This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of June, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1623], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Dr. Charles G. Taylor - through Hugh Lynn Cayce and David E. Kahn.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Henry W. Hardwicke, M.D.]
Time of Reading 11:10 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body called [1623].
-
As we find, there are disturbing forces of a complicated nature that disturb the physical reactions with this body. These, arising from the infection reaction producing a heaviness or lack of movement between the muscular reactions and the irritations in same, are effects.
-
Then, these are conditions as we find them with this body, Mr. [1623], we are speaking of:
-
THE BLOOD SUPPLY, this indicates that there was first an unbalancing in the metabolism of the system, and congestion through the activities of the assimilating forces or system as related to liver, pancreas, spleen, and a lack of coordination with the excretory forces of the liver.
-
And for same, as we find, there have been misapplied conditions. Hence we have had an infection arising, producing - through the toxic reactions in the alimentary canal, and through the nervous system - a breaking of coordination between the sympathetic or vegetative and cerebrospinal nerve systems.
-
This accounts for the irritations to portions of the superficial circulation, as well as the inability for the body to rest, also for the impressions the body receives of disturbing influences and forces about the body.
-
It is not a mental condition wholly, yet its reaction to the sympathetic system, through the sensory reactions, gives that very reaction to the BODILY functioning in the system.
-
Hence the arthritic reaction at times, the conditions as effects to the sensory organisms - both the auditory as well as to the vision; for all become a part of the general disturbance.
-
IN THE ACTIVITY OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM, centers along the cerebrospinal system, where there is the greater coordination between sympathetic and cerebrospinal, have become very sensitive - at times.
-
Hence from the 9th dorsal we find reflexes to the lower portion of the hepatic circulation. Hence conditions that would be involved in the glandular forces in association with the activity of kidneys - which would again account for the character of poisons and the pressures upon the nervous system that affect portions of the sympathetic - or the organs of the sensory system.
-
The centers about the coccyx and the lumbar plexus also show areas where pressures are indicated. These reflexes also to the vegetative center, or that just between the cervical and the dorsal or secondary BRACHIAL center, produce the repressions that cause the inability of the activity through the branches of the breathing - or the respiratory system.
-
These become a portion at times of the mental reactions; as it is the incoordination between cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems.
-
IN THE ORGANS THEMSELVES, as indicated, these are reflexes to the organic reactions throughout the whole of the system, though specific disturbances in the liver and the circulatory forces between that and the heart and the lungs give the fullness and a SOURCE from which - with the other disturbance - we have the arthritic reaction.
-
THEN, IN MAKING ADMINISTRATIONS FOR HELPFUL FORCES FOR THIS BODY:
-
We would first correct the subluxations that exist in those specific centers along the cerebrospinal system, namely: The 9th dorsal plexus AND the contributory reactions; the 4th lumbar axis; and raise the coccyx end from the pressures upon the nerve ends of the lower portion of the cerebrospinal centers. Then we would coordinate these with the removed pressures in the 1st, 2nd dorsal and through the lower cervicals. About twice a week should such corrections in the osteopathic manner be made.
-
Also we would begin with the vibratory forces from low electrical forces carrying Gold into the system - the acid yellow Gold; the proportions being three grains to an ounce of distilled water. The vibratory reactions from this are some different from the Gold taken internally or hypodermatically, and will be to produce to the nerve reactions the abilities for BETTER coordination in their activity. The application of same would be through the lower forms of the electrical vibration, as from the Wet Cell Appliance; making the attachments as follows:
-
The small copper plate would be attached first, to the 9th dorsal plexus; while the larger nickel plate, through which the Gold Solution is to pass, would be attached last - to the umbilicus and lacteal duct plexus. Not exactly over the gall duct area, but those centers or plexus just below same - a little area there.
-
Such attachments of the Appliance would be made each day for twenty minutes, preferably as the body is ready to retire, or rest.
-
A gentle massage after the use of the Appliance, and a massage only, is well.
-
For keeping better assimilation we would take Alcaroid after the meals, only twice each day; about a quarter teaspoonful following the morning meal, and nearly half a teaspoonful after the evening meal - about twenty to thirty minutes afterward.
-
In the matter of the diet: Here we find the cleansing diet first would be preferable; principally all characters of fruit or vegetables - principally RAW vegetables, and most of the fruits raw. These would be taken for five to six days, to cleanse the system.
-
Then the cereals with milk of morning; a raw vegetable salad for the noon meal; and well-cooked vegetables for the evening meal - though a little meat may be taken if desired, such as fish, fowl or lamb. NEVER any fried foods.
