This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of September, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1757], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:40 to 4:10 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Va.

1. GC: You will have before you the entity, [1757], present in this room, and the manuscript and chart in which he has endeavored to outline a plan for operating as a brotherhood, for the purpose of demonstrating the authority of the Divine laws as they work for man’s good, when complied with, by practicing the principles of brotherhood. Considering that it has been given through this channel that this plan can be made useful as a means through which the Great Hierarchy may bring good to the world, you will give the entity any advice needed at this time in regard to obtaining a charter; answering the questions he submits, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the inquiring mind [1757]; together with the data that has been prepared outlining the activity of the Brotherhood; this we have had before.

3. In the main, we have that as may be the basis of the outline for the preparation of the manner of organization. To be sure this may be altered somewhat. When the first groups are selected to be considered as managers or as the hierarchy in the organization, there might be minor changes. The principles, as we find, are here. There only needs to be made the practical manner of application in which various groups in various portions of the country may be organized or set in motion. For, these - as we have indicated - should include in each group, under the various headings, such as: Farmers, dairymen, engineers, railroads, ships and shipyards every form of activity; lawyers, schoolteachers, doctors, all of these would work together in their varied fields of service, but as a Brotherhood. With a single ideal and purpose.

4. The ideal is indicated in the chart itself, as to how the varied groups are to be formed and correlated with other groups in their relationship to the one central theme or the one central ideal.

5. As soon as there ha been formed the central group - which shall necessarily include three, six, nine, twelve, or fifteen, the various groups may apply for charter under the organization for non-profit organization in an ecclesiastical order. Though this is not as a church it is a spiritual movement within every group, every form of activity, and this should be so set up in the form of application for charter to act in that capacity, designated for such activities. In this form it may then be made as an international activity. If there is the approach first through such a group who are in the position for this to be made as a national charter, then this may be allowed before the Senate itself; though as we find, while this may come later, it would be better formed first in a state; such as in Virginia, Texas or California. These have the same rating in regard to reorganizations of a national nature, as indicated to be the central theme of this group.

6. Do it through that manner of means, then, by choosing those that would make application, when the by-laws, the regulations, the various groups are to be solicited or allowed to become a part of such an organization.

7. Ready for questions.

8. (Q) Is the “Idea” proposed in the script and in the chart, in line with the Great Brotherhood’s plan for the world? (A) As just indicated the idea is in line, but the setting of the various groups as indicated should be specific - as individual heads in each varied group, see?

9. (Q) Is there a possibility of making it practical and developing it into an instrument of usefulness to the Master? (A) As just indicated this should never be lost sight of - that it is a united Brotherhood of every group and never a political factor at all; rather as a spiritual means of attaining united effort by prayer, by living, by BEING.

10. (Q) Can you suggest other individuals who might be interested in the project? (A) These will necessarily have to be chosen, as indicated - three, five, nine, twelve or fifteen to prepare and draw from the plans and ideals a charter for such an organization. This necessitates, of course, a lawyer - to go through the regular channels.

As to who - anyone. The first to be approached would be such as the Vice President [O. I. Bryan, Vice-President of Union Life Insurance Company, Inc.]. For, this plan is in keeping with many of his ideals.

11. (Q) Can you give some information as to how to obtain charter? (A) Just as indicated, have the lawyer draw it up. It necessitates, then, a meeting of whoever is chosen; as three, five, nine, twelve, fifteen. There should be as many as twelve but it can be done with three but not less than three.

12. (Q) Is there a specific time for its presentation? (A) Whenever there can be those sufficiently interested to begin, commence.

R1. 10/31/43 [1757]‘s letter to GD:

My dear Gladys:

If there is no reason for Mr. Cayce’s objection, I would thank you a lot, “If you can find the time,” to send another couple of copy’s of the reading Mr. Cayce gave me on the plan for Brotherhood.

I am inclosing a copy of letter I wrote to Mrs. Bailey [See Par. R2 below] in answer to the one I let Mr. Cayce see, which I rec’d, from her.

Not that I wish to burden Mr. Cayce by adding a lot of extra work on his “already,” over-ladened shoulders, but because I take him to be a man of God, and one who firmly believes in the power of the Holy Spirit, I should like, “with his permission,” to confide in him, some of the moves that I make, as I believe that his sincerity, in matters of this kind would not permit him to be other than frank in either way he might see them.

You see, on account of the ordinary duties in my material occupation requiring nearly all of my time, it is necessary for me to act slowly, for the present, “at least,” and while I am trying to move along step by step in a one-pointed manner, as I see the light. It does not mean that others cannot see important points from other angles than those of my own.

