1. EC: Now, we have those influences and conditions as disturb the body of [1690].

2. As we find, if there is the continued flooding, it would be well for operative measures to prevent this great strain upon the vital forces of the body so reducing the strength and vitality as to cause greater distresses on already weakened forces of the system.

3. We would advise, then, the consideration of operative measures for the stopping of this flooding.

4. We are through for the present.

R1. 4/8/39 Mrs. [1690]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Cousin Edgar:

I know you will forgive me for not writing to you but you know well the conditions and strain I’ve been under. [1089] wrote you about me, well last Wed. a week ago my conditions got worse, so I stayed in bed from last Sat. thru Tues. I had been in this condition for nearly two months and felt I should do something, so went to Dr. Clardy and he advised operation. [1089] said to ask you first to see whether that was necessary. [E…] came down Sunday afternoon and [M…] and [1089] went back with her and stayed until Tues. night. Your telegram came Monday noon and that same afternoon I began to hold up gradually and now the flow is very scant that is fine, but I’m so nervous maybe an operation would be best anyway even tho I’m better. Do you think there is any danger of cancer later on? Did you say why you gave my reading without suggestion or name being given? Such wonderful work you do for others. May God bless you every way. Tomorrow my angel mother [1181] will be gone two months. How we do miss her. Our home seems empty without her but I know she is happy and at rest. Dear Aunt [3776] was next to my mother.

Cousin Edgar, I have wanted to write to you for months but I’ve been so restless and nervous just couldn’t. Wish I could be with you and talk a long time with you. [1352] seems disgruntled with everything, doesn’t know what to do. [1089] the same way, [M…] looks so thin and bad, grieves and worries too much. I advise and do the best I can, but I can’t help but worry about them all. In other words we are up and can’t light. We need Christ in our lives more. Well I can’t write much but please know that we love you dearly and always will. What would you advise now that my condition is better one way?

I know this letter sounds flighty but that’s my feeling. You are so good to us, always ready to help even no material return, but I appreciate it. Let me hear what you think about my condition.

R2. 4/10/39 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1690]:

Dear [1690],-

Have yours of 8th - is a very hard thing to know just how to advise you, but believe this would be best [1690], would begin to take a body temperature douche with Atomidine in same - the proportion would be a teaspoonful to the quart and half of water - and have water body temperature no warmer no colder and stir the Atomidine in same well and use at once only in a fountain syringe - that will keep down fear of any infection of any kind - don’t think you need fear any malignant trouble of any kind if you take such a precaution - but if the flooding begins again would have the operation by all means. Keep off your feet just as much as possible, the care you take in that direction will determine every thing. Think tho would try that right away.

Have felt for you - know just how lonely it has been for you - know too what it means to you to see your children dissatisfied - yes - what we all need is a little more of the Christ spirit - a little more patience - HE will not allow us to be tempted more than we can bear. [1352] and [1089] are lovely wish I was able to do something for them - and hope can be able to do that some of these days in the not too great a distant future. Take real good care of your self [1690] - try this precautionary measure now and let me know what happens - don’t have douche too hot but above all not cold. But feel sure you will find now this will bring a great help - have been praying mightily for you - believe this is the answer - and hope now you are going to be a whole lot better - love [1089] and [1352]. A word of encouragement will go a long ways to either of them - they will each make you proud of them yet. They have it in them - and will make good, see if they don’t - Hope [M…] is better. Am sure she gets lonely - Let me hear from you and with love to each of you.

R3. 4/23/39 Her son [1089]‘s letter: “Mother seems to be doing pretty good - still has funny or queer sensations. She says that your prayers were what helped her.”

R4. 10/29/39 Letter: “Well, here I am again feeling worse than nothing and at that I should be thankful. I’ve read your letters to [1352] and was so sorry and worried about you and Gertrude not feeling well…

“The last two years have been a strain on me. I’m still going thru the trouble that you gave last reading for, guess it will stop sometime.” [She requested 2036-4.]

R5. 9/10/40 Daughter [1306]‘s letter: ”…Mother is as well as can be expected. You know when she got her last reading it said operation if menstruation didn’t stop - well, it stopped for several months but since has started again. I think that weakens her considerably. I’m wrong - the reading said if flooding didn’t stop. It did stop but she menstruates about every 2 or 3 weeks. She works too much though that’s her main trouble…”

R6. 1/23/41 Daughter [1306]‘s letter to EC: ”…Mother has been feeling pretty bad for about a month now. Menstruating and flooding again. She got a prescription from Dr. Clardy to stop it but it only slowed up for one day. For the last week however, it hasn’t been quite as bad. She’s so tired and weak though from the loss of so much blood.”

R7. 1/27/41 EC’s letter to daughter: ”…Am think she will have to have Dr. Clardy give her a bit of an operation - curettement I believe they call it - if she could do that she possibly would not have much more trouble - if she could stand it.”

R8. 4/20/41 Daughter [1306]‘s letter to EC: ”…For the past three or four weeks mother’s been feeling so badly she hasn’t been able to help me with little [2299] but very little and I’ve kept busy almost all the time…”

R9. 7/20/43 [3909]‘s letter: ”…Through the courtesy of your most loyal cousin, Mrs. [1690], I had the great pleasure of reading this book, There Is A River. To say it was a pleasure and revelation expresses it mildly. I recognized two of the case histories - Miss [852] and Miss [528] - because I knew of their miraculous recoveries…”

R10. 5/23/44 Letter from Mrs. [3774]: “Yes, we were so sorry to hear of little [2999]‘s passing away, and know you did all you could for him and [1306]. So often [1690] speaks of how wonderful you have been to them. She is a fine woman and a wonderful mother…”

B2. 3/8/39 Son [1089]‘s letter: “Mother hasn’t been feeling very well lately. She has been menstruating for an entire month, and too freely. She went to Dr. Clardy this P.M. and he told her to go to bed for a few days. Gave her ‘ergotrate’ (7) tablets. He also took a piece of skin from her womb and is going to send it to Cincinnati to see if there is any chance of cancer. I think not - in fact think it is just probably her last time to be ‘sick’. She just started on her second bottle of Codiron tablets. Have been getting 250 in the bottle, cheaper that way. Her blood pressure was 165. Nothing to be alarmed over. I think worry causes more sickness than anything. The … O.L.C. has a case which is supposed to come up in court the 15th. There is the slightest possibility of it being postponed. The suit is to foreclose mortgage on this home, so we might have to move…

“If Mother doesn’t get better will write you. Really think she does too much hard work.

“Didn’t know until the other day that Dr. Sargent [Andrew Sargent, D.C.?] is kin to you. Dr. Clardy [Son of John D. Clardy?] is too! - so ‘sez he!”

B3. 3/27/39 Son [1089]‘s letter: “Dr. Clardy called the other day said the tissue test showed nothing malignant but that he would advise having the uterus removed to prevent anything worse. She is still menstruating and has since Feb. 5th. He said that finally that would weaken her so that she would just go down. You know how little confidence I have in doctors and yet Mother shouldn’t be ‘sick’ as long as she has. Looks like it won’t stop. Am not asking for a reading but what would you advise?”

B4. 3/30/39 Son [1089]‘s letter: “In the last three days she has been flooding and she is naturally weak… Just as soon as it is convenient for you won’t you give her a reading - it is the last resort and we know you can do something for her. If you can, she is always at home.”

B5. 3/31/39 EC’s letter: “Whether or not your mother could stand such an operation do not know; expect there would have to be considerable thought taken as to her blood count but she may have to have just that. Would advise that she consider having this done for her health’s sake as well as the best for everyone.”
