This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 18th day of January, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1749], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) Is Dr. Miller giving me the treatments as they have been prescribed? (A) In a general manner, yes.

As there is realized in the application of the suggestions given that there are other forces, these at times make for somewhat conflicting influences.

As we find, we would select either the one or the other mode of treatments. If on the part of self there is the desire to use the homeopathic applications, which are to deal more with the conditions which exist relative to the congested forces in the body, then we would not apply so much or ANY of those as applied by Dr. Miller.

But if there is the choice that ALL of these conditions are to be attended to, through the application of the Miller treatments and suggestions indicated, then we would wholly give the opportunity to those applications as may be suggested through this channel; and use especially the vibratory forces and the activities as may be suggested and as we have indicated that may be given by Dr. Miller for ALL of the conditions.

For as we find, while there have been some improvements in some directions, recently there have been the greater upsets in the abilities for the activities of the body, - and the nervous tensions which have arisen.

And if there will be followed consistently the suggestions that have been made, and may be made through the Miller treatments, better results may be obtained.

5. (Q) Are my reactions to the treatments normal and on the progressive side? (A) As indicated, these must all be taken into consideration.

They are not normal, for we have some conflicting.

6. (Q) Will the treatments with Dr. Miller be needed for such a length of time that I will need to purchase a machine? (A) This may depend entirely upon whether this method of treatment is to be chosen altogether, or whether there is to be the continued combination, or ONLY the suggested treatments as outlined here.

7. (Q) Should I take colonic irrigations? (A) This as we find would be well for the body.

8. (Q) Is my nervous system stronger? (A) Some stronger, though there have been some upsets through the conflicting forces and influences with the conditions of the body.

9. (Q) Is there anything specific I should or should not take in my diet? (A) None of those that carry any form, now, of alcoholic content; nor too great a quantity of starches, but there are to be some starches for the system.

10. (Q) Does the menopause enter into and effect my present condition? (A) It affects and is a part, of course, both of the condition in the pelvis and the breast.

11. (Q) Will Dr. Miller’s treatment correct the growths in the breast and uterus? (A) As we find, these are as just indicated. If these are adhered to consistently, we should find a great deal better condition.

12. (Q) Would you suggest Dr. Van Rumpt for corrective treatment? (A) If this is the choice of the body, then do that. But these must be the choices of the body. Know this: There must be that confidence, that comes to almost faith in self, as to choices, as to whether applications being made respond or answer to that within self, see? This is a natural law. And unless there is faith or confidence wholly in that being applied, mighty little good or help may be obtained!

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Thank you for your note which just came.

Mrs. [1602] has been very helpful. She helped me to formulate the questions which I sent you for the last reading

• and she is also talking things over with your son Hugh Lynn Cayce, who is going to see Dr. Miller.

I have had such unfavorable results with Dr. Miller and a lot of expense which I cannot afford - that I am discontinuing until the matter can get itself straightened out. It seems that Dr. Miller HAS NOT BEEN GIVING THE TREATMENTS ACCORDING TO YOUR DIRECTIONS and I got too much power and it was not good.

I fully intend to continue with light treatment someway somehow but the whole thing has been so upsetting that I am dropping it temporarily.

Mrs. [1602] is going to let me know about it and I shall have a talk with her again soon.

I am going back to work again next week. Hope you are feeling better.

My friend Mrs. […] is following your directions and getting good results with her little boy [1785].

R4. 6/25/39 [1749]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

It was good of you to write me again and I appreciate your thought and kindness. Indeed I was much impressed with your sincerity and desire to help when I met you, and the thought of it has remained with me. One does not often meet such true kindness and good will and fellowship in this busy world of ours and it “warms the heart”.

I am keeping on with the meditation thoughts which you gave me. It is very helpful. Do you know a little book called “The Life and Teachings of Jacob Beilhart”? It is so simply told: - his experiences, and how he learned to live the Christ life. If you ever run across it I know you will enjoy it, as you have the same spirit within you.

As to Dr. Mary Miller and the light treatments, there are no new developments. On the first visit to her, I gave her your sheet of typewritten directions which she kept and was to follow. She also read over the rest of the reading and later on I sent her a why of that also. We discussed my homeopathic treatments and she said that she throughly approved of them and ADVISED ME TO CONTINUE THEM.