In reply to Mr. Cayce’s query as to whether I had sent a copy of the reading to Mr. Leslie L. Savage of Passaic, N.J., I should like to know if he thinks it necessary to send along with it, a copy of the script and chart?

R2. 10/26/43 [1757]‘s letter to Alice A. Bailey:

… Avenue …, Virginia

My dear Mrs. Bailey,

It was splendid of you to draw upon your “already” over-taxed energies in order to comply with my wishes and I want to thank you gratefully for it.

I, also, feel so deeply indebted to you for the lady’s name and address you gave me, as a prospective contributor to the cause, for it is just this sort of help, “as well as the ideas of reliable individuals”, that I feel so much in need of at this time.

While it is true, I had planned for a very simple and small beginning, I have not overlooked the great advantage it would be to have sufficient funds to relieve the handicaps under which I would otherwise have to labor for it would no doubt take much time and patience to prove the merit of the plan, had we to depend upon the capital accumulated through the tithing system alone.

To date, I have presented the idea, or the design to a very few individuals only, and though it was in the form of an outline, as you have seen, the response has been very encouraging and I’m sure that I do not have to tell you just how much these words of encouragement mean, especially when they come from those whom you know to be sincere.

The task is immense, I know, “when considered as a whole”, but when you realize that no matter how great the ultimate possibilities may appear to be, they can be achieved only one step at a time. The weight of each step in itself is not too heavy to carry, nor is it too big an undertaking.

If the fundamental basic idea is right, there is no doubt in my mind as to the possibilities of developing it to a degree where it will actually meet a wider spread human need, as the rest would only be a matter of good management.

The whole project grows out of my heart’s desire to find a practical solution to some of the world’s most distressing problems, such as unemployment, industrial relations, social and economic dislocations and even war, which is mostly a by-product of the others.

The conclusion is Brotherhood, of course, which takes one right back to the authoritative principal as the only true standard upon which to base a correct rule for action or moral conduct between members of the human family, “The Precepts of the Christ”.

I believe with all my heart, that my commission is to tackle this job, and to pursue it with all the grit and courage at my command, yet, in a faith that is too simple and child-like to allow any sense of drudgery to hamper or overlade.

Not that I am making any claim of special abilities for leadership, but only to a partnership in a work that is essential for bringing to the world a condition under which all people may have enough for happy life.

I shall not burden you by relating all the varied experiences I have gone through, in my attempts to find God, as I deem it sufficient to say that when I started to think for myself, I discarded a lot that had been taught me about God and His plan of Salvation, I then started to blaze my own trail and in the blazing of that trail, many startling discoveries were made and though they were mingled in a combination of circumstance which has brought peace, amazement, confusion, joy and pain, one of them I believe, to be my life’s purpose, or the Soul’s objective. The rest, I shall leave for the present, to your own conclusion. My belief, is that the future belongs to those who belong to others in loving service and that they key to ones spiritual progress lies in the dictates of the heart.

It is, therefore, my hope that in this project, a channel may be established through which all concerned will have a chance for development to that stage in life’s career which renders them capable of true self expression, in every phase of life stream.

My purpose now, is to get the idea, before other individuals, one here and there, who are deemed capable of straight thinking and spiritual discernment.

This, alone, is going to take money and should I have to bear the burden alone, it would mean drawing heavily on the little that I have. Without some financial help, the road to self-sustaining and secure position would be a long and arduous one.

Right here, I might point out the first step I have in mind, when charter has been secured, if this can be done, is to organize and start on the way towards building step by step, until the stages has been reached where creation of commodities and free service will off-set any financial burden the participants have been called to bear.

This, I believe can be done, long before the enterprise or institution is fully developed.

My present need is for ideas from personalities like yourself, and for financial assistance by people who have plenty and some to spare.

This, I firmly believe, will come sooner or later as it is a promise of the Law which I am seeking to help fulfill, through what channels I do not know, but I do feel that blessed will be the source from whence it comes.

There is no way in which I could close that would be more impressive than the significant words of one of the world’s wise men - his name, I do not recall - they follow - “Union does everything when it is perfect - it satisfies desires, simplifies needs, foresees the wishes and becomes a constant fortune.”

P.S. I am inclosing a copy of reading given by Mr. Cayce, whom I have known for a number of years and also, have had occasion to learn much about the reliability of his work.

It should give you some kind idea as to my present position and the helps which I need most at this time.

Please do not get the idea that I am calling upon you for any advice or instructions that would add any burden but only for such casual, new thoughts and ideas which naturally come to surface in meditation by Souls who are highly developed.

Did you see the chart I left with Mr. Brown?

The manuscript came in a few days ago but, as yet, have not received chart.
