[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]

GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions that may be asked.
-
EC: (In going back over years from the present - ” - 1916 - changes - ” etc., on back to birth date.)
-
Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called Miss [1614].
-
In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, these as interpretations are chosen with the desire that this may be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling it to so analyze self as to fulfill - in a greater measure - those purposes for which it entered this experience.
-
For, each soul enters not perchance, but that there may be that fulfilling of those promises in Him. He has not willed that any soul should perish, but has with each temptation prepared a way of escape. So, each appearance is an opportunity for the soul - in its relationships with conditions, experiences, times AND the fellowman - to manifest that it has stressed; that ideal which draws one closer to or separates one from that Creative Force.
-
In analyzing the records here of the entity, these as a composite of astrological sojourns, as well as the material or earthly experiences, we find as tendencies and inclinations, latent AND manifested in the INDIVIDUALITY of this entity:
-
One that is naturally, by inclination, of a jovial nature; and inclined to be of a stout build; yet one that sees a greater value in those purposes and aims of individuals than is seen by many with whom the entity may be associated.
-
One of an independent nature, yet tending - under stress - to be of a communistic tendency. This may be done to excess.
-
Finding disturbances in the experiences of others, in whatever their status of activity may be, to the entity there is little thought - oft - as to the deserving, or as to the cause of same.
-
This, to be sure, is another phase of the communistic tendencies, - as may be a part of the entity’s experience.
-
These are, of course, good or bad; dependent upon the manner and purpose of their application in the experience.
-
Astrologically, we find Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus as the greater influences; not because these were at their height or the greater ruling planets at the time of the entity’s birth, but because of the entity’s sojourning in that thought or environ as expressed or manifested by such.
-
Thus we find those inclinations as indicated, that become as a conglomerate activity or urge at times; and confusions arise, and changes are brought about.
-
Hence there may be indicated to the entity a MANNER (if chosen) through which a great deal of activity may be brought about to relieve this disturbing force of discouragement, discontent, because of the APPEARANCES in the experiences of others of hate, malice, jealousy and their KINDRED urges.
-
As to the appearances in the earth, these have not been so many in number that aid or cause disturbances in the present. For, much has been accomplished by the entity in the turning within for the divine guidance.
-
Trust not any influence that denies the Sonship or His coming into the earth!
-
Before this, then, the entity was in the land of the present sojourn, during the early settlings in what is now the Mohawk valley, during those periods of stress.
-
The entity found itself entangled in the desire to help natives, - the abilities to counsel and aid in many ways with those who were establishing homes and communities in the early settlings.
-
With the disturbances that came about, great mental anxiety was brought to the entity; at times finding expression in the physical anguish also.
-
The name then was Sallie Sanmond. In the experience the entity gained until there were those influences builded in which it tended to make for condemnation of those who were not understanding the attempts of the entity in correlating the activities of individuals who were not as well fitted mentally OR by circumstance to cope with the varied situations.
-
Hence in the present, any of that activity in which there is social service, or a philanthropic activity for the betterment of those under-privileged individuals, will be a channel through which the entity may find the greater outlet for its abilities. However, this will necessitate that the entity keep self from being too much in the communistic trend. While the ideas of a communistic nature are well, as indicated, they are not IDEAL when expressed or manifested in relationships to REAL social service. For, such activities should arise by and through the promptings of the spiritual, rather than wholly the material gains from same.
-
But in those fields of service may the entity find itself, not only in the abilities of the entity but in giving expression to that which has so long prompted, and does prompt, the activities of the entity.
-
Before that the entity was in the Promised Land, during those periods when the Master walked in the earth. The entity was among the young, or children, blessed by the Master in those days, or that period, or that day when the five thousand were fed.
-
As we find, the entity’s growth, development, mentally and materially through that experience, were oft determined by MATERIAL circumstance. Yet there were those periods when the whole reliance upon the faith in those promises made manifest in Him held the entity to an experience of helpfulness to others.
-
The entity’s acquaintance and association with many of the close followers of the Master brought periods of turmoil and persecutions from others; and these are the experiences in the present which at times bring the feeling of resentment towards others that were prompted to bring the turmoils physically by the activities in and through that sojourn.
