This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 10th day of December, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1757], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., via wife, Mrs. [1697], and friend, Mr. [556].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. [1757] and Mrs. [1697].]
Time of Reading 4:10 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Va.

GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions he submits, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1757].
-
Now as we find, there are many disturbing factors as prevent the better or best normal physical reaction. These, however, we find arise from rather a specific disturbance that in its reaction through the system produces rather the complication; or a condition where at varied times the effect is to be seen specifically in many different functionings of the system.
-
These then are the conditions as we find them with this body, [1757] we are speaking of, present in this room:
-
The blood supply indicates the deficiency in manners of its reaction, and this in the present disturbance or present state indicates the toxic forces arise as much or more from the condition through the colon, - as combined with a disturbance in the liver itself.
-
These, then, are the SOURCES of the disturbance; as through the blood stream we find at times the showing of an impoverishment, and the lack of the vital forces for the resuscitations.
-
Thus we have periods when the body feels slow or sluggish, and the reactions to the extremities or the locomotories, - the feeling as of it being impossible to go forward or on. At other periods we find the sluggishness of the circulatory forces even makes for a hard activity with the heart, and this makes for a feeling as through the chest, and even through the heart area; as a shortness of breath or the lack of the ability to breathe entirely deep into the lungs. At other periods we find that lack of the eliminations through the activities of the organs of elimination, and a form of constipation that makes for the accumulation of poisons through the system.
-
This creates as we find, as indicated in the present, another form of disturbance through the blood supply.
-
In its combination this makes for periods when the incoordination, or the lack of COOPERATIVE forces between the cerebrospinal and the nervous system, produces conditions when the effect to the whole of the general system is for the body to become morose, or to see the dark side, or to begin to worry and feel depressed.
-
Yet at other periods a mental stimuli for an appreciation of the better things makes for a stimulation to the whole system to carry on for the greater activities in the mental and spiritual lines, - even when the BODY under such elations may oft feel very much depressed.
-
This of course produces then disturbance in the organs as in relation to the upper and the lower hepatic circulation, - that causes an over or underactivity with the kidneys, - as at times with some disturbance through the glandular forces in same; and the whole of the system suffers in this way and manner; as in the headaches, as in congestions in portions of the face, the throat, and the inclination for clearing the throat and the like.
-
All of these become a part of the conditions.
-
As we find, in adding to that as may be the most helpful, - and as just indicated may stimulate an activity that may bring to the system a change ENTIRELY for the physical forces:
-
First, we would have the high colonic irrigations. The first two should be given by one well versed in same, or well prepared for giving such; as it would not be best to remove the WHOLE of the disturbance through the first application; using in the last waters an antiseptic AND making for the full cleansing of the colon. The first two, given by a trained operator, would be given as close as one each week.
-
Afterwards, about every two weeks, the body may take the colonic irrigation HIMSELF; by using the colon tube with a Fountain Syringe. These are MOST necessary. When this is done by self, use the soda and salt solution in the first water; the proportion being a heaping teaspoonful of salt and a level teaspoonful of soda to each quart of water, - and using, of course, about a quart and a half or a GALLON if necessary to remove the poisons and the accumulation of toxic forces that are a part of the cause of the disturbance through the colon area. Have the water body-temperature; not above or below same.
-
The first two should be given by a trained operator, for there is sufficient of the phlegm and congestion and mucous that necessarily must be CAREFULLY taken from the body.
-
We would also begin taking a tonic internally for the body, as may be found in Codiron; two tablets each day, taken with the heavier meals taken - or morning and evening meal. These would be taken AS the meal is taken; two tablets at each period they are taken. Keep these up for at least a two-week period, leave off a week and then take again; and do this THROUGHOUT the period of cold or inclement weather. And we will find this will keep off cold and congestion, and the inclination for sluggishness.