I mentioned this last matter because in the second reading I am told to continue either with one or the other but not both!

While it is probable, as you say, is the two treatments did create a conflict - and I should not have done it. I DEFINITELY FEEL ALSO that Dr. Miller gave me too many treatments too close together. At first I had three a day, and later two a day. She followed the machine which she has for the rate of vibrations at which to set the little light instrument.

As the matter stands, I am hoping that someone else will be found who can give the light treaments and am waiting to hear from Mrs. [1602].

I went through quite a siege with it all and the whole thing was so nervously upsetting that for the time being I am dropping it all but hope to take it up again later.

I appreciate the help of your son in this matter, as well as yours, and know that it will all work itself out.

Dear Miss [1749]:

Thank you for yours of the 25th - I certainly never wish to be any thing but a helpful influence in every way to all I may meet or try to serve - realize my speech and life must be consistent, and hope to make it so.

Do not know the book you speak of - should you run across a copy please let me know would like to have same and will be glad to send you the price and have you send it to me if you will let me know same.

Would keep pretty close to advice and council of Mrs. [1602]

• am sure she is pretty solid in her decisions.

Am sure you will choose the right course to pursue - especially do you keep up the meditations, asking for guidance each time. His directions will not be wrong.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

The little book is called “My Life and Teachings” by Jacob Beilhart. I think the price is $2.00 and you can secure it from The Sun Pub. Co., Akron, Ohio.

I have not heard anything further. Mrs. [1602] is waiting to see your son Hugh Lynn - and I am HOPING that some other doctor or person may be found who can give the light treatments.

R7. 2/2/39 EC’s letter to Miss [1749]:

Thanks Miss [1749] for yours of the 1st - and for the name and address of where the book may be obtained, will try and get a copy.

Possibly why Mrs. [1602] has not heard from Hugh Lynn is that he was here last week and sick most of the time he was here, returned to N.Y. Sunday but just heard from him and he has been kept close by the weather and the way he was feeling. Hope you will get all straightened out soon and get to feeling in fine shape.

R8. 4/1/39 Miss [1749]‘s letter to HLC:

New York City

Dear Mr. Cayce [HLC]:

I have been spending a short vacation in …, New Jersey in my mother’s home and this afternoon called Dr. W. D. Taylor [Wm. D. Taylor, N.D.] of 25 N. Harrison St. East Orange on the phone. After explaining my introduction through your father’s reading I talked to him about beginning some treatments with him as soon as I get out here for the summer.

Among other things he said that he was interested in doing EXACTLY WHAT THE READING DIRECTED, which I liked very much. After telling him that I was to get the “white light” treatment he immediately said that I would have to come in about once a week to get a check up as to the radionic rate on the machine. Now, this is just what Dr. Miller did, and as I understand it that is NOT according to the directions in the reading. (So I understood after talking with Mrs. [1602].)

I am wondering if you would be willing to write to Dr. Taylor and explain the case for me? I am so anxious to start off right this time, and indeed would not care to take any chances on doing otherwise as the other experience made me so ill, and I have not really recovered from it yet.

I mentioned to Dr. Taylor that you might write to him and he said that he would like very much to hear from you. I liked his personality so much. He even suggested that he might be able to drop in on me at my New York address and talk the matter over.

If you are in N.Y. at any time would you call me up about this (Algonquin … - evening a good time)? - or if you are in Va. Beach could you drop me a line? I appreciate your kindness in talking with Dr. Miller - and through your intervention feel sure that my last bill from her was considerably curtailed which was a great load off my mind, you can believe.

Dear Mr. Cayce [HLC]:

At Mrs. [1602]‘s suggestion I am writing you again regarding Dr. Taylor of East Orange and my reading.

It is possible that my last two letters have gone astray as I have not heard from you in answer to either one.

I am most anxious to begin my treatments right away but cannot do so until you have explained rather fully to Dr. Taylor the history of the case and JUST HOW THE LIGHT TREATMENTS ARE TO BE GIVEN.

If you would possibly write to Dr. Taylor at once about this matter I would deeply appreciate it as I CANNOT GO AHEAD UNTIL YOU DO.

