This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of November, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1709], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., via Mrs. [845].

1. HLC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the present entity; giving the abilities of the entity in the present, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions she submits, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over the years from the present - ” - ‘37 - changes in the attitudes have come about - ‘35 - ‘32 - ‘30 - awakenings - ‘28 - ” etc., on back to birth date. Then, “9’s - 9’s - 9’s!”)

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [1709].

4. In giving the interpretations of the records here, we find there are several outstanding experiences or sojourns that have overshadowed at times, and do overshadow at times the urges that are latent, and yet manifested from some of the other experiences.

5. These at times produce those activities such that others question the entity’s sincerity or purpose, when it is to the entity real.

6. Then, these experiences may be acted upon or chosen to be used as those influences in which the activities may be for greater developments.

7. But all who may be acquainted with the entity will at one time or another be proud of the fact!

8. In choosing from the records here, then, - these are given with the intent and purpose that these may be helpful in the experience of the entity; that there may be the awareness of the purposes for the entering in to the experience of this present sojourn, - as well as making for the fulfilling of the purposes for which each soul enters an experience in materiality.

9. These may be given, then, as emblematical influences:

10. The fleur de lis should be worn by the entity at all times; not as the only influence or force, but as a reminder of the determinations that are oft a part of the entity’s experience, latent and manifested in the present, - and yet are so easily slipped or fallen away from.

11. In that experience of the opposite sex, as will be seen, - while there were hardships, we find that those activities are as forces in the present that may be made most helpful experiences.

12. Then, in giving the urges; as indicated, while there are so many of the material sojourns that make for an EMOTIONAL entity or individual, we find that the long periods of activity of the entity in the astrological sojourns make or produce a deeper, an even more subtle influence.

13. And the entity is deep or subtle, or INNATELY spiritual in its nature.

14. Then, as to the astrological influences, - these we find are expressed as the innate or dream or mental urge; yet the entity, being highly psychic itself, often sees or feels those urges that arise from material sojourns. Hence these at times cause or produce confusions.

15. These that we may analyze are given that the entity may use such as stepping-stones, rather than as stumbling-blocks along the experience in the present.

16. From the astrological aspects, then, we find Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and Mercury all a portion of the experience.

17. We find a combination of influences with Venus and Neptune. Hence the abilities for others to influence the entity by suggestion, kindness, gentleness, patience; and never by command or harsh words, - for these rile the Mars influence that is innately a portion of the entity’s experience.

18. From Venus, then, we find the love of the beautiful; also a part of the psychic influences; as well as the abilities in secretarial activities, as well as conditions, propositions or figures or approaches - which are a part of the experience.

19. In Jupiter we find the broader influence that is a development, and may be made a greater part of the entity’s experience in the present as to influencing or guiding or directing or aiding others. In this connection we will find that there will be periods in the experience when MANY in this sojourn may take orders from the entity, - if the entity so chooses.

20. From the influence in Saturn we find the changes that have been definite in the experience, as well as the very CHANGEABLE conditions, - when there are indecisions in the offing, as it were, for the entity, and where choices may be made.

21. These are then those influences that would be given as the purposes, the reasons or the activities necessary to make the experience a helpful, creative, active force in this sojourn.

22. As we have indicated oft for others, we would again indicate for this entity: Count it rather as an opportunity, a gift of a merciful Father, that there ARE the opportunities in the present for the sojourn in the material influences; that the advantages may be taken of opportunities that come into the experience, even through the hardships and disappointments that have arisen.

23. Also, from the associations in Venus as well as Neptune, count thy friends as the greatest of thy opportunities. No soul may have so many friends that it can afford to lose a single one. Yet there are obligations, there are duties that are combined with such associations. These NEVER neglect in thy thought or thy activities!

24. For He hath not willed that any soul should perish, but has with every temptation prepared a way, a manner of escape. And the more oft it comes through thy friends, thy associates. And as these have been and are oft representative of a savior, a means, a manner, a way, so must ye in thy association and thy activity make of thyself as one that would be a help, a savior, an aid, a HOPE for many.

25. For as ye sow, so must ye reap.

26. As to the appearances or sojourns in the earth, - these, as will be found, are quite varied; and thus, as indicated, there is the overshadowing at times in special influences of the emotional nature, and at others there is the deeper or innate or spiritual urge. Do not confuse these in thy relationships to others, or to conditions, in thy activity in this material plane.

27. Before this we find the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those periods just close to and during the latter portion of that known as the Civil War, - or in those activities roundabout the lands of the present nativity or sojourn.