-
It would be well for the body also to take, every other day, the vibrations from the violet ray; preferably not the bulb applicator but the rod which the body either holds in the hand or sets the foot on it, with the rod lying upon glass, see? If it is taken in this way, alternate; using once in the right hand, once in the left; once with the right foot, once with the left. Do this for a minute and a half. There is no great feeling with this, if it is turned on AFTER the body has grasped the applicator for the applying of same.
-
Occasionally we would have a GENERAL osteopathic adjustment to alleviate the inclinations for closeness of the segments along the cerebrospinal system, especially in those areas where there is the close association of the sympathetic and the cerebrospinal connections, - the 4th lumbar, 9th dorsal, 3rd and 4th dorsal and throughout the cervical areas. This not necessarily more than once a week, and then only about four or five; and then left off for a month, and then another four or five taken.
-
But the irrigations and the Codiron and the electrical forces we would take regularly in the manner indicated.
-
In the matter of the diet, - here, too, we will find this must coordinate with the applications being given. Not too great a quantity ever of white bread or white potatoes, or spaghetti with cheese or the like. These may be taken in moderation at times, but plenty of whole wheat cereals or Maltex or the like of mornings; also orange juice or citrus fruit juices if they agree with the body (but not on the same mornings that the cereals are taken). As to meats, never any fried, - but rather broiled, boiled or the like. Fish, fowl and lamb especially should be the meats. Vegetables, - some green vegetables, or a combination of same, with some meal each day; such as celery, lettuce, radish, spinach, - but this raw, not cooked. Spinach cooked is not so well for this particular body.
-
Such activities as these will bring a change that will be most desirable.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What should be done for hemorrhoids? (A) This is another reason why precaution should be taken with the first of the colonic applications, see? But when there has been a cleansing, we will find a great IMPROVEMENT in this condition.
With the hemorrhoid, where and when it causes disturbance, use the ointment known as Tim, - with the applicator where it may be injected. When this is applied, lie down, - putting the feet much higher than the head for a few minutes. The third or fourth application should reduce these to almost nil.
- (Q) Is there any cancerous condition? (A) Not as we find, of that of true cancerous nature.
Do these things as we have indicated; and as we find we will make for much better condition.
- We are through for the present.
Copy to Self ” ” Ass’n file
(See separate sheet [which was enclosed] of directions for Osteopath.
I am having the Health Home Remedies Corp. send you a tube of Tim, with injector. GD.)

Reports & Follow-up
R1. Remarks after Reading: Most wonderful description of way he feels, - so GLAD he came for the Reading. Felt so terrible that he went to see Dr. Hudgins. Dr. H. referred him to Dr. Bright, who has colonic machine. Has taken three colonics and they have relieved him considerably. Is so glad of the detailed instructions he can follow at home. Mrs. [1697] looks and feels like different person since following her Rdg. She said Mr. [1757]‘s hemorrhoids were so bad that they couldn’t even operate; but she - having been a trained nurse
- would put on rubber gloves, using Vaseline, and put the folds back each time they’d drop down, - sometimes as big as two fists.
R2. 8/24/35 Mr. [1757] had obtained a Physical Reading for his sister-in-law, Mrs. [977].
R3. 1/10/39 [1757]‘s letter to EC:

R6. 2/19/41 Peggy Poss’ letter to EC:
Mrs. Louis Poss 212 Woodland Terrace Jefferson Park Alexandria, Virginia
…, Virginia
Dear Edgar;
Received your letter and we were indeed glad to hear from you. So glad Gertrude is getting better and hope she is feeling much, much better by now. This “flu” surely was a determined old bug this year and it sure takes an awfully long time to recover from it. I’m feeling better than when I wrote you last but have to be so awfully careful and seem to spend most of my time in bed. I’m doing all the things you ordered for me after the last “flu” attack I had so if I continue to feel downtrodden after another few weeks, I’ll have the “human X-ray machine” work on me to see what can be done for better conditions for this body!! Dora, the girl that works in the office with me, was off with the “flu” the same time I was and she and I are feeling just about the same, so I feel that perhaps all the “flu” victims are having the same difficulty.