-
Do these and we will bring the bettered conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/8/38 “Both Mr. [1623] and I have been deeply impressed with the reading’s contents and will follow the directions accurately to the best of our ability… I have another patient suffering from the same ‘disease’ from the standpoint of classification… Will you kindly let me know the expense of such a reading?”
R2. 7/20/38 Dr. Taylor’s letter to EC:
“I am hastily writing you in regard to your very kind offer to give my poor patient a free reading. I am very sorry to say that he has unexpectedly already left for Italy and this of course means that a reading would be impossible. Again many thanks.
“I shall send you shortly, as you request, a history of Mr. [1623]‘s case. [GD’s note: Later we learned that Mr. [1623]‘s condition was classified as multiple sclerosis.] Dr. Dobbins has been kind enough to write the directions for an osteopath in … so that he may properly carry out the treatments. We are still waiting for the arrival of the electric machine. Mr. [1623] is heartily cooperating and full of hope…”
R3. 8/11/38 [1623]‘s letter to EC:
“As Dr. C. G. Taylor has gone away for a vacation, he has asked me to reply to your letter of July 18th.
“May I request a check reading on my physical condition sometime after the 29th of this month? Dr. Taylor has agreed with you that a few weeks should elapse, since we have found a local osteopath. I am enclosing my check of ten dollars, as you stated in your letter is the fee for check readings.
“When you give me the time, I shall mail you some questions we should like to submit for this reading. Also I shall be in my room, in my one and a half story house, three miles from the center of the town of …, Conn., on the … road. My room is on the second floor, on the northwest corner.
“Thanking you for the assistance you have so far rendered me…”
R4. 8/22/38 [1623]‘s letter to EC:
“Thank you for your letter of the 15th, and I shall be in my room on August 31st, 3:30 P.M., EST. I am somewhat improved, and have confidence in your assistance, Dr. Taylor’s help, and my own conviction to eventually be totally well.
“Here follow the questions:
“Are the disturbing factors in my body causing the infection, or is there a definite infection causing these disturbing forces which break up the coordination on my organs and nervous system?
“How can the heaviness in my legs be relieved?
“How can the fussy feeling in my fingers and toes be eliminated?
“How can the feeling around my body, at the lower part of my ribs as if tied, be relieved?
“My hearing has gradually grown worse, especially my left ear has been steadily whistling since last October; can this condition be cured?
“As medical science has been unable to find - hence to isolate - the germ of my disease, is there one? Can the above be accomplished?
“Can you give me a larger diet than in your reading of June 30th? Are eggs, custards, pies, cakes and articles made from eggs; sherry, wines, liquor, beer; milk, buttermilk, cream, ice cream, maple syrup, candies, honey, sweets, coffee, beef and veal injurious for me?
“Is my liver causing a poison in my system, or is there a poison in my system disturbing my liver? I urinate almost every two to three hours at present. Can this condition be corrected?
“About 4 P.M. I accumulate a great deal of gas. What is the cause?
“For the last four weeks I have used your suggestions as to restricted diet, osteopathy, Wet Cell carrying gold, use of Alcaroid, and have slowly improved, but very slowly. But I still have troubles as stated above and am still unable to do very much, if anything that I can count upon. Shall I continue your previous suggestions, or have you others you now suggest…”

B2. 6/15/38 Dr. Taylor’s letter to HLC:
“I regret very much that I could not have seen you during your recent sojourn in New York.
“I am writing you in regard to a physical reading for Mr. [1623] who is not only a patient but also a very dear friend of mine. I would prefer not to tell him of the reading although I know he would approve of it. However, if you feel that greater cooperation would be obtained for Mr. Cayce by apprising him of the fact, I will certainly do so. Mr. [1623] is at … Street in my apartment on the 4th floor front. I shall arrange for his being in the living room at whatever time requested on any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Naturally, I would like as early a reading as possible. Will you kindly let me know any further details we should carry out and I will send you a check by return mail…”
B3. 6/21/38 Dr. Taylor’s letter to HLC:
“Thank you for the appointment for Mr. [1623] for June 30th, between 10:30 and 11:30 A.M., EST. for a physical reading by your father.
“I have spoken to Mr. [1623] as you see by the enclosed, and he is anxious to cooperate in every way. May I ask you to send the report of the reading to me for I would like to keep all the records in following the case.
“With kind regards to your father and yourself, and wishes for your success in the coming Congress…”