28. There we find that the entity was disturbed through the activities or conditions, and the hopes that were shattered during those influences. These brought materially the disappointing influences in the experience, yet INNATELY brought a depth of desire, or an innate desire for knowledge, for understanding, for a broader concept of the whole, - and the realization of that greater law which, if there is the full expression or experience of same, may arouse each soul to its greater expression or manifestation, - “The Lord thy God is One!” All force, all power emanates from that which is allowed or directed by or through Him, - according to thy purpose.

29. The name then was Dorothy March. In the experience the entity materially lost, - mentally and spiritually gained; and the lessons to be learned from same in the present, as indicated, are the greater concept - or the expression of the greater concept of the fullness or oneness of purpose in Creative Forces.

30. Before that we find the entity was in the French land, during that period known as the Crusades.

31. There we find the entity was in the opposite sex, as has been indicated; and while there were the intents and the purposes of the entity that were misdirected by the activities of many of those who were in the same position as the entity in its activities towards those influences in the Holy Land, - we find that from the experience through that sojourn the entity in the present is oft overshadowed by the purposes, the desires, the aims, the activities during that sojourn.

32. For the entity was among those who were the leaders in that experience, - in the name then Renee Charleveauxr. In the experience the entity gained throughout. For while there were those influences that made for disturbing activities, owing to the purposes and aims, we find that these arouse in the entity in the present those influences that bring determining factors.

33. Do not allow wrath or petty jealousies, or those activities that would bring such influences in the experience, to be harbored in thy mind. Rather let those promptings of even misdirected activities through that experience be the basis of thy reasoning and thy purposes in the present.

34. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the Promised Land, during those periods when there were the activities following the sojourn of the Prince of Peace.

35. The entity was among those children of that period, and of those who were the close followers and associates of those who were of the household of the Master.

36. For the entity was among the daughters of the sister of Joseph, that was called the companion or husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

37. Hence the entity was acquainted with the hardships, the edicts of the Romans, as well as of the Jewish leader of the experience; knowing of the hardships as brought on by those who were the priests of the experience.

38. And in the present experience of the entity, those who set themselves as being an authority are as dirt to the entity.

39. These the entity disliked.

40. Know rather within self that no entity, no individual is in any place or position, or power, save by the purposes of the Divine.

41. For, thou art in thyself divine! The mere fact or knowledge of thy existence in a material world, prompted by the activities or the movement of the Spirit itself, indicates thy own divinity; but to be attained! And this may never be done by holding grudges or disputations with any.

42. For these only bring hardships, as they did in that experience, to those who (not as He) attempted to take the directing of activities into their own hands.

43. The name then was Puella.

44. Before that we find the entity was again in the position or place, in the material activity, which overshadows the present experience as to influences.

45. For the entity then was a princess in the regime or house of Zend, in the activities in what is now the Gobi land, in the City of Gold.

46. And thus in the present, - any courtesies, any of those activities that show there is a realization or an indication of the entity’s power and influence, become as influences that arouse something within the entity as to the knowledge of the position or place.

47. And there is the longing for, the wanting, as it were, the influence and power that was experienced. For the entity ruled over many.

48. Again, if there are the activities in the present as indicated, there will be many that may take orders from thy understanding, thy interpreting.

49. Measure in this experience that as ye would have measured to thee. Learn the lesson that ye failed to learn in that experience, that ye or she that would be the greatest among thy fellows, thy associates, will serve them all.

50. The name then was Musczeor. In the experience the entity gained, the entity lost. The entity then meets self oft, from the activities in that experience.

51. Before that we find the entity was in the early portion of those activities with Abraham, known as the father of the faithful. And the entity then was acquainted with those activities, being the daughter of Ishmael, - Temah (?) by name.

52. And, being associated and acquainted with those activities and influences, the entity was among those who brought many of the changes in the affairs and activities of the peoples during that experience. The entity held to rather the tenets of Abraham, as well as the knowledge of the activities of Isaac.

53. Hence there will be a greater association in this experience of the entity with those people of that race, known as the Jewish or Hebrew, or those activities or influences that have been brought about as a result of the foundation of same.

54. The entity gained through the experience, for there were those influences that brought about a united effort on the part of those who would keep the law of One.

55. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the Egyptian, during those activities of the rebuilding through the purposes of the Priest, as well as those who went about to restore order out of chaos through the rebellion forces of the Natives and those entering from the Atlantean land.

56. We find the entity was among the daughters of the Priest in that experience, in person, - being born of those peoples that were of the purer race for definite activities during the experience; and thus in the services or activities of the Temple of Sacrifice as well as the Temple Beautiful.

57. The entity acted rather in the capacity of one that would issue the edicts for the moving up, or the placing of individuals in those activities for special services through that experience.