Dr. Taylor told me that he had had a few words with you the night of the meeting at the McAlpine.

When you do get in touch with him will you please also mention PRICES to him as I shall undoubtedly have to continue the treatments over a long period of time and will not be able to afford high rates?

It occurred to me that possibly Hugh Lynn might be away or that my letters to him have gone astray. I was talking with Mrs. [1602] today and she said that she had not seen him recently.

I am anxious to begin my treatments with Dr. Taylor in East Orange but do not dare begin them until he has been given an explanation of just how to give the treatments.

So thought I would drop you a line to ask you to please forward my last letter to him (Hugh Lynn Cayce), sent to-day.

R11. 5/11/39 HLC’s letter to Dr. Taylor:

Dr. Wm. D. Taylor 25 North Harrison St., East Orange, N.J.

Dear Dr. Taylor:

Miss [1749] is coming to you for treatments. We are very much interested in her case and I imagine that you have found her readings most interesting. I have just finished reading them again and feel that it might be well to take up a few points with you.

First we would appreciate it very much if you will secure for us a complete history of this case and check it against the information given in the first reading. There are a great number of very definite points mentioned that would furnish interesting checking evidence. I refer to such statements as contained in the first reading as: “prolapsus or dropping …catarrhal condition of eustachian tube…” the upset digestive system producing nervousness, gas and pressure… headaches, condition of kidneys, etc. Check each point with her and your own examination and let us have the report. This would naturally involve not only present condition which has changed somewhat, but the history of the case. This will be very valuable for our files and Miss [1749] will be glad to cooperate I am sure.

Now regarding the treatments. Evidently from the first reading there needs be given gentle massage and corrections beginning in the lumbar region and gradually working up along the spine, coordinating the various centers. This will evidently take a number of treatments and should be accompanied by the use of a static machine that will simply heat the body. This should not be very strong.

As you will observe from Miss [1749]‘s readings psychic centers in the body have been opened through meditation and proper coordination has not resulted in the physical and mental bodies. The importance of her mental attitude should be stressed. It is naturally difficult for her to keep the right sort of attitude with her body in its present physical condition and so all the help you can give her will be most appreciated I am sure.

You will remember that I told you that Dr. Miller had treated Miss [1749] for some time. She used other electrical treatments on her than those suggested in the reading evidently. I hope you will find it possible to follow the reading suggestions exactly as given, as this will be a most interesting case.

Miss [1749] will probably have to have a long series of treatments. I hope you will make her as reasonable as rate as possible.

Knowing your interest in these subjects and your willingness to cooperate I am confident that you will get some fine results here. We will appreciate your cooperation.

Will it be possible for you to attend the Congress? We are having a special night for reports on physical readings and I am sure you would find many of the other meetings of interest.

I am sorry that we had so little time to talk while in New York. I would like for you to have time to go over some of our records and also talk at length with my father.

Dear Miss [1749]

Yours of the 10th to hand - was only yesterday or today was talking with Hugh Lynn about your going to Dr. Taylor, so think you must by now have a letter from him with suggestions. And should you go see Dr. Taylor, have him (Taylor) write me before he begins any treatment - unless he fully understands the suggestions.

R13. 5/15/39 Dr. Taylor’s letter to HLC:

Hugh Lynn Cayce Asso. for Research & Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Va.

Dear Hugh,

This morning I received a letter from [1749] who told me to expect one from you, and sure enough, it came on the following mail. She enclosed her readings to me, and I find it extremely interesting from the standpoint of being an unusual case that will take a great deal of understanding. You can count on me to get a complete case history, because I feel that in a case like this it would be valuable from a research standpoint and from a diagnostic standpoint as well.

I have asked Miss [1749] if it is convenient for her to do so, to accompany our party to Virginia Beach for the conference, and at that time it may be possible to get a few words in on her case as we expect to arrive in Va. Beach a day early.

I notice from the reading that it speaks of the lumbar massage and the coordinating of the various centers. I presume this should be done Neuropathically with Nerve Tracing from the source in the spine, out. I have several mediums of applying static electricity or mild heat, however, I have a machine available in my office being uni-polar, which transmits a very mild vibration of heat into the body through the medium of a high frequency at low amperage. This may be the machine to use, however, I will talk it over with either you or your father before we begin treatments.