So delighted to hear that you are feeling so well - It is most important for you to stay well so do take Xtra good care of yourself. I know that is rather difficult to do when you have as many “patients” as you, and “patience” too!
Received the last two Bible lessons and they were so wonderful. I certainly enjoy the lessons immensely and am also reading the New Testament.
By the way, I have been intending to ask you this - It seems to me I got a letter when I was in the hospital indicating that the plans for the Association hadn’t developed as you hoped, etc. Did you mean the plans for the new part of your home for the records? If you did, Louis and I have had a brain storm and wonder what the members of the Association might think about it. How many active members are there in the Association? Well, I don’t have any idea, but if each member would pledge to send say $1.00 a month until the major part at least was paid, or for a period of say 6 months, it seems to us that that wouldn’t be a particular hardship on any, and with so many members it would amount to quite a bit a month. I expect you have had quite a few suggestions that would be much better than this, but if you haven’t, what do you think of it? I would be most willing to do it and I’m sure there are a lot of others if it were suggested who would be delighted. Why don’t you get one of your real interesting talkers, like Mr. Kahn, bring it up at the Congress? I would never be able to put it over myself but would be glad to second the motion and third it too.
Well, right now I better get to work - My desk has been piled high since being off and I’m gradually getting it down to working order. Did want to get this letter off to you today, however.
Remember us to all and do hope all there are well.
Love from us both [signed] Peggy and Louis
Dues enclosed
[Handwritten:] Tell Gladys to change my address on her records. MT. WASHINGTON is my sister’s address!! I was probably drunk when I wrote that.
R7. 2/21/41 EC’s letter:
Dear Peggy and Louis;-
Thanks for yours of the 19th - glad you are on the improve and hope you are feeling your normal good self again. Yes, think Gertrude is still on the improve, with a few more treatments think she will be ready to go to the specialist to see if something can’t be done for the eye - but she has to go to Ky for that, and will be a bit of hardship on all of us here, but will make out if it can be of help to her.
Think am feeling most too good, or as the old lady said - “I gets skered when feel so good - kause know am going to feel bad.” Only think am not going to be like that - feel that possibly have too much to do for that - too many do ask for help, and am sure many get it else they wouldn’t write like they do. As one lady wrote recently - “Mr. Cayce you are wonderful - your treatment is perfect. I did what you told me and low and behold don’t ever sneeze any more.” As you can imagine she had what was called rose fever or hay-fever.
Glad you like the Bible lessons - have had some very favorable comments lately from those to whom we send them, so our local as well as others are growing in number.
Thanks for your suggestion - Yes, would half those on the list agree to do that, say for two or three months, would clear the whole thing up.
Have written so much about money always feel loath to go begging again. Could we get the members to do this would be fine - How about you and Louis writing a letter to that effect. Send it here, we will mimeograph it; send it to you to sign and mail - We will address envelopes and stamp them but mailed from you there would be much better than from here. A bit of trouble to you but would help us out of the hole a lot. Yes, there is enough needed to move the garage and put the fence on top of the rooms and finish bath.
Think it over - Thanks and love to each of you Edgar Cayce
R8. 3/5/41 Peggy Poss’ letter to EC:
Dear Edgar:
Well at last we have finally decided upon a letter, a ROUGH DRAFT of which is enclosed. If Tommie Thomas Sugrue] doesn’t mind, wish he would read it and dress it up a bit. It needs quite a bit of improvement and Tommie could give it that certain something that it needs. We know how we feel about you and the work but when we start putting it in words, we just can’t express it. Sooooooo, perhaps Tommie can tell from the letter what we mean and put it in better wording and phraseology!! We put Washington, D.C., as the address thinking it might make more of an impression, but if you rather it be Alexandria, Virginia, just insert that instead of Washington. We will mail them at whichever place you decide on. Hope we can put this through soon so everyone will get the letter in time to send his first dollar on April 1st. How many active members are there? I think it would be well to only send it to the ACTIVE members because if the others aren’t interested enough to keep up their dues, the chances are that they wouldn’t pay any attention to a letter of this type. Anyway, whatever you decide about the letter, will be perfectly alright with us.