58. The name then was Ar-el-el.

59. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, and that to which it may attain, and how:

60. First, analyze thine own self, and thine own emotions, thine own purposes, thine own desires. Know - as ye analyze such - that these desires, these purposes, must be creative in their nature.

61. This done, - direct thy activities and thy life in bringing these to pass, - WHATEVER may be the disturbances, the disappointments, or the faults even in others. Let them NOT deter thee from thy purpose to be a channel through which blessings and knowledge and understanding may come to others.

62. As ye do this, ye will come into the experience in which material as well as mental and spiritual blessings will be thine own.

63. Ready for questions.

64. (Q) How should I go about furthering my formal education? (A) Study rather the spiritual and mental attributes, - for the study of SELF is the greater lesson to be learned. And this ye carry with thee always!

65. (Q) Should I seek to go to college, and if so, where? (A) NOT necessarily. For what ye have, if it is applied, will far surpass that which ye meet day by day.

66. (Q) Is the work I am now doing the work for which I am best fitted, or should I make a change? (A) As ye apply thyself in thy present environs and thy present associations, and study to use that thou hast, the ways, the means, the openings will come for GREATER activity in thy associations and thy relations.

Keep that thou hast in hand. USE it as a stepping-stone; for the home ye will build.

67. (Q) Would I be a success as a social service worker? (A) If that is that determined from thy self-analysis, VERY well. But as we find, the home building will be the greater success.

68. (Q) How can I be of the most help to my family at this time? (A) In counsel and advice, and in living that SAME advice ye give others!

69. (Q) What would be the most helpful hobby or outside interest for me to begin at this time? (A) Little children!

70. (Q) What is my coat of arms? (A) Fleur de lis!

71. (Q) What are my musical notes? (A) C and G.

72. (Q) To what colors do I best vibrate? (A) Blue and gray.

73. (Q) Is there a karmic reason for my present skin disturbance [acne] of the face? If so, what is it? (A) RATHER is it that of a glandular condition, as combined with a karmic condition from the experiences in the periods of the reconstruction in France. [GD’s note: Was this perhaps another incarnation than the French Crusades one mentioned?]

74. (Q) As Dorothy March in the Civil War period, was I a Confederate or Federal, and may records of this period be found now? (A) Will be found in the Appomattox Courthouse. [See 1709-3, Par. R8.]

R8. 11/27/46 Report from [1709]: “In the summer of 1940, I had the opportunity to visit the Appomattox Courthouse in Appomattox, Virginia, with the view of looking up any records which might be on file on Dorothy March during the War Between the States. I visited the courthouse on a Saturday afternoon when the offices were closed, but learned from a clerk on duty that the old courthouse had burned down during the early part of the 20th century and practically all of the records were destroyed.

“I then visited an old gentleman (97 years of age) who had lived in that section of the country all of his life. He was a Confederate soldier. He said there were quite a few family of Marshes in that section but he couldn’t recall a Dorothy Marsh. I also contacted a Marsh family. They verified the fact that there were quite a few families in that section by the name of Marsh but they couldn’t recall a Dorothy Marsh in their immediate family. They inquired as to whether or not she was married and if so, her name. I was not able to give them this information.”

R9. 1/47 Miss [1709] fell in love with a young Jewish man and no doubt would have married him except for interference from her friend Mrs. [845] and others.

R10. 11/48 She married a Protestant [Mr. [416]‘s youngest brother]. She subsequently had many marital difficulties and her friend Mrs. [845] wished she had not interfered with the previous romance.

R11. 6/15/50 A baby daughter was born.

R12. 9/4/52 This is a report on the Life Reading given on the 11th day of November, 1939, by Edgar Cayce:

Paragraph 18 Concerning my abilities in secretarial activities, as well as conditions, propositions or figures or approaches - I have done secretarial work since 1937 and have been told repeatedly by my associates and employers that I did excellent secretarial work and have never had any difficulty in finding and keeping a job. Have always had a desire to work with propositions and figures, and in High School, was an “A” student in mathematics. From my own personal viewpoint, I would say that this statement made in the reading is quite accurate!

Paragraph 19

As to influencing or guiding or directing or aiding others - I have been in the past and still am asked by friends for my opinion and guidance in their personal problems. Of course, this condition probably exists with the average person so I am at a loss to say whether I am particularly gifted in this respect. I do know I have had my friends tell me that I have much understanding and can give them a clearer insight on their problems and have helped them face some phases of their life with a different and more understanding outlook.

Paragraph 20

In regard to the CHANGEABLE conditions and many indecisions in the offing - This is quite true, especially since my marriage on Nov. 4th 1948. Since my marriage, I have moved four or five times and have been faced with the decision of where to go and why. Conditions affecting my personal life have constantly changed since about my 25th birthday and I would say that I have not lived a humdrum life since that time.

Paragraph 27

This paragraph has meant much to me, for since obtaining my reading, I have tried to have the attitude that apparent hardships or misfortunes are opportunities, and should be treated as such, rather than be bemoaned. Now I feel that a hardship is a challenge and there is something to be learned by me by its occurrence. It is amazing when you assume this attitude how much easier you can face problems.

As for the first incarnation listed (during Civil War), see report given previously which is in file.

As for the incarnation as a man (Crusades, French), it is my personal opinion that this incarnation affects me as much as any during this life. I have always felt that I would rather have been a man for I have always wanted to be able to lead the type of life that men lead - that is, follow a profession, study engineering and take an active part in construction and building. I, too, feel that I have a man’s attitude toward situations and this fact has been confirmed by some who know me.

The 3rd incarnation listed, during the Promised Land period, the statement made concerning my feeling toward those in authority. This statement hit the nail on the head, for at the time the reading was given, I did have that attitude. I have since tried to change my attitude toward such people. I still cannot bring myself to respect and admire a person just because they hold a prominent position.

Next incarnation - What is said “rings a bell” but I can’t think of anything I might add.

Next incarnation - The statement as to my greater association with people of the Jewish or Hebrew faith is quite true. I was employed by a firm operated by two Jewish brothers for a period of over 7 years. I was seriously considering marrying a Jewish boy when I was around 35 and I have several very good friends of the Jewish faith. I have a great admiration for some Jewish people. In Washington, one of the men I worked under was a Jew. It seems as if everywhere I turn, I am placed in a position of close association with some Jewish person and I find it to my liking.

Last incarnation given - No comment.

General Comments.

Q-4 [Par. 67-Q] was not phrased or voiced from my own idea. Note the answer.

In considering my life reading as a whole, I would say that it is very accurate. It has certainly helped me to have an optimistic outlook on life and accept conditions in my stride. I feel that my life reading is responsible for shaping my life and making me a bigger and better person. It has been a constant source of consolation and each time I read it over, I find something in it that I hadn’t noticed before.

R13. 2/23/56 She and her husband had a baby son born to them. She had previously, about a year ago, returned to her old job with the two Jewish brothers.

Q. Have you ever spoken with Edgar Cayce? If so, how well did you know him?

2. Yes. I attended his Bible classes, which were held once a week for a number of years, I also visited in his home and attended various functions at the ARE while Mr. Edgar Cayce was still living. I found him to be a warm, humble and sincere man who was very interesting and fascinating.

Q. Do you feel that Edgar Cayce’s source of information depicted you accurately?

3. Yes. My several readings (life and physical) helped me to understand my urges and try to cope with them.

Q. At time of the rdg., did you have confidence in his counseling?

4. When I got my first physical reading (which was the first of the readings I had) I was skeptical. However, since he described my condition so accurately and mentioned some conditions which no one but myself would know about, my skepticism vanished.

Q. Do you feel that the reading helped you? How?

5. Yes, in many ways. The physical readings were very, very helpful, and I still follow their suggestions, as well as suggestions given in readings for others. My life readings helped me to understand myself as well as the events of my life better and to assume a constructive attitude. They have strengthened my faith in God and in prayer, and over the years, have made me realize that many things which happen to an individual may seem a tragedy at the time, but in the long run, prove to be a blessing.

Q. As you look back, do you see patterns that were shown in the rdgs that you didn’t see before? Please explain.

6. Yes. I have found that each time I re-read my readings, I see something in them that I didn’t see before. In other words, my interpretation and understanding of the meaning is different.

Q. Do you think your life could have been made better by following the advice more closely?

7. Yes. Since I was quite young when my life readings were given, I didn’t stop to analyze their meaning too deeply. As I have grown older and faced the problems of life, I realize that his advice was most accurate and I should have paid more heed to his suggestions.

Q. If EC were alive would you refer people to him for help?

8. Yes. Definitely.

Q. Did any of his predictions manifest themselves?

9. Yes. I was told that I would have close association with Jewish people, which has proven to be quite, quite true. I not only worked for a Jewish firm for 23 years, but at the present time, my immediate boss is Jewish. I also seriously considered marrying a Jewish boy at one time.

The conditions of my life have been very changeable as I was told they would be and I have been successful and enjoyed my work as a secretary.

Note: I do hope this will prove of some value to you. Since I did not receive this request until yesterday, the 26th of January, I had very little time to prepare my answers since your deadline is January 28th. I do feel that more time should be given for such thought provoking questions. Good luck!