-
Here we find again those inclinations, tendencies, urges, desires to always minister to the needs of those unfortunates in any sphere of activity; though the entity must lean heavily, oft, upon the arms of the Master.
-
Hold fast to that faith, that promise. Repeat oft in thy consciousness that prayer, “Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us, O Lord, as we forgive.” These, and not the material things as apparently arise, shall be the light that guides, the way that holds, the manner of expression. For, there will come the experience in this sojourn of much material things to be distributed by this entity; those of self’s as well as of those who are less capable to perform such services - because of social or moral activities.
-
Hence, the holding fast to that faith, that hope in Him, may not be stressed too much.
-
The name then was Jaelorn.
-
Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, during those periods of activity in which many were presenting themselves for purification, for activities to BRING others into the world through the body and mind purifying.
-
The entity was among those who were born of such parents that there were those indeterminate forces which brought disputations among some. Yet, coming under the closer direction of those in the Temple of Sacrifice and the Temple Beautiful, the entity grew to be one that was later worshiped, - as of those who had shown the way to many.
-
The name then was Sim-Ehln.
-
As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how:
-
Put from thee all those forces or influences that would make thee afraid or doubtful. Know that thy body is indeed the temple of the living God; there He has promised to meet thee.
-
Then, turn oft within, relying upon those promises in Him - as ye did through that sojourn in His land, in His ministry. Be thou a minister to others through those channels that have been indicated, in which ye may stand oft in that position of bringing not only the material aid but the mental and spiritual assurance. For, this activity oft finds great discouragements; yet He has promised, “I will never leave thee, so long as thou CLAIMEST me as thy guide.”
-
He blessed thee in the flesh. He will bless thee again, if thou holdest to that purpose; putting away strife, jealousy, malice, condemnation. Condemn not, if ye would not be condemned.
-
For, the law of the Lord is perfect; it will LIGHTEN the burden of materiality, IN the thoughts and the mental attitudes towards His spiritual affluence in the earth.
-
Let that mind be in thee as was in Him, “Thy will, O God, be done in and through me; yet I claim, I desire, I EXPECT his strength to sustain me.”
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 12/18/40 [1614]‘s letter to EC: ”…I had your letter last night about my reading today and have been with you in thought all day. My gratitude has been flowing out to you. I look forward with deep appreciation to receiving it… I had a lovely letter from [4935] today. She tells about someone in Madison, Conn. who had an ill girl-child whom you read for and the child was cured by following your reading. She had a skin disease, and all the doctors had pronounced the child incurable. You found she needed gold in her system. The mother of the child sent in [4935]‘s name to you then. She says her brother is now located in Nashville and loves it…”
R2. 12/19/40 EC’s letter to [1614]: ”…Just hope your reading gives you as much pleasure as it did me good trying to be of help. I would not try to analyze it too much at first - read and put it away for a day or so, then get it out and study it closely. If there are any questions, then let me try and help you get the most out of it. I feel sure you, like most, can make much from it if you do but apply the suggestions made. Here is hoping you have the loveliest Christmas ever - and may the Christ be with you ever…”
R3. 12/20/40 [1614]‘s letter to EC: ”…I found my reading when I got home from work last night. I just feel helpless to express my gratitude the way I feel it. It is very heartfelt and sincere. I am most interested in the part of my reading that says I was one of those who were blessed by Jesus Christ on earth and that I must not trust any influence that denies His Sonship or His coming on earth. You see, the supreme desire in my life has always been the idea that I want to be worthy of Jesus’ love. I’ve always loved Him above all else in life. Many have said they have seen few who are so conscious of His living presence as I am. I think of Him as my closest friend, always near. Then the second desire in my life, after longing to grow spiritually and being worthy of His love, has been to serve humanity and to be worthy to be used by Jesus and the White Brotherhood. Then I’ve never been willing to embrace any faith that would deny His divinity. I lost the dearest friend I ever had because I couldn’t accept Christian Science as my religion as she does. I felt it didn’t accept His divinity. Then, while I have studied and do study all religions, yet I’ve always felt I got more truth within myself. I have lived on my faith and it is only my faith that has kept me going on through so much
- tragedy, ill health and financial lack. Material things have never mattered to me. I’ve always cared only about growth, people, beauty, children, color, music, and books. That was why my parents couldn’t understand me. I hungered for spiritual things as a wee child. I’ve always keenly felt the pain and sufferings of others, and have loved people regardless of their station in life or creed, or their past. With all my heart I do truly thank you. Could I please have about twenty-five of the white leaflets telling about you and your work to pass around…”
“P.S. Would you care to read any books on spiritualism? I have some very fine ones.”