How is Gertrude getting along? Has she recovered from the “flu” yet? Last week I was miserable every day and couldn’t sleep nights and Saturday had definitely made up my mind to write you for a reading, but we were so busy at the office that I didn’t get a chance and I immediately went to bed upon my arrival home, so put it off thinking I would do it Monday. But Monday I started feeling much better, slept well, and decided I was going to be alright. Felt pretty good Tuesday and Wednesday but last night I had my hair fixed after working pretty hard at the office and I think I overtired myself as not feeling so hot today. However, I’m hoping that tomorrow I will feel good again. I have been resting for two hours after office every night, getting up to go to dinner, taking a walk, and then going to bed, so the fact that I didn’t get that rest probably upset me a little. It seems to take everyone that had the “flu” an awfully long time to get back to normal so expect there is nothing unusual about me feeling that way. I will let you know though if I continue to feel low and have a check to find out if there is something pulling me down.
We were so glad to hear that you are feeling so well - That was grand news and I do hope you continue to feel that way. Do hope Gertrude is better too.
Better get to work - Write and let me know about the letter and tell Tommie to change it completely if necessary as we want it to be a “good” letter and yet sincere, of course.
Bye now and love to all, Peggy & Louis
[Handwritten:] I will start my “BUILDING FUND” dues the 1st of April and I’m sure a lot of other members will do the same. They perhaps, like us, just didn’t give it a thought before and would be delighted to help. And forget about this being any trouble for us. Perhaps you could answer that question yourself. Is it ever any trouble for you to help us when we ask??? No, of course not! Well, that’s my answer to you. It will be a pleasure!
R9. 3/8/41 EC’s letter to Peggy & Louis Poss:
Dear Peggy & Louis:
Thanks many many times for yours of the 5th - to me the letter sounds just right. Will, however, have Tom look at it the first of the week and get them together and send for your signature and to mail them. Mary is here this week end, and am sure he doesn’t wish to be bothered today, but will try and get all together first of week. Thanks a lot.
Gertrude is much better thank you. She too will get off to the specialist this week some time. Goes to Ky. you know for two three weeks.
These colds this winter seem to get a hold on every one that gets one of them. Do hope you are feeling much better. You know am glad to try when ever there might be a chance of being of help.
Had a bit of a cold myself this week, but have about gotten control again and feel pretty well for me. Thought was going to wire you and Louis to look for me for a day or so this week but this cold got me, and certainly don’t wish to carry one of those things round to any one. Now know can’t until after Gertrude gets home any way.
Yes - guess turn about questions if fair - Thanks very much to both of you. Wonder what people do that don’t have good friends? Thanks again and love to each of you [signed] Edgar Cayce
R10. 3/15/41 Peggy Poss’ letter to EC:
Saturday morning
Dear Edgar:
Your letter received and per usual most joyously. We do love to hear from you, of course, and think you are marvelous to keep up with all the letters you receive.
Oh, that would have been so nice for you to have visited us, but it seems as though something always happens to prevent it. However, we hope that one of these days nothing will prevent you from coming! We were so sorry to hear that you caught another cold - You know you were bragging in your letter and that is always almost FATAL! Do hope it is well by now.
So glad Gertrude got to go on her trip - It will do her a lot of good to get away - I don’t mean to get away from you, but there is a lot of confusion at your house all the time from people that need you so terribly, and that is hard on a person recovering from the “flu”. I hope she feels just fine when she returns.
Received the package last night with the letters and envelopes and they are just fine. Last night was Louis’ bowling night and ordinarily I would have been home and could have signed some, but last night one of the girls in the office had a house warming so I went to that. We were talking about it this morning (Louis and I) and Louis said we should try to get them all out around the 20th so everyone will have the letter before the 1st.
