes it may prove as helpful to you as such has proved in the lives of many through the years.
“I hope I may hear from [4935] and from her brother Dr. [1613] again - haven’t heard from him now for years. He with Dr. [1613] tried to get me to go to Vanderbilt once for investigation and study, but my own reading said no, so didn’t - but wonder - who knows?…
“Let’s hope this may be the best Christmas of your life.”
R13. 12/11/40 Letter: “With all my heart I thank you for your lovely letter and for your generous offer to give me a reading. There is just nothing I would rather have. I don’t know how to express my gratitude, but it is very heartfelt. Please feel my gratitude. I hope some day I can do something for you. Bless you. I wonder if in this reading I am to be at home, alone, quiet, at the time you are reading for me, like I was in the health reading. I work on W.P.A. and am not allowed to be absent for any reason, so I cannot be at home but certain mornings. For instance it happens I will be home Mon. a.m. Dec. 16th until 12, as I work from 1-9:30 that day. I will be home on Monday and Wednesday mornings starting Jan. 6th. Also I am home on Sats. and Suns. Do you read on Saturdays. I want to do everything in my power to cooperate for I hope I can use the results of this reading to help serve humanity and the great masters better. That is my heart’s desire.”
“P.S. Would you care to read any books on spiritualism and psychic research? I have several. It is what I am most interested in.”
R14. 12/16/40 EC’s letter: ”…We will try your reading the afternoon of the 18th, the Lord willing. If possible for you to be quiet, alright; if not, then just remember it about 3:30 to 4:30; not necessary for you to be alone or quiet - it is taken apparently from birthdate. Do hope we may be the means of being of real help…”
R15. 12/18/40 EC gave her a Life Reading - See 1614-2.
R16. 5/57 GD’S note: Codiron was later taken off market. EC frequently thereafter recommended instead White’s Cod Liver Oil tablets.
Background
Background
B1. 5/27/38 Letter: “Dr. [1613] tells me your son has arranged for me to have a Physical Reading without any charge [on sponsorship of member Mrs. [489]] as I have been ill and unemployed for a year and a half and dependent entirely upon friends. Dr. [1613] does not charge me. I am more than grateful to you. God bless you.”
B2. 6/1/38 Ans. from EC: ”…We ask that the person seeking keep the hour with us in prayer and meditation. Of course the reading can only be as sincere as the seeker. Also, if there are any special questions you wish to ask about your condition, please make note of them.”
B3. 6/9/38 Letter: “I shall be here in my own room at the time, at this address. I shall be in prayer for it also. As to any special questions: Can you tell me what is the real cause of my long illness and how I can get well and how long before I will be able to take up my work again? Also if there has been any evil influence connected with my long illness and if so what I can do. I have been given to believe there has been an evil influence but I have felt that if I had enough faith in God that nothing could really harm me for too long, that good is stronger than evil. I hope you can tell me just what is the real trouble and what can be done to get me well. My Dr. [1613] suggested these questions for me to ask. He has been so good and loyal to me, no charge on his part. Again I thank you and God bless you.”