R4. 12/26/40 EC’s letter to [1614]: ”…As you study your reading closer from time to time, I believe you will find, like most others, that it will grow on you. I just hope you will get real help and stimulation from it. Yes, the gist of the whole matter with the readings is Jesus the way, the truth and the light. If we can only get that consciousness and keep it close, it will make all different in our lives…”
R5. 1/10/41 EC’s letter to [1614]: ”…Thanks for your card today. Here is hoping and praying all is well. The card expresses my sentiments. I feel at times like the fellow who pasted such on the head of his bed, then each evening as he retired said, ‘Lord, them’s my sentiments.’ All too often it is just that. We fail to live it each day. It is only sentiment. It’s like being in love and having to do all the loving yourself. I am sure you will be pleased to know I have heard from several of the people whose names you sent me. Several have spoken very lovely of you also…”
R6. 3/4/41 [1614]‘s letter to EC: ”…I think of you very often but never worked so hard in my life as now. Same W.P.A. job. I just can’t get anything else done but work. My gratitude is always flowing out to you. God bless you…”
R7. 3/6/41 EC’s letter: “We often think and speak of you and wonder how you are. I trust everything is working out for you alright. Recently I had a very vivid dream about you - thought we were in B.G., you had asked my wife and me to go with you - you were seeing about the settlement of some property. Funny, wasn’t it? The cards and poems you choose are lovely - each carries a message that is very worth while.”
R8. 3/9/41 Letter: “Spending week-end in bed trying to get over flu germ. Had to work all week with temperature 100. It was hard. When is your birthday, please? When will you be in N.Y. again? I now work 3:30 to 10:00 P.M. Still on W.P.A.”
R9. 3/11/41 EC’s letter: “Your card is lovely [A DOCTOR PRAYS by Ruth Winant Wheeler. [1614] said on it: ‘I always think of you as a doctor.’]. Would that all doctors worked in that spirit. I am sure many do. It always appeared to me that they have such an opportunity to speak of God’s love and His presence.
“I think we may be in N.Y. in Apr. or May this year - don’t know as yet, for both boys will have to go to camp - one possibly in May, the other in June. My birthday is Mar. 18th; was informed last evening that there would be a birthday party at my house on that day. Many of the groups in Norfolk have been kind enough to make it a State occasion for several years now.”
R10. 4/2/41 EC’s letter: “Thank you for your Easter greeting. Sorry you are troubled - will have to remind you as someone did me - WHY WORRY - WHEN YOU CAN PRAY.”
R11. 4/11/41 EC’s letter: “Thanks for your card - The Fellowship of Pain - very beautifully put. While suffering comes to each of us, it certainly has been glorified for those who trust in the Christ Jesus… All is quiet on the ocean front at Va. Beach. Only one of the boys - the youngest - has to go to camp tomorrow - isn’t easy for his mother, and she hasn’t been so well this spring either. All must do their duty I’m sure, but it is not easy to struggle along to give them an education and then just when they are getting started in business have to go away - but the world seems all in a muddle. We each have to meet ourselves I’m sure.”
R12. 3/18/42 Letter: “Am thinking of you so much and wishing you a very happy birthday. These are truly testing days for me. How are you? No news with me.”
R13. 3/20/42 EC’s letter: “Thanks for remembering my birthday. I wish you might have been present the other evening at the party - I think I have told you the folks hereabout and in Norfolk have for many years now - six or maybe eight - had a party for me on my birthday - this year no exception. My, how they spoil me! all so nice and each with a little package or card and eats - well, most too much of that, for even just tasting something of each upset me, but feel better today - just hope I can and will be worthy of all the confidence they each seem to place in me. Think of you real often and hope all is well with you.”