It looks very much as if positive suggestions must be given in this case along with treatment, and I noticed when I met her in New York that her posture was poor. This too may be corrected by the treatment suggested in the reading.

Apparently Dr. Miller used another medium for treatment of this case which had detrimental effect as Miss [1749]

mentioned that the doctor who had been giving her White Light treatments had not been completely successful and that was her reason for discontinuing the treatments.

I can assure you that I will make the rate for her treatments fit her means, as you and I well know the most important thing in healing is to cure the patient if possible regardless of the fee.

I am looking forward to seeing both you and your father the week of June 12th at Virginia Beach, and if there is anything that you have to suggest further, I will appreciate hearing from you.

R14. 5/16/39 [Sent 5/18/39] Miss [1749]‘s letter to EC:

N.Y. City

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Thank you for writing. Have also received a copy of Mr. Hugh Lynn’s letter to Dr. Taylor.

I think Dr. Taylor is a fine person and am sure his treatments will be successful. He does not have a copy, nor have I, of the INSTRUCTION SHEET ACCOMPANYING MY FIRST READING for the doctor. I gave my copy to Dr. Miller. Would you mind sending a copy of this to Dr. Taylor as soon as you can get around to it? I am sorry to have to ask you to bother with this but do not like to ask Dr. Miller for it. My Reading was 1749-1 Nov. 16, 1938.

He is anxious to follow your directions thoroughly and tells me he is going to write you.

I know you must be busier than usual now with the Congress just ahead. Wish I might get down to it.

R15. 5/17/39 HLC’s letter to Dr. Taylor:

Dear Dr. Taylor:

Thank you very much for your cooperation on the [1749] case. I was sure that we could count on you.

I am glad to note that you plan to attend the Congress and that there will be several friends with you.

If I can be of assistance in making reservations for you I will be glad to take care of them. As you will note from previous announcements we are holding the Congress at the Warner Hotel (folder enclosed). They have made us a special rate of five per day per person with two in a room, bath and three meals. As quite a number of those attending the Congress will stay there and as both afternoon, evening and the dinner meeting will be held there it will be convenient. It is one of the best hotels at the Beach. The people owning it have had readings and are interested in the work.

In the event that some of your party may desire more moderate accommodations I am enclosing a cottage rate list. If you will advise me of the amount they desire to pay I will make a selection of reservations and secure the best accommodations at that figure.

Dad is counting on the fishing trip. He enjoys it very much.

R16. 6/22/39 Dr. Taylor’s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce,

It was with many regrets that I left Virginia Beach. We had a very profitable and enjoyable time at the Convention, and I will remember your hospitality for many a day.

One of my patients [[1951]?] wishes to have a reading, and I would appreciate it very much if you would send me an application so that we might go ahead with this.

The case of Miss [1749] is a very interesting one, and at my earliest possible convenience I will send you a complete case history, beginning with a near nervous breakdown in 1916, and running on through, checking in a very interesting manner the opening up of the centers indicated in the reading she obtained from you.

I believe she needs special attention and it might be well for her to have a check reading. At the moment, however, she doesn’t seem to feel she can afford to do this, but will have it as soon as she is able.

There is a history of physical and spiritual incoordination which has ended in some definite upsets which apparently could not be avoided.

I am hoping for the best and will await any advice that you may be able to give before starting treatment in this case.

Thanks for yours of the 22nd - am happy to know you feel the meeting was worthwhile - certainly wish you might have heard O’Neil John J. O’Neill] Sat. night, would love to have had your reaction to him. Was a real pleasure Dr. to know you here in this material world we get closer together when we have the personal acquaintance and it was a real pleasure to be with you - and Gosh don’t I wish I could be where you could give me a going over once and while, think would have job for you every day. May God Bless you and keep you and may you do a great work for Others.

Thanks for the suggestion - am enclosing the blank - hope we can help. Now about Miss [1749], will appreciate the report, am very anxious to try and help, and if you feel that a check reading would be of help we will arrange for it, whether she is able to pay or not, for it is to get the help we wish to lend ourselves to. Of course we are much in the same position as yourself, there are many that we must help irrespective of pay - and of course it isn’t just for pay ever.