Do hope this finds you all well - Thank Tommie for me for going over the letter - Tell him that Louis and I were better than we thought because it wasn’t changed much. It does express our true feelings and after all that was the purpose.
Bye for now and love from us both Peggy & Louis

[Handwritten:] Sunday afternoon
Dear Edgar:
We have just completed the letters - I signed & Louis folded & sealed them so we are going to drop them in the Wash. Post Office this afternoon.
Another thing - I went to the dentist after office yesterday and he says the nerve is dead in one of my lower jaw teeth & want to pull the tooth. I told him I would have it done if you told me to but not before that time. Sooooo, it seems as though I am doomed for a check reading and wondered if you were giving any next Saturday afternoon. I think it well for me to have it anyway as there are several things I want to ask. If you will let me know when you can take me, I will send my questions. Louis and I want a few days to make them up & I could send them to you the first of the week. Surely would appreciate this.
Louis said he hopes we get some good results from these letters and we would be interested to know what response you received. Anyway we will get them to everyone before the 1st.
Love Peggy
R11. 3/15/41 Peggy Poss’ letter to 225 members of the Association:
Washington, D.C.
TO ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT:
Recently my husband and I were discussing Mr. Cayce and the wonderful work that he has done and is doing for all that seek his help. We feel certain that all of the members of the Association are grateful to Mr. Cayce for the help that he has given them and would be delighted at the opportunity of doing something that would help to further this wonderful work and “MAKE HIS DREAM COME TRUE”. That dream is the completion of the addition to his home for the records that will be available to all for generations. In years to come it will stand as a monument in memory of the man who dedicated his life’s work to help others.
I learned recently that there was a shortage of funds for the completion of this new addition and wondered how the members would feel about this suggestion for raising the additional amount necessary to complete the unfinished work. If each active member would obligate himself or herself for $1.00 a month for the next 3 or 4 months, I feel sure that the funds raised in the manner would bring in the necessary amount. This would make Mr. Cayce very happy and repay him in a very small way for the good that he has done and will continue to do.
Starting the 1st of April how about each one of us sending $1.00 to Mr. Cayce and indicate that this is for the building fund? Wouldn’t that be a delightful surprise for April Fool’s Day? Sincerely yours, Margaret A. Poss Active Member of Association
R12. 3/18/41 EC’s letter to Peggy Poss:
Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Peggy;-
Thanks for yours of the 15th - don’t think ever even had chance to write you that was sending the data or what Tom said about the letter - have been so stretched out at work
- now will be quiet for few days. Tom said the letter was fine. Even would persuade him he should make a contribution to the building fund - Sure do appreciate more than can tell you the effort in our behalf. Of course will keep this separate - and will let you know just what each has to say - or what is done about it all. Had company this last week end or they came on Thursday and were here until Monday. Some friends we met in N.Y. Her boy is in camp here so the family came down to spend the week end with him. All were here some two three times each day. Mighty glad to have them. Kept Gertrude tho until yesterday afternoon. She will arrive this afternoon some time. Have a party here tonight - my birthday
- and this Norfolk group put on the dog. Wish you and Louis could be here with us, feel sure you would enjoy it.
Am making the appointment for the afternoon of the 22nd
- Saturday - 3.30 to 4.30. Let me have your questions before that time. Hope you are feeling pretty good.
You were certainly smart to get them all out so soon - but guess you once get started you wished to finish. Sure do thank you.
Here comes some of the crowd - so will have to stop here - thanks for every thing, and love to each of you.
[signed] Edgar Cayce
Feeling pretty good for an old man. Guess am where have to say old man. Sure enough was called that as a nick name when a boy.

Dear Mr. [1757]
Thank you for yours of the 31st - appreciate Mr. & Mrs. Poss’ effort to help us - and am more thankful to those who have and are making it possible to have a nice place to work in - come and see us when you can - know you will really enjoy it, and remember it is yours as it is every ones that has helped us. Missed you at the meetings - but they were very well attended, and hope was really worthwhile for many.
Thank you - and hope you and Mrs. [1697] are fine