R14. 12/18/42 [1614]‘s Letter to EC: ”…Have been working here [employment agency] since October 1st. I like the work but earn very little, as I am on a commission only, no salary. Long hours; 8:45 to 5:30 to 6 p.m. I’m grateful to be well enough to work though. If you know anyone who wants a job in NYC, please send them to me…”
R15. 12/22/42 EC’s letter: ”…I think now we will have a meeting in N.Y. the latter part of January. I will certainly notify you. I was in Bowling Green this last summer. Many changes there, yet many of the old faces. The town complaining that the War opportunities have passed it by, and many people had gone to work in war plants. Hope you have a nice place now and things are going well for you. Hope you have a very lovely Christmas…”
“P.S. Dr. [1613] is in with someone else now. We will be glad to refer anyone to you that we know is coming that way.”
R16. 3/17/43 EC’s letter: ” Thanks for remembering my birthday. Was in N.Y. for several days about the 20th of Jan. Do not know whether I will be there again this spring or not - possibly will. If so, do hope to see and have a talk with you. Have you seen the book THERE IS A RIVER? Do look at it at some of the bookstores there, and if you get a chance read it and then tell me what you think of it. Hope everything is alright with you and that you are feeling fine. Was in B.G. last fall - many changes there since I was there - many of the old faces, though, are still there. Thanks again, and let me hear from you more often.”
R17. 12/3/43 [1614]‘s Letter to EC: ”…I think of you so very often, even though I do not seem to get letters written. I wonder so how you are. I love my work, but I work long hours and go home and drop into bed too tired to write letters. I did not have any vacation this summer. Both my room and my office were very hot. I also had a mean accident. However, I have not missed one day’s work since I came here on February 8th [another employment agency]. I am so grateful to be well again and able to work steadily. For so many years that streptococcus bug just about got the best of me. Apparently all the sulfa drug that was given me two years ago has made me much better. I only wish I did not tire so quickly. I usually sleep all weekend because I get so tired during the week. On October 1st I moved to… It is a rather small apartment on the top floor walk-up. However, it is very quiet and has good air. These are the things I most need. Also I have across the street from a very dear older friend, which means a lot as I see her quite often. Also I do not have to use the crowded subways now as I can come down on the bus in the morning, and often I walk home. New York subways are so crowded and it takes more energy than I have to cope with them.
“I am thinking of you so much at Christmas time, and at this season, I again send my deepest gratitude for all your goodness to me… I thought of you on your birthday, but do not get birthday cards out as much as I used to. I often interview up to one hundred people a day here, and sometimes work ten to twelve hours a day, so you can see I do not have much time left over to either write or dictate letters. I keep my secretary busy with business correspondence. I have to trust my friends to understand and know that I love them even though I do not write. Blessings on you and I do hope you all have a perfect Christmas wherever you are. No more time now, but this brings you and Mrs. Cayce all my love, and with high hopes that before too long, I shall be seeing you…”
R18. 2/1/44 EC’s letter to [1614]: ”…I suppose you have given up the idea of hearing from me anymore, but I have been so busy that I have almost neglected my personal friends too long. I was disappointed that I did not get to see you while I was in New York in November, but I am sure you were busy, or possibly like so many others, came and couldn’t get in. I trust you are feeling a lot better and that your work is going along well…”
R19. 3/8/56 [1614]‘s letter to HLC: ”…I wonder if you remember me? Your father knew me as a child. He took all my baby pictures in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and was so kind to me… a very fine and true person. Now, January 1938 or February 1938, about that time anyway, he did a health reading for me. I lived at … then. Then later, after I saw him a few times in New York City after his lectures, he wrote me and told me as a Christmas gift he wanted to give me a Life reading and he did. It was most inspiring and I have taken such good care of it all these years. Burglars got into my apartment and ransacked and destroyed quite a number of my precious papers; especially I can’t find the two readings. Is there any way I could get copies from your files? They have meant so much to me. I even carried the Life one in my suitcase whenever I went away. That one was made around 1939 or 1940 I believe, and I lived on … Street. I was ill and out of work then. Please let me hear soon. A million thanks, and God bless you. I think about your father so often, always gratefully…”