Thanking you and asking to be remembered to all that were here certainly enjoyed every one of them.

In the messages on Sunday afternoon very few of those that were away got any thing the reading [262-121] was too long guess - any way understand it stopped before it got yours. Sorry but is something can’t help.

R18. 6/26/39 [1749]‘s letter to EC:

N.J.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

At last I have reached New Jersey for the summer vacation period and began last week my first of a series of treatments with Dr. W. D. Taylor of East Orange.

I like him so much in every way and feel that this time the treatment is going along satisfactorily in everyway.

He tells me that he went fishing with you while at the Conference. I am eager to hear news of the Conference, and hope that next year I can get down there.

There is one question I would like to ask you. Do you mean for me to take the “White Light” treatment? When I saw Dr. Taylor last week he thought from certain indications that I was to have the simple low static electric treatment. Then when I told him of the time when I met you in the McAlpine and of your remark to me - “I want you to have the White Light” - why, he thought differently. He wants to follow your directions in the reading exactly and he has a copy of the directions.

The machine which Dr. Miller used was, I believe, the “White Light”.

Will you mind dropping me a line about this as soon as you can conveniently do so?

You see the reading does not state what type of machine is to be used.

Last week Dr. Taylor used simply an electric vibrator of some sort.

I hope you are well and not too tired from the Conference activities.

My best wishes to you and my regards to Hugh Lynn Cayce and gratitude to him for his interest and help in writing to Dr. Taylor for me.

Dear Miss [1749]:

Thank you for yours of the 26th - am glad you are where you can have the advantage of Dr. Taylor treatments, while I had every confidence in Dr. Taylor - until recently it was just a feel - just an assurance from contact - and reports from others but as you possibly know he was here for our meeting

• and had the privilege of being with him a bit and of having personally several of his treatments, so now feel that I know personally, and I am of the opinion he is just what you need at this time. Now Miss [1749] wrather than answering some of your questions here - just from the way I feel, will suggest that we have a reading and you put in your questions and let the Dr. put in his. Now this is on me, just because I wish to see you have the advantage now of the very best possible - for feel it is the time - while we are busy - am putting this in the first opportunity - and will ask that you send your questions - and have the Dr. to do so also that we may have them before the time - and be sure and give me the address you will be for the hour set please.

The Time is Thursday afternoon the 6th - 3.30 to 4.30 E.S.T. Now will you do this for me.

Had a line from Miss [283], guess you two will get together as she I believe is to be in that part of the country - Upper Montclair believe it is.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Thank you for your very lovely letter and for the kind offer you made concerning a check reading for Miss [1749]. I believe a check reading would be very helpful in her case, and if you can arrange for it, Miss [1749] and I will very much appreciate it. If you do not have Miss [1749]‘s address at … you can let me know when the reading will take place and I in turn can speak to her.

The application blank which you meant to enclose in your letter to me was among the missing. I guess when you sealed the letter you just forgot to put it in as I do in my letters so many times. May I use the application blank which is on the back of the Associations brochure concerning your work? If this will be satisfactory I will send it in as soon as I hear from you.

We are making plans for a real bang-up fishing trip here for you when the fish really begin to run. I inquired yesterday in Manasquan which in a shore resort in New Jersey about a good boat to trowl from. There are several and we can have our pick. I certainly am looking forward to it, and I hope nothing happens to interfere in our having a most pleasant time together.

Dear Dr. Taylor;

Thank you for yours of the 29th - sorry that I failed to enclose the blank - will try and do so in this, also give you a period for the reading. Saturday afternoon the 8th - 3.30 to 4.30 E.S.T. so when have your letter the time will be set also - and wrote Miss [1749] to give her address - her questions also to have questions from you - the time is the afternoon of the 6th 3.30 to 4.30 E.S.T.

Sure any time you wish to use a blank from one of the Assn. Booklets do so - that is what they are for.

Do hope can make that fishing trip - quite a number are making appointments for the middle of July - these two especially can’t afford to miss - as they are coming quite some distance to see me, but hope it will not interfere.

Dear Mr. Cayce:
